PERFECT TIMING!

Havokki

Yay! I was already getting tired of working today, now I can take a 2h break :D

Jeff K

Just starting the video so you may touch on this, but in case y'all have not seen it in the comments previously, there are two episodes (including episode four) that were "extra" episodes that Apple wanted following the success of the first season. The writers had already completed a full 10 episode story, and didn't want to disrupt it, so they created two bottle episodes where they could still touch on a few things from the rest of the season without messing up any plot continuity. Which is why there's a random Christmas episode, for example. And I'm pretty sure you'll be able to figure out which the other one is when you get to it. Also, your weekly reminder Higgins and Mrs. Higgins are actually married in real life, which adds such a sweet dimension to their scenes, and everything Higgins says in episode five. And if you go back and listen to the lyrics of "Rainbow" in the closing musical montage, they're all lining up pretty perfectly with what's happening on screen. For instance, "Do you see her dressed in blue..." and the scene is showing Higgins and his wife, with her dressed all in blue.

Jessi

Just dropped the kids off at school and was gearing up to do some work or laundry or pull out the Christmas decorations from the attic but, oh no...I have to watch Ted Lasso now. Darnit 😉

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

Hannah Waddingham(Rebecca) has a holiday special on Apple tv that just came out...many famous people and her sing

Astraeos

Now that we got the Christmas special, I'll just say that I'm really glad you guys are back to Ted Lasso, especially with this timing. I think the happy warm feeling of this show really do fit in quite well with the Holiday Season we're in now.

Astraeos

Also the "She's a Rainbow" moment in this is just so perfect. For both Roy and Higgins. Also as others have said, and hopefully you've seen, Higgins and his wife in the show are actually married IRL

rycolaa

you should watch Once and Sing Street by John Carney

Jeff K

The way neither of you guys reacted to the leg lamp makes me think you guys need to watch A Christmas Story.

Pam Nail

- I can't say which one and why because spoilers, but one of George's observations was amazingly spot-on. *ahem* - Yes, Mary Roscoe (who plays Higgins's wife) is Jeremy Swift's real-life wife. - H.R. Pufnstuf was a kids show in the 1970s -- like Sesame Street but way trippier. That's what they were referencing when Roy said "I'm calling HR" and Ted says something about "Pufnstuf."

samuel Jakob

This was perfect! We just had the first snow and now im sitting here watching Ted Lassos Christmas episode and all around me I see my snowy town through my windows.

Shane Leslie

The 3rd season is amazing, but yeah, you do feel that extra runtime. Still better than 98% of tv though.

Jeff K

Yeah, I felt the run time most on my initial watch, but then I rewatched it when Natalie Gold did it and I really appreciated the whole season much more. I liked it the first time, loved it the second, though it still could have trimmed some of the extra stuff and some of the new plot lines.

djKENTO

oh also Hannah has a Christmas music special on AppleTV+ right now called Hannah Waddingham Home for Christmas and it is a BLAST if you love classic big band and jazz orchestra style christmas music.

Ryan Skinner

*Jan Maas revealed to be Dani's Secret Santa* George: "What's it gonna be, a tulip?" Oh my god. :D

Hovila

Did I hear Scary movie?

Jeff K

Given how much Simone has said she's watched You've Got Mail, I'm a little surprised she didn't pick up on the subtle reference in the Bantr names; Rebecca's is BOSSGIRL and her mystery man's (keeping his identity secret in case this is anyone's first time watching and they haven't gotten there yet before reading this) is LDN152, in direct references to the AOL names that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks have in that movie (her's is SHOPGIRL and his is NY152). Also, unrelated to that: in episode 6 when Jamie scores from about 50 yards out, Phil Dunster (the actor who plays Jamie) actually made that shot on the first try, so all of the celebrations from him and the rest of the team were legit because they couldn't believe he actually made it.

Darin Foat

Simone's rant about Roy in a black suit was the best.

Jeff K

I'm so glad you guys immediately went to the power dynamic as the biggest problem in Rebecca's potential new romance. It's far and away the most problematic part of that whole thing.

Jeff K

I'm going to see him do stand up next weekend, and I think I'm gonna be genuinely disappointed if he's not wearing all black.

Ep. 4 Of all the Christmas episode in all the sit-come in all the world... TED LASSO!!! Ep. 5 The one thing that this series is BEST at is character development.. think of the restaurant's mater de And... we all had Roy Kent at "Hello" George's question about Higgin's wife... BOTH an actress and the actor's real-world wife. Ep. 6 The naked in the kitchen thing is 'a meme' H & L Puff and Stuff!!! However those trivialities will prove NOTHING to The WONDER KID and SAM of BANTR! I know that the pattern has been reactions for 3 episodes which should take you to episode 9, BUT IF YOU happen to get to episode 10... be prepared to react to the greatest 'written' episode in television history that answers every question this episode asks (note: S2-E10 is not the best Ted episode, that's S3-E6 and the final 3 that will have you crying for sure...., but IS the BEST WRITTEN EVER!)

mojo shivers

Season 3 aren’t all one hour episodes. I’d say they average 45 minutes if I remember correctly. That is longer than the first few seasons, but it’s a last season so I think they’re entitled to do a bit more tying off plot threads in some of those episodes. And I have to say the longest episode, at barely over an hour, really does its time well and turns out to be one of the best episodes in the show.

akaTheBARON

🖤I believe she got those letters to Santa at the post office (not sure what they call them in England). When they get letters to Santa from kids they just hold onto them. Sometimes people or charity organizations will go get some of the letters and buy the presents for the children and deliver them on behalf of Santa. They do that here in the U.S. at least so I assume that's what she was doing and did in the past with Gile... I mean... Rupert XD. Unless she runs a charity kids send letters directly to, they didn't really clarify. or I didn't catch it.

Chase Lonnergan

I've always hated that Christmas joke that Sam makes. It completely ignores the fact that Christianity was widespread in Nigeria even before Constantine declared it the official religion of Rome. Africans were Christians, long before Europeans were.

Travis H

I have been looking forward to Simone seeing Rainbow (the romcom episode) ever since you started watching Ted Lasso. It is in my top 3 episodes of the show (along with Make Rebecca Great Again and a S3 episode I won’t opinion spoil), and Roy “running” to the love of his life may be my favorite scene of the show. (And yes to everything Simone said about the black suit) And I won’t go into spoilers about Sam and Rebecca, but I will say that Rebecca is also Ted’s boss and you both want them together. The age difference, sure that can be an issue. But I think it depends on the people. I don’t see Rebecca as someone who would take advantage of another person in that way….ok well not anymore, she’s grown. I personally never had an issue with them potentially getting together just because I knew the characters that were involved.

akaTheBARON

🖤Yeah, the "will they? won't they?" is usually the best part. The whole Nick and Jess thing became "meh" when they started dating. When Jim and Pam got together they had to sort or rewrite Pam to be more joke-heavy and goofy because her story lacked that dynamic. Jim did too but to a smaller degree because he already had lots of jokes and funny storylines with Dwight but Pam didn't have much outside of Jim sadly (Karen was better anyway XD). When The Office lost that with Jim and Pam, they tried to force it on us with Andy and Erin.

King_Panarisi

Same here but is it a scary movie with donuts like in Scream 2? Or are there donuts in scary movie?

Patrick

Christmas themed episodes tend to be corny, but this one was amazing. Perfect mix of funny and sweet without going over the top.

Patrick

FYI, Higgins talking about Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny (Mac from Always Sunny) buying AFC Wrexham literally happened in real life. It's a lower tier Welsh club and they got promoted in their first year. There's a whole docu-series about it. I think it's like the 2nd oldest football/soccer team in the world.

Terry Yelmene

I thought Sam's answer was most appropriate and more than just a little clever. Sam's the man! IMHO, the holiday was represented in absolutely the BEST LIGHT / WARMEST INTENTIONS IT DESERVES! 'Christmas' was portrayed perfectly well. It seems to me, if any 'christians' have issue with this heart-warming episode... that's their problem!

Terry Yelmene

I know I may be in a minority, but for me, there can be no 'will they-won't they' equal to the greatest soulmate love story of all... Chuck and Sarah in 'Chuck'! If you don't know the story of Charah,,, it's a great one, packaged in an otherwise enjoyable guilty pleasure action-comedy. I highly recommend it!

João Rafael Ferreira

Ted mentioned the movie Once when he saw the man playing on the street It's a beautiful independent film that I watch at least once a year and it inspired me to go backplaying music again highly recommend

Im soooo happy you guys are noticing the Nate stuff. I only follow 3/4 reactors but the ones that have watched it completely miss it and then suddenly seem baffled that he’s a bit prickly. Especially with what George said about telling someone with low self esteem to have more confidence is like telling someone who is depressed to just be happier, that is such a good way to put it. I’ve seen in real life multiple times and been on the end of situations where for example the “big dog” thing happens. Someone tries to big themselves up but then is immediately put down and it’s disregarded by anyone that was there, usually humoursly, not realising it might be one of many times the person has been put down. We see 3 examples in this episode alone of Nate facing some kinda perceived slight against him or at least someone as insecure as Nate is, will perceive as a slight. The issue is, as in Nate’s case, the people who make these comments or perceived slights, such as the Ted’s comment, Waitress and Keeley with coffee machines usually don’t mean any harm however they don’t see the other interactions Nate has had. But Nate experiences all 3 and to what 3 people is seen as 3 harmless interactions, Nate sees as 3 consecutive examples of the world needlessly shitting on him. Nate’s arc in this show is so well done due to how subtle and realistic it is at times and I’m so happy that you guys as reactors are picking up on these things.

Chase Lonnergan

Nothing ruins a show faster than when the "Will they/Won't they" get together. Just look how the X-Files went to shit once Mulder and Scully got together. Or Lois and Clark in Lois and Clark.

JayF

It's a result of shitty writing though. Nothing to do with the characters getting together except that the writers lack imagination after that point.

JayF

70s kid here. George, you asked about HR Pufnstuf. I do not accept any responsibility for what you are about to see. Let's just say that the people creating programming for kids around this time were probably on acid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=orUNj09oN4U

Kate Zimmerman

The Rebecca relationship power dynamic “reversed” is of course problematic (and yeah, rooted in insecurity on the part of both partners, but more notably the older partner), but had to note just not the same as an older rich man and a younger woman. Because of the history of economic oppression in relationships. Again, not saying it’s good, and glad that’s recognized as a dimension here. But it’s like any comment on “reverse” prejudices. The problematic part of the prejudice/ unbalanced power dynamic is compounded by social, political, economic, and institutional factors. Interested to see what you say as the season continues!!

Cubonemaker

Definitely watch Once on your own time, especially Simone. It's a great film but it's prob got too much music for a reaction.

Cubonemaker

And yes Mrs Higgins is Mr Higgins' real wife

Jeff K

"Falling Slowly" was my wife and my's first dance song at our wedding. I also never realized until very recently that the guy in the movie, Glen Hansard, was in ANOTHER great Irish music-centered movie, The Commitments. I watched that movie constantly as a kid and wore out the soundtrack.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

This show is totally new to me and I'm loving it, and hearing Higgins mention Wrexham, now I'm really hoping we get a crossover. I'm a big "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" fan, and what Mac (Rob McElhenney) and Ryan Reynolds have been doing with the Wrexham Football Club in Wales sounds really cool. Also, I recently noticed that Juno Temple (Keeley) is in the newest season of Fargo, just saying ("wink, wink, nudge, nudge").

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Also, I'm not quite that old, but I do remember waking up early Saturday mornings, turning the TV on and seeing HR Pufnstuf reruns, and that was probably the closest to an acid trip I ever experienced before taking actual LSD lol, and yeah I kind of took the name. Although like I was saying in a Popcorn In Bed poll that included The Last Dragon, I might change it to Sho Nuff (or Joe Nuff) MacGuffinstuff, but it's only funny if you've seen that movie.

Onno Smits

Are you watching the "Welcome to Wrexham" documentary? It's on Disney+ where I live, though it may be on some other streaming platform wherever you are. It's absolutely great and a nice real-life counterpoint to the huggable surrealism of Ted Lasso.

Thomas

George was surprised when Ryan Reynolds got mentioned. I highly recommend in your free time watching Welcome To Wrexham! Reynolds and Rob McElhenney (it’s always sunny in Philadelphia) but a football club in whales and it’s a documentary style show that really looks at the town and the community and what the team means to everyone. It’s a very lovely show.

Thomas

Yes this! Most reactions I see don’t pickup on the constant signs! No spoilers though!

Jeff K

I remember right after this episode, Rob and Ryan had a fun, fake Twitter beef with the Ted Lasso Twitter accounts, and as an "apology" the Lasso people sent boxes and boxes of Ted's biscuits to Wrexham and the Wrexham team account tweeted out photos of the players with the biscuits.

Skinny_Obelix

Whatever you do, make sure watching Hannah Waddingham practicing the Christmas song on Youtube... It's incredible, with Higgins on the base. Also Higgins and his wife are married in real life. Also, that free kick was no cgi.

Tenn Seven

Roy Kent is my spirit animal!

Astraeos

Also, unless I was mishearing things, congrats on the girlfriend George. That seems like a semi recent development given some of his comments on older videos, so, good for you man! As a guy who can't meet people at all, I'd actually love to know how you met each other lol.

HeyHeyJK

I don't know what the bigger torture is: Having to wait so long between seasons so I can watch your reactions, or having to wait what feels like forever between the weekly reactions, because they always end with me wanting to binge the rest of the episodes with you right away! The reactions, however, are wonderful and well worth the wait in either case. So many great moments coming up!

Brandon Meng

Some of the Christmas episode borrowed from one of my favorite Christmas movies/romantic comedies Love Actually. It'd be absolutely fantastic if you guys reacted to that movie for Christmas!

Ginge Tomassi

Somebody get Simone a gallon of water right now, she's in danger.

lance tophoj

I'm extremely surprised about the lack of happiness on the Beard episode... Throughout the series you guys know that he is built different, and likes to live life on the fun side. I'm assuming neither of you have been in numerous relationships, because there's always one, where it is wild and crazy and you know you're both bad for each other... However the fun and the attraction to each other is so out of this world that you can't help yourself. Anyone that has any sort of addictive personality will know exactly what I'm talking about whatever you do you do it 1000%

HeyHeyJK

Yeah, love that film so very much. I'm long overdue for a rewatch, actually.

Daniel flohr

"What is it, a tulip?" Someone remind George he said this when we're halfway through season 3!!

W T

Man, Once is a great movie.

wozzablog

The dark swamp from earlier in the episode cropping up halfway through the story is also princess bride

wozzablog

We get a bit more of Will in season 3

Simon Pegged Me

Roy says he'll call HR, and Ted responds with a joke about H.R. Pufnstuff, the lead character in a live action puppet show for children and stoners that aired in the late 60s. It was extremely popular, and sired a family of similar live-action puppet shows for kids by the same creator. It would be worth a reaction but only after a bowl, when his surname would make it more obvious whom this magic dragon was created to entertain.

Gary Fixler

Still playing catch-up on about 30 videos here, and I'm not sure if you guys, or a Patron already called this out, but I've only just realized Rebecca's hookup app (not Bantr) is called 2MSCNT, i.e. tumescent, i.e. adjective: swollen or becoming swollen, especially as a response to sexual arousal. Amazing.

Amelie W

Rebecca is like twice Sam's age, 5000 times richer than him, a British citizen, and Sam's boss' boss. Really not sure what the writers were thinking there. . .
