The LEGO series is a bit of a mixed bag but IMO if you’re gonna watch another The LEGO Batman Movie is the only one that remotely comes close to this one. Can’t wait to check this out though.

Ph4ZeD

Just to comment on the opening conversation - yes George, I live in Paris and can confirm that Emily in Paris is just total trash!

JusteFlo

Yup, I was going to say, you think Emily in Paris is bad, try to imagine how it looks when you actually live in Paris and add knowing first hand how inaccurate, stereotypical and outright bullshit it really is in addition to the general level of awful of the show.

gobmob2000

The Lego movie is mostly CGI with some real lego, but each lego "brick" was modelled in the CGI to be an individual brick so it would be like realistic lego, so everything fitted together and broke apart like it would in real life. They did play with and examine real lego extensively to see how it behaved in the real world and then modeled that in the CGI. They went even as far as studying real dandruff on lego and then modeling virtual dandruff to imitate the real life dandruff that can attach to lego.

Diiego

Lego batman movie next !

Tay Schumaker

Oh man you guys missed my favorite joke in the whole movie. "We'll wing it....that's a bat pun."

u_mike

Both Spin-Offs are worth watching but you should definitely watch the direct sequel

joe dough

As a kid, i had an imagination. As an adult, I have the Lego Hogwarts set behind a plexiglass display case. We all become Lord Business in the end.

8bitAndy

The Lego Movies never landed with me, though I highly recommend the games. Lego Star Wars and Lego Harry Potter are my favs, but all of them are some good wholesome fun.

Prof. Writhms

I'm still waiting for the Play-Doh movie. [arms crossed]

Monica Alarcon

Now you see why this won by a landslide... Also... You need to do the Lego Batman Movie ASAP!! It's the best Batman Movie... I'm not joking.. then the second part.

djKENTO

WB owns DC comics so they don’t have to worry about any licensing issues. They also own the rights to use Dumbledore and Gandalf in film form already. And they have a really good working relationship with Disney/Star Wars when it comes to animation because they distributed the Clone Wars TV show at the time. The others were probably much easier to license because it’s just Shaq and a few unnamed NBA players and Michelangelo the Ninja Turtle. I didn’t really vibe with the second Lego movie too much. But the Lego Batman movie is literally a top tier Batman movie.

sarCC

As Batman movies go, it's definitely the most funny, intentionally(THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is the second-most funny, though unintentionally).

djKENTO

The Astronaut guy is just that… an astronaut guy. In the 1980s the most popular line of Lego was their Space series. Benny is just a representation of that long gone era of cool space ships. https://www.1980somethingspace.com/#classic Check that out for the list of sets he’s based on.

Kim Brink

The Spaceman lego is just legacy lego from the 80ties, so guess the joke is that space lego is just not popular anymore as everything is DC, LOTR, and so on today

Paul G

The only bad thing with this movie is after watching it you'll be singing "Everything is awesome!" for days

NobleProfession

I know it's a rare opinion and don't get me wrong this movie is perfect, but I like the sequel more. It's a lot funnier and has a song from T-Pain for some reason? Also that YouTube thumbnail is really creepy.

NobleProfession

The Lego Batman Movie is also perfect and the only Batman movie my mom will watch.

samuel Jakob

Well watched it for the first time with u and even tho it got me in the end and I did enjoy it, I do not understand how this won by so much compared to the others. I would rate this far lower than most of the others on the poll and I was a huge lego fan as a kid, The beginning and even most of the middle part just didnt do alot for me.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

You need to search for Building Blocks Duck instead of Lego. Many companies have similar toys and usually there is always a duck

Julian Calzada

I haven't seen Barbie or your Barbie reaction video. I feel like there were a lot of spoilers for Barbie in this reaction. I know you guys would not like us to spoil movies for you. Do you mind doing the same for us?

Tay Schumaker

It would have been weird for them not to mention it honestly. I get your point, but the two movies have a lot of similarities. Also they didn’t spoil any real plot points

REDR58

The LEGO that Simone played with as a child sounds like Duplo, which is a more basic and version of the smaller, typical LEGO Bricks that most people think of. Both systems are of course, compatible with each other. The “dots” on top are called “studs” and bricks are 2x4 studs in size, or whatever. Flat bricks are called “plates” and smooth plates are called “tiles.” All the individual pieces (bricks) are parts of larger subtypes. Bricks, plates, tiles, cheeses slope, gears, (24-tooth, and so on), etc. It’s a whole system. :) All the figures in the movie are “Minifigs” which first came out in the late 1970s I think. There were “Maxifigs” before that.

Max Krause

To me it sounds like she just had the most basic of Lego bricks. No angles beside 90°, no slopes, no special pieces to properly shape a Lego duck. Just 2x2 and 2x4 etc. bricks that you built into something that was the closest to a duck as it could get. I had such a bucket myself. A red square bucket with a few hundred Lego bricks in diferent colours. It's the beginners' set and it's enough for the age it's meant for. As soon as you're bored with that, you're ready for the sets with more sophisticated shapes that you could combine with your old boring bricks to build new more exciting things.

Onno Smits

I bought and built my first LEGO set earlier this year since like 20 years ago, and it was an incredibly satisfying and nostalgic experience. Highly recommend trying it! (If you have some disposable income, because dang, it has certainly jumped an income bracket or two since I was a kid.)

Odd Thomas

Can you get ADHD from watching a movie? Jesus. Calm down, Lego Movie.

Ricardo Alanis

Lego Batman is great. Definitely recommend as a follow up.

Richard Flores

First watch, I was having so much fun. The story concept, the game of "Whose Voice is That", the visuals, the different ways they interjected comedy (I loved Batman's lyrics, must have rewound that scene 3-4 times). Then we find ourselves in the real world seeing a real family dynamic, and I lose it. Of COURSE its gonna hit hard, suddenly remembering how well puppets and role-play work in therapy. Especially therapy with children so they can express complex emotions and explore difficult situations. Like how to find a way to say, "Hey, Dad? You deeply engage with these Legos on your own terms. You are my hero and I want to engage with you. Can we do this together?" It would have been fine if this was just a "fun" movie I watched once and enjoyed. But it ended up being more, and a movie I will love forever.

Steve

I liked The Green Lantern.

Manuel Phelouzat

Dr. P. Drannair and his extensive research of the genus has concluded that hippopotami lack a hypothalamus. A lack of a hypothalamus makes the nervous reactions in response to tickling become obsolete. Therefore, the answer is No, Hippos aren't ticklish.

Crazykirsch

This not even getting nominated for Animated Feature is one of the worst snubs in Oscars history. The fact that it happened again for Lego Batman really put the nail in the coffin for Animated Feature as a credible award, though the Oscars had already become a joke for most people anyways.

Vwlss Nvwls

My daughter and I saw this in the theater, and we had so much fun. When we got home she wrote "EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!!!!" on the dry erase board in the kitchen, and it is still up there. For weeks after we were singing the songs and quoting the movie to each other. I love when family movies can be this much fun for the whole family.

REDR58

Some adult builders who build large, elaborate creations for things like hobby shows do indeed glue together parts or all of the sets for stability or so onlookers can’t take pieces off.

Jacob King

As someone who grew up with space Lego he means more to me than all the pop culture IP characters combined.

REDR58

Before watching The Lego Batman Movie you should probably watch Batman 1989 and Batman Returns (1992). Also, Jerry Maguire! Also, the misinterpretation of the computer is more likely making fun of Siri than Alexa. Funnily enough, in the Lego Batman Movie the then-current Siri voice was quite prominently used. The voice has changed somewhat since then for iPhones, however.

Jesse Coombs

All they have to do is look up who directed this movie to see why we voted for it.

Jacob King

One thing you might have missed is how much this was a riff on The Matrix, not just in the classic “hero’s journey” sense but there are also visual references in the micro managers (sentinels) and the characters being held in the mind room, the blank void of Emmet’s brain et . The dynamic between Lucy and Emmet is based on Trinity and Neo and Lord Business is basically the Architect. It’s the same production company and there’s a very quick cut to some Speed Racer Lego so I assume the Wachowski’s were aware on some level but it’s an odd one. Also you guys should watch Speed Racer.

Jared Winn

🎶It’s been awhile🎶 since I’ve seen the Lego Batman movie, but I remember really enjoying it. One of my favorite throwaway lines that I quote all the time is in it. I’d love to rewatch with you.

Persnickity

LEGO BATMAN! It is legit good

Mike Buchanan

I remember playing with the original spaceship Lego kit when I was a kid. (Yes, I'm old) it came out in the late 70's. I don't think it was particularly loved or disliked. It was just one of the few "Kits" available. I may be wrong, but hey,I was like 10 at the time. Cut me some slack 😄

Philipp Roensch

It will probably come to no surprise to you once you look it up: the writers also worked on Spiderverse 1+2. Let's get LEGO Batman and LEGO Movie 2 in polls please :D I think they work as comedy and musical respectifly, but only the second comes close to the emotional depth. Of course the movie is heavy on product placement, but is also great in many other angles, the creativity positivity, wonderful animation, nostalgia, great comedic pacing and the father-son payoff to catch all the emotions. Amazing movie. Personal: I had quite a few LEGOs as a kid, still have it in a drawer somewhere, it was mostly non-third-party-brand so just Rock Miners, 80s Space stuff, a bit of medieval and generic city stuff. Maybe two Technic things, actually loved the detailed trike with engine, and A-Wing, but my siblings and I also love mashing everything together, building our own stories. Nowadays, I have a few nerdy pieces, just had to get the big Rivendell one, and the Walker from Horizon Zero Dawn. The flowers are cool in any household, got no green thumb :D

Anonymous

I don't understand why the dad didn't get the kid his own Lego sets? That way the kid can enjoy playing with them (or they could play together) meanwhile the dad gets to keep his stuff the way he wants it. I'm probably in the minority here but I sympathize with the dad. He probably spent years building that and he wants to preserve it, there's nothing wrong with that.

Gary Fixler

This is the film where I learned that Will Forte, who played Abraham Lincoln, is really name Orville Willis Forte IV. He's in the credits as Orville Forte. I thought it was his brother at first. There were so many big names playing minor parts, like Jake Johnson, Keegan-Michael Key, and Dave Franco playing Emmett's construction worker team, Cobie Smulders as Wonder Woman, Jorma as Shakespeare, and Channing Tatum as Superman. I had Lucy wrong twice. I thought she was Zooey Deschanel at first, then decided it was Elizabeth Olsen.

Kevin Bartelen

The Lego Ninjago movie is based on an animated series that was already running at the time and so, like the show, is more for kids than this is. Lego Batman and Lego Movie 2 are excellent though.

TheSentry77

Well, now you guys understand why this won by a landslide :) Lego Batman is definitely a must-watch as well!

Mastervodo

This movie really brought the joyful kids out of S&G. Just laughing and "WOW" and "COOL" moments all through. Voice acting cast was stellar. Story and writing were great. And +1 to the Lego Batman movie. It is just as amazing! Wreck it Ralph also good.

Dr Ozzy

Finally watching this movie... Was taking my gf at the time to see this movie in theaters on Valentine’s Day and got pulled over and found out I had a super old ticket I never paid and ended up getting arrested and my gf had to spend Valentines Day bailing me out of jail… good times. Good times.

Doesn't look like anyone answered your question- Warner produced and distributed this film, and DC is a division of Warner bros. All of the characters in the movie they used look to be owned by Warner in one way or another.

shaneth138

Totally disagree. Lego Batman is definitely meant to be next and the second lego movie is pretty bad in general.

shaneth138

Don't worry about the multiple writers for Lego Batman. It's every bit as good and as funny as this one. Zach Galifianakis is just as funny as Will Arnett as Batman.

Amelie W

Fun fact: Lego is made of a very special plastic that's basically indestructible and much harder than most things you'll encounter in your daily life. That's why they hurt so much when you step on them.

Anthony Jackson

Man i would love you guys to do more of the lego franchise please!
