As someone who helps run a Lego store I can tell you that to this day we still get people wanting sets based around this film and kids asking us when will they make a third film? Truly has become a modern family classic. Yes: we get people wanting glue to keep their displays solid from pets and falling. And yes: Play and free-building are also there for the toddlers to build crazy shaped things as a daily occurrence haha

I loved this! And yeah, after my nephew and I left the theater we made a LEGO run at the Walmart. Very good product placement. If you want another nostalgic 90 minute commercial, The Wizard with Fred Savage is all about that NES from back in the day. I really liked the casting- they got a lot of heavy hitters. Not sure if you caught it, but Channing Tatum was Superman and Jonah Hill was Green Lantern.

I can't help it, for some reason the line in this movie that makes me laugh arguably the most is when Shaq says, "Y'all ready for this?" and his plan fails, and he immediately says, "Oh no, they were ready for that!" The basketball loving '90s kid in me just laughed his ass off at that random and, to non-sports people, pretty obscure reference.

Warner Bros made the movie. It owns DC and made the Harry Potter movies. It also owns New Line Cinema, so that gave it LoTR rights. It also owns the Matrix franchise, which provided a good chunk of the plot skeleton. So, it wasn’t so much just rights to the characters through Lego, but also the earlier film rights.

Great job on the thumbnail!

The 2nd film is decent from what I remember. Been a while since I've watched it. Same goes for the Lego Batman film.

“Everything is Awesome” still gets stuck in my head.

Lea Osborne

The second film was a lot of fun. I would recommend it and, of course, the Batman Lego Movie too!

Johanna Caulfield

lol remember when conservatives insisted this movie was liberal propaganda because they thought president business looked like mitt romney

Brent Petty

The UniKitty business scene is so funny.

this is such a genius movie, it fuses everything together what lego and old lego movie making from kids was like also it was 100% made with CGI, expect the real world scenes of course. it's insane how much detail it has, EVERYTHING is made out of lego even explosions and smoke Phil Lord and Chris Miller both directed and written the movie, such great movie makers who also did the Spiderverse movies and the Jump Street films :) the Lego Batman movie and the 2nd Lego movies are really worth it imo

Are Hippos Ticklish? My name is Simone, this is George, and this is ... As It Happens!

Mark Messer

George should play the lego star wars and legi lord of the rings games

Ed Stephens

Lego Batman and Lego Ninjago are worth watching. Still haven't seen Lego Movie 2

RogueRN

Definitely recommend the Lego Batman movie :-) Also, in the scenes where parts are flying around and you see numbers, those are the actual Lego catalog numbers and names for those parts - just a bit o' trivia.

this thumbnail is nightmare fuel.

This movie is just too much fun. Reminds me I need to get a new LEGO® set to build. I have my Beatles Yellow Submarine that I built with my son on permanent display, but that's about it. There's a new kit coming out in January that lets you build a "retro" 35mm film camera, but then you can take it apart and rebuild it as a video camcorder and/or an old TV set. No Kragle allowed!

The LEGO Batman movie is infinitely better than it has any reason to be. I do subscribe to the theory that the initial scriptwriters for that basically watched "Holy musical, B@man!" and ripped it off wholesale. If you enjoy musicals I can certainly recommend watching that, it's free on YouTube!

Please LEGO BATMAN NEXT 😩

You guys asked if Will Ferrell was in any serious roles and people mentioned Stranger Than Fiction. I wonder if this movie counts as well? I think his acting is really good here, it certainly made me tear up.

Lego Batman and the sequel are great, Ninjago is skipable imo (but I know it has fans). As for DC rights, any use of a DC character has to be approved by DC comics. That includes casting, plot and everything. I know that the CW shows (Flash, Arrow, etc) were regularly told they couldn’t use certain characters even if they were doing a comic specific storyline that involved said characters. My personal favorite DC bts story ever came from the showrunners of the Harley Quinn animated show. They wrote a sex scene between Batman/Catwoman and they were told that Batman could not “go down” on Catwoman “Heroes don’t do that”. Here’s a link to that story if interested: https://ew.com/tv/dc-vetoed-harley-quinn-oral-sex-scene-batman-catwoman/

BTW (just my opinion). "Lego Movie" seems like a small sister of "Everything Everywhere All at Once". Somebody really special because he\she is so unspecial. Travelling thru odd universes. Father-Mother\Daughter-Son dynamic which is resolved by an accepting each other and not by the physical victory. The difference is Lego is unfolding the story step by step using limited amount of very detailed universes while Everything is happening Everywhere and at Once.
