Did you say Back to School (1986)? And were you talking about student-teacher romance? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6M4_Ommfvv0 [Added: This is not a link to My Tutor. (Nor to My Teacher's Wife.) Nor to They're Playing with Fire. Nor even to Private Lessons. And may God have mercy on my soul for knowing all these movies.]

Matt O'Keefe

Glad you two finally recognized Chris Farley.

Happy Hanukkah

14:49 I was watching TV back in the day, and he was introduced as Gerard Depardieu. [ADDED: SNL S20E01] Trivia: the principal is played by Josh Mostel, son of Zero Mostel. By the way, it is somehow only today that the existence of Tom Herlihy, co-writer of this movie, registered with me. Herlihy, as in "Herlihy Boy." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXyW5w5RRFY This comment brought to you by a proud lump of crap.

I’ll just wait for you two to get around to Wedding Singer. New Year’s Eve would have been a good Cinecringe experiment for this time of year.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Was 8 when this came out and think I was the right age for the comedy in this film to keep coming up as quotes into adulthood. Not to mention where me and my mates would laugh at “69” before we knew what it meant til high school lol. Not to mention Eric being a brilliant fun villain. One of my favourite silly movies ever. Glad you both had fun with it. Also a great Farley movie to check out is Tommy Boy - ignore the not knowing who it is; that’s what watching to find out is for

George Stapp

I always love both of your reactions to comedies. It’s great fun laughing along with you. I was shocked that you didn’t get Chris Farley right away. He was definitely Adam Sandler’s comedy equal! He’s been gone a long time now though! Steve Buscemi is actually in a number of Adam Sandler movies that are definitely worth a watch. The Wedding Singer, I Now Pronounce You, Chuck and Larry and Big Daddy are the top three that come to mind! It’d be interesting to see an entirely Adam Sandler poll just to see what the results would be! Just a thought! Keep making me laugh you two, I’m here for it!

Jason Pratt

It was the sideburns throwing you off.

Elder Lyons

a good contrast to yesterdays movie hahaha

REDR58

I don’t think they noticed who he was in Wayne’s World either.

MPH

This is the first comedy I saw when I was a small child. I loved it so much.

MPH

We're the same age. This was my first comedy, and I will never forget seeing it for the first time.

Ronnie

The best Chris Farley movie is Tommy Boy

Simon Pegged Me

I remember Latin, U.S. History, and my math courses from high school. I also read Romeo & Juliet, Julius Caesar, MacBeth, and Hamlet for English courses. And although I didn't take them, we had electives in home economics, economics, and business administration. I thought I'd learn about personal finances and that sort of thing later, although when I think about it, I have no idea where I would go to learn it. Finally, my favorite Adam Sandler movie is The Water Boy. It's silly, over-the-top ridiculous, and fun. If you continue along the Sandler path, I hope you'll check it out.

Happy Hanukkah

/stares at thumbnail Judy Collins and Stephen Stills? Surely I am not dreaming. Que linda! :-)

Saliv-88

I watched this movie a ton when I was younger, accepting it as super lowbrow, but now that I’m older I have to accept it as an absurdist masterpiece.

Byron

Sandler and Buscemi were in the movie “Airheads” together and became friends. It’s a good movie. Wedding Singer is the next classic Sandler movie that really is a must-see. I’m also a fan of Just Go With It. And if you’re really vibing rom com Adam Sandler, 50 First Dates is fun and Blended has its moments. He has dabbled in more serious stuff, liiiike: Punch Drunk Love, Spanglish, and Uncut Gems.

theedgeinshow

O'Doyle might rule.....but Buckaroo Banzai kicks ass

Jeff K

Yep. Buscemi and Sandler are really tight friends. Buscemi pops up in a lot of his movies, just as little cameos. When Sandler got an award (I think it was the Mark Twain Award for Comedy?), Buscemi was one of the people introducing him and came out essentially as his character from Wedding Singer.

With regards "They don't teach cursive anymore", people keep saying that (Including several parents I know) but whenever I actually ask kids they say it's still taught. I think it's just that since handwriting in general is so much less necessary than it used to be (Sometimes I go several days in a row with never writing anything by hand) that people assume it was dropped. Especially since most computer fonts in general use are based on block letters. In the American and Canadian education system, Home Economics used to be the class where you did learn all of the real-world stuff, like taxes and budgeting. But over the latter half of the 20th century it was stripped more and more from the schooling systems. Partly because the HomeEc class was stereotyped as "It's just learning how to bake", and partly because it wasn't as easily quantifiable when the school systems switched to standardized curriculum in the 80s and 90s. A quick google search says that many of the subjects are still taught in dedicated electives in high school, but you need to deliberately seek out and enroll in those courses and I'm betting most kids don't think to do that.

Lee Meehan

Out of all of Sandler's movies I'd recommend Little Nicky or the Waterbody. Billy Madison just never did it for me, still enjoy watching it tho, just not one of my favs.

Happy Hanukkah

You've indirectly reminded me of the Gypsy quote: "Some men have called me an ecdysiast. Do you know what that means? An ecdysiast is one who, or that which, sheds it's skin. In vulgar parlance, a stripper. But I'm not a stripper. At these prices, I'm an ecdysiast!" [ADDED:] This scene from the 1993 Gypsy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o2bySe0TsQU&t=688s

Since y'all are desperate to know, my impression of Adam Sandler's oeuvre is that he tends to be way too self-indulgent. It's as if his antics as a child got laughs, and he generally has never bothered to grow up (professionally). Granted, he has parlayed this into a successful career, so who am I to second-guess him. (None of this has anything to do with the man in real-life. He has a reputation as a loyal and generous friend, and I have never heard anything negative about him.) Here is Sandler trying to get Lou Reed (!) to "break": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTcQXKxzrPg (If you take Lou Reed or "classic" music too seriously, I implore you not to watch this.)

Byron

I don’t know that I agree with that. He stretches (Splanglish, Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems, Meyerowitz Stories). He has a respect for cinema greats: getting Jack Nicholson in Anger Management and Al Pacino in Jack and Jill. He was a fan of The Longest Yard and remade that movie. He wanted to celebrate his Jewish faith so there’s Eight Crazy Nights. But yeah, there are a whole bunch of movies that are more or less excuses for him and his friends to go on vacation somewhere, because those keep the lights on.

Byron

Hmmm, I intended that to be a response to somebody but they either deleted their post before I posted this or I clicked the wrong thingy. Anyway, this was in response to somebody saying that Sandler didn’t grow.

Jordy's_Here!

Oh well now you guys have to watch some Chris Farley classics!! Tommy Boy is of course the big one, but I would also suggest Black Sheep and Beverly Hills Ninja!!

Morningstar

Please watch Four Rooms with Tim Roth 😃

tullius cicero

SNL's best of chris farley is by far the best of any. I highly suggest you watch it. He was the funniest.

Seahag

I came here looking for this. If you guys enjoyed that super small tidbit of Chris Farley, you NEED to watch Tommy Boy.

guyincognito

I really enjoyed Sandler's ode to Chris Farley in the SNL anniversary show. I swear someone was cutting onions during it.

Who Are These People

I think Billy Madison proved his qualification to run a 60k+ employee company right away; he sexually harassed his teacher. Isn't that what CEOs do? What a fun movie and a fun, funny character.

Drew Acheson

Yet another excellent thumb nail George!

Rob Church

You guys should watch Tommy Boy or Black Sheep to get familiar with Chris Farley

cutesolution9

Hey could you guys please react to rick and morty

RobTra

No American/or Canadian for that matter, but we had economics, and ethics classes in high school. Other than sparking the interest in topics which might shape your career, I'm also of the believe that school is suppose to "train" your brain in understanding and learning, create the necessary neural-paths for the future. And not just teaching facts.

michael clarke

another good movie with almost the same cast, steve, adam, chris its called "airheads". its a comedy, but slightly more serious. its fun. do tommy boy though. fall in love with chris the way we all did.

Carl Tunney

This reaction made me realize some movies and actors need to be forgotten. Turned it off quick.

Carl Tunney

There are no good Adam Sandler movies. There is only yelling and over acting. The only movies he’s ever gotten a good review for were ones he kept his mouth shut. Punch drunk love and Reign Over Me.

jmundt33a

I hope this means you'll get to The Wedding Singer

John

ugh you should watch dirty work its norm at his best

Brandon Meng

Can't watch an Adam Sandler reaction and not recommend Punch Drunk Love. His best film for me, easily. I see people hating on his other comedies but I grew up in the Adam Sandler comedy era and still love most of what he's produced: The Waterboy The Wedding Singer Mr. Deeds Big Daddy 50 First Dates Possibly some of the worst reviewed movies of all time, but still great to me!

Ryan Skinner

One of my favorite comedies as a kid. I'm now 41 and there are bits in here that still make me laugh. Eric inexplicably engulfed in flames during the decathlon will never not be hilarious to me!

Cameron Cross

Every two years I have to take a test for my job so I use a decent amount of the basic level science/math (even the powerhouse of the cell part in particular, so that made me laugh :). I also built on it in college but, for both, I still forgot pretty much everything a couple years after graduating. I have to study up before the tests. The only useful classes I had in high school were drivers ed and typing. I completely agree though. It'd be great if they had classes that went into taxes/budgeting/credit/loans/ect. I forgot how much fun this movie is. It's childish and unhinged and silly fun. I still use the "That is correct" and "I award you no points. And may god have mercy on your soul." quotes with my friends from time to time but this is a crazy old movie now for most people. It was a lot of fun watching with you two. I'm glad you guys had fun too. Early Adam Sandler movies were pretty solid. You'd probably enjoy most of them if you liked this one. Check out Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, and Beverly Hills Ninja for Chris Farley. He was hilarious and brought a ton of energy to every scene when he was still around.

Kenneth thomas

I'm sure you're getting tons of these since you've exposed your lack of Farley knowledge lol, but definitely watch Tommy Boy

Paul Peavler

Spanglish and Uncut Gems. He’s actually a decent actor he just does what he likes doing and doesn’t really care if the critics don’t like it.

Adam Custer

yes start adding Chris Farley Movies.

Joe Mallard

Tommy Boy and Beverly Hills Ninja are two of my favorite Chris Farley movies.
