Jeff K.

Wow. A poll in which I've only seen two of the movies, and one of them is one of the only movies I've ever walked out of the theater (Lost in Translation; I'm sorry, I know a lot of people love it, but it was so profoundly dull that I just couldn't make it). (My vote here is for Hunt for the Wilderpeople, because I haven't seen it but have been meaning to finally check it out for years.)

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Lost in Translation’s a wonderful film. Basically makes Tokyo look like a dreamworld and has probably Bill Murray’s best work. ScarJo’s up until Marriage Story as well

JuliusKuegel

Really hope Lost In Translation overtakes Blair Witch Project. The latter doesn't really work without the whole "is it real?" mystery behind it IMO.

Calvin Allen

I voted for the farewell and it rejected my vote and took the little ✔️ away

PartyStartsHere

Blair Witch is the only film in years to actually leave me disturbed enough to consider turning it off, but also morbidly curious enough to continue. It spawned a generation of found-footage style films, and yet it is still the best of all of them.

Sir Dongle

Would love to recommend Murder Party, Primer, From Dusk till Dawn, Mars Attacks!, and Dead Alive (aka Braindead) for Independent/Indie/Non-Franchise 👍🏻

JoeE

Would recommend living in oblivion and one cut of the dead

Patches

Blair Witch Project, easily! Then jump into 2016’s Blair Witch after that (or add it to the next sequel poll if Project wins this one)

Jonathan

Kill Command is what I think of any time I hear "low budget". Was made for one million pounds, but ended up a decent scifi movie with quite good special effects.

JayF

No love for Clerks? Like others have said, I've only seen the main two. Lost in Translation is the better of those IMO.

Mr TV Eye

My vote goes to Lost in Translation. Maybe not a low-budget movie, but a perfect example of an independent "filmmakers movie", just telling an interesting, original story with great acting. And Bill Murray, whom I love from his comedic movies, brings his game to a new level IMO. BTW, for a future pool with the same premise, "The Virgin Suicides" by same director (or is it directress - sorry, not a native speaker) Sofia Coppola is another fantastic indie movie, as it "Heavenly Creatures" by Peter Jackson, from the period after his early splatter-thrash and before his AAA titles like King Kong and LOTR.

Choom

A lot of great movies but I really hope Hunt For The Wilderpeople wins. The Green Knight should’ve also been on the list.

Balmung

This might be random, but I just rewatched it, and was reminded of how good it is... You guys should watch Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

The Gunslinger

Could you give Oblivion a watch? It is a very underrated sci fi film with Tom Cruise. With a beautiful score from M83.

JayF

Films that could have been on this list - The Wrestler Clerks Wind River Hell or High Water Leave No Trace Moon (2009) Stand and Deliver The World's Fastest Indian Shadowlands The Gods Must Be Crazy

MasterElodin

I hope that "Cloud Atlas" makes a poll someday. It's from the makers of matrix but it's relatively unknown despite being a fascinating movie.

Shane Leslie

I LOVE Blair Witch, but it's a very, VERY shaky movie. If Bourne caused issues, George might find it hard to get through it.

Chris B

Lost in Translation will be one of Simones favourite films after this. It's a perfect match.

Jay Davis

Blair Witch!? We really shouldn't do that to Simone! (I voted for Blair Witch btw.)

John Rybock

Eighth Grade would be a good one; thought of it with Florida Project and Short Term 12.

Parabolica

LIT is one of my top 5 films, but both Hunt… and Florida Project are great, even if the latter is a little heavy.

Deserana12

Damn was hoping Memento would make a poll like this

Joe Williams

Always happy for more indie cinema! Some future recommendations: Lady Bird Before Sunrise There Will Be Blood Michael Clayton

Lovable Lowlife

I know New Years just happened but what about 200 Cigarettes?

Duncan

wow starting 2024 with the worst patreon poll i have ever seen on one of these channels i have to agree with the fella that posted last week ,this channel looks to be running out of ideas and has begun the approach of winding down in to forgottenness

rycolaa

Sing Street and Hunt for the Wilderpeople are some good low budget movies

Adam K

Little Miss Sunshine is an unfortunate exclusion from this poll

Jeff Norwood-Brown

I’ve only seen the Blair Witch Project on this list. It’s very scary if you are genuinely terrified of witches and twigs. I’d like to see your reaction even so. Paul has very few twig references in it if you prefer that sort of film.

Logan Kerlee

I'm really not a fan of any of these movies, you guys. I mean.. The Blair Witch Project.. really? xD I know that you took these from suggestions - but that one's just god awful. xD

Ian Forbes

Sad to see Short Term 12 with so few votes. I thought it was the best film of that year and that Brie Larsen deserved the Oscar for that performance even more than her win the following year for Room. It also really shows the range of writer/director Destin Daniel Cretton who people probably best know for helming Shang Chi (one of my favorites in the MCU).

Khan1001

Lost In Translation please, its a beautiful film by Sofia Coppola, Oscar winning screenplay, Bill Murray is at his very best in this, a very young ScarJo gives a great performance as well, Simone, you will really love this one, hope it wins.

Jay Davis

Did they misspell Swingers?

Adam Wetstein

suggestion for Valentine day movie " the way we were" Robert Redford and Streisand at top of their game

Brad Lowry

Lars and the Real Girl, IMHO the best film of the Aughts. The scenes with Ryan Gosling and Patricia Clarkson are heartbreaking.

Nate Gavin

Can we get either Near Dark or the very underrated Sphere (Samuel L Jackson) for the next polls please? Thanks Simone and George!

Daniel Bjork

The Florida Project is one of the best, most realistic portrayals of American poverty I’ve seen on film

Martin Roca

Lost in translation is great

theedgeinshow

Or.......you could just watch Buckaroo Banzai

Random Nevermind

Really nice. And I am glad to see the Blair Witch here. I like it (or her) As I always do under the poll two recomendations: 1. Billie Elliot - pretty simple but solid drama. Not "fun" to watch but well done and worth to watch. 2. When the Wind Blows (1986) - it is one of the best animated movies ever by my opinion and at the same time almost nobody knows about it. It is smart, funny, scary, touching cartoon.

Jay

I love Lost in Translation, hope it wins but I'm OK with Blair Witch too.

Ben

It's been a while since I left a comment recommending some movies for you guys, and in that time you've watched a lot of the movies on my list, so here's a shorter list of recommended movies for your consideration. ⦁ 'North by Northwest' (1959) ⦁ 'Labyrinth' (1986) ⦁ 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' (1988) ⦁ 'Dead Poets Society' (1989) ⦁ 'Toy Story' (1995) ⦁ 'One Hour Photo' (2002) ⦁ 'Little Miss Sunshine' (2006)

Young Blood Priest

I voted for Lost in Translation and Blair Witch Project. I think you’ll enjoy either movie. I’m still surprised none of Kevin Smith’s movies haven’t won any polls. Clerks would have been a good addition to the independent film category. I aslo think his movie Red State qualifies as an Indy film.

Mathew Hill

My first thought for this category was Ink (2009). A dark and mysterious sci-fi fantasy. With a lack of big industry promotion it achieved a huge boost to sales after becoming the most popular movie on torrent sites, spreading by word of mouth recommendations.

Robb

The Platform would be a good addition here

Byron

I can’t say why without spoilers, but Lost in Translation pairs perfectly with Her.

Brandon Meng

Although it's the least "Indie" of them because of its production and notoriety, Little Miss Sunshine would be an outstanding indie film reaction for you guys.

Wrencher86

Someone else brought up Moon(2009) and I'm going to second that. It's a very good movie that becomes amazing when you consider what it looks like versus what the budget was. Sam Rockwell gives a stellar performance in what is essentially a one-man show. Don't be put off that it's the same director that did the WoW movie. Moon was his first film and it's a testament that some people do their best work under strict budgetary constraints. Sort of like Lucas or Neil Blomkamp.

mojo shivers

Lost in Translation would be a nice reaction for this channel. It combines a bit of humor, a bit of drama, and a whole lot of randomness that makes for an interesting film. This is my favorite Bill Murray picture but also has a great performance from Scarlet as well.

James I

Can I recommend 'Frank', low budget film and Michael Fassbender's best perfomance IMO! :)

Mycenaeus

John Carpenter’s directing debut "Dark Star" (1974) would fit in this list, too.

Onno Smits

Very interesting picks for this poll! I hadn't heard of half of these movies. The polls have not been going in my favour the past half year or so, but thankfully most of your random picks (and especially the TV show reactions) have been on point!

Sevnthdragon

For some reason I need that Giddy George and Sentimental Simone reaction to “Invincible” or “Cyberpunk:Edgerunners”… just a random share

Jeff I.

For a future poll like this, I'd humbly suggest Wind River, Mysterious Skin, and Nebraska. Happy New Year, George and Simone!

Brandon Meng

In the future would it be possible to get a poll of movies that have all polled in last place on your channel? Maybe Manchester By the Sea will stand a chance ...

Nathan

The farewell is great ✌️

DaChksta

Hunt for the Wilderpeople is one of my favorite movies ever! The fact that it is on your radar is so exciting!

Robinson vs. Parkinson's

Week 1 of recommending 1: Legends of the Fall (dir. by Edward Zwick, stars Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins). 2: The Last of the Mohicans (Dir. by Michael Mann, starring Daniel Day Lewis). 3: True Romance (Written by Quentin Tarantino, dir. by Tony Scott, stars EVERYONE.) OK, happy New Year to all! I'm going to try to focus my recommendation efforts by recommending these same three movies every week. These are three movies that you don't see reactions to very often, yet they are directed and/or written by well known directors that Sim-Eorge have enjoyed before. Hope you all don't mind, but my list of recommendations is far to long and varied! :)

von Hule

You guys, please make a Mads Mikkelsen poll including movies like "The Hunt" and "Another Round" ❤️

Kinokind

Lost in Translation is without a doubt Bill Murray's one great movie (not that the others are chopped liver!). He should have gotten an Oscar for it, although he did receive a BAFTA and Golden Globe.

wozzablog

"Brick" by Rian Johnson and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt deserves to be on one of these polls. Super low budget directorial debut with a hardbitten Noir style (set in/around a highschool)

Huckleberry lobo

In light of the recent Die Hard with a Vengeance reaction, I'm recommending more Bruce Willis with Lucky Number Slevin (2006) featuring a stacked cast and stellar performances by Morgan Freeman, Sir Ben Kingsley, Stanley Tucci, Lucy Liu, Josh Hartnett & of course Bruce Willis.

temsik28

The Man From Earth (2007)

Alex Ch

The loss of Tom Wilkinson reminded me that he’s had some great performances over the years. His work in the drama Michael Clayton might be his best, and I think it’s George Clooney’s best. The comedy “The Full Monty” is really good, and I think it would be a strong reaction.

Travis H

This is a fantastic poll! I love Indie movies and most on this list. With that said I need my fellow Patrons to watch Short Term 12! Clearly not many have seen it according to the poll numbers. I am fine with it loosing this poll but please seek out this masterpiece, it’s on peacock and the free with ads sites (Pluto, Tubi, etc) at least for the Americans. I can’t recommend it highly enough, please give it a chance. As for indie recs: In America (2002) Lady Bird Swiss Army Man Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar Happy New Year’s Cinebitches!

affe

Happy New Year Cinebingers, since i'm new here, i wanted to suggest a movie if it isn't on the list yet. The Last Duel (2021) Sadly it didn't do so well at the box office, but i liked it very much and it seems to be fairly historically accurate and has some good acting by big name actors.

Kate Suhr

A movie that was low budget but became a classic was Smokey and the Bandit. Funny movie.

QuiGon_Jim (Howe)

Happy New Year. 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' is by far the best film on that list.

Opti_Frog

Not enough people have seen Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Mark Rohal

I would love to see a "Sling Blade" reaction. It fits the criteria of independent and low budget. Billy Bob Thornton wrote, directed, and starred in the movie. It was nominated for multiple Academy Awards and won for best screenplay. It has a 97/92 RT score. It could be the start of many great Southern Gothic films (like Mud and Frailty).

sarCC

Yay! I'm so happy you'll eventually watch Hunt For The Wilderpeople and, hopefully, Short Term 12. I hope Wilderpeople will get you two to finally look into the What We Do In The Shadows universe, starting with the film and the TV show of the same name, then the glorious spin-off series, Wellington Paranormal. Unrelatedly, I hope you two watch RRR sometime this year: it'll make at least part of this year happy for you!

TGrimace

I was really hoping Dark City would be on this poll. Haha

Philipp Roensch

Oh I know you all vote for Blair Witch, but I gotta vote for The Florida Project, such a weird little movie and the director keeps surprising. Don't mind Lost in Translation, wanted to catch up with that one as well.

Jpsynergy

Maybe some other time for The Florida Project, which was one of my favorite films that year. At least we may get Lost in Translation which is also really really good. Blair Witch will do pretty well on youtube though.

MPH

Florida Project is by far the best movie on this list. Lots of good ones, but none compare to that Masterpiece.

overdev

Lars is a really good pick, underrated movie

slaythetic

Just watched 12 angry men reaction and it reminded me of this low budget gem called The Man From Earth (2007) . Imdb 7.8

Roxolan

My usual recs: - Brazil (1985, sci-fi dystopian dark comedy) - The Game (1997, mystery thriller) - Pleasantville (1998, earnest comedy-drama-scifi) - Hero (2002, colourful atmospheric wuxia) - Annihilation (2018, cosmic horror)

Darin Foat

I hope Lost in Translation overtakes Blair Witch Project. It's much more interesting.

lampofamber

I highly recommend Black Dynamite. It’s a parody of blaxploitation movies (think Shaft) and not many people know about it. Other than that, maybe a movie from David Lynch? Blue Velvet or Mulholland Drive would be nice.

Thomaz Chagas

Some suggestions: - Almost Famous (2000) - Big Fish (2003) - Make sure Simone is hydrated before watching.

Craig Bruce

How about "Primer" (2004) and its $7k budget.

NobleProfession

My Life as a Zucchini should be on here. Or something from the Irish Folklore Trilogy.

Johen Kay

You should have put Captain Fantastic starring Viggo Mortensen in the selection...

JFC

On the one hand, Blair Witch will make George ill from the shaky-cam. But on the other hand, Lost in Translation is a beautiful film. Hmm... Voting for Lost in Translation.

Om

Low budget recommendation from me: Ginger Snaps. It's Canadian, too!

AstralCars

I’m throwing out Past Lives (2023) for the next indie poll.

Jacob King

Voted for Hunt for the Wilderpeople because it’s the one I’d most like to see a reaction to and also Lost in Translation because it’s a beautiful film and I don’t think I want to get second hand motion sickness watching George watch The Blair Witch. (The Blair Witch is also very much a franchise) My alternate pick is The Lobster.

Jacob King

Michael Clayton would be a great pick.

Morningstar

I think it would be fun if you watch the movie Hackers😁

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

I guess now’s a good a time as any with this week’s theme to recommend Cube (1997), a Canadian indie Sci-Fi.

Skyruff Creative

For this category, I suggest “Run Lola Run”

Alex Ch

I don’t think we need to play Lola’s game this week since five of the seven movies here have female protagonists, including the two way ahead in the poll. On the one hand, that’s great! On the other, it’s a shame that it takes the low-budget/no-sequel poll for the industry to provide that. Also two films by future MCU directors.

Tyler Worthington

Fingers crossed that y'all take Wilderpeople punching above its weight as a sign! Great film. Same goes for Booksmart.

David Nesbit

Anything but the blair witch project ( IMO a truly terrible movie), so Lost In Transition it is.

Buhr

Blair Witch will just be George fighting not to vomit the entire runtime. It is literally 95% the shakiest of cams.

schnoobs

wilderpeople is probably my favorite taika waititi film. florida project is also really good

Happy Hanukkah

If you people refuse to vote for Sofia Coppola as a director (Lost in Translation), I'll force you to watch her performance as an actress in The Godfather 3, Clockwork Orange -style. :-)

Happy Hanukkah

Lost in Translation? Lessee... Hey, it stars Bill Murray! Cool, I could use a good comedy!

PIG

As of now, Lost in Translation and Blair Witch evenly tied at 559. I like both a ton yet I only voted for one. But oh the drama. Oh the humanity! Who will win?

Middy

I almost always vote for horror when I see it, but Blair Witch has aged pretty badly next to all the other found footage movies that came after, whereas Lost in Translation will no doubt live on forever.

AstralCars

I’m throwing out Mandy (2018) for some excellent indie Nicholas Cage goodness!

James Falato

The Best of the "Lower Tier" Films!!!

Max Carter

Oh we have a close one! Lost in Translation is a really superbly written film with some outstanding performances and as long as you buy into the vibe (because it is essentially justa vibe film) it is a very interesting watch and would love to hear your reactions to it. Blair Witch has been memed and copied by so many others pieces of media that it's hard to look past that and understand what it was when it first came out. It was truly groundbreaking more for the marketing and release methods they used when it was coming out and imo is still a properly great and scary horror film. It's also probably a better pure "react" type movie purely for Simone's reactions throughout which I can already picture. Can't go wrong with either despite them obviously being very different.

Rupert Purcat

Probably 90% of your North American audience would not know the Kiwi treasure that is "Hunt for the Wilderpeople" the best movie on this list, and Lost in Translation is good. BWP is overrated in my opinion. Cheers from Australia

UNC

Lost in Translation! Plz!

Lars G

It's did not get votes the last time it was on there, but I would love to see you guys react to Michael Clayton at some point. Tom Wilkinson just died this week and he's an absolute powerhouse in this movie. An incredible performance in a movie filled with incredible performances. Tilda Swinton won Best Supporting Actress and it's maybe George Clooney's best performance.

Alex T.

Damn, Short Term 12 was in incredibly soul uplifting film. Makes you want to help people.

Rob Church

Lost in Translation was the movie that got me into "film". I think it's a near perfect film.

femcelology

nooooo i love the florida project but its so losing this time lol. cant wait till you guys watch it though <3

Rob Church

It's so close, I think they have to do both.

AppliedJest

Lost in Translation, by a country mile. No need for a vote, shut it down. (Seriously, great, great movie)

Khan1001

Random recommendation, can you add 'Air (2023)' to the list, its about Nike and Michael Jordan, its really great, I know you guys like your sports dramas like Moneyball. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck reunite on screen once again since Good Will Hunting I think, Affleck also directs.

DELLboyDYL

Blair witch is so bland and overrated

Byron

I wanted to get a compilation of my own Top 5 “gee it’d be swell to see their reaction to these movies” list, so here that is: 1. Her 2. Glory 3. The Last Emperor 4. The Wedding Singer 5. Blue Velvet

Tim Boxall

Don't know if it counts as indie, but Secretary. Massively overlooked, Maggie Gyllenhaal is amazing, and it approaches a much maligned & misunderstood subject in a way very few other films have.

Big Gee

Hey you guys should watch some of my favs I think you would like, Boiler Room, Rounders, Airheads just a few I think you would enjoy.

G P

Check out Blue Velvet, amazing but horrifying film by David Lynch, probably his best

Tyler L

Would love to see you guys react to any of the following movies this year! The Departed Prisoners Annihilation Doctor Sleep A Place Beyond the Pines

Christian Truheoh

Not an indie movie but a relatively smaller less known movie, but The Grey with Liam Neeson is an incredibly good movie. Would love for more people to see it, especially with it being winter.

UndecidedLemon

Love Lars and the Real Girl, one of Goslings most under appreciated performances.

Travis

There’s a bunch of sleeper great movies on here but I fear Short Term 12 is not getting the love it deserves. I’d also like to throw “Leave No Trace” into the ring for future consideration as a movie that I think would even make George tear up. It’s one that got me a little bit and I never cry from movies.

Sir Dongle

Oh GOTTA recommend Mystery Men! Such an underrated gem. Plus with the amazing Late Paul Reubens RIP

Liquor & Swords

I can't think of any excuse to recommend this movie other than it is an amazing story: American Pop. (Animated/Music/Drama).

Random Nevermind

What an epic battle happens here. First time here I see two movies that are so close.

Khan1001

Looks like Blair Witch is going to steal it! damn, I'm one of the people who recommended Lost In Translation to them so I'm a bit bummed out man, Blair Witch was a big thing when it first came out, it was the first use of that style however its been copied and parodied to death and has lost all its appeal but it will be good to see Simone & George squeal! Hehe George & Simone, as its so close, any chance you could do both? or at least watch the runner up sooner rather than later, thanks.

Jay

Is this the first time a horror movie will win a non horror poll? Where were all the horror nerds last week when Texas Chainsaw was in the running 😂? I like Blair Witch but I agree with many people here........ you kind of had to be there:)

droodly

1. For Blair Witch take some anti-nausea meds and go into it pretending that you have much more limited access to information, and everyone in your smallish mid-western town is spreading the rumor that it is actual found footage. 2. Pretty sure Simone said she saw The Farewell in the Shang-Chi reaction so LIES LIES LIES! :P

Rob Church

I mean, they have to watch both right? I've never seen a face off this tight and they are opposite films so its perfect.

Happy Hanukkah

"The Blair Witch Project. Because if we had to suffer through it, then so should Simone and George!" :-)

Elder Lyons

i dont know why people act like only the winner of the poll gets watched and the rest is deleted from history forever. they even say it in the poll itself that its just to determine which ones first, not one which ones not to watch. like they literally just posted oceans 12 an hour ago, and that was the 2nd place in the previous poll and it wasnt anywhere nearly as close as this. theyve almost always done this.

UNC

Please still do Lost in Translation! It’s so good!

Raymond DeGraw

Always love your reactions, I enjoy watching along. Here are my top 5 wishlist for you to watch. 1. The Game 2. Falling Down 3. The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) 4. Secondhand Lions 5. Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight

Tyler Foster

Top 4 would thrill me in this case as I also hope to see Hunt For the Wilderpeople.

Habman

Won't see this in any poll and I doubt it will get any attention but there is a hidden gem that no reactor has done on youtube. "Powder"

Dazzler & Em

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, just a quick warning for George about the extreme shaky cam in Blair Witch. Its a fairly enjoyable film and began the hand held film era but with what we know about the effects of shaky camera work, George is best advised to be prepared.

Dan Holmes

ugh wish the Farwell got more love :)

Smooticus

I highly recommend Paris, Texas.

Rupert Purcat

Hunt for Wilderpeople (2016) easily best movie
