I love this movie so much, looking forward to watch your reaction!!

Odd Thomas

Great movie. It's a shame everyone spoiled that it was tied to Unbreakable. When we saw it at the cinema it was a total shock. The third film is the weakest though.

Odd Thomas

A great James McAvoy movie you should watch: Atonement. We also need M. Night Shyamalan's The Village; his best movie imo

Young Blood Priest

Good movie but I don’t think I can watch it again. McAvoy creeped me out in this one. 😣 Another good McAvoy movie to checkout is Trance with Rosario Dawson.

REDR58

Weakest is putting it mildly. I haven’t watched the reaction yet but I assume they are going to want to finish up with Glass, naturally, but it’s just such a collosal disappointment. All Shyamalan had to do was not…. argh…. Just some slight changes and it would have been so much better and at least not so deeply unsatisfying.

Kevin Wendell Crumb and mother is in Unbreakable. Hint: Bruce Willis testing his power outside the stadium where he works.

David Martin

The soundtrack once he gets to train station consists of only two notes, yet it's so chilling.

That's you guys skipping the chat? Kek. I don't think it's so much about considering them separate, so much as not getting bogged down with how they fit together. People knew at the time that it was related to Unbreakable, it wasn't a secret that I remember, I don't think it's a big deal so much as how I got spoiled about The Sixth Sense by my sister. A lot of people and critics talked about McAvoy's acting, definitely. Triviaception: there was actually a TV series made about Billy Milligan called "The Crowded Room" starring Tom Holland of current Spiderman fame. He's great in this but my favourite McAvoy movie is still Last King of Scotland - doesn't hurt that I'm a sucker for Forest Whitaker movies and that's one of his best too, and I'm also also a sucker for well-made semi-fictional biopics. Watching this I'm reminded that, for absolutely no reason don't worry about it but you guys need to see 10 Cloverfield and we need Mr Robot in a TV poll at some point..

Jennifer Tremblay

The first time we see Barry, we're seeing Denis. If you watch him walk around the room, he's trying to subtly adjust and straighten things up. :)

megamoo chilli

100% agree. They should've written the movie first, then counted the number of personalities and used that number. Saying it's 24 makes you think 24 is important, and it really isn't. It makes you think you will see them all, and you don't. Still like the movie. You have to watch the third one now.

Odd Thomas

For more Anya Taylor Joy I recommend Last Night in Soho and The VVitch

David Martin

It was several days, over which time Fletcher received numerous emails while she slept.

overdev

pretty disappointing movie, especially after the great unbreakable :(

Matthew Blackwood

Just prep with some aspirin and tissues for Atonement. Few films have made me ugly cry like that one.

There is a lot of real information about DID sprinkled throughout this film. There are cases of people with this disorder having alters who need glasses and other alters who don't (medically verified), and I'm pretty sure the diabetic thing is from a real case (where one alter is diabetic but the rest aren't). These or things like these have been recorded, researched and confirmed in legitimate medical studies, though there is a lot of mystery surrounding these anomalies and the disorder in general. As many are quick to point out, we know shockingly little about how the brain actually works. What I will say is that this film is actually pretty problematic in its representation of people with DID as this monster. The correlation between people who have confirmed DID and violent crime is EXTREMELY low. Low to the point that there is no measurable relationship between the two. Alters are created out of extreme and sustained trauma (usually, if not always, in early childhood), and their entire purpose is to protect "the host". This can, sometimes, manifest in self-destructive or even anti-social ways (for instance, the OCD character in this film that is such because keeping things tidy kept Keven from getting "punished" by his mom; or someone who is berated and abused for eating sugary or fatty foods, told they will be "fat" and/or physically punished for the same, may have an alter emerge that has an eating disorder or inflicts habits like "purging" in order to keep the abuser happy and, thereby - though counterproductively - protecting the host). But connecting DID to this kind of monstrous behavior is a problem. If it wasn't for James McAvoy's and Anna Joy's REMARKABLE performance I would never suggest this film to anyone. It's a fantastical piece of story telling that is unfortunately centered around a disorder that effects real people but did not have the same visibility or acceptance as other disorders and conditions, which, unfortunately also means that it did not have the same protections from harmful, stereotyping media. It is a very real condition that affects very real people. Again, the filmmaking - in a vacuum - is great and the performances were absolutely s-tier. It's just important to be aware of the reality vs the fiction here. Love you guys, as always.

There is a short film called "Split", starring Neil Greystone. You should review that.

another great acting by james mcavoy is in the film FILTH

Carry on up the khyber (1968)

Hi I'm George Junior, but my friends call me Geo-Ju

🖤George at the beginning "So we're going to try to go in this pretending we don't know it's in the same universe as Unbreakable but you can't just forget that you know something." George & Simone after the movie "I totally forgot what movie we were watching/I totally stopped thinking about it" XD Yeah, would have been cooler had you not known, especially having just watched Unbreakable but it's not a "twist" that stood the test of time well anyway. I mentioned this in the comments for Unbreakable but I've seen Unbreakable and Split sold as double features for DVD/Blu-rays, I've seen them air on movie channels back to back to back as a trilogy. So hard to not know they're connected these days. I think the point of that being a surprise reveal was just to hype up Glass, because they were already planning on making that film when they made Split. At least this is one of the rare occasions where you can go into a movie knowing the twist at the end and it takes away very little. Had you known the twist for a movie like The Sixth Sense, that would have been a different situation altogether LOL

Also Barry seems much more eloquent in the video diary than Dennis is pretending to be Barry. Dennis mostly focuses on the fashion part of Barry's personality and convinces Dr. Fletcher with it until he doesn't cling to his sketches, but hearing what Barry actually talks like, you can also notice the difference.

Logan Kerlee

Holy crap you guys! I REALLY enjoyed watching this with you both. :) I first watched this the year it was released and super enjoyed it then. I wasn't surprised by the ending, I'd already read about that online before watching. That was one of the big things that drew to me to watch this! Super happy that you both enjoyed the movie. Now I'm going to go and watch some lighter stuff. I'm thinking some Star Trek! :)

Max Krause

I think (in this universe's version of DID) Dennis might've "spawned" of Kevin's observations of what a "neat adult" behaves like and thus he might've actually behaved much older and more mature than a three year old. Of course a three year old is still lacking in his handling of speech and that seems like a barrier that might still exist in this universe. Right now I'm experiencing how a tiny baby is developing into a small human in my two year old niece and I'm really curious about her developement of speech. She's growing up bilingual, so it'll take her a little longer to speak actual German, but right now it's delightful to listen to her mashup of German, Mandarin and toddler babbling. She's starting to call me "shu shu" and it's my favourite nickname ever.

For those who don’t know or remember, Unbreakable is set in and was filmed in and around Philadelphia. Likewise Split is set and in and was filmed in and around Philadelphia. Shyamalan lives near the city and many of his movies are filmed in and around Philadelphia. George, the statue of the lions outside the Philadelphia Zoo is called “The Dying Lioness” and it has quite a history: https://www.associationforpublicart.org/artwork/the-dying-lioness/ The Philadelphia Zoo was the first zoo established in the US, chartered in 1859 and opened on July 1 1974 (delayed by the US Civil War). The exterior views of the zoo are of the real place and the tiger walk that you see near the end is real and goes over a large area of the zoo. No idea if any of the interiors are real. The music that starts to play over the last shots of McAvoy and then into the diner with Willis is the music from Unbreakable, the track is also called “Unbreakable.” I really think there was a huge opportunity for the third movie that was ultimately wasted. As good as this movie is, I really think Glass is barely 2/3rds of a great movie that is completely let down by its last 1/3rd and ending. What a shame.

Jacob King

What makes this movie enjoyable is the way it lets you work things out as the audience. Why didn’t he spray Casey? Why does Casey tell Marcia to pee on herself? What’s with the candy bowl? All the clues build toward something. This is what Shyamalan is best at (and occasionally worst at). It is problematic in its treatment of DID, and beyond that Dr. Fletcher is not the greatest therapist but it’s also a superhero fantasy movie so, meh. Kevin and his mother are retroactively in the scene in Unbreakable where David goes to the station and senses for crimes. He chases after the serial killer but one of the people that brushes past is an abusive mother with a boy. Glass is a serious misstep but I wouldn’t say don’t watch it. Maybe put it in a poll. The concept isn’t awful but lacks the weight of the two earlier movies. It’s a bit like an over eager fanfic.

Alex Ch

The first one especially can be a fun watch in an almost “Final Destination” way

WastedPo

I think there's a lot of good in "Glass," and also a lot of miscalculation. One thing that struck me about it when I revisited it recently was that Bruce Willis was likely already deteriorating neurologically by the time they were in pre-production, and was limited in what he could do, both acting wise and physically. Surely that would've limited what Shyamalan could do story-wise, and he probably had to write/direct around that. (Granted, this is just a theory. Shyamalan has certainly made some weak movies without such factors in play.)

BoredLittleLady

This is my kind of horror movie. Thriller. Suspense. 10 Cloverfield Lane has some similarities to Split and I recommend it.

djKENTO

I really want you guys to see the finale, GLASS… even though I genuinely think it’s one of M Night’s worst movies and the biggest misstep of his career. Is it worse than Avatar? No… but it’s FAR FAR FAR more disappointing. When you have that much potential… and you fumble that fucking poorly… oof. BUT I also have to give it some slack because this was about the time Bruce was really starting to show signs of his sickness and he had basically every line from the movie pumped in by ear piece. Like I said I want you to see it… but more so I don’t feel so alone in my sadness that the series ends on the sourest of notes.

K Murray

Glass was so bad. Sorry to those who liked it, but it was a bad movie and terrible ending to this supposed trilogy.

MasterElodin

So apparently this movie wasnt even nominated for any oscar at all. It was up against Ex Machina, The Martian, Sicario, Hateful Eight, Inside Out and some other insane movies though. Still I think this is one of the most insane (quite literally) acting feats to this day and definitely award-worthy. The Best Actor Oscar went to DiCaprio in Revenant. Edit: Nevermind those were from the year before. It was up against La La Land, Arrival, Hacksaw Ridge, Hidden Figures, Moana and others. Which is even worse I feel like.

MasterElodin

Also you were talking about the boys being darker. I really hope you are gonna do the 3rd season soon. You will love (and hate) it

Meth Damon

It´s not only Bruce Willis at the end that showed that this movie is related to Unbrakable, it´s the score, which began 1-1,5 minutes before Willis show up. I wish G&S would pay attention to movie scores; there are great ones in the last 30+ yrs alone: from The Thin Red Line, The Game, The Last Samurai, Copycat, The Hours, Braveheart, LOTR trilogy and The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable obviously etc.

Philipp Roensch

For me the movie is just meh, good enough, I do have my reasoning. But glad you enjoyed it and keep this trilogy going, it is still good within Shyamalan's work. I actually love how the metahumans appearing in a "real" world is used as satisfying payoff. Can't go with the inaccurate handling of ID and trauma makes you chosen message (it's the villains, but wow it's not good).

Patrick

Anya Taylor Joy somehow manages to both equally look like a goddess, and an alien at the same time. Her eyes are gorgeous but they're spaced so far apart. Personally I think her acting is pretty overrated and one dimensional. Loved this movie though.

Patrick

I think maybe you're taking this personal? I think the majority of people who watch this can tell it's not realistic for the most part. A lot of this movie reminded me of a show called "United States of Tara" which is kinda underrated because most people don't have Showtime.

Patrick

I think a better question is, wtf was he spraying that was in a commercial spray can that is that effective? Even if it was something like chloroform, that takes like 2 full mins of direct inhalation to be effective. Although to be fair, as a movie trope they make it seem like it kicks in after like 5 seconds.

Patrick

Same. This is definitely more Thriller/Suspense than horror, which I prefer. Another great thriller is Shutter Island.

Patrick

Haha yeah, I loved this movie but all of the ones it went up against are going to go down as classics. (personally I couldn't sit through more than 10 mins of La La Land but that's just not my type of movie)

Patrick

I think that they made The Beast fantastical, helps with the fact that it's not an accurate depiction of DID. It wasn't suppose to be. The fact that they literally casted Dr. Xavier from X-men helps with that lol

Middy

It's too close together that gets me. Looks suspicious.

iOmegaTron

I forgot how much I liked this movie! Thanks!

Angela D. Mitchell

I still think McAvoy should've won an Oscar for this. Not just been nominated, won. He's amazing.
