Martin Roca

Fly is a great great episode, getting my coffee ready to watch right now!

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

“The Fly” is an episode that developed because of the budget overrun that the show had accrued during filming season 3; so Vince Gilligan and crew had to accomodate the AMC schedule. Despite that it still managed to be striking and character driven toward the overall arc in the very least. Definitely a divisive episode in some aspects but it’s a wonderful experiment in its own way. It’s definitely a complicated kind of filler. Just wait until you get to ep 12 “Half Measures”… it’s masterful! PS, you’re not the worst George lol. Also agreed with Simone: “Once More With Feeling” is me favourite Buffy episode

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I'd be cool with Blue Eye Samurai, I've been hearing good buzz, but I'm also patiently waiting for you guys to get to either Rome or Fargo, or Deadwood, or... Well you know I'm down for whatever lol

Happy Hanukkah

"You're the worst" is not something I should begin my comment with, understood. Then again, it could be worse. I could hack your phone to have Simone's first three words as your auditory notification.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Deadwood just purely for the dialogue (and acting) is something that is worth watching. It’s in my top 5 shows of all time but am aware it’s not for everyone, of course

G B

NARCOS! or Ozark!

Ethan Holgate

I love the fly episode I understand why people don't though as it has nothing to do with the overall story but I find it a great break episode it has great layer and depth it shows how determined walter is and you see a side your not expecting from him also

zak

If you don't mind watching something that's ongoing, The Bear could make a really good replacement for Lasso

Brad Graeff

It was very much a bottle episode because they went over budget and couldnt film at other locations

David Dotting

The Fly is the the TV episode equivalent of the meal you throw together with what you have in the fridge the day before you get paid. You wouldn't make it intentionally, but given you were out of money it's honestly impressive you managed to make something taste good.

Stewart MacInnes

I'm not sure if it was Stephen King or my screenwriting lecturer who said it but the following advice has been stuck in my head for years - 'Everything you write should be trying to do one of two things, move the plot forward, or reveal character.' I feel a lot of people are very focused on plot and this episode doesn't really move the plot of the show forward at all, hence the hate. What this episode does brilliantly though is allow the show to pause from the insanity and just explore where our main characters are at. Love it.

michael clarke

the fly episode was my favorite episode my first time through. i didnt know there was some controversy around the episode. its so much fun, but i guess i could understand it being annoying when people just want the plot to move forward. thats why i consider it a filler episode. the movement on the plot is so small it could have been handled in three short scenes of any other episode, but was stretched out. done so very artistically imo in this case. i think you have interesting reads george. i have my interpretation, but i really had to consider your view. there is no right or wrong, your read is yours. art is subjective. for me, its mountains out of molehills. walt feels his life is out of control, and sometimes when people seem to be over reacting to something small, its because it represents something very big. walt feels so out of control that hes starting to have suicidal ideation. the fly came to represent his lack of control. it was jesse saying "its not your fault, not my fault, its not even her fault". walt gave himself to the chaos and finally slept.

PIG

I’m glad e12 and e13 go side by side next week.

Professor00

This is a “bottle” episode.

John Richards

Walter starts obsessing over the fly - the problem in his perfect lab that he cannot control - at the moment he realizes that Jesse is pilfering meth from the lab. That's why he tells Jesse that the fly is incredibly dangerous, that there is no more room for error when dealing with Gus. The fly is not guilt, it's Jesse's stealing that Walt can't deal with directly. `

UNC

Please add Succession to the watch list, pretty much swept the Emmy’s last night for a Drama series, you both would make for great reactions! BB-BCS-Succession-The Bear is my top 4 shows I would love to see reactions from you this year!

John Richards

It's not a "filler" episode, but it is a "bottle" episode - an episode with only one location with only a couple of the main characters, used to reduce production costs. The bottle episode in season 2 was "4 days out" - Walt and Jesse stuck in an RV in the desert.

Adverb

I hope you guys watch Deadwood at some point!

Paul Davey

Fly isn't filler, it's a bottle. Episodes made with the purpose of being as cheap as possible. Bottle meaning a single location, which can be filmed in less time especially without travel time/costs between locations, minimal characters etc. Essentially one step away from being a clip show.

Tay Schumaker

Definitely a lot of controversy around Fly. But I think it’s brilliant, especially in the context of the rest of the show. Binging it softens some of the blowback it caused since you aren’t going to be sitting with it for a whole week. And the last couple episodes are so intense, this is a nice breathing point

UNC

It’s so good! We need more great reactors watching this! I know they would kill the reaction.

Will Sofer

I think a filler episode is pretty much George was describing. Pretty sure what Simone's referring to is a "bottle episode", even though she's using the term "filler episode"? I don't know, but I've always understood a bottle episode to refer to an episode written to fill time, or an episode quota from a studio. And yes, "Once More, With Feeling" is indeed awesome!

GBmain

I don't love anime but I really liked Blue Eye Samurai... it's worth a watch... but damn i want you to watch Fargo, anthology series and only 10 or fewer episodes per season I think... It's really great cast and writing

Will Sofer

Rome's a pretty short series, and would be easy to do. Twenty something episodes, I think? Plus, since George is into Classics, he could probably explain anything that was a bit unclear.

Korpse

"fly" gives me vibes of special movies that proved you can make a great product with minimal budget and scenery change i.e. 12 angry men and Clerks. Its solely dedicated to great dialogue and internal characters development 🤘

Tenwyn

I think people disliked "Fly" when it first aired because it was just a filler episode and it didn't advance the plot in any way. Having to wait another week for the next episode I think made people dislike this one, but now that we can immediately go on to the next episode helps people appreciate this one more.

Carlos Hurtado

Don't feel shy about guesses and theories. It's part of the fun.

JusteFlo

Yes to The Bear, no to it fitting the same in the schedule as Lasso. The Bear is way heavier, I don't think it would work well as a "palate cleanser"

Nathan Jasper

No one has experienced filler episodes like One Piece anime fans

Tcrimson05T

When I think filler my first thought is anime because I watch a lot of anime. And I do agree with George's definition but like Simone said filler doesn't equal bad

Jonny Mullins

I consider "Fly" to be the opposite of a filler episode: it doesn't sit on its established pacing or stucture; it doesn't tack on action to distract from a lack of storytelling; it doesn't go through the motions and fill time for no reason. No, instead, it drops you into a psychological stupor; the fly is seen and heard, and you don't quite know why it's relevant, why Walt fixates on it, why the camera fixates on it, and you're with Jesse, bewildered, trying to find significance in Walt's manic focus on such a trifling object; but over time, past the bottled delirium, the awkward pauses, the slapstick hunt for the fly, everything slows and focuses. And now you're with Walt. He's now lucid. In his wooziest, weakest state, his thoughts crystallise and his words are honest. He sees meaning, not just atoms colliding. He sees consequences. He sees the danger of Jesse's improvised tower, and the senselessness of hunting the fly. "It's all contaminated." He stops just short of revealing the secret of Jane's death, and so it continues. If only Walt would give in.

megamoo chilli

Tomas said Bounce, which is what Combo said to him before being shot. Yes other people say it in the show but I think this is Tomas trying to sound like a drug dealer by copying Combo. A hour and half in I notice the star trek badge. Is there star trek reaction coming up?

Tenwyn

This show has literally become a slippery slope

LazyArtist

My one recommendation: Mr. Robot. But I understand if it's not considered popular enough to warrant the time investment.

zak

Yeah The Bear definitely doesn't have the warm and fuzzies like Ted Lasso, but it's good enough that it might not be an issue.

Muir Lyman

Fly isn't a filler episode, it's a bottle episode.

j c

NUCLEAR READINESS ALERT hi George hope this notification scared you

Angus Kirk

YES WATCH BLUE EYE SAMURAI

J. Valentine

I know that George is joking, but he's definitely right about this show having a lot of hidden meanings. The fly can definitely represent something in Walt's mind that's bothering him, and will continue to bother him forever, as we can see at the end.

PureGonzo

“Fly” is actually one of my favorite episodes of the entire series, and beautifully encapsulates the genius of the show’s vision and writing. To convey so much meaning and create so much tension within such a simple and stagnant environment is just… amazing. The first time I saw it, I was more on the edge of my seat than many of the more action-packed episodes. One of the many reasons Breaking Bad is such a masterpiece is that not one episode is wasted… not even a single scene is unnecessary (at least in my opinion). Remove anything from it, no matter how seemingly insignificant, and the rest of the series loses some of its brilliance.

Justin Hunt

Blue Eye Samurai is such a great show. Please watch it on the channel.

GhostCat

"I threw up in my mouth a little bit." - Jane

Jesse Coombs

Deadwood would be amazing. Not many people react to that show, and maybe they'd pull in new viewers because of it?

Actuarial Lurker

I think part of the point of this "episode in a bottle" is that they have to do ALL of this menial cleaning work that in a legit pharma lab some PhD wouldn't do- but since nobody can know about this lab and the equipment must be kept to exacting cleanliness standards Wlat and jesse have to all of this themselves. It DOES show how OCD Walt is in that a "mere fly" will destroy his cook. He is OBSESSED with perfection and that is an achilles heel...

Jesse Coombs

The Bear is one of my favorite shows of the last few years. I became a paying patron because they did The Wire, and The Bear is another show that would get me to pay money to see the full reactions. (That and Twin Peaks, lol). Also, it might not be as warm as Ted Lasso, but it has a ton of heart and humanity. But yeah, it's a gritty show.

MR

It's pretty easy to catch a fly if you know the trick: When a fly takes off as you swat at it, it always flies BACKWARDS away from where it was looking. Clap your hands behind a landed fly and you'll get him.

Actuarial Lurker

This episode reinforces how Walt and Jesse are just peons in this massive "drug corporation". So it IS just like working in a cubicle- just with LOTS of pay and risk

E. D.

Damn George, did you just spoil a Ted Lasso episode lol

tullius cicero

Breaking bad doesnt have fillers imo. Its a builder not a filler

Actuarial Lurker

A Quote off Wikipedia right from show runner Vince Gillgan's mouth": "Fly" was produced as a result of the series' considerable budgetary restrictions and being unable to afford the $25,000–$35,000 needed to move the production trucks to a new location.[1] Series creator Vince Gilligan remarked: "We were hopelessly over budget ... And we needed to come up with what is called a bottle episode, set in one location."[1] The episode was written by Sam Catlin and Moira Walley-Beckett, and directed by Rian Johnson; it aired on AMC in the United States and Canada on May 23, 2010. ......despite this it has been critically acclaimed and compared to the episode Pine Barrens form the Sopranos

Jesse Coombs

If they want to see a good example of the difference between "filler" and "bottle" episodes, they should check out "Community". Not many shows break down TV tropes better than that one.

Jesse Coombs

Warning: Community does have a musical episode, but it's mainly there to make fun of musical episodes, lol.

Mike Miner

George: We only have two episodes left, things need to start escalating. Me: Posts the "that escalated quickly" meme

Jonah Bertorelli

request for what you want, not what you don't want. that's some selfish stuff right there. they can make content for you and content for others. but asking them to specifically not do content that other people will like?? c'mon

Jonah Bertorelli

I've never been one for Anime(still not fully convinced), but seeing someone comment made me feel like I should share the other side of that opinion to keep it fair. I recently started watching Attack on Titan, (super skeptical before, but with some cool spoilers I decided to watch it.) and it's actually a very good show. good writing, good twists, lot of action, emotion, character arcs, and a bit of gore. (it has some stereotypical silly anime feature and characteristics, but it's a very good show overall!!) It's also getting some serious following /interaction with the reactors I've seen reacting to it/ watched along with. So seems to be doing well for those creators. I'm still not the person who's like "you should watch anime!" in general but this show in particular I think you guys would REALY like. And would be cool to watch you react to it. so PLEASE put it in a poll in the future if neither of you have seen it. This is coming from someone who is not into anime, and probably won't dive much further. Just a fantastic and super interesting story/plot!

Jonah Bertorelli

you're right in that this is a filler episode, and that's why people dislike it, but also right that there is some important symbolisms and you've picked up on a few that even I missed. And it's nice to see someone appreciate the small things and not buy into the whole "this episode shouldn't be here" bs way of thinking lol. Good catches George!

Charlotte Drolet

Some people need something really tragic to happen in their lives so that they don't waste energy on every little thing. They asked if that was something we would be interested in and I could not remember the name of the show George had just said. Now I have one asking if I am "Against" all anime and another calling me selfish.🤣🤣🤣 And I am the odd one huh?

Charlotte Drolet

Here is just a thought. What if my comment was not that serious? What if that was just my retarded way of saying "No George, I for one am not interested. " What if there were no FEELINGS behind it? I know it seems impossible when everything in the world is FEELINGS. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Vwlss Nvwls

FYI... there are no filler shows in this series. Every show adds to the overall arcing stories. Filler to me is a stand alone episode that does not effect the arcing stories. I see the "Fly" episode as all of Walt's guilt finally overwhelming him, and he realizes that all his current problems started the night Jane died. Even if he feels he has been 'forgiven' by Jesse, there is still everything else that has happened since.

Patrick

Episode 10 feels like I'm watching a completely different show.

Diiirk706

''The Fly'' won a FUCK-TON of awards including a God Damned Emmy, AND is a *critically* V I T A L piece of this puzzle, not to mention what is says/does for Walt's character... Fuck y'all and your ''defending'' BULLSHIT.

Patrick

I wonder what happened to Gale. From the perspective of Gus, having a potentially disgruntled employee out in the world who knows about your secret meth lab would be a big "loose end". Wouldn't be surprised if he was killed.

Jonah Bertorelli

Every single metaphor you mentioned, not only fit, but I'm willing to bet if it wasn't a direct intention of the writers not only would they be proud/ happy to hear it inspired that thought from a fan, but it they have to all at least be in the ballpark of what they were trying to convey.

Josh B

I've love to see you guys watch Barry.

jackthegent

need succession and the sopranos at some point

John

I would recommend the Good Place as a comedy for a the poll for the next show

Jonah Bertorelli

George you pre-watchin mfr!! calling everything out seconds before it happens 2 episodes in a row! hahahahaha jkjk but seriously good guesses and that's a funny coincidence hahaha well done!

Jonah Bertorelli

The kid said "bounce" just like Combo did to the kid before he shot him. funny how they even had the kid take on a trait of someone they killed. like walt and the crust on the sandwich.

Vwlss Nvwls

Skylar is finally starting to understand why Walt is doing all this, and she is trying to make sure it is done correctly, as well as support his choice because she never truly stopped loving him. That is my opinion of her actions.

Josh B

You're not reaching George, that's exactly what the fly represents, I think. And as others have said, it's a bottle episode (to save money since they went over budget elsewhere), rather than "filler" I would say, since it does not advance the plot but has some pretty important character beats in it.

Josh B

Simone name dropping Buffy and Once More With Feeling. Yeeeesss.

Young Blood Priest

Barry on HBO and Beef on Netflix would be good additions to the new poll.

Mike Miner

Barry would be great. But there are some references to "Magnolia" and "True Romance" which would help a little (although not necessary). Those are the two I can think of off the top of my head. Any other Barry lovers able to think of other film references?

Jeff I.

Beef would be perfect for them to do. Brilliant writing and acting, and it's only 10 episodes with each episode being around 35 minutes long. I'd love Barry as well, of course.

Brandon Meng

Recommend Schitt's Creek or Curb Your Enthusiasm for next comedy series, or The Bear as a comedy/drama.

PureGonzo

Also, you definitely nailed it George; the fly is meant to represent Walt’s guilt, i.e., all the harm he’s caused everyone around him. Or at least that was my interpretation of it.

Alex Ch

I would really love to watch along with Deadwood please

akaTheBARON Tokyo Drift

🖤I knew each new comment was its own email but you actually get notifications? Like audible? I hope for your sanity its just a silent one in the upper screen menu as opposed to a "ding" because I know that would drive me crazy LOL.

Śéáń

With regards to filler episodes and anime, and the negative connotations with the word "filler": Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, probably my favourite anime of all time (though I'm not the most well-read anime fan) is completely structured around "filler" episodes and plot-driving ones. Each episode title comes with the tags of "Stand Alone" or "Complex". Complex episodes are part of the overarching plot of the season, while Stand Alone episodes can be treated as individual, self contained stories. It's pretty nice to be informed what is going to be shown ahead of time.

akaTheBARON Tokyo Drift

🖤Walt falling in the fly episode was a stunt double. The crew used photographs to get Bryan Cranston into the same position as the double so when the camera approached Walt, it looked like it was Bryan Cranston who took the fall.

Patrick Brownfield

I CANNOT WAIT to see your reactions to the next two eps!

Mr TV Eye

Blue Eye Samurai is definitely a show I would (re)-watch with you guys. IMO it's not as great as Arcane, but it's a damn good anime-show nonetheless.

Who Are These People

'Fly' doesn't move the plot and doesn't really change the characters so it is by definition a filler. But it was a filler with Cranston and Paul just acting off each other without interruption and I loved it. And if you're the type of person to think metaphorically it's a fist-pumping mind-tickle, which George visually demonstrated at 48:05 :D

Graham Bullman

I have no problem with "filler" episodes, and in this case it was a good one for me. As far as Buffy goes, I loved that series, but for me that musical episode was the worst Buffy episodes by miles throughout all the seasons. I hate them. 🤣

DeAndrew Greene

I know everyone loves to call Walt evil and stuff and there's some validity to it but him and Tony Soprano are 2 of the best characters ever written because they're complete characters with all the aspects of humanity. That's why you can still root for him and wanna see what happens despite the awful things he does sometimes.

Conner

The fly represents how Walt has contaminated himself with his actions and how he's overcome with guilt and handles it in an unhealthy way. It's why when he gets home there's a fly in his house, its not the lab that's contaminated, its his life.

Tim T—

You're the Worst, George, is really a great show* If you like people climbing on household stuff to catch a fly, you'll love the opening of Brazil (1985) – the fly sets the whole weird happenings of the movie in motion. I’d recommend something of Community (Comedy), Deadwood (Western Drama), High Maintenance (Dramedy, perhaps?), Rome (about Rome), and Reacher (Action wish-fullfilment, paired with crime, every season is self-contained). Luck is an utterly great TV series from the maker of Deadwood, but I can't recommend it here – it's not Simone-compatible. * opening extra worded for email preview.

Jeff K

I'm just now getting around to watching, but just wanted to say, Simone, your hair looks great in this video! (George, yours looks terrific too, please don't be offended). Also, I kept waiting to see if y'all would notice/react to "Directed by Rian Johnson" for episode 10.

Ben

I'll admit, the TV shows aren't the biggest draw for me on this channel, in fact, Breaking Bad is the first show you've watched that I'm interested in watching along with. Having said that it also happens to be one of my all time favourite shows, so I'm so glad you're enjoying it! If you are going to watch more series though, I'd like to again recommend 'Derry Girls', a Northern Irish comedy, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. My main reason for leaving this comment though, is that I've just thought of another show I'd love you to watch, and that's 'Twin Peaks', maybe you've already seen it, I don't know, but if you haven't, I hope you consider it. Thanks guys!

Ral Zarek

If you guys watch an animated show, i would really like if you guys watched Frieren: Beyond Journeys End. It's an anime thats very recent (started last year) and has taken the anime world by storm and i think you guys would absolutely love it.

Travis

YES PLEASE WATCH BLUE EYE SAMURAI ITS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

djKENTO

Just do Blue Eye Samurai. It’s only 8 episodes and a handful are only 30 minutes, some are an hour. But still… it’d only be like… 4 weeks at most? Do it. I guarantee it’ll pull in new people too.

john blake

I know I’m just a lonely voice in the wilderness but I would like to invite you to consider the HBO show Deadwood. You really won’t be disappointed.

idrinkthere4iam

31 episodes down, 31 to go. Can’t wait to experience the second half of this show with you both. Gonna be a fun ride. You ain’t seen nothing yet.

MJH

Not a lonely voice. Quite a few people have suggested it in the past.

JayF

The Fly was a pretty divisive episode when it aired. People either hated it or loved it. I'm on the latter side.

Martin

Blue Eye Samurai is a must-see. You WILL NOT regret it.

Paul G

The official industry term for episodes like Ep. 10 is “bottle episode.” It describes an episode that only utilizes existing sets and features minimal costumes and props and generally has few to no guest stars. Bottle episodes are great ways to stay below budget while focusing on character growth. Star Trek, particularly TNG, is the master franchise when it comes to bottle episodes.

Travis H

George was on fire this episode! I personally can’t stand the term “filler episode”. Most people use it to describe anything that is different from a standard episode of the show, isn’t action heavy, or just an episode they dislike. A filler episode is an episode where there was zero advancement of the plot or character development. While I like the episode, the Beard episode of Ted Lasso it was pretty much a filler episode. You don’t really learn anything new about Beard really and not much of the episode matters in the future. Filler shouldn’t mean bad, but that’s what it apparently now means because of people that use it wrongly. Fly is not a filler episode (neither is it a bottle episode but that is a whole different argument). I am not a fan of anime (at least what I have seen, which granted is very little) but tried Blue Eyed Samurai because of some critics I like giving it a lot of praise. I absolutely loved it and really hope both of you cover it. And I am probably going to get some unwanted comments from this but I don’t know if you two should cover Succession. It’s a great show and you both should watch it, but it’s a VERY political show and I worry about the comments here becoming very….lets go with unpleasant. Again just my two cents, I just worry.

Grand Moff Slackin'

Was gonna post this too. It felt like bottle episode was more what they were taking about rather than filler.

Sheens

You're the worst if you don't put Mr. Robot on your next TV show poll

StrayConfusion

Thoughts regarding fillers: My understanding is that the term sprang to popularity because of anime, with the most notable example coming from Naruto. [MINOR SPOILER FOR NARUTO] At one point in after a major plot event, the Naruto manga makes a three year time jump to age up the characters. When adapting for the anime, the studio made the decision to write three additional seasons (over 75 episodes) to fill the time jump. While they had a good reason to do this -- the anime was catching up to the manga and they wanted to give the author time to finish their story -- audiences largely became tired of watching a year and a half of stories that were inconsequential to the main plot, were disconnected from manga canon, and weren't up to the same quality standards as the rest of the series. [END OF SPOILER] Maybe this is just my interpretation but, I feel like a filler episode by definition must deviate from a source. Where the writers of the Naruto anime wrote new content to buy time for their source material to develop further, the writers of Breaking Bad aren't drawing from source material. The episode, Fly, is a largely self-contained story, primarily featuring a single filming location. The writers had a budgetary constraint for the episode and wrote around the constraint in a smart way. I see that as a fundamental difference from what would traditionally be described as filler.

Andrew Ramos

It wasn't so much a "filler episode" as a bottle episode. Big difference

Max Hassam

E10: Some may call it a "filler" episode, but the writers & producers describe it as a "bottle" episode, which is where, to save money, an episode is filmed mostly in a singular location with fewer actors. I like the early interpretation of the fly from George, but have to agree that his final theory, the fly representing Walt's guilt (particularly over Jane) haunting him is the most apt. - To consider Walt's guilt, Jane's dad tells Walt to not give up on family, so he doesn't and rescues Jesse from his downward spiral by letting Jane die, resulting in the man who told him to not give up on family to lose his own family, cause over 150 people to die and then attempt suicide. Walt knows all this. I can't imagine living with that. An extra bit of symbolism/potential foreshadowing is that when Jesse finally does get the fly (Walt's guilt), he wasn't awake/around to be there for it... E11: Not much to say except don't be concerned about thinking you missed something with Jesse, his anger at the end will be explained in the next episode, it's not something you missed. Speaking of, what a ride you two are in for the next 2 episodes!! Can't wait! :)

JBK405

I'm one of the few people who is solidly middle-of-the-road when it comes to "Fly". I don't hate it, I thinks it's perfectly serviceable and I wouldn't describe it as "filler", but I also don't think it's the best episode of the series. A line from "Fly" that I do absolutely love is when Jesse said "We make poison for people who don't care". Like back when he recognized "I'm the bad guy" in the first episode of this season, I honestly think it shows that he's got the most self-awareness out of any character in this series. Walt can talk all he wants about how it's The Chemistry that matters to him, and Gale said the same thing, but at the end of the day they're still "only" drug manufacturers. They have no moral superiority over the druggie who's using a scratch-kit in an abandoned basement to churn out sour hash. Their product is better on a technical level, but it's still exactly the same. I will say that there's a scene in the next two episodes -- one specific scene -- that I think is honestly one of the best scenes ever put to film. Forget everything else, forget the entire rest of the series, that ONE SCENE makes the whole show worthwhile in my book. I recommended watching "The Good Place" after "Ted Lasso", since it's another relatively short, funny series that can slide right in to the slot. But I definitely wouldn't object to "Blue Eye Samurai". That show is also great, and I'd love to hear your takes on it.

UNC

Thank you for this wonderful reaction. I know I have commented a ton but going to keep suggesting Succession as another show, would love BCS right after BB but succession would be amazing content as well. :)

MikeO8575

Blue Eye Samurai was fantastic. You should definitely watch it for Patron.

Tenn Seven

So do they not do month-end/year-end recap videos anymore or am I just missing them?

Jesse Coombs

So many good shows to recommend, and yet I forget about The Good Place. It's so good.

Jesse Coombs

I'm assuming they'll get to Better Call Saul. I'm rewatching it now and it's so good.

George Amberson

I really hope that the HBO Watchmen series will be on the poll for what to watch next! Not that I think it’ll win, because I don’t, but one season of 9 episodes is hard to beat as a filler series while we finish up Ted Lasso and Breaking Bad! Everyone voting: Please, if you haven’t seen Watchmen, consider it vs. something you’ve seen before. It’s so so good and has a lot to say. I implore you all to at least consider it instead of some long (3+) seasoned series. Please. Watchmen is so amazing and, in my opinion, grossly underrated.

George Amberson

If you wanna go with a multi-season series, I’d suggest The Leftovers. Only 3 seasons and 28 episodes, but the story and mythology make for an amazing discussion. I’m sure others in this discussion have seen it, and maybe they hate it, but the discussion around the content itself cannot be denied. It is, in my humblest of opinions, second only to the Watchmen series in terms of discuss-ability, and, what it makes you feel…

Muir Lyman

I'm sure Simone and George would enjoy watching Community, but *man* are there a lot of American pop culture references they won't get.

Josh

I cannot wait for next week.

Śéáń

If you're polling for an in-between season series, I'm going to throw in a hat for Barry as an option Super short 4 seasons - 8 eps each, ~30min episodes Excellent dark comedy/drama with Bill Hader and Stephen Root.

"You're the Worst, George, is really a great show" You are absolutely right! For you ignorant philistines, "You're the Worst, George" is a 50s/60s black&white sitcom featuring hapless George and his ditzy wife Simone. I've spent hours laughing along to the patently inauthentic and frankly absurd laughtrack. For whatever reason, my mind segued to the following "improv comic" by the Scott McCloud: https://www.scottmccloud.com/1-webcomics/mi/mi-15/mi-15.html

schnoobs

i agree with the comment above me, Barry is a good one but it probably wont win a poll cause not a lot of people have seen it

BangDroid

"I mean they have camera's watching them, we know that, we've seen that." Erm, no, not yet George. No camera's in the Lab at this stage. The end of the scene in Gus's house is meant to make you think he knows about the theft and there may be bugs like Walt suspected. Camera's are not a thing yet, I don't know where George got that idea from 🤔 Unless there's another explanation for guessing plot points so accurately 🙊

Brandon Ward

Will never even watch the fly episode ever again. Episode was straight hot dog water compared to every other episode. Even given Walt's good speech at the end. The ending episodes are straight masterpieces.

Travis H

It’s definitely really close to a bottle episode, but by definition it’s not. Bottle episodes are entirely filmed on a single preexisting set without guest actors. They are typically made to save money. This is an episode with a special director, on location filming (laundry mat ext.), cgi (the fly), and elaborate cinematography. It’s clearly inspired by bottle episodes, but it’s not a bottle episode. (But it is a fantastic episode)

Patrick

This. Everything beyond a handful of episode of season 1 is new to me, it's just a prediction based on Gus's pragmatic/cut throat approach to his empire. If it does turn out to be true Muir Lyman, you in fact would be the spoiler by confirming it...

Jeff K

Finally got caught up, and holy shit, George was on FIRE with his guesses/predictions. Like, it's absolutely wild.

Pk

You're gonna love "You're the Worst"... one of the few comedies worth my time in the last decade...

G P

Twin Peaks would be another awesome show to hit after BCS

Deco

What we do in the shadows would be a good replacement for ted lasso

Deserana12

I mean tbf I was ready to call BS and then I quickly scrolled back through the last 3/4 episodes because I was convinced there were cameras but nope. Nor any scenes that seem to be on about cameras or watching others through cameras. So genuinely I have no idea how he can say that unless he’s getting confused with a very similar meth making show or he actually has seen it before. Though it would be very silly and committed to fake reactions for that many hours.

JoeE

Love ferry girls they will definitely need subtitles

Elder Lyons

i feel like you guys are waaay over thinking one casual comment 🙄 assuming someone like Gus would have security cameras isnt exactly far stretched... its like assuming Tuco would have a gun on him at all times. i mean like you said Charley, even you were convinced there was cameras and had to scroll back to check again. besides, what about the other million times hes wrong with his guesses, the one time he gets a few things right and suddenly its tin foil hat deep state time?

james repka

If you're looking for something to replace Ted Lasso, might I recommend either The Good Place or season 1 of Fargo (the television series)

BangDroid

Your comment is fair, but my point is there's a difference between making an assumption and stating categorically "we know that, we've seen that". And it's so hard to convey tone and meaning in text, I thought my use of emojis would lighten the tone to more tongue-in-cheek and playful one, I guess not lol. It may seem like I'm fixating on this, but it's just what I chose to comment about, there were a dozen other things, not even critical but I'm not a fan of comment essays.

Jeff K

Hard agree on The Good Place. That, Lasso, and Schitt's Creek are the three go-to shows for me when I want great comedy, touching and wholesome moments, and just a general feel-good vibe.

Haye Zeus

Blue eyed samurai is so gud

HeyHeyJK

Totally agree on all three of those for the exact same reasons. I'm rewatching "Schitt's Creek" right now, actually. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is also great, although I think I still haven't watched the last season.

windyWin

I love this show. Thanks for reacting to it as always.

Randell Paszt

This was a bottle episode, it was made for budget reasons.

simon brouillard

Exactly, basically one location, a couples of extra without lines, that episode probably cost a tenth (I honestly have no idea) of a regular one which allows them to spend more on others. The X-Files had the monster of the week episodes but that show had over 20 episodes a year, musical episodes requires so much preparation and time. You can have a network/studio that asks for 12 episodes and you have an arc of 10 and the 2 “extra” episodes turn out bad it’s more on the creator/show runner. That episode was contained but it still progressed the story.

LT

YES YES YES on Blue Eyed Samurai!

Travis

They can cut that out. It’s not like they’ve never watched a movie with nudity on here.

MikeBdrx

if you want another show to do i'll just put Ash Vs evil out there lol

Michael LaPorte

You're absolutely mad. It's a brilliantly written and shot episode that could have easily been a Samuel Beckett one-act play.

Daryl

And then George proceeds to “guess what” through the entirety of the series 🤣🤣🤣 moments before the thing he guesses happens

LT

The 3 of you are geniuses and they should watch all of those lol. I really need to revisit Schitt's Creek and Unbreakable. I am in a constant state of rewatching The Good Place though lol. So smart at times and so charming all of the time.

BlindPanda

Some anime would be great on this channel, I’m sure you’d love it and it would be great for your viewers to check out something new ✌🏻🐼

Elder Lyons

what like the entire genre of animated storytelling? you actually just HATE all of it? or do you mean specifically Japanese creations? but still just all of them, uniformly induces hatred in you.

Aiden

I think George Is exactly right about the fly representing Walt’s guilt. You’ll notice the fly appear again later in the show in that context

Jasper Collins

There are so many themes that the fly represents. Overall Walt's problem with perfectionism, his guilt towards Jessie, Walt's humanity and so on. It's a great episode to think and talk about.

Scott Gibbs

Instead of "filler" I'd say episode 10 was simply a break from furthering the plot to further the characters.

ArionC

Blue eye samurai is amazing, definitely worth a watch

Honey Hermsen

The crazy thing is, Simone was right about the stunt 😄

Honey Hermsen

I'm gonna make a show with just filler episodes and call it Goodfillers

Dan Holmes

Difference between "Filler" and "Bottle" episodes, one (filler) to fill needed space like with ted lasso, the other (bottle) to save money for a future more expensive episode

Justin

Skyler's lullaby to Holly over the fly in the cold open is from Phoenix when Walt is watching the nature show about an elephant and her calf. A reminder of the innocent lives Walt's destroyed to get to where he's at now and the fly is representation for the guilt and skeletons that are following Walt's conscience. There are references to the fly throughout the whole series in the shots & in the music. One of the writers said he wanted the fly to have a "menacing presence". I believe Vince & Rian Johnson were paying homage to the 1986 Jeff Goldblum remake: 'The Fly'. You can't help but think of this episode while watching it. The fly is the reason for Seth's (the protagonist) downfall hence why Walt treats it as if it's so deadly to them. The fly is representation for the morally wrong decisions Walt's made that he can't shake free from. It wakes him up at night in the closing scene. It's to say he was or still partially is a "good man" at least enough to feel remorse. He came from a place of morals before the criminal lifestyle to a certain degree. The metal reaction vessels in the lab resemble the Telepods from the movie, the lab itself and it's high ceilings resemble it's industrial warehouse–esque set. Walt even says the fly is not Particularly dangerous to them. And "This fly is a major problem for us it will ruin our batch- we need to destroy it and every trace of it. Failing that... We're Dead". So much emphasis on the fly- as if the fly itself is deadly to them and not Gus. Seth is careless about the telepod machine's safety precautions after awhile, I like to think that's reflected when Walt finally says: "it's all contaminated" aside from accepting his fate. Jesse on top of the ladder could be an analogy for some kind of moral high ground while Walt holds onto it from down below, propping it up while struggling with Jane guilt. Walt asks Jesse what are the odds that he runs into Jane's father at the bar, which was part of the catalyst for Jane's tragedy sorta like what are the odds of a fly flying into the telepod with Seth? The fly was out of it's element like Walter is in this business. It reminds me of 0210 when after Walt gets done installing the new water heater Jr burns his hand from the hot water as if even when Walt tries to do good, bad things happen. Literally the theme. Walt says: "You want them to miss you, you want their memories of you to be..." good, is what he was thinking. Seth wasn't proud of his work and didn't necessarily want his lover to see what he had turned into... Seth had a genius brain with such a bright future ahead of him and good intentions but by mostly circumstance he turned into an unlovable, deplorable monster that would rather be dead then carry on- a lot like Walter- "Oh, if I had just lived right up to that moment... and not one second more". Jesse's opossum rant is referencing the two-sidedness of the characters and his story about the cancer spreading to his aunt's brain and changing her could also be a nod to the movie. Not to mention BB is all about Change, Metamorphosis and Assimilation.

Harry Fieldson

My interpretation of why Skylar changed her mind and decided to get involved is just that she sees Marie and Hank are depending on her now. For the first time it's not just Walt planning for some far off eventuality, there's going to be weekly reliance from her family on that promise she made now. So, in my mind, she kind of feels like she has to ensure Walt doesn't fuck it up.

Bert Johnson

I dont watch sitcoms at all, but You're The Worst is SO fantastic.

Benjamin-Ian Astley-schaack

Fly is financial filler. Filler usually comes from having more money behind your production than ideas, and you need something to put out. This is a bottle episode, which tend to born out of the opposite; we have big ideas that require us to go cheap here in service of full sending it there

Armchair Rizzard

I cant wait for the day you two watch the Sopranos.

Thall

Fly is still my favorite episode. I am sure there are ways to shoehorn in metaphors and all that jazz, but i just love watching it. It's so fun! No idea why so many people get so angry about this episode. Americans man, everything needs to be quick quick quick hyper efficient bullshit. Just enjoy the ride, lol.
