Zachery Gaskins

"Emotional affair" is the perfect word for it - her soul is older, his yearns to remain young. Their vibes are in alignment, but their lives are not. Two ships passing in the night.

Joe Williams

Such a great "Vibes" movie. I love romance movies like this that feel transitory. It's for a time and place before normal life resumes. "Brief Encounter" is another classic in the same vein.

Matthew Johnson

George as a fellow short fat neck haver, I feel you.

Matthew Wabals

One of my top 5 favorite movies ……

ra ra rasputin

oh look! its the 2nd place of the previous poll! the one where a bunch of people were throwin tantrum wasnt winning and there for it mUsT mean it will nEvEr be watched!

Ghost Dog

Cool. I forgot how much I liked this movie. Thanks for the rewatch!

Ghost Dog

So...when are we watching 'Amadeus'? (sry for double post) /clumsy

Zinphad

This is a thumbnail I've honestly been looking forward to.

BDC

Sophia Coppola is a great director. Very underrated. Check out "Virgin Suicides" (1999) next. She creates vibes and is able to sustain them really, really well.

Who Are These People

George, Simone is right: Everyone in the world is 5' something. In the case of Shaq, he's 5'37"

Who Are These People

No, you don't understand cat-man, they have taken a vow to never watch 2nd place movies in order to attain to the purity of Nirvana.

Elder Lyons

i thought it was because if a movie didnt win 1st place on a Cinebinge poll, it gets permanently placed into room 101 and ceases to exist!

mojo shivers

Absolutely one of my top 3 films ever. There’s such a quiet grace to this film, a kind of crushing quiet that’s hard to capture in film. Even in the humor you can feel both characters’ struggle to remain joyful when their lives seem so out of control. And I love that they find each other at a time when they feel so isolated. Such a moving film for being as funny as it is.

Gerald Walker

There is a lot of 90's pop culture subtext here..apparently, Sophia Coppola based this on her marriage to Spike Jones (who she later divorced), and Anna Farris is supposedly playing a version of Cameron Diaz (who later dated Spike after the divorce)

Middy

That's a hard hitter. Great movie, but damn, not easy.

Daniel Bjork

Past Lives is a movie that came out in 2023 that has a similar vibe of nostalgia/sadness/what could have been. Strongly recommend.

Byron

Fun fact: Scar Jo was about 17 IRL in this movie. For more fun Murray vibes: Rushmore For more fun Scar Jo vibes, but with Spike Jones (aka Sophia Coppola’s ex husband) directing: Her For even more fun Scar Jo vibes (if Woody Allen can be tolerated): Vicki Christina Barcelona

Michael Rytter

Such a great reaction to one of my top three all time favorite movies!

Graeme McCutcheon

One of my favourite "vibes" movies. Another favourite I recommend - different kind of vibe - is Miami Vice (theatrical cut please if you do watch), which would tick off another Michael Mann movie. And heartily second another commenters recommendation of Rushmore - another of my top 10 favourite movies. Let's get some Wes Anderson in this channel!

RobTra

Not gonna lie, I felt very uncomfortable through the movie. Probably because I had a close friend in almost the same situation as Charlotte ... the exception was, she didn't stop at the kiss, and it didn't end well.

tundra

I read somewhere that Billy Murray's character represents Harrison Ford in this scenario.

sage765

NEEEED to do Her(2013) next

sage765

Spike Jonze won original Screenplay for the film. It was his response to Lost in Translation and one of my favorites of all time. Joaquin Phoenix is amazing in it.

Happy Hanukkah

0:59 Harry Nilsson has some advice... 1:22 Right there! Read the top line. 1:46 That Bill Murray, what an ass!

Darin Foat

So glad you guys watched this, and you liked it. I love this movie, and it has a lot of emotional connections for me to particular people in my life.

Brandon Meng

All solid recommendations but I think this is the first time I've seen Her recommended on a channel and I can't co-sign that enough. Fantastic movie.

Travis H

Since you covered this movie I really want you to do the Before trilogy (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight).

UnSafeStu

I really like movies like this, as it could very easily be a romantic comedy but it takes more into account the state we find the couple in when we meet them and goes from there, Same feeling I get when I watch Eternal Sunshine... Other films I like that give me a similar vibe to this, Garden State, About Time, 100 Days of Summer and Elizabethtown. Also I feel you when you have to specify if you like a movie or not. I'm really critical of movies so when I see a movie with my friends I have to explicitly say whenever on I enjoyed it.

Rob Church

They mentioned the Peaches song "F*** The Pain Away" was also in Jackass, but not just that it's in the scene where Spike Jonze is dressed as an old woman. Weird coincidence.

Kinokind

Interesting . . .it made me think of Eternal Sunshine, too. I suspect it's a subtle, non-simplistic, adult plot about real life. Life isn't simple either.

Kinokind

Second that. Anderson is lots of fun. I love "Moonrise Kingdom" (among others, of course!). Murray likes to work with him and he likes Murray.

Rob Church

I've been to a few hotpot places that offer plain water or at least salted water with Kombu. I thinks it's been explained to me that it's where it all started. I personally like it, not as much as the broths, but it really is just pure meat flavor.

Kron0n

The version I watched when he was with the Director had subtitles explaining like this deep framework for the shot and she's like look at camera. Shame you can't see the subtitles.

Nemo

I've wished for people to watch Her for a long time, I have sort of given up, but it is so well acted/written/directed, maybe Simone and George will give it a shot!

Rob Church

Dude I love Garden State. I know it gets shit on but I was 17 when it came out and that film but especially the soundtrack changed my life.

kanpai_rod

The Park Hyatt Tokyo where all the hotel scenes were filmed will undergo heavy renovation this year. The Bar on the 52nd Floor will be closed and also renovated, which is sad. It's a gorgeous bar with a fantastic view and you feel like you are in the movie when having a drink there. If you have the DVD/BluRay, the special features are interesting. I believe they got kicked out of the Shabu Shabu hot pot restaurant because the staff were growing impatient and needed to open. Also the overhead Shibuya crossing shots were filmed from inside a Starbucks and filmed without a permit. Also Scarlett Johansson was just 17 when she filmed this movie.

Emmet Farrell

My heart broke all over again watching this. I saw it in the cinema with her. And seeing it now, I held her hand like he did, and I held her like that the last time we parted.
