The last weekly polls winner was The Departed, which will be available this Saturday. Until then here are SOME of the films recommended by you guys. Remember, you can vote for multiple films!
Reminder: movies that don't win does not mean they will never be watched, it just means they will be watched later. Please be respectful to each others opinions, we're all just here to have fun and watch movies :)

BigGuy209

All right the pick has to be You've Got Mail

paul rai

You guys will be amazed at how many quotable lines there are in Jerry Maguire. One of the best movies of the 90s.

Jeremy Charlie

50 First Dates. Anything Adam Sandler actually "acts" in is good.

Bonny T

Here's hoping for Before Sunrise AND When Harry Met Sally! 🤞🏼🥰🤞🏼

8bitAquaDon

This poll feels like Simone has won some kind of bet. lol I love it!

Zhivko Yakimov

Just out of curiosity, why not include only movies that none of you have watched? Speaking of, I don't see "500 Days of Summer" on your channel, so maybe consider it as well? It is suitable for St Valentine's Day.

יוסי פורקוש

jerry is a must see, great movie! and Crazy Stupid for Steve Carell

redddfer44

The late 90s/early 00s me would be horrified to know that I restarted giving money to people on the internet because I wanted to weigh in on a romantic movie. Also, Pride and Prejudice. The 2005 is great, the 1995 miniseries even better.

pretzels4wetzel

No La La Land, Brokeback Mountain, Blue Valentine, Atonement, Past Lives, or Her…

John Rybock

I will say, not entirely surprised that the ones I want to see are "Only new to George"... "When Harry Met Sally" is an absolute classic. "Crazy, Stupid, Love" is great, but more a middle-aged re-examination than a RomCom, though it has both. "Jerry McGuire" is a romance, it can be argued, but very unique in how it does it.

Thijs D

George should watch youve got mail on drugs.. I want to see him cry during that cheese fest 😄

Jeff K

Damnit. I saw You’ve Got Mail and was like, “Now is the time!” And then I scrolled and saw When Harry Met Sally…

redddfer44

My votes: You've Got Mail, because Simone keeps talking about it. In the Mood for Love, because it's #5 on Sight & Sound and I haven't seen it yet. Before Sunrise, because those movies rule.

Thomaz Chagas

Some suggestions: - Almoust Famous (2000) - Big Fish

Jeff K

I'd throw Wedding Singer in there as his best romantic comedy, IMO

FaceMustache

I’ve only seen Crazy, Stupid Love out of those. It’s great.

PureGonzo

Since it’s looking like it won’t even come close to winning the poll, I just want to strongly recommend “Before Sunrise” to anyone that’s reading this (including George and Simone if they want something to watch on their own time). It was one of Richard Linklater’s first films, and is by all intents and purposes a masterpiece that stands entirely alone in what it was able to accomplish with such a simple concept. I would also recommend the sequel, “Before Sunset,” which is surprisingly just as good if not even better than its predecessor. The commentary on life, love, and spontaneity is unmatched.

beefjerkywizard

You Got Mail so George can gain some more Simone lore and Crazy Stupid Love for one of my favourite endings

Den Radar Ryan

'Single Awareness Day' movies? 😱 Nooooooooooo lol. I used to watch the horror (kinda comedy) movie 'Valentine' (2001) on Feb 14th lol 😉🫀

redddfer44

I'd say Sunset as well. The "When I was younger" bit is something I've quoted quite a lot in the last few years.

Jeff I.

Just throwing out a suggestion for High Fidelity in a future romantic comedy poll. One of the most well-written movies in that genre, IMO. John Cusack is the star, but Jack Black steals every scene he's in.

Guy-on-Couch

Hope Jerry Macguire wins since you both haven’t seen it yet

Happy Hanukkah

And on the topic of romantic movies with Julie Delpy, you can't do better than snuggle up with a loved one on Valentine's Day and watch La passion Béatrice (1987).* (* Please do not take this seriously.)

JoeySnowyNoey

Speaking of romance. I’d love for someone to react to The Big Sick, I can’t say it’d be popular but I love that movie to death. One of the best rom-coms ever made.

Den Radar Ryan

I saw 'You've Got Mail' in the theatre back in '98. I was working at a video store and studying film. Movie was a huge hit on video. I admit I still have it on DVD. 😱🍿📼📺

Dazzler & Em

Please, please, everyone vote for you've got mail. Watching George's reaction to this film would be amazing.

Jeff K

Such a great movie. Then again, I'm a big time Kumail stan. But hey, there's also a reason it got an Oscar nomination for its screenplay. It's just brilliant.

Maarten Martens

I hated almost every RomCom I watched, but You've Got Mail is a very wholesome movie. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are just too good to let a sugar sweet story keep them down. Only my opinion, I can fully understand why this genre is so popular, it's just not for me. I'm curious how George will take it.

Michael Buhl

I want to take this opportunity to recommend Harold and Maude.

RandomNevermind

Two Romantic comedies I want to recommend here: Girl Next Door (2004). It is underrated and funny comedy. It is simple a little clumsy but it has everything you would expect and slightly more deep than it seems at the first glance. Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). 100% classic. Brilliant film with stunning actor's performances. Solid story and the cat included. And also very controversial because of Mr. Yunioshi. Also I hope to see 'You've got Mail' win. Simone gonna like it.

Elder Lyons

how do you know they havent seen 500 days of summer? not on the site doesnt mean they havent seen it, if anything the opposite might be true. besides, if they really havent, George would hate that movie considering how much he dislikes the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope. even in the most recent AMA he talks about how much he dislikes them and why. and that movie is the peak of that character trope.

Elder Lyons

i mean, its 'A' romantic movie poll. not 'THE 'romantic movie poll... maybe those will be in the next one? or maybe, theyve seen those. or, even more likely, the ones on this poll have been recommended by more people for longer so they make appearances first.

Markus H

I would like to suggest 'Notting Hill' for future Romantic polls. It is just a good, funny and romantic movie (with Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant), that you can watch over and over again. Maybe it would be a movie that Simone hasn't seen yet?

Elder Lyons

lol cause he's seen 2 romantic movies? one of them is a Hong Kong film no less, something hes always said he grew up watching a lot of...

lovemoose

I haven't seen you've got mail so I would love to do a first time watch with george and simone all giddy lmao

Elder Lyons

also, as much as i enjoy la la land, not doing it is probably a wise move considering its a musical. and the YT cut will either get taken down immediately or just be entirely silent.

FrancescoTakesItEasy

Voted In the Mood for Love because I need an excuse to watch that. It just won't happen by itself. Also, love the Irish-fication of Maguire to McGuire ;)

Martin

When Harry Met Sally is the best movie on this list, but I voted Jerry Maguire because I think it will make for a better reaction.

China Andronicus

If you haven’t seen the Goodbye Girl, I highly recommend that one. Another great (if unusual) one is Harold and Maude.

Jeff K

Just curious if you've seen When Harry Met Sally? One of the reasons I think it stands out among the genre is because yeah, it's romantic, but it's also blisteringly funny and a lot sharper than a lot of others that lean more to the side of "romantic" than "comedy."

Jeff K

I think When Harry Met Sally is the best romantic comedy ever made (hot take, I know), but I won't be mad if Jerry wins, which looks to be the case. There's a reason it got nominated for Best Picture (and screenplay, and actor, and supporting actor, and should have had a nomination for Zellweger too). It's a great film.

Dechevalier

Why not Grosse Pointe Blank?

romulo ladeira

So sad that "in the mood for love" is the least voted. I spended all my live in the in Brasil in the midle of Amazonic region, never left my home town end yet the streets of Bangkok( i belive is where the movie was filmed) seem so painfully familiar. This movie made me remember what means to experience love as a human, so far from from the certainties of our idealizations but also capable of such a unpredictable beauty. This movie is a master piece hope you guys can react to it in the future.

theedgeinshow

Buckaroo Banzai is listed on IMDB as the "most romantic film of all time".

Tay Schumaker

A lot of good choices. In a sucker for a rom com. Would actually love to see you watch You’ve Got Mail since it seems like Simone has seen in a million times and would be fun to see

Nathan Swapp

I like how all these romantic movies are only new to George.

JayF

Simone, please put The Shop Around the Corner on one of these. It's the movie that You've Got Mail is a remake of and stars Jimmy Stewart.

ShoNuff3000

A. Comedy B. Romantic Raising Arizona? 😬

JayF

Also, I'd have gone with WHMS but Simone has already seen it.

Pam Nail

Went with Jerry Maquire because it's the only one new to both of you and because it seems like only a few reactors have done that movie. I'd also like to suggest: - As Good As It Gets - The Big Sick - Her

CD

YES! Go Jerry

sage765

Her (2013)

ShoNuff3000

Oh my God! Where is Moonstruck!? Oscars for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Original Screenplay.

Funny That

Great suggestion, not least since it does seem like George and Simone are fans of recent romantic movies. Plus there is a great cast, and given that it is nearly 90 years old there is the extra benefit of showing us all how the more things change & all that.

Nate Gavin

ok for february's valentine, how about miami vice? It's two brothers doing stuff together. In Miami. Let's do this.

Dwight Donaldson

You needed to watch all of these before Season 2 of Ted Lasso

Smooticus

For future consideration for a romantic movie, I recommend Paris, Texas. Ok, so it's a bit more of an anti-romance, but George would really, really like this movie and Simone would absolutely love it. guarantee it would be one of their top ten if not top five favorite movies

Funny That

They won't make it this time around, but some not already mentioned, but worth considering for the future? Adventureland The Apartment How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days Some Like it Hot

Roxolan

My usual (not on-theme) recs: - Brazil (1985, sci-fi dystopian dark comedy) - The Game (1997, mystery thriller) - Pleasantville (1998, earnest comedy-drama-scifi) - Hero (2002, colourful atmospheric wuxia) - Annihilation (2018, cosmic horror)

mky

I could go on and on with additional suggestions, but rather than that, here's a short list: Roman Holiday Casablanca Notting Hill Carol And I second "The Apartment" because I will always recommend "The Apartment" regardless of category. There are so many more...but I'll keep it brief.

JoeySnowyNoey

I love Kumail! And his wife Emily. They both seem really cool. I knew nothing about the movie when I first saw it and I legit had tears in my eyes at the end. The parent stuff broke my heart too because it reminded me of the tension I had with my own parents also being a son of immigrants.

Robert da Spruce

I voted for Jerry McGuire. Since neither of you have seen it

Rachel W

Let's get some true Classic rom coms that neither of you have seen! My suggestions from the AMA post..."Some Like it Hot"(1959), "Harold and Maude (1971), "Crossing Delancey"(1989), and "Moonstruck"(1987).

Rachel W

I just saw that again for the first time in years and it's so great!

Rachel W

OMG! YES! I'd forgotten all about The Goodbye Girl! Richard Dreyfuss won a Best Actor Oscar for his role. The dialogue is so great! Can't beat Neil Simon dialogue. And they would both love Harold and Maude.

Luis Torrefranca

Looking forward to this reaction, regardless of which wins.

Luis Torrefranca

I like the “Before…” trilogy. Before Sunset is my favorite of the three.

Adam K

As Good As It Gets and Moonstruck are two great shouts I’ll reiterate here

Garin

Guess I'm voting for the only movie neither of them have seen :)

China Andronicus

Such an amazing performance in that film, and the youngest best actor winner up until Adrian Brody for the Pianist. And I absolutely adore Harold and Maude. I actually have a tattoo from it. Enormously underrated film and Ruth Gordon was so talented.

mky

"Harold and Maude" falls into so many categories. Highly recommended.

Spacedone

Pleasantville does kinda fit the theme and is an excellent movie too.

mky

Lol. One of my favorite movies. Never gets old.

mky

I was wondering if anyone was going to mention "The Shop Around the Corner" in the context of "You've Got Mail". And now I don't have to wonder any more. :)

John

This is a good poll, for a future rom-com poll, I would recommend Love Jones, Love and Basketball, Patch of Blue (with Sidney Poitier) and Guess who's coming to Dinner (with Sidney Poitier, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy)

mojo shivers

You’ve Got Mail is good, just like Sleepless in Seattle, but for my money the best romantic comedy pairing Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is Joe Versus the Volcano. I love that movie. It also has the benefit of being the most existential comedy ever made. It always puts me in a philosophical mood after watching it.

darkmoobs

Not on the list, but would love to see you guys watch They Came Together. It is a parody/satire of Rom Coms starring Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd.

mky

Okay, a couple more just to get them mentioned for later... The Philadelphia Story His Girl Friday Cheers!

Funny That

Wouldn't have minded Moonstuck at all. Never seen, but may be its past time to just watch it.

Andy Raffle

Going the Distance (2010)

Raymond DeGraw

Always love your reactions. For Romantic/Valentines I would enjoy seeing you watch these. 1. Mannequin 2. My Best Friend's Wedding 3. 13 Going on 30 4. As Good As It Gets 5. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

DM DC

I don't watch romantic dramas for the most part. But a few I have seen I would recommend, Bed of Roses 1996, Untaimed Heart 1993 (highly recommend); and Head over Heals 2001 (romantic comedy).

Zinphad

The Apartment would also be another Oscar winner checked off.

Zinphad

Honestly think George would like JvV (Simone's already seen it).

Jomero

Simone will be very happy if You've Got Mail wins. I think we should make her happy.

Rachel W

I think of Jerry McGuire much more as a sports comedy film.

mojo shivers

I’ve been thinking it would be a good watch for the channel. It’s a very unique film in terms of its symbolism and themes. I could do a whole paper on its use of motifs. But more than that it’s just effing funny in all the right ways. “I know he can get the job but can he DO the job? I’m not arguing that with you.” Lol

Jeff Norwood-Brown

After watching 4 hours of AMA, it’s got to be “You’ve Got Mail” ; but “Crazy Stupid Love” is a cracking film. And I’m being good this time and not even mentioning Paul (even though it contains romance of sorts).

Athenor

Bit late for this poll but I'd like to suggest True Romance for a future poll

Joshua White

How do I go about making sure the Before trilogy gets its due? Or any Linklater, for that matter. SubUrbia, Waking Life, Boyhood, even that silly Orson Welles one that had me crushing on Claire Danes!

Hamesque

Hmm, the real question is which movie will make George the angriest.

Kangdarius

Not my type of genre but u can’t go wrong with Jerry McGuire. Too many quotables

Ph4ZeD

I voted for You've Got Mail so Simone can tell us all about it

mky

(I don't know where else to put this comment, so I'll put it here.) Even though "cinéma" is French in origin, sometimes for fun I like to pronounce "CineBinge" as: see-neh-BEEn-gay! Like an Italian festival or something. "Hey everybody, it's time for see-neh-BEEn-gay!" Anyway...

Curious

None of the above. Jerry Maguire and When Harry Met Sally are pretty good, but there are much better romantic movies: His Girl Friday, Annie Hall, The Philadelphia Story, An Officer and a Gentleman (as awkward as parts are), Bringing Up Baby, Roxanne, Moonstruck, What's Up Doc? As much as I love watching you guys watch good movies, you've been doing this long enough that you should start watching many of the excellent movies made before 1990. Yes, I know you've seen The Godfather, Airplane, Doctor Strangelove, etc. And if your emphasis on the recent didn't cause you to miss out on so much, I wouldn't mind. But we live in an era where film technique has never been more perfect and film substance has never been more uniform.

Lionbarber

One great 00's romcom that often gets overlooked is Return to Me. Pretty ridiculous premise, but still entertaining and tender AF

Who Are These People

Simone herself told George during the 'Godfather' reaction "You have *got* to watch 'You've Got Mail!'". Lock in in.

Who Are These People

Voters pick, man. You aren't going to get the best, you're going to get the most-watched. Look at this poll, 'Jerry MacGuire' winning as a "Valentines" movie? It's got nothing to do with romance. It's the Anti-Rocky. That right there tells you who is voting.

Maarten Martens

No I haven't seen it, I only know of "that" scene. I remember seeing Meg Ryan in City of Angels and I really enjoyed that one, so I know I very much like her. Thanks for the tip, whenever I'm in a situation where someone wants to view a RomCom type film, I'm confident this will be at least something I will tolerate, and who knows even like as much as You've Got Mail. I just need to go through that initial cringe and give it a fair chance. I appreciate the comment!

sol stapleton

True romance should have been on this.

Grandalf

Week 4 recommending these three great films from writers/ directors you guys both enjoy. 1:LEGENDS OF THE FALL, directed by Edward Zwick (Last Samurai). Stars Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins 2:THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS, directed by Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral). Stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeline Stowe. 3:TRUE ROMANCE, written by Quentin Tarantino, directed by Tony Scott (Man on Fire, Top Gun). Starring literally everyone , Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Gary Oldman (as a rastafarian pimp and drug dealer), Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Brad Pitt (as Floyd, the stoner on the couch), Val Kilmer (as imaginary Elvis), James Gandolfini, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Rapaport, Chris Penn, Tom Sizemore and Bronson Pincho.

Jonny

Watch arachnophobia!!!

Michael Chavira

With the exception of Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), there isn't a film on this list that was released in the past 20 YEARS. That's TWO WHOLE DECADES that have already passed since these films were created. I was born in '81 and even I have to come to terms with the realization that anything released in the '90s can no longer be referred to as "recent"

Drew Acheson

How is crazy stupid love not winning this? Also, how about About Time.

Joe Williams

It'll never win a poll but "In The Mood For Love" is one of the best films I've ever seen. Pure poetry.

Odd Thomas

Look, I love Tom Cruise but Jerry Maguire is a roaring piece of flaming garbage that represents all the worst aspects of 90s romcoms (and I LOVE the 90s, I was there, it was frickin' awesome). He's at his annoying couch-jumping era worst. A far more interesting Cruise/Crowe movie: Vanilla Sky.

Drew Acheson

You know, in the AMA Simone mentioned they watched Casablanca but it doesn’t come up in a search. Hopefully it’s a future release and not something that was forced to be pulled down.

Bryan Moriarty

I definitely think you should watch When Harry Met Sally, but I would wait until January of next year to do it. It's not technically a holiday film, but because it does have some pivotal scenes on New Year's Eve, it would make sense to watch it for that.

mky

I ordered some from a sketchy website, and they sent me a knock-off tube of "Beangay" instead. :P

mky

Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for it. I watched the AMA, but I must admit I dozed off briefly a couple of times. No car chases or explosions to wake me up. I had the same problem with "My Dinner with Andre". ;)

hurryupmode

I saw Jerry Maguire when it came out in theaters. Overall, I'd say it's a very shallow, surface level romance, but the best parts of the film are the non-romance parts, specifically Jonathan Lipnicki and Cuba Goofing Jr. That said, some VERY FAMOUS quotes come from this film, and tbh, they feel un-earned.

Happy Hanukkah

No objection from me, but an even more fitting Coen Brothers movie I'd love to see a reaction to would be Intolerable Cruelty (2003, starring George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones).

ThePVO

What’s amazing about When Harry Met Sally is baby boomers were openly warning us they were superficial, vapid, shallow, dangerously self involved, completely disconnected from the world that exists only to support their pursuit of infinite immediate, trivial, sensory, ego fulfillment. And everyone thought it was cute. And Barry Sonnenfeld’s cinematography rules.

Diiirk706

Eugh; why the Fk is this a thing...........sigh.............

Paulo_Maximus

Out of all of these, When Harry Met Sally is definitely my favorite by far. It’s just such a well written, relatable, and human story. It’s so funny too. Such a classic. Win or lose, I hope it gets a reaction someday, I’m certain George would appreciate its uniqueness compared to other romances, and if Simone’s already seen it, then she already knows what a fun movie it is. 😁

Lola Lirola

I wouldn't even consider this a romcom? It's a sports movie, just with a (bad) love interest subplot. The sports parts are much more interesting! Also, I'm kinda laughing that on the one time they do a poll with romcoms, the one winning so far... is the one about a dude 🤣

sarCC

Casablanca. His Girl Friday. The Lady Eve. Grosse Pointe Blank. Once. Run Lola Run. Out Of Sight. Your Name.

REDR58

Since nearly everything on this list is only new to one or the other of you, I will make some suggestions for another time that are hopefully new to both: "The Remains of the Day" (1993) a perhaps somewhat surprising or unexpected romance story, with Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. "The Fisher King" (1991) with Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams. A romantic movie to be sure. "Casablanca" (1942) with Humphrey Bogart Ingrid Bergman. A classic romance movie you should definitely see. "Dog Day Afternoon" (1975) with Al Pacino and John Cazale ("Fredo" from the Godfather movies), a most unconventional romance/heist movie. "Portrait of a Lady on Fire" ("Portrait de la jeune fille en feu") (2019) with Noémie Merlant and Adèle Haenel. Historical romance film. "Sense and Sensibility" (1995) with Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman and Kate Winslet. I bet you'd never except to see Rickman in a romantic movie! But he's great here. Finally, "Dead Poets Society" (1989) with Robin Williams. Not a romance, but well worth viewing.

Dwight Donaldson

And avoids almost ALL the standard rom-com cliches. For those who've seen the movie, I highly recommend the analysis on YT by Lessons from the Screenplay.

Lola Lirola

Here to second His Girl Friday (although they talk so incredibly fast, they're going to have a hard time getting a reaction in edgewise) and What's Up Doc, which is truly hilarious and still holds up great!

Lola Lirola

Oh, and a double feature of Bringing Up Baby and Who's That Girl, the bonkers Madonna remake!

REDR58

I tend to agree they should generally stick to movies that neither of them have seen because it makes for a much better reaction.

REDR58

It's a perfect miniseires that lets the characters and story have room but is also not overlong.

Lola Lirola

My Best Friend's Wedding is really good! A great antihero romcom, and I think it's somewhat falling behind in our collective memory and should be watched more!

Lola Lirola

Harold and Maude and Some Like it Hot are incredible. Truly 'best of all time' worthy even to this day.

michael clarke

i want to see simone show you her favorite movie. some suggestions though: rhymes for young ghouls killers of the flower moon once were warriors

Cinebinge

Hi Survo701, while we understand not every poll genre will be a perfect fit for everyones individual taste, we do ask all patrons to keep at least the minimal respect for other peoples preferences- and to also remember that there is a new poll each week, in addition to the fact that we do 3 movies a week and the poll only determines 1 of the films. that being said, if there are films you would like to suggest we are happy to add them to the backlog. thank you.

Who Are These People

Yeah, that's the problem with the reactor concept; they have to rely on their viewers to be discerning about the quality and suitability of their suggestions. I suggested to George a long time ago that he have a trusted friend sort out their movie recommendations for them, like Chris S. for example, but I suppose it'd be too much work to put upon someone. It's a shame that their viewing experience is being steered this way, but a blessing I suppose that 1) they're well-supported by the subscriptions and 2) they're blissfully unaware of the gold they're missing.

Happy Hanukkah

And there's A Scanner Darkly (2006), which has been on my bucket list since... it came out.

Who Are These People

'Bringing Up Baby' is all this poll needs to be, just the one option, maybe 'Casablanca' for the illusion of choice. I'd toss in a new contender for both Rom-Com and their 'oldest movie yet' with 'Top Hat' (1935). Has any other movie ever ended with such a romantic dance number?

Happy Hanukkah

:-) Notting Hill has been mentioned in the comments. It's a good movie and I enjoyed it, but that scene at the end... annoys me.

Elder Lyons

how do you know Jerry Maguire isnt recommended by their friends and you just dont agree with the opinion? which is valid, but having a friend recommend vs having paying customers is still the same. its just peoples opinions that inevitably someone else will disagree with.

Elder Lyons

and Lola, its winning cause its the one that neither of them have seen. but also, like every week they do the 2nd place film anyways. in which case, its either gonna be youve got mail or crazy stupid love by the look of things.

iamjustin

Away We Go can land on one of these lists one day and I’d be down.

David S

"Punch Drunk Love" absolutely positively 100 percent needs to be on this list. From the Director of Boogie Nights and staring Adam Sandler in his best (IMHO) performance. Just do it... (please)

michael clarke

i want to see simone show george youve got mail. she says she watches it almost daily and sometimes more than once. you dont see any value in that experience? i like discovery, but i also like people sharing their passions.

Jeff K

I didn't see that part of the AMA, but that would track that it's coming. Wonder if they're saving it for February/Valentine's Day. I love Casablanca so damn much. It gets my vote for greatest movie ever, and minimally, I think it's got the greatest dialogue ever. They should also absolutely watch it BEFORE they watch When Harry Met Sally since Casablanca's ending gets spoiled in WHMS.

michael clarke

lol. ive been thinking about you because in the Q&A video george didnt recognize your reference. maybe make it more clear that you are the suggesting the film? im pretty sure he just adds a tick for every time he sees it suggested and it doesnt matter if its always from the same person. i havent seen the movie myself, but ive heard some people really passionate about it, so i understand your effort.

Kyle Style

Crazy Stupid Love is soooo good, one of my favs, has everything. Please watch it!!

G P

As usual, recommending Barry Lyndon and Amadeus

Ethan Holgate

Well I think Jerry Maguire is already the winner lol great movie one of Tom Cruises best

Travis H

Was NOT expecting George to be the one who has seen Before Sunrise! I assumed neither of them heard of it (outside of from us). For RomComs I have to recommend Wall-E! It would be a perfect movie for both of them. It’s a well thought out Sci-Fi movie for George, and it’s a great love story for Simone (and Simone mentioned in the q&a that she likes My Fair Lady IYKYK). WALL·E has the potential to be one of their favorite films!

mky

Simone and George have actually seen a couple of tiny bits of "The Goodbye Girl". It's the movie playing at Tommy's settlement in episode six of "The Last of Us". So it's only natural that it becomes a future CineBinge movie. And "Harold and Maude" is one-of-a-kind and should required viewing. :)

CD

All the Pauline Kael wannabes are out for this one, lol. It’s RomCom peoples. Sappy, fun, goofy…saccharin sweet; all good. Sure…I would have voted WHMS easy, if Simone hadn’t already seen it (while that’s not the biggest deal-breaker for some teams; sorry G&S…you don’t have great poker-faces). It cracks me up…people going “this is garbage; watch x…”. X being a film, EYE think is trash…lol.

Brandon Meng

Absolutely essential for this genre and a future poll like this: Love Actually About Time Midnight in Paris Forgetting Sarah Marshall Silver Linings Playbook 500 Days of Summer The Wedding Singer Punch Drunk Love Moonstruck While You Were Sleeping Notting Hill Love each of these movies. These are my go-tos when I'm feeling amorous.

Jacob King

Ended up voting for everything except Jerry Maguire. Just not my kind of movie, and Almost Famous is right there.

Lola Lirola

Pauline Kael wannabes? It's so interesting how irritated men get when women have strong opinions.

Phalanx

Probably too late for this, and not sure if anyone behind the scenes will see it, but Norman Jewison, a fairly well known and respected Canadian director passed away today. Given that in the recent AMA you guys mentioned that you weren't super familiar with Canadian filmmakers, and one of his best known/loved films was Moonstruck, a rom-com, it may be a good opportunity to squeeze that one in. He did a number of other well known and respected films, but that one is on-topic, at least.

Shonnicus

George has watched Before Sunrise!?! I do love the movie and trilogy. Also George watch "In Mood for Love" Dang George! Hey its the polls I will live with it but maybe one day we at least get In Mood for Love and Before Sunrie, trilogy would be nice.

Shonnicus

Great taste! Barry Lyndon might be one of the most beautiful films ever shot. Amadeus is so up there as all time favorite.

Shonnicus

We must champion a poll that "Chinese foreign films that start with In the Mood..." as a poll. I think it might have a chance. Actually I would go for Tony Leung poll or Wong Kar-wai poll.

Joe Williams

I agree! Ideally, I'd like a poll filled with arthouse films only I enjoy, but that might be asking too much😂

Joe Williams

Could be the film that finally brings patrons together. An arthouse PT Anderson film starring Adam Sandler!

mky

Lol. The lighthearted romp that is "Atonement".

CD

I’m not going to engage in CineBeef Lola; but that’s not at all what I meant. I love PK; just that’s she’s well known, for her high-brow tastes. It’s not a gender thing. Rex Reed then…lol. I’m not sure I understand your comment: it’s the one about a dude? Yes…there’s a dude; and a gal. Isn’t that the majority of the romance parts, of RomCom? WoW; I guess nothing brings out SJWs, like love. Yikes!

Paul G

If and when they watch You've Got Mail on the channel I think we need to all agree to having nothing but super positive comments for it because I'm pretty sure Simone loves that movie more than oxygen and will probably kill her if we say we don't like it! Just to be clear, I love the movie, I own the Bluray!

LighthouseGuy

I am shocked at the results of this poll.

Ryan Kitade

You should definitely watch You’ve Got Mail before you watch Ted Lasso Season 3…. There are more than a couple of nods and references that upped my enjoyment because of them 😉

Nikodem

I'm not a fan of romantic movies. But there is one that is actually great because it plays with romantic movie tropes without being to cliche but still remains romantic: 500 days of summer 👍

MotoDork

Jerry McGuire over When Harry Met Sally?

LighthouseGuy

Not a huge fan, don’t want to write any specifics but I guess Im the minority anyway so a lot of people must like it.

Ben

I am once again asking for your consideration for the following films; ⦁ 'North by Northwest' (1959) ⦁ 'Labyrinth' (1986) ⦁ 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' (1988) ⦁ 'Dead Poets Society' (1989) ⦁ 'Parenthood' (1989) ⦁ 'Toy Story' (1995) ⦁ 'One Hour Photo' (2002) ⦁ 'Little Miss Sunshine' (2006)

SnabbKassa

I mean Some Like It Hot is tangentially "Valentines"...

ShoNuff3000

Future movie polls: 1. Weird/strange movies 2. Black and White movies 3. Award winning short films.

Young Blood Priest

I’ll watch any of the movies on this poll. Lots of good choices. I think Boomerang with Eddie Murphy and Halle Barry would be a good addition for the next romcom poll.

Young Blood Priest

Out of Sight is so slept on. So slept on that I don’t know very many people that have seen it and it’s a damn shame.

REDR58

Don’t Forget “In the Heat of the Night” (1967) which he also directed. A must-watch.

Renee MeowMeow Beans

I watched In the Mood for Love for the first time in December - after meaning to for YEARS. IT. IS. AMAZING. Sooooool exquisite on every level. I don't know if I've ever seen two more beautiful people in a more beautiful film. I tear up just thinking about it! 😆

Dakota

I'm going to recommend my favorite buddy cop movie, Running Scared. Stars Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines. So good and underrated.

Dwight Scarn

I highly reccomend watching INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE TV show on AMC its only 7 episodes. But it's so good!! It has romance, drama, suspense & horror. The performances of the actors are amazing.

Lola Lirola

Plus two for Labyrinth. That movie made me discover David Bowie as a tween, and it's a blast

Lola Lirola

Holy shit, such a great list. Portrait of a Lady on Fire is absolutely incredible, it fully wrecked me. And omg, The Fisher King! I adored that movie and saw it several times in the theater back when! I just had such a Proust moment, it's such a forgotten movie and it shouldn't be.

Dwight Scarn

If you consider please do a YouTube reaction like ya did with house of the dragons, not a patreon exclusive. Either way thanks for reading!

Lola Lirola

Also seconding, in case it weights for the recommendations, Dead Poets Society, which has so many great actors doing their best work; and Dog Day Afternoon, such an unexpected sweet thing.

Lola Lirola

I'm not at all bothered, and certainly not going to beef! Trust me, my tastes are not high-brow at all! You can see my recommendations in other posts. But I do have a female perspective (since I am one, it's kind of inevitable, apparently that makes me an SJW), and I notice that the overwhelming majority of movies, everywhere in general but also noticeable here, center the concerns of men, their wants, their stories, their perspective of the world. And I care that 50% of the world gets so casually neglected. The romcom genre is one of the very very few that is usually allowed to have a woman as the default protagonist instead, and follow her concerns, so it really made me laugh a bit that *even in the romcom genre* the most voted for perspective was ...the one about a man! (Because sure, there is a woman in it, but this is not at all *her* story, just like Cinderella is not the Prince's story, even if he does have things of his own to do in it). It's not the end of the world, it just made me laugh ...and despair a bit, not gonna lie, but it's fine, I enjoy this place!

Daniel H.

Speaking of love stories that are part of a fantastic larger narrative, it'd be awesome if you could react to Gattaca. Only a few channels have done it, but it's a great somewhat indie movie from the late 90s.

Johen Kay

Watch Brightburn.

Jacob King

In The Mood For Love is also part of a trilogy, with Days of Being Wild and 2046. 2046 is also kind of a SF.

MPH

You're all terrible people for not voting for You Got Mail. Sorry, Simone. The fans don't care about you. Shame on all of you!!!

nate coleman

I know it's not on this or probably any list, but As Good As It Gets with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt is priceless. It won't get voted for because most people haven't seen it. But Nicholson and Hunt won the Oscars for Best Actor and Best Actress, and it was nominated for 5 more. Jack Nicholson says something T-shirt worthy every 30 seconds.

Jonathan Wyman

Jerry Maguire because it is so often quoted, because it one if the few Tom Cruise movies that are tolerable, and because the process works better when both of you haven't seen the movie.

AstralCars

Past Lives (2023) please 🙏

FranciscoGios

I’m I the only one here that thinks The Chronicles of Riddick is a romantic movie yes? Oh well 😁

schnoobs

show me the money

Steve kephart

Here are my two favorite "rom-coms" that are both better than the choices on this list; About Time and Definitely Maybe.

Michael Kemmet

Adding another vote for The Shop Around the Corner if they end up doing You've Got Mail at some point.

Lorkein

My suggestion here would have been "Somewhere in time", but I'm not sure it could have won...

jmundt33a

About Time and Definitely Maybe are good. While You Were Sleeping. Valentine’s Day and Sleepless in Seattle.

Charles Clover

I'd rep Mannequin if for no other reasons than the antagonist possessing a positive portrayal of Hollywood.

Who Are These People

Would be great, would never, ever win. Simone, if you've never watched 'Somewhere in Time', just do it. Don't wait for it to make it to the channel.

Justin James

Crazy, Stupid, Love is such a fun one!!

REDR58

I have not seen The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) yet, but having read the book, I wish someone would make a miniseries about it.

Zinphad

Realized too late that I should have been pushing for Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid before Ted Lasso Season 3 (there's an extended reference in one episode).

Beddoe

In the U.S. next Friday (Feb. 2) is 'Working Naked Day'. It's for those of us who work from home. Just curious if Canadians celebrate U.S. holidays. Also +1 for 'Somewhere In Time' at some point.

GBmain

So glad Jerry Maguire is winning... I'm not a romance fan but it's also a sports movie and I loved it as a kid... Although I've watched stuff as an adult and found myself cringe at my cinema tastes in my adolescence, will be interesting to rewatch.

GBmain

Help me👆, Help you 🫵 HELP ME!👆, HELP YOUuuu... 🫵 🙏

Kelly Pickard

Recommendations for future lists: - Amadeus - Margin Call - Hook - The Birdcage - The Adventures of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert - Labyrinth

Mr. Writhms

"Bram Stoker's Dracula" is a love story. Unconventional? Yes. But a love story just the same. Just a suggestion. ;)

sarCC

I'd argue it's more of a love story than it is a Dracula adaptation.

JJ Hennessey

Agreed, it's one of my favorite all time movies and getting the sequels to work how they did is amazing. I'm hopeful it will win someday, but reaction wise I can see how others would have more flash.

Drew Acheson

I'd also like to add Stranger Than Fiction to the list.

Chase Schleich

I feel so bad for Simone. George finally puts You've Got Mail on a poll and it has no chance lol. One day Simone.... one day.

Markus H

I'm pretty sure they are going to watch it. It is in second place now and George said in the AMA video that nowadays they pretty much always watch the second place movie also.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

It was on a Horror movies poll a while back which was hilarious but yeah it’s overdue for an introductory watch lol

jmundt33a

I can’t believe CSL is neck and neck with You’ve Got Mail. *groans* CSL is one third or maybe one sixth crackling romcom. But the rest crush it. Turning Cal into a wolf (or even half a wolf) is a mistake and burns a lot of what the rest of the film is building. And both halves of the…caregiver subplot are REALLY…yeesh. And also, what a criminal waste of Marisa Tomeii. But this is the film that made audiences sure that Gosling and Stone would be fantastic leads in the right romantic film. But it’s been over a decade now. And it NEVER happened.😤😤😤😤😤😤🙄🙄🙄🙄

8bitAquaDon

A rom com about american football... someone get George a giant avocado to hide behind! lol Seriously tho, I'm looking forward to this reaction. Such a quotable/memeable movie.

Elder Lyons

Chase you've been here longer than I have and I've been subbed for close to a year. how is it that you STILL dont grasp they always watch the 2nd place in every poll and its uploaded the subsequent week?

Renee MeowMeow Beans

If it doesn't win, you should bite the bullet and watch - I procrastinated for ages (cause I thought it would be a "homework" movie) and I wish I had watched it earlier. It's just so beautiful. 🙂

Renee MeowMeow Beans

100 % agree, it's just sublime - I was entranced the entire film. Never ONCE looked at my phone like the easily distracted wombat that I am. 😆

FrancescoTakesItEasy

I have no doubt it is great. Thing is, I'm more of a genre fan and have trouble connecting to dramas that are just about human struggles or interpersonal relationships. I wrote In the Mood for Love on my whiteboard like, 3 years ago, after my movie-watching buddy pushed it hard, and every time I'm thinking about watching it I instead fall back on some 80s or 90s horror, or action, or sci-fi. It's complicated, is what I'm trying to say ^^ Btw, your user name scores you 5 beans!

Renee MeowMeow Beans

Haven't yet Got Barry Lyndon off my watchlist, but I LOVE Amadeus. Just gorgeous and heartbreaking. Talk about a real movie! And Elizabeth Berridge as Constanze is just exquisite, so charming and funny and gorgeous.

Renee MeowMeow Beans

+1 for Amadeus, Margin Call, The Birdcage, Adventures of Priscilla, and Labyrinth (Sorry Hook isn't my flavor, but I get why people love it. Probably Bob Hoskins, right? 😁)

Happy Hanukkah

:-) It's Dracula. No, really, it's Dracula. Yes, as in Bram Stoker. Yes, honest! Look, it's right there in the title: "Bram Stoker's Dracula"! :-)

Renee MeowMeow Beans

A movie that I think both Simone and George would like is The Talented Mr. Ripley - again, the cast is full of beautiful people at the height of their beautifulness.😁 It is fascinating, and brilliantly made, and the performances are off the charts. And it is so so fun to watch!

Renee MeowMeow Beans

😆Thanks! That's the most beans!! I totally get it - I did the same thing, because I also prefer genre movies - you know, for fun. Keep taking' it easy, Francesco!

jmundt33a

That’s right. It never happened. The buried snippets we got had far more potential than the whole of La La Land and its miserable, infuriating gut punch of an ending.

jmundt33a

Yes. Stranger Than Fiction. Will Ferrell’s absolute best. Like Wedding Singer is Sandler’s.

Jay Davis

I think I've said before, George should have to watch You've Got Mail... but then Simone must watch Hitchhiker's. No Poll!

Jeff K

And that's why you had to be let go from your job as a mail carrier.

ExtraBigAssTaco

I don't know why I thought of this while watching Casablanca, but have you seen A Million Ways to Die in the West? That is a prime candidate for reaction content...

Ludovic Ligot

So you'll watch "You've Got Mail" in two weeks max ? Can't wait to see that one ! 😅

China Andronicus

I still haven’t gotten to the Last of Us and I really need to. 😭 I love knowing they used GG in there!

HeyHeyJK

Even though the poll is closed, I'm always going to write-in vote for "Punch-Drunk Love" with Adam Sandler and Emily Watson. One of my top ten favorite films of all time and the first great performance by Sandler that wasn't his goofy comedy schtick. It lives in its own wonderful, weird universe and is such a great film, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and also featuring a great supporting performance by the late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Liquor & Swords

O dear lord, please include "CB4" in the next comedy poll!

Florian Geyer

Awsome relationship movie I like to recommend, Marriage Story

Greg Beach

I know I am way too late for this but can you at some point react to Stardust. I think you with both find it hilarious.

Ted K. had a point

Come on, you need to show Simone Before Sunrise... best romantic movie ever made

Dirge Girl

John Cusack offbeat romantic comedies: Grosse Pointe Blank (1997) High Fidelity (2000) Better Off Dead (1985)
