They made Night crawler look so badass in the opening sequence and the rest of the movie not so much lol but my favorite out of the original three 😁

Marko T.

I like this movie more. Bryan Singer decided not to direct the third movie and he made Superman Returns for DC.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

Still one of the coolest openings to a comic book adaptation. It’s also an excellent sequel in terms of character and world development. The audience knew it was upping the ante when Wolverine straight up stabs the dude in the kitchen when the school is raided in a far more visceral way than any action scenes in the first film

JayF

The drug made him more ruthless. I think him saving Rogue in the plane scene was equally badass and is more in tune with his personality.

JayF

The beginning sequence of this movie is only surpassed by one scene in the franchise IMO (TiaB is a clue for those that have seen it). Please no spoilers.

Michael Robayo

This movie was released as X2: X-Men United.

Kevin Knadle

Some of the movies have post credits scenes. One of them ( I can't remember which) is very, VERY, important. If you miss it you will be confused in a later movie.

Odd Thomas

The best film of the original trilogy. The Last Stand (3) isn't THAT bad, but it is the weakest. It does still have one amazing scene though.

Barry G

The Last Stand isn't good but yeah it gets too much hate. Part of the reason is the director is a dbag.

Barry G

STRONGLY recommend watching The Wolverine if you haven't seen it. It's directed by James Mangold and this side of Logan is the best on screen usage of Wolverine. Movie is very cool.

Tay Schumaker

So the “bamf” you know from Critical Role is because of Nightcrawler. Thats what they wrote in the comics to represent his teleportation powers.

Tay Schumaker

I’ve seen all of the XMen films and have no idea what this is referring to. What movie?

Odd Thomas

Marketing execs: "How about we give it a short, snappy title like X2?" Literally everyone: "X-Men 2 is pretty short already so we're just gonna call it X-Men 2 mkay"

Jihad Lee

Yes Mystique and Nightcrawler are Mother and Son. That’s why they have that little interaction, it was a little Easter egg for comic book fans. Movie wise they aren’t, but comic book wise they are

JayF

So there was a point in the comics where Colossus lost his ability to switch back to human form. I can't remember the reason for it because it has been decades since it happened. I have no idea if he ever regained the ability to do so. Also, this version doesn't have a Russian accent. So the Deadpool version is much closer to canon than this one.

JediLounger

So X3: The Last Stand is a step down from this movie, but the events in that movie serve as a lynchpin for Logan’s actions later on, so don’t skip it. It’s also still pretty fun, it just does not stand well on its own like the first two do. But given that you guys posted this video 11 days ago, you have probably already watched it. If that is the case I am glad you are watching them all. They have their ups and downs but when viewed as a whole it’s a better experience with all of them than just some. Edit: Replying to comments like the one who posted a reply to me is exhausting, which is why I don’t bother. Not worth my time.

sarCC

I totally agree, dieselbeast. First Class is a way better X-Men movie than the first 3, but the only ones of this franchise I think are great are Logan and the Deadpool-s.

Tay Schumaker

The guard is wearing Velcro pants because he can’t have any metal, like a zipper. They weren’t making fun of him for having Velcro pants

BoredLittleLady

This is the best movie in the series. I'm so happy you guys are watching them.

jmundt33a

Emphatically no. It is not fun. It’s being dragged across concrete. Read a summary and spare yourselves. The Dark Phoenix arc appears unfilmable.

darkmoobs

Came here to say this. It really tickled me that she said it with no connection to Nightcrawler.

Daniel Popp

In the comics, they've talked about drowning being one of the few possible ways to kill Wolverine. He supposedly killed his son Dakken, who had similar healing abilities, by drowning him. The only thing is, you have to keep them submerged. The woman Wolverine fought is definitely dead. Body filled to the brim with adamantium, left submerged in a water tank that's later flooded, she is for sure dead.

darkmoobs

Oh man, that new Mystique/Nightcrawler reveal in the comics was wild.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

Nightcrawler is Mystique's child in the comics(also Rogue's mom), originally his dad was Azazel(mutant/demon) but they are changing things currently

DM DC

here in the states Amazon Prime still has it as X2. This is my favorite of the X-Men franchise. The 3rd movie however probably has one of my favorite casting choices along with Hugh Jackman, Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart. You may know what I mean when you see it but if not I will say when you see it.

Who Are These People

I haven't watched the reaction yet but I can hear George (who is *the worst*) demanding we explain to him why or why not they should watch X3. FINE GEORGE. I'm not normally one to express myself so much but here's a comment I left in another reactor's Patreon when they did X2 just a couple of weeks ago: Regarding X3: The Last Stand. It is a travesty of character mutilation. I highly recommend you do *not* watch it, it is not consistent with the canon nor does it respect the characters. After X2, (strikethrough)the studio fired Bryan Singer(/strikethrough) *Corrected thanks to Marko's comment below* Singer left to work on Superman, but it was Singer who clearly understood and respected the source material deeply and put X-Men movies on the map, so they hired Brett Ratner, a music video director whose film career tanked after he directed 'X3: The Last Stand' into the ground and has gone back to doing music videos for Mariah Carey and Miley Cyrus, with a few small movie projects like the infamously terrible 'Movie 43' to really seal his career coffin. He drags a weak story onto the screen and treats the characters with a complete lack of respect and comprehension. I found it insulting in its clumsiness, clearly a movie to try to squeeze a few more bucks from the franchise that the studios had given up on. Please, for the peace of my soul, skip it. Go to 'X-Men: First Class' next and continue in chronological release order. It'll be fine. You won't miss a thing; in fact, you'll save time by skipping the trash. Think of it as picking the gristle out of the steak before eating it. Bryan Singer returns as writer for 'First Class' and it really shows (86% fresh on rottentomatoes vs X3's 57%). He also picks up the Stewart-Xavier timeline in 'Days of Future Past', another heartfelt homage to a classic X-Men comic storyline that gave my 10-year old self goosebumps when I got those comics in the mail back in 1981. He also uses the opportunity to unwrite the shit Ratner put on screen, so X3 would be like it never happened, which is as it should've been.

Travis

I don’t remember if you ever commented on this or not. I know George mentioned once knowing that it was a parallel to the civil rights movement. I don’t remember if he mentioned the Xavier is supposed to be MLK jr and Magneto is supposed to be Malcolm X (ironically). So thats kind of the anti hero vibe of Erik. He wants the same thing but he wants it through force rather than cooperation.

Michael Green

X2 was my favorite superhero movie for years: just a well made, expertly crafted movie. The third one is . . . fine? The least of the original films, for sure, but a decent enough popcorn actioner with flashes of heart (largely provided by the wonderfully talented cast shining past Ratner's somewhat wooden direction).

John W Foster

Actually Chris Claremont stated multiple times that originally Mystique was supposed to be his father and Destiny was supposed to be his mother. Obviously this would have been kind of controversial at the time. In the 90s a writer (Chuck Austen) revealed that his father was Azrael. Recently, a writer just switched it back to what it was always intended to be. Since Azazel was created by Chuck Austen (and I believe every other part of that run has since been retconned out of continuity), it feels non-controversial to me to retcon the last remaining part of that story

John W Foster

This has actually happened several times in the comics - you're probably thinking of the after-effects of the Mutant Massacre storyline. The guy who plays Colossus in the Deadpool movies is great - I hope Marvel continues him into their X-Men movies.

Marko T.

You need to watch the third movie so you get to X-Men First Class and Days of Future Past.

JediLounger

George has seen the movie dude. And he asked at the end that no one post spoilers for the next movie, which you did plus several others by inference and alluding to story aspects later in the franchise. Good job.

Marko T.

Bryan Singer didn't get fired. He left so he could direct Superman Returns.

ChickensAreRacist

These movies do such a great job with the clear analogy it’s making thru mutants and how they’re treated and poked into reacting harshly enough to ‘justify’ people wanting them gone.

Tomas Gaspar

allthough this still is the best X-Men Movie I am still a bit put off by the depiction of Colossus. He was for a long time my personal favorite X-Men.

Who Are These People

@Jedilounger I referenced two movie titles and what "story elements" exactly? Be attentive to detail and be specific so we can all be clear that you are able to read with comprehension. If you're clear-minded you'll notice I didn't describe any part of any story. Remember, George and Simone have watched 'Deadpool', so they already know that two actors performed Professor X and so would already have "spoiled" the cast change at some point in the series. Sloppy job, lounger.

Who Are These People

X3 does nothing for the canon or continuity of the story and you know this. Why do you pretend it's part of the story arc? It should never have been made, it only goes in the wrong direction and it required retroactive continuity correction later on.

Marko T.

I don't want to post any spoilers and I hope you don't either but its important to The Wolverine.

JediLounger

I’m clear headed enough to know flame/argument bait when I see it. What a joke. Sloppy job to you, bro. Peace.

Hans Olav Sletnes

Agreed. I think X3 is hated primarily by fans of the comics who feel it did some of the characters (and the dark phoenix storyline) dirty. Taken in isolation, I think it's an entertaining romp, with the best action setpieces in the series.

Who Are These People

Since Simone immediately recognized Alan Cummings I'll copy-paste a comment I made on that other X2 reaction that might be interesting to her given her interest in cinema: "I'm a pretty alert movie buff and even I didn't notice Alan Cumming was Kurt until this viewing, and I saw both Goldeneye and X2 in theaters when they were released! I always feel like he doesn't quite fit into the movie because he's such a *good* actor he's almost acting in his own story aside from the one in the movie. Like the way he introduces himself to Cyclop's "who's this?" with "I am Kurt Wagner, but in the Munich Circus I was-" and gets interrupted, then looks deflated that he couldn't finish his intro. He wasn't even the center of the shot and I remember his expression at that moment better than whoever the cute fella was that was Cyclops, you know, the one with no on-screen chemistry with Famke. Alan was also in 'The Tempest' (2010), about as good an adaptation of that Shakespeare play as can be made and directed by Julie Taymor, a former colleague of Ricardo Hernandez who himself worked with -guess who- Patrick Stewart in a 1995 Broadway production of 'The Tempest'!"

Nate Terry

An entire lake, pushed back by a dam (so not just the force of the weight of the lake, but added force from the dam keeping it up), Iceman would had to have created a wall of ice thick and as strong as the anchored concrete in the ground in the span of a a few minutes max and a few secs minimum....likely not possible to do in that time. wolverine regenerating from a single drop of blood....many ppl don't realize where blood comes from...it comes from bone marrow. Wolverine has an adamantium skeleton(an indestructible skeleton). also...healing requires energy and matter. a single drop of blood doesn't satisfy this requirement, therefore, he cannot regenerate without a writer forgoing biology and physics. another note, a drop of blood is NOT alive. biology has a set of characteristics of life and blood doesn't satisfy all of the set, some but not all. If I cut my arm off my body, the arm isn't life. you body is a life so long as it can maintain homeostasis. the severed arm cannot do that. you could kill wolverine by removing his head, but with the adamantium, that is practically impossible. drowning is possible as a death. remove oxygen to the brain and the brain dies. Wolverine's healing isn't magical, it's biological.(fictional yes, but rooted in biological mechanics).

Crew Glove

I may be wrong but Mystique was originally Nightcrawler's mother.

Callum Cowan

I honestly thought this was a joke at first but when I realised you seriously have a problem with George it made me really pity you.

Wrencher86

Forgoing biology and physics is kind of the core principle of super hero comics.

Poddington

My nightmare is anytime I'm awake.

Who Are These People

@Callum You know how I know you don't watch Cinebinge's reactions to Breaking Bad? At the start of Breaking Bad Season 3 Ep 10, 11, George explained that he gets an email notification every time a comment is posted on Patreon, and one of the patron posts from their previous Breaking Bad (Season 3 Ep 8 and 9) was about the show 'You are the Worst', so he got a few email notifications starting off saying 'You are the worst...' and he panicked about it thinking it was about him. So my comment was a reference to his misunderstanding. And this comment is my response to your misunderstanding. I like George, in fact, he and I think in a similarly analytical way and I love it when he questions plotholes. If you had read my comment with comprehension you'd be able to discern that it is actually Brett Ratner that is the worst.

Tay Schumaker

I watch the breaking bad reactions and don’t pick up on that. Just thought you were being a dick

djKENTO

Logan in the opening is wearing a wig. It’s a reshoot done about a month before the film’s release. He was already deep into shooting Van Helsing so he’s actually extensions in for that movie and then he’s got a big wig ontop of it which is why it looks so weird and puffy compared to the rest of the film.

djKENTO

also in X-Men First Class you’ll see how Xavier distinguishes mutants… and no it’s not power based.

djKENTO

Yes that is Colossus but this franchise honestly has TERRIBLE continuity. Even when they try to fix it, they fuck it up more. But that’s just part of it. You gotta go “oh i guess it’s different” and move on. Hell Deadpool 2 takes place during the original trilogy era but they have the prequel cast show up. They really just don’t care about continuity in Deadpool. In fact Deadpool 3 gets even weirder from what we’ve seen.

djKENTO

I’ve seen this movie essentially every year since it came out… sometimes more than once… It took me ALL THIS FUCKING TIME to realize he has velcro pants BECAUSE HE’S A GUARD FOR MAGNETO! Can’t have a metal zipper. Literally 20+ years and I just got it.

Michael Kemmet

I have no idea if the appearance of tieflings was inspired at all by Nightcrawler, but the timeline was Nightcrawler in 1975 and tieflings in 1994.

Poddington

For Simone. I know you like Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, but she also plays Una in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. As a trekkie you must have seen it right? right? :D

Cinebinge

I haven't gotten to strange new worlds yet! but I'm excited to! I also need to finish picard :/ but I keep rewatching tng and voyager

AzraRillian

Great reaction, and happy to see you enjoyed the movie. If at some point you ever want to watch a really cool TV Show related to X-Men, the show Legion (2017-2019) is based on Charles Xavier's son, a very, very powerful mutant suffering from mental health issues. It's not directly related to the movies, but there were plans to have it in the same shared universe, like daredevil is to the MCU. As it is, it's more like an alternate universe, where mutants aren't as well known. And it has Aubrey Plaza being an absolute powerhouse in it.

Vwlss Nvwls

David Bowie was a mutant. He had two colored eyes like Jason Stryker. I am not sure, but I think they were the same two colors, just not as vibrant.

Canonman28

Spoilers it was a fish

Vwlss Nvwls

I remember Jean's death in the cartoons, and it was the first time I was ever fully invested in a cartoon or story. That made this movie and the ending that much more impactful for me.

David N

For anyone who can (legally) partake and has trouble sleeping: Most weed marketed towards sleeping contains high levels of CBD (relaxant) and low levels of THC (psychoactive). IMO you need both for a good nights sleep but CBD gummies are everywhere now and contain none of the psychoactive components that get you high. These along with listening to a podcast help me when ever my brain wont let me sleep.

James W.

This movie has some really nuanced performances from the supporting cast. Like Pyro/John at the surface level was a dick but they have a couple of scenes with him that were very telling. Like him looking longingly, but with a bit of bitterness, at the picture on the wall of Bobby and his nuclear family. It told me immediately he most likely came from a broken home and the way he carried himself was also a telltale of someone who went through some level of abuse. There are scenes like that throughout the whole movie. Very impactful but economical storytelling. Powers in the comics evolved over the course of the series so pretty much anything you can think of in relation to a character's abilities has probably been thought and done at some point. When I started reading in the late 80s I believe they said the amount of iron in blood was not enough for Magneto to manipulate but later on he was able to. At one point he was going to use his powers to reverse the rotation of the earth and cause a mass extinction event while keeping the mutants who followed him safe on an Asteroid sanctuary in orbit. Nightcrawler had the line of sight teleportation limitation like in this film when I was first introduced to him but later when he was in the Excalibur series, he was able to teleport to like whole other dimensions. The power do whatever the writer wants them to do with very few rules besides the rule of cool. I regret selling those comics, it was a good book. Wolverine did regen from like one cell at some point but it was in like an annual or special issue that sort of lived outside of continuity so it wasn't really taken seriously. I also think it was due to some god, celestial, or crazy powerful mutant like Apocalypse or the High Evolutionary so again kinda fringe. Anyway just to say, if you can imagine it has likely been done in the 70 years of X-Men's existence. If you want to read great stand alone comic that encapsulates the core of what the X-Men is, at least to me; check out "X-Men: God Loves, man Kills" It was a graphic novel from like the late 80s that got my Dad to let me read comics.

James W.

Not originally, but it was retconned later in an Uncanny X-Men annual or maybe a special issue where they made that a part of his back story. I read all the X-books for like a solid decade and in the early 90s when their popularity went through the roof they just kept adding new back story and augmenting the ability sets so the could tell more stories. Edit: It was X-men Unlimited #4 which was sort of an anthology series.

James W.

It's some pretty darn good Star Trek. Grain of salt for my opinion because I actually enjoyed Star Trek Discovery and the fan base seems to hate it. You don't get Strange New Worlds without season 1 and 2 of Discovery.

James W.

Legion was so good. I grew up on X-Men and New Mutant in around the time Legion was introduced and that show was able to capture some of the vibes teenage me got from the comics and then add onto it. I would love for Disney to let Noah Hawley (show runner for Legion) be the one to reboot X-Men as a whole in the MCU.

James W.

Yeah, heterochromia. I think one of Bowie's eyes was blue and one was hazel.

James W.

I remember it from the comics as well and I think that X-Men 90s cartoon was kinda better.

W T

More importantly, "strains" and even CBD-THC ratio are pretty much hocus-pocus as far as current knowledge is concerned, at least in terms of "different moods" and purported sleep weed and the like. You can make an argument for terpenes and such factoring into the equation, but especially the classic "sativa is energizing while indica gives me the body high" is pretty much nonsense. It's overwhelmingly a dose-response thing, where too much or too little (rarely a problem as you can just dose up) are just ascribed to the "strain" one is biased against, if that were the case for some reason. It's like beer (and don't get me started on the nitty-gritty of that sensory minefield, so many literally faulty beers on this world's market): if you stop drinking after no. 3 or 4 and are cruising to bed to have a good night's sleep, which even very few drinks will impact quite negatively, the next day is great and people routinely think back and believe the type of beer was part of it - when it's just that they didn't binge themselves half to death for a change. Things that vaguely run in the same vein: - people with the diet of an orphaned 8-year-old (we've all been there) complaining about fast food diarrhea, which is really just a function of them having an absolutely negligible fiber intake while the current digestive system is pushed to its limits because today, boys, we're going for a 5k kcal dinner. Yeah duh you're gonna do a Picasso with that, but normal this is not for the vast majority of foods out there. - that's it, I forgot the rest already Anyone who get anxious from weed and all that: regulate it way down, chances are you just completely blast off all the time when super tiny doses tend to be way more enjoyable, and again, it's not like you can't just go higher... yeah.

akaTheBARON Tokyo Drift

🖤The metal guy is Colossus and the same Colossus from Deadpool. Since the Deadpool movies were shot so long after these, and have learned from fans what they like and don't like, they did a few recasts and redesigns. And can the Deadpool version change from his metal form to human? He should as far as I know, he just hasn't for whatever reason. They have another one of these types of inconsistencies with a character who appears in the next X-men movie (SPOILER FREE AHEAD), who also was in one of the two Deadpool movies you've seen (won't say which, George may already know which character I'm referring to tho). But the x-men version was generally hated, and in the DP franchise, they reworked the design & recasted, but 100% the same character even though they seem very different.

Big Gee

Facts. It gets roasted to hard imo. I agree with you statement still a decent film but not as strong as the first two.

sarCC

Alan Cumming is a terrific actor. One of his best roles is on THE GOOD WIFE, which would be a great show to watch after Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul (it's a lawyer show)

John W Foster

I meant to mention on one of the earlier comments about Colossus (the kid who turns into metal and has a different, recast version in the Deadpool movies) - he actually appears in an easter-egg cameo in the first X-Men movie (he's the kid sketching something in the garden).

Poddington

React to Strange New Worlds, you'll love it! You'll get George into it too :D

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Hell yeah, I remember the first time I saw Nightcrawler on a comic book cover, it was kind of a random X-Men issue from the early 80s that I saw in a comic store in the 90s, had to buy it, since then he's always been one of my favorite characters. Ironically, Archangel is another of my favorites (with the metal wings though), the demon and the angel, just so cool to me as a kid, and still lol So glad you guys are digging these movies, the X-Men are one of the coolest things EVER.

jmundt33a

To be clear, I am a comics neophyte. I have no attachment to Dark Phoenix on the page. But we’ve seen two films and one homage from a well-respected TV series. Horrible and inconsistent things were done to and by the characters. The plotting did not make it worth it. In the case of X3, the ending was a giant fustercluck.

K Murray

Bowie's eye color and pupil dilation was caused by a fight in school, not heterochromia.

Patrick

It's a good thing the X in X-men stands for Xavier, and not C for Charles.

gobmob2000

I said this already in the last film, but its worth repeating again, why does professor X not use 2fa for authentication? Again his biometric authentication fails him and he has not learned his lesson. This is one of my biggest pet peeves in film, when their security is ridiculously dumb for no reason apart from moving the plot along

Chase Schleich

It's a real shame he didn't come back after this. Great actor, great character, great power set.

Justin Leone

Simone reacts to Magneto in almost exactly the same way that Lucille Bluth reacts to Gene Parmesan.

Tanx

lol if you think movie Logan and Scott have a petty relationship, you should see the Ultimate Universe version of their relationship.

Tanx

lol and they rewrote it again recently. pretty huge spoiler since it's a newer comic(X-Men Blue: Origins) so if you want to know you can look it up, but it's a pretty huge twist that honestly reads a bit more like fanfic in a way. wish they had just left it as it was, retcon once... okay ..retcon again...if it's cool, still okay... retcon multiple times just to force more drama into a story...meh. plus the Mystique/Azazel seems like the best fit. doesn't really ruin anything, I just think the who's Nightcrawler's parents thing has been played out already and they could have come up with something new for his character than rewriting his past again. plus with the new Ultimate Universe coming back they could have saved it for a much cooler alternate version of the character.

Noe Ramirez

The opening of this movie is fucking perfection!
