Let’s fucking goooooooo!!!

Ph4ZeD

YEZ!!!

Simon Clifton

After some disappointing entries in the franchise, this one is an absolute barnstormer

ChickensAreRacist

Fell asleep at midnight, checked what movie this would be at 5am and had to get up immediately. Stoked af for this!

djKENTO

If you include AVP then yeah, but I think Predator 2 and Predators are fairly strong… The Predator tho? It’s amazing how bad it is while also being so offensive to so many different disabilities…

Odd Thomas

Sunshine (2007) - please watch

Odd Thomas

I hope the really long movie is Magnolia

Smooticus

I really enjoyed this movie when it premiered. The soundtrack gives it a very indy-horror vibe, and setting it in the 18th century really opens up some possibilities - 16th c Samurai, a 5th c BCE Spartan youth going through the Agoge, or Maasai hunters in 19th c Africa. The possibilities are endless

djKENTO

Yeah y’all need to watch Predators. Produced by Robert Rodriguez and its cast is absolutely bananas, filled with heavy hitters.

Odd Thomas

Amber Midthunder was in the Marvel show Legion, which is one of my all time favourite TV shows. Highly recommend it.

Brendan Rafferty

As long as you’re doing movies that did not win polls… how about Deep Impact? Pretty please

Big.Bad.Mr.Mustard

Agreed, Predators is awesome. Just skip all the other movies in this franchise (unless you need content for CineCringe).

Sumner Hayes

George is right that formally opossums are the North American marsupial with a pointy face and scaly tail, while possums are a separate Australian marsupial (related to sugar gliders) that is super-adorable and worth searching for images of. But colloquially, North American opossums are very often called "possums", especially in Southern dialects.

djKENTO

to answer George’s question about Predator Crossovers… they’ve basically fought everyone. The Justice League including just Superman and just Batman and then the whole JL. Judge Dredd got a round with the Predator. Alien VS Predator VS Terminator is a thing. Predator even had a crossover with Archie. Shockingly Predator never crossed over with Marvel but now Disney owns Predator so I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before that comic happens. One of the most popular fan films of all time is Batman: Dead End where an fx guy made a really high end short film where Batman faces off against a Predator https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3j7d3lIAkes

Young Blood Priest

The pistol is in Predator 2 but he didn’t pick it up it was given to him by the lead Predator as a trophy.

Felreign

Here are a few recommendations from me (if you haven't seen them): Spirited Away, Sherlock Holmes (2009), Willy Wonka (1971), and Muppet Treasure Island

Rupert Purcat

Awesome, thank your both. I thought the doggo looked like an Australian Dingo which our indigenous Australians brought out with them in recent migrations (about 5000 yrs ago). The first Australians arrived about 60,000 years ago. Dingo's are great dogs, friendly and loyal and a 'bit of a hot mess' at times. Cheers

Julian Calzada

This is THE Predator movie. I never thought anything has topped the first one, but Prey is such an elevation of the concept while still feeling true to the original. Having it centered around the Comanche tribe is a welcome breath of fresh air and the choice to avoid superstars showcases how much talent goes underutilized in the industry. Even making the protagonist a woman adds another layer to the themes being presented in and outside the film. I really hope to see more from this cast and crew. Glad you guys enjoyed it. Thanks for a great reaction video.

Daniel Popp

Fun Fact: that breed of dog is actually called an American Dingo. Also a Carolina Dog.

Prof. Writhms

My theory to why the Predator in this movie used projectile spikes instead of a plasma cannon is that it was the 1700s. Maybe the Predator aliens didn’t develop plasma weapons yet.

MikeBdrx

there is a predator vs wolverine comic. pretty good story actually

Daniel Popp

No, they had plasma weapons. But there's no challenge or honor in using such advanced weapons. By using less advanced tech, they increase the challenge and make the hunt more honorable. That's why it fought the bear with its hands and not a weapon.

MikeBdrx

There is an interesting origin story, Predators ( Yautja ) were tribal. Then the Amengi, an insect like race of far advanced aliens conquered them. They enslaved the Yautja and made them work and fight in arenas for amusement.

ChickensAreRacist

Wrt the Comanche representation, yeah that’s another huge part on why I love this movie. The respect they gave them. The language, knowing Comanche reputations were of their violence, etc.

Tucci

That "do it" line was 100% a callback. It would probably be more clear if you saw the other movies. They ALWAYS reference the iconic lines, lol. Also, AvP Galaxy is a big resource for Alien and Predator stuff. It's been around forever.

sarCC

Yay! Best movie(new-to-both-of-you-wise) you've done on here since Air Force One! AND Tremors on Saturday(and Clue the week after!)? Things are looking up!

Christian Rennie

Yas, this had a ton of call backs! There were even more from the movie "Predators." So it is a must for you guys to watch that one after this one. We learn a lot more lore. If you like the Predator universe, I highly recommend seeing it. The one with Adrien Brody to be clear.

BangDroid

Pocahontas Vs. Predator

Odd Thomas

Predators is ok but by far the weakest entry imo

Monica Alarcon

Okay let's watch!... but before that... You should also watch "Predators" from 2010, it's really good and it's stand-alone, but NOT The Predator from 2018, that one is crap...

Big Gee

Hell yeah been waiting for this one

sarCC

I also think it's OK, not worth watching when there's so many genuinely good(much less great) movies to watch but...have you not seen The Predator? I find that one much more embarrassing than either Predator 2 or Predators. (I have virtually no recollection of the AvP movies even though I watched both. I know both were incredibly dumb and the 2nd one was lit terribly, but the first one has one of the best movie taglines of all-time.)

Tanx

the dog is a Carolina Dog and was a breed that was around at that time. some have actually lived feral in the southeast US swamplands and some people call them dixie dingos. this was his first performance I believe, but he wasn't the most cooperative and they had to do a lot of cuts to get his shots in. edit: hehe finally got to watch the last 20 minutes of the video today and saw you all looked up more info on the doggo.

George, If you were with me, you wouldn't be here in this strip club shaking it for dollar bills!

🖤That is the pistol from Predator 2 so we know Predator and Predator 2 are canon to this movie. Anything past that, who knows? Sometimes prequels or sequels come in and decanonize some movies in a franchise when they try to give it a soft reboot. Like Terminator Dark Fate did with everything after T2 and how the newer Halloween trilogy did with every Halloween film after the original first film. Movie canon The two Alien vs Predator movies were never canon, that we know LOL. (Tho I like the idea that they still exist in the same universe, I still pretend they do because Predator 2 references this). There's no reason to assume that Predators (2010), which was the next Predator movie after 2, isn't canon and it's a fairly solid movie so I recommend you two watch that one. As far as Predator lore there is TONS via novels and comics. There are different races just like with humans. Tho again, who knows what's actually canon to the movies at this point after this "soft reboot". One example of this is the comics give the backstory of the pistol and where it originally came from. This movie pretty much establishes that didn't happen, at least in the movie canon universe anyway.

Lloyd S.

This is by far the best Predator movie, both due to its simple coherent storyline, but also the acting by Amber Midthunder.

Jared Winn

Predator vs Ninjas, Predator vs Spartans, Predator vs Zulu… if they keep making period Predator movies I’ll watch them forever.

REDR58

I really like everything about this movie except for the facial design of the Predator. The face is way too busy compared to the design in the original movie and frankly there is no need to gussy it up. I think the prosthetics / mask just looks better in the first movie, and this has nothing to do with the tedious CGI vs practical effects. Both can be fine. I just don’t like the design with this new one. An interesting note about the production of this movie is that the entire cast recorded a Comanche language dub so the movie can be watched entirely in that language if you switch language tracks.

Crunkljack Galore

OK. Bummer. I couldn't purchase it on Apple. On Apple Tv I would have to get either Hulu or Disney. I've been buying the movies I don't already own and either watching for the first time with you guys or rewatching them. This one I couldn't rewatch with you.

VinnyAhhh

So this was directed by Dan Trachtenberg who has a pretty small filmography (this is his second and most recent film) so if you enjoyed the tightness of this movie you should definitely check out his debut film '10 Cloverfield Lane'

Hal451

How about calling it “CineFAQs” 😀

Grand Moff Slackin'

The director, Dan Trachtenberg, was one of a trio of hosts on an OG YouTube show called The Totally Rad Show. It was a personal favorite back in the day. I think he was mainly working on commercials back then. So cool to see him breaking into feature films now.

Wrencher86

Opossum stans rise up!!! They are really nifty little creatures. Amazingly durable. Immune to most snake venom. Given their size they have oddly short life spans, though. You'd think something the size of a cat and not particularly high strung would have a comparable life span but no, they only live 1-2 years.

rick trevino

so happy to see this being reacted too! love the movie so much.

Logan Kerlee

Quality movie for sure! I watched this years ago for the first time and really enjoyed it this time around as well! Happy that everybody had a good time with this one! :)

Gary Fixler

I had the best experience with this movie, because I hadn't heard of it when I saw it, so I had no idea what it was about, or that it was part of any universe. I kept getting little feelings, like "have I been here before?" and "have I seen this?" I was like "why do I recognize this?" I just kept putting more and more together, and then I said "Wait... Is this a Predator movie?" Then, like, 5 minutes later I went "Oh, 'Prey...' Now I get it. Awesome!" 😆

Gary Fixler

I wish more people could have experiences like this, but everyone always knows everything about movies they see. If you ever see a trailer, you've seen the entire movie in most cases these days. They give everything away, and for some reason, everyone's generally okay with it. 🤷‍♂️ It's so much fun to have no idea at all, though, and let it all unfold, and finally realize where you are, and then get excited, because you like it there.

Jacob King

I was going to recommend this one too, and it’s set on the Predator homeworld.

Jacob King

I do really enjoy this movie. It’s kind of simple storytelling but it works and should be a model for this sort of mid tier franchise filmmaking. 100 minutes, easy to explain lore, entirely plot driven. They could do an immediate sequel or they could do one set in a totally different time period and I would be equally interested. My pitch would be a Roman legion. In comics the predators have fought Batman, Superman, Judge Dredd, Aliens (obviously), and Archie. The Archie one is fine but kind of a gimmick.

Ricardo Alanis

Definitely recommend 10 Cloverfield Lane, also by the same director.

Diiirk706

AvP is actually great. George is just a Fucking hater. It's def. better than a ton of stuff that's been done on main.....

11114422

jesus man, chill. its just his opinion that he didnt enjoy it, no more no less than your opinion that you love it. and its not even a particularly important or controversial movie to dislike. even then, no need to curse at someone.

Joe

Predator's aren't all about a fair fight. They might choose to do it that way, but it's usually them with all their weapons vs their prey with all their weapons. They don't care about a fair fight as a default. The predator in the original just chose to fight Arnie that way near the end.

BubblyRainbows

There's one thing with the Predator race that I've always wondered. Clearly, they know that at least some of their prey see in a way other than infra-red, and they've developed tech that can shift their vision and whatnot, but for some reason, the really weird little thing I've always wondered is... do they have any idea that their blood glows and is super obvious to humans? I mean... Their natural method of sight isn't light-dependent, so I don't think they would actually see the way their blood glows... But are they aware of it? Or if they're bleeding and someone follows the trail, do they just assume the person is a skilled tracker? I just have this vision in my head of some Predator somewhere bleeding a bit, and some human is following the trail easily because it glows in the dark, and the Predator being like "WTF? How is this human following my every damn move? It misses nothing!" I have no idea why such an unimportant question is something my brain focused on, but I would really love to know. Has it ever come up anywhere in the lore?

mky

Although she had done other work, the only thing I had seen Amber Midthunder in before "Prey" was the FX series "Legion" (2017-2019), Noah Hawley's take on the Marvel character Legion (David Haller). Amber plays "Kerry Loudermilk", one of the major supporting characters, and true to form, a total badass. "Legion" is an amazing TV series, especially the first season (starting right with the first episode), which is the most astonishing work of television I can remember seeing in recent memory. I highly recommend "Legion", but I doubt enough people have seen/liked it enough for it to make it to the top of any polls here. No biggie, it's all good. :)

George Amberson

I’m very late to the party (watching this after The Social Network, if that tells you how late), and all I can say is…PLEASE WATCH PREDATORS!!!…it is an amazing close to the story (don’t watch beyond!!!)

Foodassassin4life

It's kind of funny because I'm even later to this "party" and I came here to say the exact same thing you did. I really want them to watch this too! A lot of people have mixed feelings on Predators but I think it's a great movie for them to watch, especially after watching Prey

Foodassassin4life

LoL 🤣😆🤣 I've never thought about that but yeah that makes a lot of sense that they wouldn't know their blood glows

Matthew Blackwood

Noah Hawley rules! Maybe we can get them to watch Fargo by luring them in with Bob Odenkirk after Saul ends.
