Clue - Patreon Version

This movie’s a lot of silly fun - Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn and co. are absolute legends. I’m sure a lot of Patrons (others with more detailed info than I) will tell you they shot multiple endings of the killer’s identity and originally screened them in different regions, before eventually combining them into the home video release! Also always lose my shit at the candlestick falling off the door lintel onto Wadsworth’s head lol. Uh, as far as compliments go I get told being 6’3 is amazing for getting stuff off high shelves so I don’t take it for granted lol

David Olden

We’re watching Clue after conversing about compliments, initially about calves, but also about corneas. All beginning with c …?! Coincidence? I think not. 🙃

BHillzebub

I know this is unrelated to the video posted but on the last YouTube community post you have Monster's Inc as one of the movies but no sign of it on Patreon. I was just wondering (hoping) that maybe you forgot to post it?

Ph4ZeD

George I would totally do you for free, just sayin.

Cinebinge

it was originally intended for Thursday the 29th but ran into more copyright issues than usual and needed a couple more days of re-edits. so far it looks like its safe for tomorrow (Thursdays and Sundays are always movie days that arent poll winners from the prior week). Should it fail the copyright tests again then it will have to be postponed to next Thursday before uploading on here, and what was intended for next Thursday would be posted here instead as I am rushing to edit that one first so that there are no gaps in uploads. Which is why on the community post it is written as for next Friday just incase it needed to be delayed further to next Thursday.

Joshua M Freeman

On the subject of compliments, I walked into an elevator once and a lady asked me, "what floor?" I said, "third floor, please" and she said, "you have a lovely voice." I've never thought of my voice in that way.

Brad Lowry

I believe that Canadians might have nicer calves than most other nationalities statistically, because as a people, I would guess that Canadians Ice Skate much more than most other nationalities. I was given many compliments on my legs/calves when I was young and probably because I played a lot of Hockey. (I am not Canadian, but grew up across the border.)

JoeE

I like George’s shirt, hopefully there’s no bar association logo

Cincassette

This is one of my favourite movies - glad you enjoyed it too! I'm a big fan of the witty wordplays and dry humour! A great modern interpretation of the whodunnit, that is also worth a watch is "Knives Out" by Rian Johnson :) On another note, I'd love to see a reaction to "The Graduate" one day - an absolute masterpiece!

Young Blood Priest

I’ve gotten the voice compliment before. Until then I didn’t know having a deep voice was a turn on for some women.

Young Blood Priest

George, Mr Green was in Spinal Tap, and the butler was in Rocky Horror Picture Show.

MikeBdrx

Simone is one of the most authentically beautiful people I’ve seen. To be called “Ms. piggy” in school, well Canada must be a hell of a place filled with supermodels.

brian burke

this is a funny movie, i only saw it on vhs, and all the endings were included in that version. some fun facts, mr. body who hands out the weapons is lee ving from the band FEAR, and the singing telegram lady is jane weidlin who played joan of arc in BILL AND TED and she is from the band THE GO GOS, and mr green is michael mckean, who is in the band and movie SPINAL TAP. so quite a few musical people in this.

Brianna Williams

So happy you watched it and enjoyed it. It's in my top favs.

Eddy V Ruiz II

The theaters had Clue - A or Clue - B or Clue-C in the news paper for the movie listings. You had to look up movie times in the paper at that time, movie phone hadnt even started yet and movie theaters only had a few screens not like 20 plexs of today. I think i saw all 3 in the cinema ( I dont remember what order I saw them in). It was brilliant for return viewings and movies stayed in the theater MUCH longer than today. Mr Green is from Lavern and Shirley for us old people, you just watched him in Spinal Tap and he was the cop in planes trains and autos blink and you miss him role

Julie Lyles

My mom was talking about the multiple endings in the theaters. She said that they were often shown at the same theater. They were marketed as “Clue with ending A” etc. so that people could go repeatedly to see the different endings.

REDR58

Just bought the 4K disc to watch for the very first time. Somehow growing up in the 1980s I never saw this. The Blu-ray (and earlier releases) allows you to watch a random ending if you wish. Edit: okay I haven’t watched yet but looking at my MKV rips of the Shout Factory Blu-ray Disc featuring all the versions, the lengths are: 1:26:22 1:27:34 1:27:45 Followed by what I believe is the version with all the endings shown back to back: 1:36:51

Ginger

This might have been answered already but you've seen Mr. Green (Michael McKean) as David St. Hubbins in "This Is Spinal Tap". I've seen this film years ago, oddly I was waiting the whole time for characters and lines that I now realize are from the movie "Murder By Death" which I highly recommend if you liked this one.

8bitAndy

It's always a great time watching you two react to these fun, lighthearted movies, and this reaction is up there with my favorites. I was too young to see this in theaters when it came out so the multiple ending version is all I've ever known, and I'm so glad for that. Tim Curry is a force of nature and I can't imagine being cheated out of those extra scenes you don't get in the single ending versions. If you want another fun, somewhat dark movie to watch, check out Little Miss Sunshine.

Monica Alarcon

You've also seen Colleen Camp (the maid) as the wife of Noah Vanderhoff in Wayne's World...

Chase Lonnergan

I don't agree with a single compliment about my appearance. I know that they are not true. Reality proves them wrong. Although, the one that surprises me that I hear a lot is my hands. According to what I am told, I have very large, sexy hands.

mpd

Fun fact: if a copy of this movie collides with a copy of Clueless, they will annihilate one another, leaving behind pure energy.

ClaryTehSage

I was about 10 when this was in the theater. We rented it shortly after it came out on video. It had all 3 endings. So basically once it came out on video pretty much everyone knew about the 3 endings.

Lola Lirola

Seriously, speaking of Tim Curry having no right to be this sexy... Watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!!! Do it for Pride Month (it's a legendary starting ground for many a drag queen). Don't keep us shivering with anticip...

Angus Kirk

Oh god you HAVE you film yourselves watching FernGully, I haven't seen it in years!

Odd Thomas

The best Tim Curry movie is Congo. The end.

Pam Nail

- Clue the board game was created in 1943 and first manufactured in 1949. So the time setting of the movie is roughly the same era. - I remember seeing this at the theater, and I'm pretty sure I saw ending C. As I recall, for the first couple of weeks, they *didn't* advertise which ending was at which theater (they still had different endings, but you didn't know which one you're going to get until a couple of weeks into the run). - Someone adapted the movie's screenplay into a play, which I got to see a few years ago. It works surprisingly well on stage, especially the clever ways they found of having the characters move through all the different rooms in the house.

Vwlss Nvwls

I saw this in the theater, and it was the first ending. I remember the theater marquees around town would list ending A, B or C so people could see each one if they wanted. My favorite ending is the C, when he says "I'm going home to sleep with my wife." :D Typically they will list cast alphabetically when there is an all star cast like this movie, and not one top billing actor. Though you do not know all the actors, back when this came out they were all big names in movie and television. And yes, Simone, I also open the shower curtain at other people's houses when I use the bathroom. :)

W T

I feel like looking at imdb actor listings for a whodunnit is really tempting luck, just because I'd keep thinking to myself whether I did or didn't spoil something for myself, in the process spoiling the experience for myself Sorta did something like that for Shogun yesterday. Oh wow would you look at that, flawless segue into talking about what is looking like a top-tier period drama TV adaptation of one of my favorite books, about earlier Japanese contact with western/Christianized civilizations. Great James Clavell novel, the first two episodes were amazingly executed, too, in case anyone needs a recommendation.

Douglas McCabe

If you enjoyed this film there is a surprisingly similar comedy called Murder By Death. It has some magnificent actors including David Niven, Peter Sellars and Alec Guiness, who between takes, was reading the script for some little known indie start up called star wars. I'd love to see you watch it sometime.

Tenn Seven

Madeline Kahn's "flames" monologue is SO good! I believe the secret passages in the film lead to and from the same rooms as the passages in the board game.

Vwlss Nvwls

BTW... the singing telegram girl is Jane Wiedlin, one of the Go-Gos. She was the co-founder and guitarist of the group. She was also Joan of Arc in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Michael Kemmet

Simone: Not sure if you're aware of it, but there's a Critical Role version of the Clue board game featuring the Mighty Nein. I have it, but I've never opened it because I don't have friends to play it with either. lol

Eddy V Ruiz II

I dont think that movie would go over well with the younger crowd. When I try showing that to friends they dont get the references. It is a parody of spy novels, not movies. It is a really funny movie and I love it, but it really didnt age well. Some of the funniest scenes I have ever seen.

George, If you were with me, you wouldn't be here in this strip club shaking it for dollar bills!

🖤If someone gives a vague compliment like "You look nice today" sure, easy to write it off as just being polite. But if someone is complimenting your appearance (outside of clothes and things like that), and specific features (like eyes, smile, hands, ect) I'd say don't sell the compliment short. They likely mean it as it's something they've already noticed. We can't see it sometimes but others do. They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but sometimes we don't want to beholding our own eyes... or is it behooving? Behooving our own eyes? Wait are eyes the right body part we're supposed to hold? Ok, I ruined the expression, but you know what I mean LOL

Miles E Coburn

Great reactions, Simone and George! I was a bit concerned you two would miss some of the jokes because they come fast and furious and sometimes you have a tendency talk over some of the dialogue in other movies and miss bits of information. i.e. you talked over the dialogue in “The Sixth Sense” at the little girl’s wake and missed the girl had been sick for two years, with six different doctors, and the younger girl was showing signs of being sick as well. At least you didn’t mention it. That’s not to say you shouldn’t talk. I mean, that’s what we’re all here for; to get your reactions. And the censors require you to discuss the film and not just show big clips of the movies without some kind of analysis. I just wonder how much information you might miss. I think you may have mentioned during a couple of reactions that you had captions turned on, but I wasn’t sure you do it for all movies. George’s questioning of the calf compliment generated an interesting discussion. MOST men haven’t a clue how to accept compliments (at least compliments about their physical attributes) as they don’t receive them as often as women do, so they’re unsure of how to act. Yes, Simone’s eyes are attractive (almost doe-eyed), but she shouldn’t worry about the slight upturn of her nose. I think most women are more attractive with at least a slight upturn of the nose. That’s why rhinoplasty became so popular for young (teens) women. And then later for those women entering the modeling / acting career track. Before recent weight gains / when I was younger and more svelte, the body part I would be most complimented on was my eyes. Described as “lake blue,” and they were most expressive. Second would be my legs / thighs. While at the gym, one guy called them “Tour De Trump” (bicycle marathon race) legs. And when I was about 16/17 a neighbor’s mother once mentioned them. Let me tell you, THAT was uncomfortable! I remember playing “Clue” when I was a kid, late 60s / early 70s. So, I’m sure it has been around long before then. Although I don’t remember a butler, maid, or cook (let alone a policeman, motorist, or singing telegram) character in the game. This is one of a select few movies I’ve purchased in every format in which it has been released. “Highlander” (1986) and “Ladyhawke” (1985) are the other two. That includes 4K, I’m just waiting for “Ladyhawke” to come out in 4K.

Scott Elsasser

Fantastic reaction, i've been hoping for this one for a long time. One of my favorite films. Most of the interesting trivia has been mentioned in previous comments but one small bit of trivia was during Tim Curry's rant. While he was describing how it was all done he tells everyone how Misses White strangled Evette the maid and says "You were jealous that your husband was "Schtupping" Evette, thats why you killed him too." a throw away call back to Madeline Kahn's character "Lilly Von Schtupp" from Blazing Saddles. Thank you again for all you do. Thoroughly Entertaining!

Jeff Barnes

George, It's interesting that your favorite Indian food is curry. My favorite enchanter is Tim.

Anthony Villena

I've gotten the calves compliment before and it confused me too. On legs days since then, I started checking them out and nodding approvingly

Bennett Holleman

Colleen Camp who played Yvette the maid also played one of the Playboy bunnies in Apocalypse Now.

Wrencher86

Adding mass to your calves is hard as hell. As someone without impressive calves, I would advise George to embrace this compliment. You've got a leg up (HA!) on a lot of people without even trying. Trying not to come off as a creep, I will simply say that Simone does not need to worry about her physical appearance. Her eyeliner game is also on point.

WastedPo

She was also "Connie," one of McClane's coworkers in "Die Hard with a Vengeance."

George, If you were with me, you wouldn't be here in this strip club shaking it for dollar bills!

🖤I made one comment strictly for George as it was a Simpson's reference, but having seen the whole reaction now, it's only fair I make one for Simone... RE: The question of having to open up a closed-over shower curtain in a bathroom at someone's house before doing whatever it is you went in there for (even to just wash your hands)....YES... I also have to see behind it if it's closed over. No questions asked. I think it's weird if people don't do that XD.

Cobbie D

Mckean was also Lenny of Lenny and Squiggy from Lavern and Shirley

sarCC

Utilitarian!

FranciscoGios

If nobody has commented on it, the third ‘what if?’ version represents of how the game is played with real players, everyone blaming everyone of who is the murderer, a multitude of discussion like you guys were saying almost in the end. The complement I get but that i don’t like is that I have a big nose 😭😆.

JoeE

The multiple endings reminds me of matching tie and handkerchief, a monty python comedy album that had two grooves on one side. You didn’t know which you were going to hear when you played the album

Kinokind

A friend of mine did his research when the film came out, but before the endings were common knowledge, and went to see every ending. The film was not very successful when it came out, but as with so many others, it is now recognized as a classic. Yes, the telegram girl is Jane Weidlin of The Go-Gos, but Mr. Boddy is Lee Ving, frontman of the punk band Fear - the first band to have the plug pulled on their SNL performance by the network president. Also, everything is sets except the ballroom, which is in a real building elsewhere. The exterior, sadly, is matte painting mansion. The driveway was real and went to the location of an actual mansion that burned. Although the matte painting is gorgeous, its elaborate configuration does not correspond to the interior, which has essentially an irregular square plan.

Naijeru

Fantastic reaction! The multiple endings were part of the movie's ad campaign so everyone knew about them! Movies had lots of gimmicks back then (i.e. being real-time, having smell-o-vision, pausing for the audience to guess who the killer is etc).

Kevin Knadle

When this was in theaters, the advertising said "Who done it depends on where you see it."

MacGuffinStuff

Love this movie, used to watch it all the time when I was a kid and the jokes are still funny, too many favorites to list but Mrs. White's "flames, on the side of my face," is definitely one of them. Tim Curry was so awesome, fun fact, he was not the first choice for Wadsworth, there was another actor who I'm not familiar with, and I forget why but he wasn't able to do the film, so we got Curry instead, and I can't even imagine anyone else in that role. By the way, Mr. Green was played by Michael McKean who you've seen as the lead singer of Spinal Tap. Also, another Tim Curry movie I love, and even though he's completely unrecognizable in it, he is amazing, of course, is Ridley Scott's "Legend" with Tom Cruise and Mia Sara (Sloane in Ferris Bueller's Day Off). It's fantasy, I loved it as a kid and still enjoy it, problem is that there are several versions and they are radically different, my favorite is the extended version because the scenes that were cut in the theatrical release really should not have been, they actually are a lot better for the story. And unfortunately I can't find that version streaming anywhere. I think the theatrical version is still good, but once you've seen the extended scenes and how much they add to the characters and story, it's just a shame.

Yo, the name is Batty--The logic is erratic--Potato in a jacket--Toys in the attic--I rock and I ramble--My brain is sCrAmBlEd--Rap like an animal but I'm a mammal....

Skyruff

I am not blue! I got my due (shout out) on Clue!

John W Foster

I love that you got the J Edgar Hoover jokes - you would be amazed how many people don't. I also love all the english language humor in this movie. "He threated to kill me in public" "Why would he want to kill you in public?" "I think she meant he threatened, in public, to kill her"

BubblyRainbows

Your version is 1:36:51 seconds, mine is :45 seconds. WTH is the 6 second difference? I am confused.

Spacecat44

Oh god, I have the same nose thing as Simone, but I've actually really come to like it as I've gotten older. And I also mostly get comments on my eyes a lot, I didn't even realize until I got older it's because my irises contain all three colors in concentric rings which is kinda cool, but I also have no idea how to fill out eye color on medical forms now lol

PickettsChargingPort

I need to stop realizing you posted a new movie when I'm getting ready to go to bed. I started watching Prey too late and didn't go to sleep until 3:30.

BubblyRainbows

I think I'm the only person in the world that thinks my favorite joke in the whole movie is funny. Or most people just don't notice it: At the dinner table, Professor Plum says that he works for UNO, the United Nations Organization (which he pronounces "Youknow"), and then mentions that he works for a branch of UNO, WHO, the World Health Organization... So, he works for "You know who." I honestly don't know why I find that so funny, but I do. Edit: Aaaaaaand I just got to the end of the trivia portion and they said it. Still, it's my favorite joke in the whole movie, and there are a lot of good jokes in this movie.

Purple Dragon Knight

Thank you for this great reaction! My favorite has always been Tim Curry running from room to room and the glee on Simone's face was priceless! So much fun! Thank you

Hans Czajkowski Jørgensen

Patrons, I have to ask: Am I the only one doing this? Start out watching the youtube cut, and then watch the long intro and outro of the Patreon version.

REDR58

My US release of the Blu-ray is 1:36:51. Are you watching a stream or from disc? In the US or an other country?

REDR58

Part of the movie was indeed filmed at a real house, the now-lost Max Busch House at 160 South San Rafael Avenue in Pasadena, California. The first Batman (1989) movie had the exterior filmed there as well as a few other movies (Rocky V, Just Married) and TV shows. Unfortunately it was completely destroyed in 2005 as the result of a fire. It was undergoing renovations at the time of the fire.

j...

Kind of crazy you haven't done Knives Out yet.

mky

I too was going to mention that in some circles, Lee Ving (his stage name...get it?) is better known as the founder, lead singer, and guitarist of 80's L.A. hardcore punk band FEAR. I remember seeing Clue the first time (not in the theater) and thinking, "hey, it's Lee Ving! how odd" only to learn that the punk singer I knew of had actually started getting a lot of gigs as an actor. And of course, Jane Weidlin shot dead in mid- singing telegram. Oh no! lol

mky

I kinda think of this movie as a screwball whodunit. So much fun! Which leads me to a recommendation: "What's Up, Doc?" (1972) "What's Up, Doc?" is Peter Bogdanovich's homage to screwball (romantic) comedies of the 1930s - 1950s. It stars Barbra Streisand, Ryan O'Neal, and "introduces" Madeline Kahn (it's her first role in a feature film). It's wonderfully silly and hilarious, and you owe yourself to a viewing even if it never makes it to the top of the polls here. It's a real joy. Cheers!

Brianna Williams

You guys should film a re-watch at some point in the future, knowing what you know. You pick up on new jokes, literally look for clues and who is missing in certain shots...it's fun. George said this has built-in rewatchability, and it's so true. I've seen it so many times and love it.

John

As it relates to George's question. I was in school working with a standardized patient (a pretend patient to allow you to practice skills). After the interview when they were giving feedback they said I had expressive eyes. They mentioned it as a compliment but I've never been sure what to think about my eyes and expression of emotion.

Shpadow

For Billy Crystal comedies, look into City Slickers. Good enough to g et a solid sequel.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

First time checking this out thanks to y’all and I adored it. The gags, quips, and performances are fantastic and I’m a sucker for a good costume department! And for an outrageous 80s comedy a surprisingly large chunk of the jokes are aimed at the expense of the “upper” class as bumbling and/or conniving killers and degenerates. It’s been forever since I’ve played the board game so I can’t remember if that was part of the plot of the game as well?

Christopher Feiertag

The both of you watching „Clue“ is another excuse for me to recommend Tim Curry‘s Magnum opus again: „The Rocky Horror Picture Show“. Let‘s do the Time Warp again, pleeease! 😉

Spacecat44

If you guys want more classic Madeline Kahn, I HEAVILY recommend "What's Up, Doc?" (1972), a classic 70's screwball comedy with Barbara Streisand and Ryan O'Neal. It was my family's favorite movie when I was growing up and I personally think it has Madeline Kahn's funniest performance. It's one of those perfect little comedies that has everything: A fancy gala, a room on fire, gunfights, political intrigue, a jewel heist, fistfights, a bubble bath, Burnsy, head injuries, snakes that fear tile, secret government underwear, gangsters, romance, a chaotic courtroom case, and quite possibly the funniest comedy car chase of all time.

Lachlan Caldwell

"Communism was just a red herring." ~ I can't believe the number of times I've seen this film, and I only just got that joke.

Simon Pegged Me

And in the game, the only mystery that matters is who killed Mr. Body, with what weapon, in which room. The winner reveals the killer much in the way that Mr. Green does except in the third person: "I killed Mr. Body, with a gun, in the hall." I really wish he'd added "The other deaths were red herrings."

Simon Pegged Me

I saw Clue opening weekend, and I had no idea there were other endings until much, much later. When my friends found out, they drove to different theaters to see them all. I had to wait until Clue moved to the $1 theatre to do that. Regarding the questions, one, I do look behind a closed shower curtain. I don't feel alone and safe until I do. I got teased as a kid for the way I walked. Apparently, I had the waddle of a drunken penguin. A classmate mentioned it, the others went "Oh, yeah!" and it became a thing. I get complimented on my voice. It's in the bass range, and apparently, it's calming and lovely. I cringe when I hear it, though. I'm more self-conscious about it than I am about my walk. Simone, though kids are quick to find fault in any physical difference (see above), I read an article recently in which your type of nose was described as “retroussé.” The writer used it as a compliment: “un beau nez retroussé,” I think. Finally, for more Madeline Kahn, I recommend Mel Brook's The History of the World Part I. George, given your side project, you might like it.

Superpotroast

My favorite part is the singing telegram..Just so abrupt and seems, at first, to be so out of place.. I wonder how many takes it took Tim Curry to do all his running\rant scenes, if you think the whole sequence in the movie is exhausting..

brian burke

the singing telegram by the way is jane weidlin, from the band the go-gos, she also played joan of arc in bill and ted's excellent adventure

brian burke

the movie also has lee ving from the band fear, and micahel mckean from spinal tap, alot of music acts in this movie, makes me like it even more

Justtired

When I saw this on the theater, it was the second ending. This version of the film is a lot more fun than the single ending

Andrew

I saw this in theaters when it came out. I had ending C where they all did it. However, it was publicized in advance that there were 3 different endings depending on where you saw it. It wasn’t set up like a prank or anything. There wasn’t any confusion as to what was going on….unlike if there is anyone else in the house. 😜

SteveB

You probably already know this by now, but Mr. Green was played by Michael McKean, who also played Chuck on Better Call Saul. Just posting this in case you hadn’t figured it out yet.
