I Am Legend (Alternate Ending) - Patreon Version

Comments

Reid Mclellan

No way, you actually did the alternate ending version, you have my eternal respect although I'm already paying money for this so I guess it doesn't matter lmao

Hammy

I can only find the standard version for streaming, the alternate ending version is $10. Is the alternate version available to stream anywhere (legally)?

Jay Davis

I just want to go on record that I did not vote for this (you monsters!)... now. Let's watch!

Jon

.... oh shit.... this one is gonna be tough for Simone :) (you know why)

Odd Thomas

I really wish they had not gone the CGI monster route. Even in 2007 it just looked crappy. But otherwise a good film.

AzraRillian

Apparently they're going to do a sequel with the alternate ending as the canon ending.

Amar

Alternate Ending damn it lol

Odd Thomas

Francis Lawrence directed this - he also directed every Hunger Games movie bar the first one so I hope you return to the franchise, it's really good

My name is Jeff

This version aint available for me to watch at my country. Sad. Really wanted to watch this one. There have Been few movies that they go with special editions and those are not easy to find.

Prof. Writhms

It would have been interesting to see you two react to both endings. The endings are only about 10 minutes long. You could have edited in your reaction to the theatrical ending as well, then talk about it. Good idea? No? I'll see myself out.

Prof. Writhms

Agreed. And wouldn't it have been easier to make-up actors to look like the zombie/vampires?

11114422

lmao great idea as content for us! im just trying to imagine the logistics of how they would get it done. "okay how far do we scroll to know when the new ending begins" "i dunno keep scrolling till we see something different" "wait i went too far i got spoiled, shit"

brian burke

hello im brian from USA, what country are you in? there are some versions on dvd of it that may be available in other nations, i sometimes get stuff from around the world and some computers dvd players can play them, maybe i can help you with info

Odd Thomas

This came out two years after Spielberg's War of the Worlds, which is my favourite end of world movie and my favourite Spielberg movie, so I highly recommend it

Orphan Crippler

I forgot how bad the CGI is in this movie.. Didn't this come out the same year as Transformers?... wtf..

Martin Roca

Holy shit, i never saw this ending...

Paul Davey

This is based on the 1954 novel of the same name which has been made into a movie several times including "The Last Man On Earth" in 1964 with Vincent Price and "The Omega Man" in 1971 with Charlton Heston. The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror story "The Homega Man" is based on the Charlton Heston movie.

JokerDanny

This alternate ending is actually the happier ending.

REDR58

In the US, on Blu-ray, at least, it appears that both endings were included on the disc. That’s what I have from an old Blockbuster rental disc I got when the store was closing.

Carlos Hurtado

I had no idea there was an alternate version. I do remember a lot of people not liking the original ending.

Daryl

Hateeeeee the alternate ending version. Still gonna watch though. Love this movie!

REDR58

Pedantic mini-rant… “miracle” cure from science, “designed” by nature…. NO NO NO. Anyway, the thing with the CG, the animation looks great, animals and infected people, it’s just the lighting looks off.

E. D.

I can‘t find the alt ending version (for free; same for Abyss weeks ago). Annoying, but it is what it is..

REDR58

Check out “Hancock” from 2008 for a Will Smith superhero movie.

ExquisiteCapybara

have not seen this movie in ages until now, really enjoyed the watchaling :) Alos: nominating Outbreak (1995) for the list of viral movies to watch

MasterElodin

From what I remember that movie is absolutely dogshit terrible, but also insanely entertaining. Kind of like Transformers a little bit lol. Would love to see a reaction.

E. D.

"watchaling" sounds cute lol ... yeah, outbreak is great and the DOP was amazing, the opening scene in one shot is so cool

Jpsynergy

Prefer the book overall, the movie fundamentally changes the story but it's still enjoyable.

Christian Rennie

Some people don't like fun or jokes (Abyss). Seriously, though, I understand the "alternate" director's ending of I wanna just end the movie on my terms. But I really like the theatrical version better. If they combined them it might be better.

djKENTO

Not only is the “alternate ending” better… but it’s also the canon ending they’re using for the sequel and I can’t think of any other movie that’s done that.

gobmob2000

I don't think its a "leader and feral grunts" thing, I think the implication is that they evolved from their initial infection when they where feral and have started to develop a society. So the earlier infected where de-evolved but they changed over the years and have started to develop the capacity to be of a more higher order intelligence. So the question the film is trying to pose is, does he even have a right to "fix" them at this point.

FranciscoGios

My first time watching ‘Fred’ the mannequin moving its head, I thought it was a Dark Seeker smart enough to stand still and pretend to be ‘Fred’; until Will Smith’s character shot it 😂.

Vwlss Nvwls

When I was in pre-school I had a German Sheppard that was all white and named Sam (short for Sampson). :D As I understand it, the name "I Am Legend" is because he is a legend to all the infected. I like both endings, but I think the theatrical ending fits the overall movie theme better. I am not sure, but they probably went with theatrical ending because of test audiences.

Patrick

I have a hard time watching the whole dog scene. Weird choice in the next scene where he's in the video store talking to the mannequin, to have the porn section right behind him haha

Logan Kerlee

I really enjoyed watching this with you guys! Initially I was expecting to dislike this reaction. I did NOT like this movie the first time I watched it. Granted, I watched the original version. I don't clearly remember the differences between the two, just that I did not like that movie and that I refused to watch it again. This one isn't a scary movie but it definitely has some scary moments! It's more thrilling than scary, I feel. Oh! This movie is based off of a book with the same name. I'm sort of surprised that neither of you checked on that before watching this. I guess it shows that you both really do like to go in blind before watching something. :) Happy that I got to watch this today!

Logan Kerlee

I enjoyed this ending far more than the original. :/ What do you like more about the original ending?

REDR58

Nice reaction, it was interesting that go all the complaints since the movie came out that many people have had about the quality of the visual effects of the Darkseekers, Simone and George didn’t even comment on it. The Darkseekers did indeed set the trap. And it’s “species” George, singular and plural for the biological category. Like “aircraft,” “deer,” “police” and so on. “Specie” only refers to money/coinage. Once again I just don’t understand why so many people complain that the movie isn’t “just like the book!” Whether it’s comic books, novels, plays, whatever, who cares? It’s a different form of media. If people want something “just like the book!” then maybe just go read the book again?

Chase Schleich

You could have just watched the theatrical ending on YouTube and watched it along with us at the end of this video. Then you could have discussed which you liked more.

Chase Schleich

Which is strange because most people who saw this movie have only ever seen the original ending. I guess it's been long enough though. People have either forgotten the ending or at least know there was an alternate version.

Paul Peavler

I remember waiting until this movie came out on Blu Ray to see it for the first time because so many people hated the theatrical ending and the Blu Ray included the alternate ending as bonus content and it made the movie so much better. With the theatrical ending, the title doesn’t even make sense - Robert is the legend to the Darkseekers because he’s basically kidnapping some of them during the day, torturing them, then killing them. Even if the Darkseekers were killing humans, based on Robert’s math, there are 9x more Darkseekers than humans left on Earth, so the average Darkseeker probably hasn’t even killed a human. Robert, on the other hand, has killed dozen of them, all because he doesn’t see them as worthy beings anymore. He sees them as a plague and a threat and he’s trying to exterminate them. The alternate ending makes clear that they aren’t, they are intelligent beings capable of higher level thought, planning, love, and even forgiveness. The theatrical ending just reinforces Robert’s prejudice. It completely flips the entire point of the movie.

droodly

To each their own, but have you read the book? In lots of cases I would agree, but this is one of those cases where I have to wonder why they even bothered (aside from money). The entire concept of the book is thrown away. They could have just named it "Night Monsters VS Will Smith". The title "I Am Legend" and content of the story had a very specific message\thesis that was utterly gutted in the movie (mainly in the theatrical cut, but still not done justice in the alternate cut). People get excited when they see a great story is being made in another media so they can experience it in a new way. personally I'm cool with changes that make the story more digestible, but keep the soul of it intact, but they changed this entirely. When they drop the ball this badly it sucks.

Thirty Year Old Mulberry Field

Not a bad flick but unfortunately it doesn’t do much for me that other movies of the time don’t already cover: “Castaway” and it’s take on isolation, “28 Days Later” on post-apocalyptic thrills or Will Smith’s acting chops in “Ali” or “The Pursuit of Happyness”. And as far as endings this is my preferred version but it still doesn’t feel earned in its revelation of Neville being a boogeyman for a new age. It’s not a long movie so I feel like it could have taken some more time to work for that angle.

Brendan Rafferty

The meaning of the title “I Am Legend” is better explained in the original novel from 1954. In a world now populated by vampires, Robert Neville, a vampire hunter, becomes a bogeyman, a legend, vampires tell their children about

Tanx

yeah. the alt ending, or real ending, makes this movie sooo much better. the second they ended up in the lab and saw the improved darkwalker I knew what was going to happen while watching this in the theater. I had no interest in really watching it again until I saw there was an alternate ending and I ended up watching it again and now I have watched it a few more times. it makes all hidden butterfly parts pay off even more throughout the film.

Tenn Seven

It's unfortunate that this pile of mediocrity completely missed the point and the twist of the original novel. All in all a very disappointing movie.

Philipp Roensch

Yes, this canon ending is closer to the book, a little bit and works better. The cinematic one was a dry fart. And definitely, this movie was a big ego trip for Will Smith and him trying to be in more serious roles. But so full of silly, dumb ideas, like "a good car with a cop" and the lone hero who is the solution to all conceit.

MasterElodin

You probably already watched this but the alternate ending is on YouTube. You just have to pause the movie and switch over when the difference starts
