New Species: Malzari, Balance in Paradox (Patreon)

Our April Release is finally ready! Adventurers and above can now check out our newest D&D species, the Malzari, born from Celestial and Fiendish blood.

The original inspiration for this species came from some of our favorite lore around tieflings and aasimar in Dungeons and Dragons. These two species can be born from parents who themselves are not tiefling or aasimar. If at any point in history a bloodline made a deal with devils, demons or angels, there's a chance that an offspring, somewhere down the line will be born as a tiefling or aasimar. Like a gene that randomly appears after skipping a few generations.

We thought, well what if you have both? We're not sure if there's a canonical answer within the Dungeons and Dragons lore or not. It's likely that the D&D powers that be would answer similar to how half-elf, half-orc or others are now treated -- they exist, but you still just use the species stats of one or the other. Or work with your Dungeon Master to pick and choose.

But we weren't content with that answer! And so, we have the Malzari, a being similar in some aspects to tieflings and aasimar, a little bit from both sides that embodies the struggles of the light and the dark.

The Malzari are a unique species to help tell a story of the push and pull of good versus evil, nature versus nurture, and builds those themes into the mechanics and traits of the species. From a species trait that can change through the narrative, to dual Sin and Virtue abilities you pick at character creation -- whether chosen based on your backstory or just because you like the mechanics, no two Malzari will play the same!

Adventurer Tier members and up can find the Malzari species in our Player Options Collection here!

If you have any feedback you'd like to share on the Malzarri (or any of our content) we encourage you to do that on this form or join the Discord. Also, if you'd like to have one of your D&D stories read on the Podcast we're always accepting AITA Stories from the perspective of your character!
