What started with Vinny's story about a dead car battery ended up with a lengthy discourse on energy policy and the future of technological process that we're quite sure will one day be viewed as nothing less than a new dawn for humanity.

Well this title takes me back to my old podcast, Brews and Blasters.

I went through 3 batteries on my 2015 Prius during 2020. We just weren’t driving anywhere during lockdown and when we did, it would always be my wife’s car because she hated driving the Prius and we have tandem spaces - so the Prius just sat there for a year. Apparently the starter battery on the Prius slowly drains while parked and if you leave your car just sitting for more than 3 or 4 weeks, it just dies. We sold the Prius and leased an Ioniq 5 a couple years ago. Love, love, love the Ioniq but my wife drives it about 15-20 minutes to work in sunny LA, several times a week so we’re good. 🤪

Does Hyundai/Ioniq have an app? My mum's Escape will tell her to take it for a joyride when the battery is low. I had similar problems when I worked a mile and a half from home for a couple of years.

You're telling me that cars now have Meter?

Matt

Ahh the good old days when cars had a simple battery gauge by the speedometer….

I would raise hell with the car stuff. Never take no for answer, the car is 1-2 years old, brand new, still under warranty, if nothing else it's shit-tier customer service that is unacceptable for a purchase so big. Dealerships don't like detailed bad reviews, threaten them with that, which you have a right to for being left to fend for yourself on a 40k+ brand new car. It's outrageous, I would make them want to get off the phone with me. They need to accommodate you.

My Kia EV6 will activate the main battery to recharge the 12-volt system even when the car is off. There's a big yellow light on top of the dashboard to indicate when this happens. It's pretty ridiculous that the IONIQ wouldn't do the same.

Also there should ABSOLUTELY be an open-source car.
