Chapter 296

Sophia also boosted Steph's and Chloe's magic, bringing everyone in the group to the same power level so they all could have as much fun as possible. The two reacted a little differently, though, or rather, didn't react at all, and their authority just grew without any fuss. No one had a real explanation for it, but everyone assumed the usual Mira shenanigans. The only one left was Maya, but Sophia decided to give her a private one-on-one session after seeing how sensual Anna and Ari reacted when the magic flowed into them.

“Is everyone feeling okay today?” Sophia met everyone in the living room the morning after and asked whether her boosts had any side effects.

“Better than okay!”

“Better than ever!” The wolves instantly replied to her. “Aura and I went for a little walk to test our new powers, and it's amazing!" His eyes were sparkling as his tail wagged at a ferocious pace.

“Yes, thank you so much for this.” The female wolf was also glad about it.

“That’s good to hear~.” The blonde smiled at them. “What about the others?”

“Same as usual, but more powerful!” Steph and Chloe gave her a thumbs-up. “Thank you!”

“I feel weirdly energetic, but not exactly in a bad way.” Ari scratched her cheek.

“I feel super bubbly, too!” Anna nodded a few times. It almost looked like her entire body was vibrating with excitement.

“Well, I guess your bodies are still getting used to all the extra power because you got by far the greatest improvement based on your previous authority.” Sopia nodded a few times. “Anyway, I’m glad it worked out for everyone!”

“Thank you!”

“By the way, where is Maya?” Chloe noticed that the cat-girl hadn’t arrived with Sophia earlier. “I’m curious to find out how magic-assisted sex feels to use on Steph!”

“That is of utmost importance!” The dog-girl nodded along.

“Ahh… She’ll join us later today.” Sophia paused for a second before her expression turned incredibly smug. “She told me she needs to rest a little longer until she feels her legs again~.”

“Woah!” The fox let out a sound of admiration.

“Now that’s my sister!” Steph was incredibly proud.

“She really is that good after all, huh?” Ari felt reminded of their conversation from yesterday.

“Seems like it.” Anna thought the same.

“Hehe.” She liked their reactions. “It indeed was rather intense~.” Her smirk only got bigger. “Oh, and Maya also turned out a little stronger than everyone else. The finale was a bit extra explosive, and I accidentally used a little extra power. It’s just a few percent, though. I call it the girlfriend privilege. For many reasons.”

“I have so much to learn!” Chloe’s eyes were sparkling.

“And here I thought Maya was my benchmark to beat!” Steph raised her voice. “My own sister was the final boss all along!”

“I don’t usually initiate things because I don’t have to with her, but when I do, I make sure that Maya remembers for a loooong time~.” She looked quite proud of herself. “Anyway, I’m going to update Kel on some stuff. How about, once Maya can walk again, we have lunch and continue exploring the monster country?”

“Sounds good to me.” Chloe liked the idea.

“Time to tame myself a griffin!” Steph did, too.

“I’ll go ahead and start preparing lunch, then," Ari replied with a gentle smile.

“I’ll help!” Anna reacted with a big nod.

“Are you going to boost him, too?” Aura got curious about her plan.

“I wasn’t planning to. Not yet, at the very least." The blonde shook her head. “I mean, he still has a lot more authority than any of you, so he’s good for a little longer~.”

“Fair enough.” The female wolf could follow her. "Speaking of, now that I have twice the magic, I can’t wait to play with him again.” The predator inside of her surfaced once more. “He might still be physically stronger, but I’m a lot faster, and now I pack even more of a punch~.”

“Sure, but let me warn him first.” Sophia let out a small chuckle. “Once I’m back, he’s all yours.”

“Okay!”

----------------

Having planned the rest of their day, Sophia took a quick portal to Kel’s ocean to tell him about some changes that had happened, mostly in regard to her authority to not keep him out of the loop. She ended up on an island in the middle of it and waited for the imminent reaction.

“WHAT IN THE NAME OF EVERYTHING HAPPENED TO YOU?!” Kel, who was in the water nearby, instantly noticed her presence and panicked a little as he jerked his massive body around to face her.

“I’m happy to see you, too~.”

“Don’t try to play it off!” He got even closer and moved his head towards the tiger, so his eye was right in front of her. “I was wondering why you hadn't been around, and when Aura mentioned you were sick, I got even more confused. What kind of sickness is this, and how can I get infected?!”

“I didn’t get stronger because I was sick. I was sick because I got stronger.” She lightly shook her head. “It’s not contagious, either.”

“Too bad!” He sounded extremely disappointed. “What does that even mean? How did you get stronger? To this degree, especially?!”

“I created life~.”

“Congratulations?” Kel looked confused. “Which of your girls is pregnant? I'd better congratulate them, too, right?” He then paused for a second. “Wait, since when does reproducing come with such a massive authority boost?”

“I did not get anyone pregnant.” The blonde rolled her eyes. “I get where you’re coming from, but that’s not what I meant by creating life.”

“What do you mean, then? How else does one create life?”

“Well, it’s a little hard to explain, but let’s start here~.” Sophia held up her hand, and a moment later, Lime appeared out of nowhere and landed on it while letting out a happy chirp.

"Not another one!" Seeing the green bird and sensing the power inside, Kel instinctively recoiled and increased the distance between them.

“Blu really did a number on you, huh?”

“Why do you have another overpowered bird?!”

“I created her~.” Sophia used her other hand to gently pet the parakeet’s head. “Her name’s Lime!”

*Chirrp~!* She lifted her wing to greet the dragon.

“How does that make any sense?! How does one create a bird?!”

“Overseer shenanigans~.” The blonde reacted with a cheeky thumbs-up while Lime let out a happy chirp.

“…” He just stared at her for a little while. “I dislike how this is a viable explanation that I can accept. Wait, but the last time this topic came up, you were very insistent about the part where you are not an overseer.”

“Things change over time, you know?”

“That was a few weeks ago!” He didn’t accept it.

“I’m just kidding~.” Sophia liked his reaction.

“I dislike how whimsy you are.” He intensified his stare again. “Especially because that’s the defining overseer trait, which contradicts your reply so much.”

“I don’t want to hear that from someone who ate sparkly magic rocks in the hope of getting stronger."

“I didn’t say that being whimsy is an exclusive overseer trait, but it’s certainly not helping your case, as every single one of them is like that.” The dragon paused for a second. “Tell me what’s going on already! How does one create a bird?! With many times your authority no less! How did you get almost 50 times stronger in a week?!”

“Overseer can turn magic into living beings by converting it.” She looked at Lime before continuing. "A bird like her needs around a thousand times my authority I had when you last saw me. As an added bonus, the created being can use that magic as their own internal authority. That’s why she and Blu are so strong. Ah, right, Blu was created by Mira and then adopted by me because he liked me so much.”

“Hah.” He didn’t know what to react to first there. “You aren’t an overseer why again? Everything you just said sounded like further proof of you being one.”

“I don’t have nearly enough power. My newest boost got me no closer to it, even though it's a lot to us, to be regarded as one.” Sophia shrugged. “I also don’t have a specialization like magic or nature that everyone else besides Canir has. I just want to have fun, and even though Mira said that’s fine, too, that’s still a differentiation.”

“So, you’re a baby overseer in training?”

“I’m a baby overseer-like girl in training, trying to gain overseer powers without the overseeing part. All of the fun, none of the responsibilities or titles.”

“Respectable.” Kel could get behind that. “Can you do the one without the other, though?”

"Mira, as usual, wasn't entirely clear on the details, but she also said I could become the overseer or caretaker of having fun for all she cares. If I never accept an official title, I’ll never become an official overseer!”

“Is that how that works?"

“Absolutely!”

“Really?”

“Yup!”

“Hmm.” He somehow wasn’t convinced about that. “How did you make the green one, though?” Kel decided to change the topic. “You said it takes a thousand times your previous authority, so… how? Do overseers in training, denial, or whatever, have an unlimited magic glitch up their sleeves?"

“Not really, no.” The tiger shook her head. "Mira obviously has enough authority to create whatever she wants in an instant. I did indeed have to use a trick, but it was not an infinite-power glitch. Over the last couple of months, I've been pumping raw magic into a specific area of the domain. As my regeneration is extremely fast, I managed to collect over a thousand times my authority in raw magic, which I then used to funnel through myself to create Limes.”

“It’s okay if I just pretend that it makes sense, right?”

“Don’t worry, I do the same.” Sophia couldn’t blame him for that.

“I still don’t understand the part where you’re suddenly like 50 times stronger than last week and what that has to do with birthing a bird.”

“…” She wasn’t a fan of his wording. “As I said, in order to create Lime, a thousand times my previous authority was needed. Mira easily has that much inside of her. I don’t. Instead, I used the collected raw magic and instantly pushed it through my body in one go to fake me having that much authority. It came with some side effects, though. Mainly, a lot of pain and my authority forcefully adapting to some degree and never returning to normal.”

"Like forcing too big of an object through too small of a hole and stretching it?" The dragon lightly tilted his massive head.

“…” The blonde, once more, didn't like his wording. Especially because way too many had already used the exact same example. “Yes…”

“How did you not explode? Whenever I try to use all my magic at once, besides it not working, I also always get the dreaded feeling of popping. Though, I haven’t felt that since coming here, now that I think about it.”

“My domain doesn’t have the same upper limit, so you can use more at once. Your authority difference shouldn’t be enough to do that anyway, though. It’s probably just some sort of safety Mira implemented so you stop trying.”

“Sounds like her.” He could follow that explanation.

“For why I didn’t explode, well, overseer privileges. Still hurt enough to make me faint, though.”

“Can you decide if you are one or not already?!”

“…” She had nothing to defend herself with, so the tiger decided to change the topic instead. “Oh, by the way, be wary of Aura. I boosted her magic, so she has twice her original authority now, together with Fen and the girls, and she’s been itching to play with you.” She really wasn't doing a great job on getting rid of the allegations, though.

“YOU DID WHAT NOW?!” He raised his voice. A lot.

Afterward, Sophia spent the next 30 minutes explaining what was going on and how she had blessed the others with a portion of her new powers.
