So..... fun fact, I have some French blood, that is why my French accent is so amazing. I am a true mix of cultures! Anyway, that is all I've got to relate to this episode! Ha!

*To be clear, I do not possess the blood of a French person in any physical form, I meant I descend from French relatives.

First again Bosh

Josh

I've got American blood in me, which I'm ashamed to admit 😪 also a bit of Italian which is cool 😎

Hi Mandy! Since many people get their sense of British history from watching Blackadder, I thought it might be important to clear up some anachronisms. This particular series of Blackadder plays quite loose with the timing of real events. Much more so than the other series. This is the regency period. Prince George's dad, George III, has serious mental illness and is deemed unfit to serve the country. He's still alive, so he's still King, but his son George is appointed to rule in his place, and known as "The Prince Regent". This is the official regency period, and lasts from 1811 until 1820, when George III dies and Prince George become King George IV. So it's 1811-1820 ok? Well, the French Revolution was 1789-1799, so quite a few years before George's time as Prince Regent. Similarly the last episode; Dr Johnson's dictionary was published in 1755, many decades before the regency. In fact, Dr Jonhson died in 1784 and may not have even met George. Even the first episode: Pitt the Younger was in office from 1804-1806, predating the regency. Just so you know, it's just for entertainment. These are real events broadly speaking, but the dates don't quite add up.

irreverend

Broadly speaking yes I think the idea is that each series is a descendant of the first Blackadder, each time a lower social status than the previous.

Jeffrey44

Do you think we will ever see a female Blackadder? What about a gay Blackadder or a black Blackadder?

irreverend

No. Alas there will be no more Blackadders :'(

yemmlie

OMG that must be an ADHD thing - if I have ANYTHING in the morning I'm completely doomed any chance of getting to sleep its like a self fulfilling prophecy because i can't sleep stressing that I won't be able to sleep to be good for whatever the thing is in the morning lol

irreverend

In the credits there that's not an f it's a long s, or ſ. You don't see it used any more, it's an archaic letter. So it's just Miss but written Miſs

2026-09-23 20:00 Let's give it a couple of weeks and then check urban dictionary.

Danny

I always think the big sausage bit is hilarious, gets a snort laugh 😅 , but I like that kind of silly childish humour haha

Danny

It isn't miFs its it's miſs, ſ is an old timey letter from the time which is essentially an s. Its just thrown in to suit the old timey credits. Its called a long s

YearRoundHibernater

The Mifs thing is just a long s, back in the day a long s or ſ was used as the first s in case of a double, I don't know why it's just what they did, stopped being uses in the late 1800s I think but shows up in old texts. So Mifs is actually Miſs and just means Miss. Also just so you know Richard Curtis, who you watched be interviewed by Philomena Cunk the other day, is one of the writers for Blackadder.

Jeffrey44

No more Blackadder because it's not diverse enough.

Tee Tee

I'm exactly the same, I always thought it was just me, nice to know it's not.

Tee Tee

That was an odd episode, don't think I'd seen that one before. Your outro had me dying, never expected that from you 🤣🤣

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

Of all the possible comparison options 🤔, I was not expecting - "Some leather stretching out real tight." 😶 Oh Mandy I. Am. Really. Trying to fight that image. But you know...whatever you're into 😉😂😂 ...sorry. I'll never get tired of your 'french' accent. Tho, speaking of tired, do your eyes not get dry watching that screen so close? Mine would be red and itchy by now. Bet that's your brother's teeshirt you're rocking too. 😜

Yoshua Simoleit

Talking of live animal markets, I heard a mildly interesting story. Because of the high unemployment rates of young people in Spain, many of the Spanish young people try and get jobs in other countries. A Spanish person I know had a friend from back home who got a job in Nairobi, Kenya, and she said that living in Nairobi was pretty much the same as living in Europe, they had restaurants and bars and shopping malls and cinemas and all that, but the main difference was that if you wanted to eat chicken, you had to buy a live chicken from the market. No prepackaged chicken breasts or any of that. Only live chickens.

Remi

Hearing you say knob will never get old I'm such a childish bastard, also your french accent is flawless maybe you could change my opinion on La french someday

Remi

That french guy really does remind me of Steven, the shitty accent sounds like the one Steve uses to avoid giving charity workers money 🤣 he's also "Lanky"

DriveIn

The writers of Blackadder really know how to get the most out of the "man who is very good at disguises" thing 😂

Remi

🤣 well that was an outro remind me miss Mandy whats a mifs?

2026-09-23 20:00 Good to see Chris Barrie in this one. Mandy, hard to imagine isn't it, when you watch Rowan playing Edmund Blackadder, that it's also the same guy as Mr Bean? They couldn't be more different. I think your last sentence on this video should gain as much traction as a Karl 'knob at night' remix :) haha. I don't see Blackadder as being third in line for the throne, he's a butler only. Enjoyed this one as always.

Danny

Next episode is one of my favourites from the show 😁

Mandy Cane Lane

Rowan is extremely talented! He definitely has great range! I still loked his look best on Blackadder 2. With the beard and ruffled collars 🤪

Mandy Cane Lane

Huh? Never heard or seen that word in me life! 😅👀

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahaha! I have been seeing Stephen everywhere lately! 😅🤣

Mandy Cane Lane

I don't remember why I mentioned leather stretching, but I feel like it was in an innocent context. I have a 3 hour time limit and after that I have to stop. My eyes don't necessarily get itchy, but they do get tired. And that shirt is mine I'll have you know 😋

Mandy Cane Lane

Huh, that is curious. Makes more sense than what I said. 🤣🤣 -- Oh, the man with the fabulous voice? Cool!

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

Alright. I'll let you off. 😜 Glad you're looking after your eyes darlin. 👌

Mandy Cane Lane

We can start a club! 🥹💚 I also have this thing where no matter what time I set my alarm, I naturally wake up ten minutes before it. Even if it is a time I have never woken up at before. Am I alone?

Mandy Cane Lane

Well at least this Blackadder still has a Baldrick by his side 💚 Lol

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

No darlin. I'm same. If I know I need to be up early, my brain seems to note this and I wake up about 10-60 minutes before on my own. I've heard a theory that the brain can somehow count your heartbeats to measure the passing of time. I doubt it tho. I think it's just the excitement stops you having a deep sleep.

Mandy Cane Lane

Ohh, wonderful clarifications! Thank you! 💚 I take my history more like Karl though.. everything is just "ages ago" 🤭

Mandy Cane Lane

Lol, nothing to be ashamed of! No one can help where they come from! I too have Italian blood. 🤌🏻

Mandy Cane Lane

You are on fire it seems! (I saw your quiz, looks super fun, I am making my way to it!)

Remi

I got curious so I googled it and here you go. It seems to be a quite outdated title, and to be acurate, it was used during the Georgian era. —provides the key. It isn't Mifs, it's Miſs, which is an old way of writing Miss. The third letter is a "long s", for which I'll quote the beginning of Wikipedia's article on the subject: The long, medial, or descending s (ſ) is a form of the minuscule letter s, which was formerly used where s occurred in the middle or at the beginning of a word (e.g. "ſinfulneſs" "sinfulness"). The modern letterform was called the terminal, round, or short s. The period at the end is probably there because they were aware that this title was originally short for mistress. (Merriam-Webster Dictionary online) You can find more about the history of that letterform in the article.

AWR93

Mandy your outro here was like when Karl plays a record to get out of telling the wheelie bin story again 🤭😂

davmeltz

If Blackadder came back, I see no reason why they shouldn’t have more diversity in the cast. But Blackadder and Baldrick should always be Rowan Atkinson and Tony Robinson.

irreverend

@Mark I mean for most of the series having an ethnically diverse cast would've made no sense anyway. There weren't many people of colour in British nobility.... well ever really. Certainly not back then. Also not as servants. Even the next series when and where it's set wouldn't really have had much in the way of diversity.

Gary S

If, like myself you’ve ever read very old newspaper archives you can get great amusement from the ‘long S’ looking like an F when they have newspaper adverts about honeysuckle or suckling pigs. Yes, I’m very childish 😀

I-Love-My-Brick

So you have French and Italian ancestry Mandy. Do you have any British ancestry you're aware of? : )

Mandy Cane Lane

I don't think so... but I heard a few times that I may have some Irish blood 🙌🏻✨️

Carl-Fredrik L

This is such a weird episode. I like the episode with the actors 🙂

Josh

What happened to your hand??

Mandy Cane Lane

Haha, it was a bit odd, but isn't that on brand for Blackadder? 🤣🤪

Mandy Cane Lane

I have an eczema flare up that doesn't want to go away 😅. No biggie though, just superficial.

Josh

Stupid eczema 😓

Wagoo

lmao at the naughty Mandy outro 😂 the gesture you did at 1:25 when talking about nobs cracked me up too lol The French revolutionary torturer here was Chris Barrie (Arnold Rimmer from Red Dwarf) and Lord Smedley was Neil from The Young Ones AMAZING work on spotting Le Comte de Frou Frou as being Percy (Lord Topper)! - I never saw through that disguise myself until the big reveal :D I have a recording of myself as a teenager on cassette somewhere trying to do the suspicious sausage dialogue from this episode lol You may find the next episode interesting as you work in a Theatre.. ☺️

Mandy Cane Lane

Haha, so I guess we all have embarrasing footage of when we were kids, huh? I say this because you said "trying" to do the dialogue 🤪

Wagoo

Puberty is rough for boys! We suddenly evolve a whole new voicebox we have to try and work out how to use all over again lol
