Bahahaha! This show is getting sillier and sillier, and I am up for it! It's funny, just today I was watching a show and thinking how unfunny American comedy is. Especially the newer stuff. Yes, of course there are some really funny American shows, but it is just different. Also comedy really declined in the last decade, not sure about in the UK because almost everything I watch is old now that I think of it... I can't really pin point the difference because what I was watching today was just cringy.. but some British shows make cringy so funny. I will also not be disclosing what show it was because everytime I diss shows some people get upset! Haha! Anyway, these are just the ramblings of woman whose RAM is way more random than access to memories...

Happy Halloween lovely humans!!! 🎅🏻🎄☃️🖤

Yay first 😁😁

Nearly. Second like. Happy Halloween Mandy 👻🎃!!! Should have done a stream, but it's okay. You've at least gotta do a dress up for us. Looking forward to the next series. Yes, Hugh and Steven are in it all the way. So far as whether or not to decide if one wants to receive news: My dad always just says to my mum: "Don't worry about it love." Or if he's recieving news: "Nope, not getting involved" 😆🤣 Don't worry about being dirty minded. More fun for us all. 🤭😈 And it's adorable when you can't pronounce stuff. (P.s. I can't roll my Rs either.)

I think recent British comedy (for the most part) has declined too. The rise of internet streaming platforms, more quantity but poorer quality, and the lack of a weekly shared TV viewing experience (at work on Monday everyone would've watched similar things over the weekend when there were only really 4 or 5 TV channels). I think all these things are in part to blame. Obviously people will also blame "wokeness" and stuff, but I really think that's had a minor effect.

Hi Mandy! Yes, Wellingtons, or "Wellies" are boots. I think maybe Americans call them rubber boots or rain boots. They are usually made of rubber or some kind of plastic these days. They are named after the Duke of Wellington after he specified to his boot maker a pair of boots that were simple, practical, and waterproof. Modern ones are different in design and certainly material and are usually worn in very wet or muddy situations such as on farms. But in Wellington's time, they became a bit of a symbol of aristocracy.

irreverend

Also "hopefully they go out with a bang", rather prescient of you there :)

Quite appropriate decoration for a headboard really depending on what you're planning to do in the bed.... However, it is of course supposed to be the 3 feathers of the heraldic badge of the Prince of Wales

Jeffrey44

No, A young man by the name of Joshyboiiiiii achieved first comment. Please don't try to claim credit for his work.

Jeffrey44

You seem to know your wet weather clothing. Could you tell me, what are galoshes and what is a sou'wester?

irreverend

You probably already know this, but all those ancient statues, would've been painted when they were first made. At least I recall reading that some years ago

Tony Mingoia

I suspect you are toying with me, but galoshes are waterproof overshoes. You put them on over your normal shoes. And a sou'wester is a big yellow waterproof hat worn by (stereotypes of) trawlermen.

Josh

You should be ashamed of your dirty disgusting mind. You are lowering the tone of our great comedies, values and way of life. We will not tolerate these insults much longer Madam 😤

This series doesn't exactly fit into a specific time period, however King George III is sometimes known as "The Mad King" as he's supposed to have suffered physical and mental health problems. That's who they're depicting at the end here

BobSandwiches

Don't worry too much about Hugh getting injured - he spent most episodes of A Bit Of Fry And Laurie being fake-punched by Steven Fry. 😁

Lord Peanut

I get the feeling you're going to like Goes Forth a lot more than 2 and 3 🙃

Rauko

Blackadder 4 is peak Blackadder ..

Remi

10:12 as someone who lives in Wales I am extremely offended, on the other hand I'm proud that I have assisted in ruining your innocent mind Cupid stunt Did I get you?

Remi

I know and refering to the Welsh three feathers as three falic shapes, if she keeps this up she'll be waking up in a field full of pissed off sheep

Josh

I agree. I was sick to my stomach at her comments today. She always used to be so innocent and lady like as she liked to say. What a sad day 😢

Remi

King George the third was indeed a cents short a dollar (mad) it's actually quite interesting if you read into it

Spacedone

I think the show provides a comedy stereotype of madness for George III but he did actually suffer illnesses, physical and mental, on and off through his life, although nobody really know what the illness was, and he was officially declared 'mad' for the last 10 years of his life so that his son, Hugh Laurie's character George IV, could take on the role of Regent and rule in his name.

Yoshua Simoleit

The bed decor which you mistook for a 'Kenneth' was in fact a portrayal of ostrich feathers, which are the official royal symbol of the Prince of Wales! The ostrich feathers were originally the symbol of blind king John of Bohemia, who fought with the French against the English at the battle of Crécy in 1346. Even though he was blind he went into battle and was killed, and the Prince of Wales leading the English troops saw this and thought blind king John was very brave, so adopted his symbol and his motto, 'Ich Diene' (or 'I Serve' in English) which remain the official symbols of the Prince of Wales to this day. My ADHD power is memorizing interesting factoids, but it's not good for anything else, so please do humour my historical interjections.

Happy Halloween Mandy 👻🎃

Happy Halloween lovely Mandy!!! (Random emojis goooo!) 🎅🏻🎄☃️👨‍🚀🕺🏻.

Mandy Cane Lane

Haha, left over candy from when? 😅 And rolling R's and trills are basically all the same. Hard to do in Spanish phonetics though, I sometimes mess it up even after 20 years 🤣

Mandy Cane Lane

I love these kinds of comment, so interject away Yoshua! 🩵

Mandy Cane Lane

I wonder what kind of things it took to be declared "mad" in those times 🤔

Muggins

Left over from tonight. 🎃 Can't let good candy go to waste now can I. 🙂 * Ah ya got me.

Mandy Cane Lane

I had no idea that is why they were dubbed "wellies"! 🤗

Mandy Cane Lane

Yes!!! Most famous sculptures and buildings we know as white and beige now, were covered in pigments with vibrant colors!

Mandy Cane Lane

Beds are for sleeping of course, so I guess the decorations don't matter when the candles are out, lol. And I didn't even realise the "go out with a bang" thing! Haha! 🤣🤣

Mandy Cane Lane

I wish I could have streamed!! I have been so busy with apartment hunting I forgot all about Halloween 😅🫣

Gray

What is this deepcut humour or they being serious?

Josh

I got lucky with it but I'm happy you like

Stuart

I don't want to get into politics but the woke and cancel culture has definitely made comedy worse. A lot of Television now feels like forcing a message into the show is more important than entertainment. Also it is obvious that if people are worried about losing their careers for not complying with the latest thinking then that stifles free expression, which is were good ideas come from.

irreverend

@Stuart I mean that has affected things a bit, but the decline began long before that, and I stand by the reasons. It's pretty much impossible to "cancel" something when most of the population enjoy it. That whole concept wouldn't work back in the 90s when TV viewing was more of a shared experience.

irreverend

I didn't know that's why it's the symbol for the Prince of Wales, very interesting, +10 internets for you good Sir

Tony Mingoia

I have more boring anachronisms for you Mandy: Blackadder said that Wellington had triumphed against Napoleon in Spain 6 months ago. That can only refer to the Peninsular War's Battle of Vitoria, of June 1813, dating the setting of the episode to December 1813. That checks out just fine as being during the regency period (1811-1820). Unfortunately, Arthur Wellesley wasn't honoured with the title of Duke of Wellington until sometime during Napoleon's first exile, which started in April of 1814. Until then, he wasn't a Duke, and therefore wasn't known as Wellington. In his letter to George he described himself as "Supreme Commander of Allied forces, Europe". Well I believe that title was not used until it was applied to French Marshall Ferdinand Foch during WW1 in 1918. Wellesley was "merely" a general officer during the Peninsular war. He later held the title Commander-in-Chief of the British Army, but not until 1842, a long long time after this. He held the title until his death in 1852. Lastly, later in the episode they talk about the Battle of Trafalgar as if it hasn't happened yet. Well the Battle of Trafalgar was 1805, long before the Peninsular war. The Duke even says "I'll mention it to Nelson". Nelson died at that battle. It's still funny of course. But I'm a terrible pedant for these things. I'm very much like David Mitchell in that sense. And if you want to learn a little history from this show, I think it's important that someone straightens it out a bit. You'll be glad to know the next series follows the chronology of real events rather more closely as far as I can tell, so I won't have to bore you any more with these. 😅🤗

BobSandwiches

You be the judge 😁🤔 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FpWYDNvl5sU (slight spoilers for Blackadder 4 from exactly on the 3-minute mark to the end so possibly wait until you start series 4 and see who is in it). [Not react-able I think, (certainly not on YouTube for music copyright reasons)]

BobSandwiches

If you were a woman, very little. If you were rich and powerful, it was "excused" - but if you were a King, that made you a liability and so something had to be done (eventually). Modern medicine once suggested that he suffered from the genetic disorder: porphyria, but more recent research suggests that is a misdiagnosis (the medicine he was given turns urine blue, which is also a symptom of porphyria when the urine is exposed to UV light from the sun) and it seems that he possibly suffered from manic-depression. But as Spacedone says, no one really knows for sure what disorder he had, but he very much did have one!

DriveIn

My favourite crossover is when Rachel is flying to London to tell Ross she loves him and Prince George is sat next to her disguised as Hugh Laurie! Also, Mandy raising her hand to speak in her own video always sends me 😁

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahahhaha! I had no idea that was the Prince Regent! I actually thought it was Hugh Laurie... huh. Maybe not so much of a thicky after all to pull off something like that! 🤪

Mandy Cane Lane

Haha, these don't bore me! I imagine for someone who knows their facts, the mix ups and inconsistencies must be even funnier! 🤪

Terje Flågan

I'm quite happy I remember almost nothing from my time with the DVD box set 20-25 years ago. This was so good! And looking forward for Blackadder 4 (I can remember a couple of scenes from that one). Thanks M!

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahahah! You know, more than once in my life have I watched movies or a show for the second time, and it was new to me! Haha, keeps life entertaining I guess! 🤣
