The brick thing seems to come up a lot so I will answer it. It is true that a lot of towns have mostly brick buildings but not everywhere. There are whole towns and cities where the buildings are made from the local stone, or seaside towns which are brightly painted. When brick is used it is often rendered and painted, but because of the weather conditions this won't last long and the maintenance is high. A brick finish just needs repointing every 30 years, so it is mostly practical.

There's quite a few houses around where I live made from slate, almost dry stone walled together. They look very interesting.

I think most people have put 55378008 into a calculator. I certainly have :) @Feisty Steve I haven't gone to a laser tag place in 2 decades, but I was drunk and accidentally hit a 12 year old in the face with my gun last time I went.

Jeffrey44

What a nice thing to say.

Jeffrey44

The music expert who played the keyboard in this episode is Howard Goodall who composed the music for QI and Blackadder.

The Albert Hall joke pertains to an old song about Hitler only having one ball, the other is in the Albert Hall.

Yeah the red bricks are commonly found in England, Belgium, Netherlands, Northern Germany, and Denmark. Those are sort of the Red Brick areas of Europe, all in one sort of corner of Europe. I live in Scotland and there are some but it's not as prominent here as in the North of England in particular. I love playing Geoguessr, that game where you are plonked somewhere on google street view and you have to guess where you are, so red brick buildings are a big clue.

Josh

The second picture of Sherlock Holmes was played by the actor Jeremy Brett who was my nan's cousin. He sadly died in 1995

Jeffrey44

That friendly train that you initially mistakenly believed you recognised as "George" was in fact Thomas the Tank Engine. Thomas was a character from the British TV show Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends which was narrated by Ringo Starr from the popular band The Beatles. American Television took the footage from Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends and added live action scenes to it also featuring Ringo Starr and later George Carlin. That's Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends (or Shining Time Station as an American would say). You may also be interested to know that "Tommy Tank" is rhyming slang.

Tee Tee

Glad you returned to this, I'd seen a few clips on YT but the full episodes are so much more fun. 👍

Remi

24:10🤣 he's not fixing his fly, he's handcuffed and shackled

Stevus

I know I'm a bit late, but I read a book about Laser Quest. Not bad.

Remi

My favourite creation from Dickens was cider, I love Dickens cider, Mandy do you like Dickens cider?

Jeffrey44

This doesn't really work without a third party female to refer to. Traditionally, it's "my wife". "My wife loves nothing more than to end the day with a Dicken's Cider" for example.

Stevus

OK, not funny, but I need to clear something up that one of the interviewees said. Charles Darwin did NOT believe that humans evolved from monkeys. That's something that Christian Apologists say to be misleading. Humans, as well as other great apes, and monkeys, share a COMMON ANCESTOR (sorry for yelling that at you). Monkeys are like cousin species to us. Now, I imagine you don't even remember the bit that I'm correcting, but as it seems to be a quite common misconception, I thought it prudent, just in case.

Stevus

I 'liked' your comment, but to be clear, I was only 'liking' the first sentence.

Sadbnnuy

Sad it was glossed over but then again it's not an actual documentary. Queen Elizabeths funeral in 1901 was probably one of the first major kickstarts for the film and TV broadcast era. Apart from her Jubilee procession in 1897 saw by 3 million people it was one of the first big royal events recorded😌 I know your time is short but I do think some QI episodes or maybe a short documentaries could be fun now and then. I understand if you want to keep the Patreon comedy oriented. Loving Taskmaster reactions too❤️

Josh

It's all good Stevus 👍

It Was Jessica Fletcher

Thanks, brilliant reaction I think your idea of the experts being angry is possibly explained as not quite as harsh and them being angry is not necessarily as it may appear in this interview about the Philomena Cunk character, recorded at the BFI, with Dianne Morgan and head writer Charlie Brooker. https://youtu.be/uZ-5eOD57Ss

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

Not gonna let the Brick thing go are you? 🤣 Trust me Mandy, they look so much better than concrete. We do paint them in some places but Bricks don't really need painting to last. And you'll notice there's different coloured bricks used to draw little shapes and designs into the work. You'll also find in hilly areas of especially Yorkshire, Scotland and the Cotswolds, that houses are built of a creamy coloured quarried stone. 08:30: If you're wondering what Mr Men are it's an old Children's book series, my mum had a full collection. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Men 09:10 Jane Austin is indeed on the money. That particular one is a £10 note. The value is written on the top right corner but we generally differentiate them by colour. £5 is green, £10 is orange, £20 is purple and £50 is red. With that they've also got imprinted brail on them to help the visually impaired. 33:16 Our friend Gluteus making another appearance there, and the rest. 8008135 🤭

Julian

Absolutely. I hate when creationists will say ‘if we evolved from monkeys, how come there are still monkeys?’ They think that’s a serious question, it’s mind boggling.

Julian

I concur. I paused the video and came here to defend bricks. I don’t think there’s anything to be gained from covering them up.

2026-09-23 20:00 At 31:15, the figure to me looks like Jeff Vader offering Dickens cake or death, and he turned down the cake. :) When Philomena was at the ballot box, she put a cross on all of the entries and ticked the top one. Then the camera shows a notice saying "Only put an X in one box" or words to that effect. This was great. If she was real, she'd be a perfect pick for Karl on a dating app. :) Can't wait for the next ep already!

It's pretty rare to paint over brickwork in Aus too. Why would you want to cover up all the lovely earthy hues of the bricks!? And anyway, paint is typically used as protective coating for whatever material it happens to be painted on. Bricks don't usually require that. Mmmmm bricks

Jonathan Davies

Mandy and her Brick agenda is starting to get nasty now! We don’t want to paint our bricks Mandy stop judging us for it! 😂😂😂😂

Jonathan Davies

Chris Packham (the guy who she had the monkey conversation with) is a very famous tv presenter of Nature type shows and a massive animal rights activist! One of my Hero’s 🙏

Josh

Stop picking on our bricks!!! We will not tolerate this abuse much longer lady!!!!

It Was Jessica Fletcher

8008135? Surely if you are going to turn it upside down the 8008 goes *last* ie 5318008

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

Tbh, we didn't really feel the need in our year. We were giggling whichever way up it was 🤣

Benjamin Taylor-Yates

Curious to see if Randy Mandy can figure out what "Tommy Tank" stands for 🤣

BobSandwiches

So... I just tried what the History professor absolutely never did (no honestly, never, ever, ever did) and typed 5318008 into the calculator on my phone, but, when I turned it upside down, the screen just rotated and made it the right way up again! Bloddly modern technology! And, Oy! Leave our bricks alone! That building Philomena was walking past was five hundred years older than the USA and is still standing thanks to the British bricks it is faced with; each one lovingly hand-crafted from the finest Shropshire clay by indentured craftsmen with 20+ years experience; the bricks fired in kilns using gold-plated coal with the mortar holding them together mixed by the treading of the feet of only the fairest young women (all under the age of 19) from the surrounding towns and villages. * How very dare you! * Mind you, I have a bad cold and just woke from a dream, so now I think of it, I may have that description a little mixed up with the fever-dream I just had. It is just possible...

KevinM

Great reaction! Couldn't disagree more with you about bricks though. I'm genuinely sad when I see a house with painted over bricks, it just flattens and dulls all the character of the building.

Carl-Fredrik L

Wait, i thought you already reacted to this ?? Or am i trippin

Carl-Fredrik L

I would love to watch Karls reaction to this show. And tell Ricky and Steve about it

Carl-Fredrik L

No but he would have his own warped retelling of what he learned from her. So many layers!

Kirk Deighton

the music guy she interviews in this was the guy that did the weird music for the blackadder credits.

Industrialist2015ofUk

yea she's an expert actress for sure. British America i think is what Canada was called between 1600's and 1930s. but the empire spanned over half the world!

Mandy Cane Lane

I hope I didn't mess it up! Haha, wouldn't be the first time, but I think this is correct 🤭

Mandy Cane Lane

Thank you Kevin! And I get that, but I personally don't like the color bricks have. I love when people paint each individual brick green or blue and leave the grout. Don't see it much though because it takes forever 😅

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahahha! Fair argument, I shall leave the bricks alone 😅

Mandy Cane Lane

Oh brilliant! Not enough of those in the world! 🙌🏻

Mandy Cane Lane

Oh cool! I never knew they had faces on both sides! Also trippy that they are different sizes. 🤭 I did know about the shield in the coins, that is really cool. Thank you Liam! 🤗✨️

Mandy Cane Lane

Oh yay! GAME ON! 1) hmmmm...... Will Ferrel? 🤔 2) Scooter! 3) 9 seasons 4) Bob Sagget 5) Neil Patrick Harris, Alison something.... that is all I got. 😬 6) 2 a.m.! 7) She sat on cake 🤣 8) 22? 9) Ted EVELYN Mosby! More like Shmosby! 10) 🦋 I think I did pretty good 😎

Mandy Cane Lane

Hahaha! Everyone is misunderstanding the brick thing! I have nothing against bricks per se. I dislike lack of color. I don't like concrete either. But the world lacks color! I also personally do not like the color of bricks, so rather them be colored. But the world is too grey 😔 (and brick colored in some parts 🤭)

Mandy Cane Lane

I do really like QI! I just don't have enough time for everything, so I am trying to cycle stuff and stay as organised as possible 😅

Mandy Cane Lane

Thank you for apologising for yelling at me. It is important to be able to own up to mistakes 🤪

>>156973098

Anyway isnt it problema? Are you even a real latina? 🤪🤪🤪

>>156973098

I wasn't trying to be rude. FIFY 👑

Josh

Quiz results 1. Don't be silly ya tit 😂😂 it's actually behzinga himself Jim Parsons 2,3 and 4 all ✅ although it's saget but I'll let you off 😂 5. You also could have had cobie smulders, Josh Radnor, Jason segal and the surname you're after is hannigan 6 and 7 ✅ 8. Barney was 23 to a woman called Rhonda 9 and 10 are correct I believe that's 8 out of 14? You definitely did do good 😂 feel like it was easy but if I made it harder it would be way too hard, seems to be no middle ground

Mandy Cane Lane

Haha! Dang it, I knew some of the actors names after all! Also debated whether it was Saget or Sagget 🤣. 23! So close! That was great fun and tbh I did better than I expected 🤪

Josh

Josh

kristian turner
