You made my whole month by choosing to react to this! It’s one of my favorite movies of all time. I grew up watching this, it’s very nostalgic, and special to me. Thank you so much! ❤️ I literally can’t wait to get home to watch this! Thank you!

Maisie

Oooo I have never seen this! Excited to watch it with you.

Amanda P

And we're getting it today????? Holy shit I'm so happy

Angel

I’ve never even heard of this, although I am Gen-Z 🫣 Excited to watch though, it looks fun! 😊

Vol

Ah, can't wait to watch your reaction! Hoping you enjoyed it, I love this movie, its really nostalgic for me!

Megan

I love this movie. Funny story, I could only remember the ghost/star badge scene. I watched this a ton as a kid and wanted to watch it as an adult. No one knew what I was talking about as I described that full scene. My mom said I was crazy lol. I finally found the movie after years of searching and made her watch the full scene. The following year, ABC Family added it to their permanent 13 days of Halloween line up. 😆😆😆

Ronika

i hope you watch charmed (1998) someday!

Michelle

This was so much fun. Y'all absolutely made my week. Thanks guys.

Amanda P

At the end Sally says "was it our joined hands that broke Maria's curse?" So the towns women finally accepting the Owens women was the true message of it, breaking the curse of love and also acceptance. It's one of my fave movies of all time

Arion Floyd

Trust me, nearly every girl wants to be a witch lol

JenVonLee

Funny you should say that about the Midnight Margaritas scene. They DID in fact just get trashed and have a party and it was recorded. Nicole puked in the sink.

I'm Batman

I enjoyed this movie, wasn't sure what I was in store for but it was a good amount of fun. it did become a bit jarring for me in terms of the tonal shifts within the movie but at the end of the day I still had fun with this. Gonna recommend this to my roommate who's like my 2nd mom and her daughter, both love Sandra and since this isn't super dark or anything they'll enjoy it no doubt. For me I'll give it a 3.75/5.

DreamCanopy

I’ve been a huge fan of the channel over the years, but I can’t help but be disappointed in this one. I’d wish you all guys would have watched it with the mindset of grace and open-mindedness that you all normally offer pretty much every other content on your channel. Thank you so much Mason Quinn for at least giving it a fair shot and keeping up the kindness and professionalism! Films like the original 'Ghostbusters' are absurd, stupid and terrible-looking when looked at with today’s eyes, as well as for everyone who was never a fan and has no nostalgia attached to them… But we still address those movies with respect, because we understand that they were important at the time and that they have meant a lot to a lot of people. We always want you to be honest in your opinions and comments about everything you watch. But being completely dismissive from the get-go does not make an enjoyable experience for most watchers. After all, it’s mainly the fans of this movie that will watch the reaction! Oak seemed not to want to watch this movie from minute 0! You guys certainly don't need to all like or even enjoy this film, but it could have been watched rather than hate-watched from before it even started. Knowing that a lot of people recommended you this with eagerness and excitement should have been enough to at least keep a kind and engaged attitude to give it a fair watch (rather than sheer dismissal and scorn), so that your fans would have had the opportunity to at least enjoy the experience of sharing something they love with you. Women’s love for this film, in particular, goes beyond mere brainless enjoyment. The themes of womanhood, freedom, acceptance, sisterhood and resistance to misogynistic hate and violence come wrapped in a fun, cosy and romantic package that makes women and girls feel seen, while keeping it a lighthearted and fun time. The thoughtless dismissal of it and the superficiality of the review just come across as tone-deaf and insensitive, and as a dismissal of all the people who were excited to watch it with you and to have your legit analysis on it. I was saddened to see Oak jokingly say that he had just ‘one note’ on this film. I assure you, every woman who has experienced fear and violence in this world has thousands.

I absolutely love this movie, it is so much fun. There's not many films that focuses on sibling relationships and I love the sister bond in this, Sandra and Nicole had great chemistry together. I honestly can't hear the song You Were Always On My Mind without thinking about this movie, lol. And I always loved that it was the bond of the sister's and the other women that finally broke the curse. I've always loved the music as well.

Cristy

OMG the make out scene reaction was hilarious! Thanks for always making me smile, fellas. I love this movie but know it isn't for everyone. Nicole and Sandra have such great chemistry so I'm excited for the upcoming sequel.

Maria Sauceda

So the sequel is real. Practical Magic is actually based on a book and there are 4 books in the series and it goes through the generations. Practical Magic was the first one to be written but if you read them in timeline order it’s 3rd. The first was about Maria Owens in the 1600s and the second book is about the Aunts in the 70s and 80s and the 3rd is Sally and Gillian and the 4th is about her daughters. The sequel will be the forth book. It has already finished filming I believe. This movie is a fall staple for many women, a yearly rewatch for sure. The way you guys were all screaming at the kiss was hilarious. This was a nice surprise for October 1st.

Adrianna Marie Aka AD

I love seeing the movie with fresh eyes through yall. Rewatching with yall has been such a nice treat. Thank you 😊

I really appreciate how this channel includes female focused films, every month, unlike some reactors. In this case I would especially like to thank Mason Quinn and Answer for going into this one with open minds, willing to give it a fair go, and appreciating the fun aspects, while being honest that it’s not particularly their preferred type of film. Still, this reaction was kind of spoiled for me by Oak. It’s a sentimental favourite for many of us, who appreciate movies that show women coming together to support each other against dv, sisters or not. A personal opinion, of course, and I can see others were fine with the reaction. This is just my own personal take.

Knightmare

I'm still too stuck on Dreamgirls to take this seriously 😂 Everytime somebody said Jimmy's name "Jimmy wants more" popped into my head for a good 5 minutes

Heathwitch

Soooo… This is my favourite movie, and when I saw you had reacted to it I instantly resubbed. Practical Magic was hugely impactful on me in 1998, and, as a practising Witch myself, I enjoyed that it took a more serious (and realistic) approach to most of the Witchcraft shown. (Side note: Mason Quinn, how do you know what realistic Witchcraft looks like, anyway, given you mentioned it at the end?!) This film was also massive in my coven at the time (“Shrew! Ingrate! Good-Two-Shoes! Witch!” Always brought out the smiles), and among my friend group as well. I have also read the book - - back then, it was a standalone, but now it’s part of a quartet which covers Maria’s story, the aunts’ history, and events after Practical Magic itself. I would say that the book Practical Magic is darker than the movie, and quite a few things were changed to lighten it for the cinema, so the movie is more inspired-by, rather than based-on, the book, in my opinion. I appreciate that you enjoyed this movie and saw your scores at the end (thank you in particular, Oak), but I do wish it had not been described as “silly” — this was/is a very empowering film for those who have gone through DV, and/or those who have found a home in Witchcraft (40+ years for me). A little less jokey behaviour and a little more listening would have been appreciated, because this is something of a cult classic now and has a very loyal fan base. There are some goofs in this movie that always make me laugh, though; for instance, when Sally and Gilly are lifting Jimmy onto the kitchen table, it magically clears itself of all the items on it from cut to cut in that scene. In the close-up of Gary’s eyes when he and Sally are on the bed, one flickers from green to blue and back again (I think bad lighting or poor CGI?). I also do think Sally bumping her head in the kitchen was a blooper that they ran with! In terms of the Witchcraft elements, most of them are quite accurate: the grimoire, the use of blood in some Witchcraft traditions, the power of symbols and belief, circles of power, chanting, and so on. The herb lore is also on point, and no, they did not replace ingredients during the making of the syrup: Nigella is also known as Blessing Seeds. 😉 The sequel is actually happening is filming/has just wrapped up as we speak; most of the cast are returning (thank the Gods, because I need more Aunt Frances in my life: she’s my favourite in both the books and the movie). I believe they’ve had to re-build the structure of the house — sadly, it’s not a real home (though many of us fans would love to live there), but rather a structure built just for the movie and then torn down after the first film was completed. The interiors in particular have been very popular over the years and quite a few articles written about their architecture and style. The costuming, too, is very much an aesthetic that folks still emulate to this day on socials and in real life. And the film is a popular one on the Witchy socials, in terms of trends and styles and vibes as a whole. I am so glad you reacted to this (but I wish it’d had a little more reverence and less jokey attitude), and hopefully you’ll give the sequel a kinder try when it comes out. For me, this movie has high watchability (and I can quote it start-to-finish), and the books are immensely (re-)readable too. I do like how both are deeply understanding and respectful of Witchcraft and Earth-based religions as a whole, and show how magic can be used for good or bad, depending on the user (I would be tempted to quote Lirio from The Craft here, but I won’t) and circumstance, as well as how things can go wrong when it’s not taken seriously or folks dabble. It’s still a fun movie but it’s deeper than that for many of us.

Heidi Louise

lol Quinn “she smokes too” oh mans, we all smoked in we all 90’s.

Jade Lastra

One of my favorite facts about the house is that it doesn't actually exist. The exterior was built for the movie itself. When the movie came out, Barbara Streisand got in contact with the studio to ask how they'd sell the house for. Unfortunately not only was it just exterior but after they wrapped filming the house was torn down. So anyone who visits the island will not be able to see it. (I think they filmed on an island near Washington, but not fully sure).

Lauren

I would love it if the guys watched Steel Magnolias.

Aria Isara

This one had been in my watchlist for years! Entertaining, but yeah kind of all over the place (which usually isn't something that bothers me much). So I overall agree with your reviews. For me, the 90s witchcraft movie that is still a banger is The Craft, saw it back then late 90s when I was in middle school, loved it, rewatched it last year and it was still very enjoyable. Obviously I get that people who saw this one back then or when they were younger would have a preference for this one. I'm gonna check though if The Craft is on the website, if not I'll add it 😁

Ronny H

I enjoyed the reaction, one of my favorite movies. And I have no business loving the soundtrack as much as I do 😍 introduced me to Joni Mitchell

ElmSt Reactions

I do like this movie and have to say that the amount of hate from Oak all throughout the reaction was annoying me, just hating on scenes and random stuff for no reason. Also wish I was a detective that got to fall in love with Sandra bullock on the job

Miya

I'm not sure how I missed that you all had reacted to this one! It's one of my favorites. I've also read the book. I will say that the movie is a bit all over the place in terms of tone, but the themes and topics represented are very heavy. This is a movie about sisterhood, self-acceptance, breaking generational curses/cycles, surviving intimate partner violence, and healing from trauma (i.e., death of a parent, death of a spouse, etc.) . I'm not an IPV/DV survivor, but I can see why this film, where the abuser gets his comeuppance and law enforcement sides with the victim, is so well-liked by survivors. I think it's really easy to get caught up in the "hokey" bits like the love story between Sally and Hallett, as well as the dated CGI, and overlook these deeper themes. With that said, I'm glad you all had fun watching this one!
