I love how right away Diamond Dave has his “I’m not mad, just disappointed” look.

Bro this episode and the peacemaker one from yesterday has me like WTF is going. I'm so disappointed in Beom-Seok right now.

Beom-seok's actions this episode is absolutely inexcusable (not only he harmed Soo-ho's physically by damaging his moped, he also hurt his livelyhood - that moped is Soo-ho's work transport after all). But I want to point out a few psychological nuances which make Beom-seok's way of thinking clearer for us (again - not excusing his actions, just simply understanding the motives there). 1. Beom-seok spent time in the orphanage which has its own influence on child's psyche and denigrates his feelings of empathy. His stepfather made it worse by adapting him for political gains which made it clear for young Beom-seok that his whole life is transactional (he's just a pawn in slimy politician hands - getting roof under the head, good welfare in exchange of making his stepfather's political image; there's no love in that family and Beom-seok clearly means nothing to his adapted family - since nobody intervents into the house abuse). His little dialogue with Young Yi later this episode just underlines how greatly the stepfather corrupted Beom-seok's perception of reality. No wonder that Beom-seok seeks the popularity, safety, power to dominant because it was all he got from his sick adapted family. 2. It was Gil-soo (rewatch the police station scene in EP4) who incept the idea of Beom-seok being a lackey to his friends. While Gil-soo, of course, the criminal who have no credibility, it was obvious by Beom-seok's facial impressions that these words did hurt him. Beom-seok as the victim of school bulliying and home abuse already had weak psyche which is very easy to manipulate (his new "friends" also just made his anger more fiery by their remarks about Soo-ho). 3. While Soo-ho never did anything that would hurt Beom-seok, you kinda can see moments of Soo-ho's dominant behavior (look at how he basically leads Shi-eun everywhere; how he wraps his hand around Beom-seok's neck - it's common for abused people to feel discomfort from physical touching especially when it's done in a such abrupt, dominant way). The kitchen scene is not just Beom-seok trying to stand up to Soo-ho posing before his new "friends"; it's more of getting fed up with people telling him what to do (how his stepfather beats him because his adapted son behaving "the wrong way"). Everything in Beom-seok's behavior past and this episodes stems from classic consequences of being abused and dictated by others his whole life (orphanage, adapted family, schools, inner circle). It doesn't excuse his actions in any way, but it makes all things (as Oak said) "very relatable". Instead of immediately picturing Beom-seok as a bad guy, the series paid a lot of careful attention to the details in his slow and inevitable transformation from bullied person into another bully. Yes, not all bullied people hurt other people in retalation, but different people have different psyche's development after regular abuse at home and outside of it. I think that Weak Hero is one of best written show, it has so much depth to its characters and isn't afraid to makes things very complex for its audience. Great piece of art, no notes.

31:30 — “I’m not worry anymore” — Mason Quinn doesn’t learn from your mistakes with this show 😅

Don't know if anyone wants to read my 2 cents but just in case 😅 I haven't gone through things as extreme as Beom Seok and didn't take a bad turn like him (it's my 1st watch so haven't seen beyond this ep), but as someone who has been bullied AND had a bad situation at home, I feel like I understand his character. I'm not mad at him. Unpopular opinion I guess but I think he hasn't crossed the line yet although he's pretty much standing on it (cutting the brakes was indirect, and he didn't look proud of himself after). The way I understand his psyche, he has low self esteem + he always expects the worse, so the little voice in his head was telling him there's no way these guys are true friends, it's too good to be true, and it led him to self sabotage the friendship. Self sabotaging is typical of people with low self esteem coming from past trauma. He also has a lot of bottled up anger and sadly he's unleashing it on the wrong person. In the writing and acting I see signs that he's aware what he's doing is wrong so hopefully he ends up making the right choices.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is no redemption for Beom-seok, looking at the poster for the series that they have on the TV and at the top of this post, it looks like a photograph that has been torn up to remove Beom-seok.
