Yea I agree with the guys here I always found Tarzan enjoyable but by no means is it even in my top 5 Disney films there just alot more Disney films I like over Tarzan definitely in 90’s era Disney I would say the scores were pretty fair imo

John Fellios

The November Disney film needs to be Beauty and The Beast. Mason needs to see it.

MarisoL

Clayton was a great villain, even though his death was startling. It's a 4.4 for me

Gambit3838

ACADEMY AWARD WINNING SOUNDTRACK RIGHT HERE. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SHOW TEMU DOM IN THE MIDDLE THERE CONGO. If Oak had to watch Terrifier, Quinn has to watch Congo. It's only fair. Lol

PKKite

Loss happens in real life and in art. To never let a child see or know of sadness and loss ever is stunting in how to handle it vs teaching imo Millions of kids grew up watching this movie or bambie, lion king, ect not all entertainment is meant to just turn your mind off and enjoy. Lessons are baked in.

I think I still have my McDonalds happy meal toy from this lol. Good times.

Oak: ''Did we really need to get rid of Kerchak at the end?'' I mean, Kerchak got shot, and realistically, there’s no one in the jungle who could perform life-saving surgery or a blood transfusion on a gorilla. On top of that, he’s very old, so recovery from such an injury would be nearly impossible. While Kerchak’s death wasn’t strictly necessary, it serves an important narrative purpose and conclusion. It shows Tarzan stepping into the leadership role, with Kerchak fully accepting him and “passing the torch,” so to speak. Trusting him with the protection of their family. It also reinforces that, even though Tarzan is human, his true place is in the jungle with his adoptive family; not in England with 'his kind'. Also, no way you guys gave a lower score to Tarzan than you did on the Minecraft movie xD It is what it is I guess.

Gambit3838

Sorry big guy but did you forget you were watching a Disney animated movie? Remember the first rule of Disney: ALWAYS HAVE A PARENT KILLED ON/OFF CAMERA. His parents when he was a baby didn't count because the bodies were discovered. You gotta have a tragedy be shown even if in shadow. Disney is run by sick sons of bytches.

As a child in the 90s, I am glad these movies didn’t stray from hard topics. It’s part of our childhood and taught us that life wasn’t always sunshine and rainbows. Lots of kids don’t get to have these conversations with their own parents, so unfortunately movies and books are the teachers.

Walker 4IB

I think its easy to remember Disney films as "just kids movies" with fun songs and jokes, but almost all of them from this time come with a strong moral message attached, and at least for me, I remember my parents using them as ways to start having these conversations with me about tough subjects. The loss of Kerchak and Tarzan growing up to be his own man, is one of those things. Also, George of the Jungle is just a "legally distinct" version of Tarzan used to make a spoof comedy movie.

sarina

My first memory of being alive is dancing to “Son of Man” in my childhood living room. This movie is so special 🥰 This is my favorite Disney movie! It definitely pushed the boundaries and I love it just as much as 29 as i did at 3 ☺️

Tarzan is one of my favourite Disney animated movies. In fact, I’d say if I separate the Disney Princess movies then Tarzan is a close second to The Lion King for me, with Lilo & Stitch coming in third. I love how those movies never strayed away from hard hitting topics like grief and loss. It teaches kids empathy and that these emotions are universal. Tarzan in particular with its themes of identity and self-acceptance teaches kids that just because someone may look or act a little different doesn’t mean they should be othered.

Halima

I think Kerchak’s death was thematically necessary. Kerchak believed from the very first moment he saw Tarzan that he would put their family in danger, so it wasn’t enough for Kerchak to simply accept Tarzan as one of the apes. Leaving his family in Tarzan’s hands is the ultimate show of trust. It also forces Tarzan, who’d been pretty goofy and lax throughout the movie, to accept responsibility by taking care of and leading the apes, thus truly becoming one of them.

Tom Murray

If an important 'good guy' dies, even the Disney Animations from this era made it a point that they learn their lessons or make amends before they go, and they go with go intentions. Kerchek realizes that there was a gray area between "two worlds" where "one family" can exist, even if his high sense of protectiveness was warranted. Clayton on the other hand, had no such redeeming moments or lessons before he went. This is like y'alls 4th animated Disney movie on this channel from this era on this channel? And a first time watch for most of y'all? Were too old yourselves when they came out but didn't have the kids around yet? Buckle up guys, this gets intense with some of these movies. Wanna check out Anastasia or All Dogs Go To Heaven next? Oak will flip

Breeannaaaaa

Oak, I feel you. I stopped watching this movie long ago because of Clayton. Had to watch with you guys though! Also, Disney did so much behind the scenes on this movie as promo on the Disney channel. I believe they got Tarzans foot work through the trees from studying Tony Hawk.

LadyReignOfDreams

LOL Watching the intro to the video as I type and I'm dying because guys remember movies from the 90s and before are not softies like today LOL That's why most of us in our mid 30s and up laugh at trauma now versus the youngins (no offense) LOL. Wait until you see the other films..... LOL

Bri

I was today years old when I found out that President Fitz from Scandal, aka Tony Goldwyn, voiced Tarzan. I'm actually shook lmao. I love him!

Seelia

Tony Goldwyn has the most sexy voice ever...he made Tarzan the sexiest cartoon for me. 😂🤣 And...I hated him in Ghost! 😂

TJ Nguyen

Great movie, excellent and subtle messages about colonialism and greed, and, or course, the very best soundtrack of any Disney movie ever thanks to Phil Collins. The Hunchback will always be my fave overall, but you can't beat Phil Collins.

Raquelly Reacts

The movie, was really good but yeah I wouldn’t place it at top 10. There’s just other ones I really love more. I’m surprised that you’re surprised at how dark it was. Times are different I guess. We grew up with dark movies like these movies that were just more mature and loved them. I agree for me it’s not one of the best soundtracks. I honestly don’t get it, sorry 😬 I mean the songs were good don’t get me wrong but idk about out of this world or the best soundtrack. It really was more of a background thing. There’s just a lot more Disney songs that are better. The messaging and lessons are really good I can appreciate that. it’s a beautiful story about figuring out where you belong. The visuals are stunning. Also I agree the comedy is meh not the funniest, not the most emotional for me tbh but still really solid! I can appreciate it.

Super Fan Sophie

Lol you’ll be okay to watch this with your kid Oak 😂, kids dont see these movies the same way we do, this movie was on repeat for me when i was a kid and i never even noticed the parent’s bodies in the beginning or Clayton’s shadow/what that implied 🤣. Only when i was an adult did i finally “SEE” all the significance, (and my reaction was “holy shit” 🤣) and since you all are seeing and thinking about it from an adult’s perspective its seems way darker than it is from a child’s pov lol. Also! Disney shows death all the time yall 🤣 but most of the time its the bad guys dying haha. Kercheck’s death imo was just a story device, “dont wait to tell someone you care about them”. Glad yall mentioned the animation tho! It’s absolutely fantastic! Making use of some early CGI with all those sliding on branches scenes, probably why kids watch it on repeat lol, its almost hypnotic 😂. Also it makes sense why you didnt like the soundtrack that much. Hearing it today it probably sounded so cliche lol. I do think the lyrics really add to the story but of course yall couldn’t really listen bc of how the YT vids need to be. Hope yall will watch on your own again! 😊

Emily G

It’s not one of my favorite Disney movies but the soundtrack is so so nostalgic of my childhood! Plus, my mom’s song for me has always been You’ll be in my heart. It was fun to watch this with you guys though.

na

Loved this reaction, you could tell the guys were enjoying it throughout the video and how emotionally invested they were in the story at the very end! It’s so interesting to see people experience these movies without any nostalgia attached and talk honestly about it! It brings up some points of view I’ve never thought about because I grew up with all these movies so they all have a special place in my heart!

na

P.S. Oak’s discussions at the end of some videos where he, in his own words, “talks himself out of a bad review” are one of the reason I love watching till the end of videos 😂

TheBlade

Great reaction keep doing what yall do and being genuine and honest it’s one of the reason I subbed on YT and here on Paetron that and the great energy of course. Love the different opinions and discourse you guys are awesome. Tarzan a top 5 Disney movie for me but it doesn’t have to be that way for everyone. Keep crushing it!!!

enyo96

This is my favorite Disney movie of all time. I love that it shows how strong a mothers love can be. Tarzan IS Kala's baby no matter how different he looks. I love this movie so much...also thank you Phil Collins for making me cry every time I watch this! lol

hex1c

Only the second time in my life i've seen this movie now. It hit different when you're an adult. Maybe you could react to the Tarzan movie with Alexander Skarsgård in the future as well :)

Z

I thought that I should let you know that was a leopard not a jaguar, as jaguars do not exist in Africa.

07raluca

Great reaction! Please “The Legend of Tarzan” (2016) next, maybe?

Liona N

Can someone tell me Where does this whole but “it’s a kids movie” thing come from anyway. Kids movies even kids books etc have always been more than just fluffy entertainment films ( at least the good ones that are enjoyed through many generations) but used as a way to teach kids about morality etc and to warn them about dangers in the world. Also Death is a natural part of life.

imcalledgpk

Oh my goodness, I didn't think that I'd ever see Oak so angry at the end of a movie.

Chelsea McCurry

This movie hit much harder for me as an adult than a kid. As a racial minority, the part where Tarzan and his mother have the discussion about their similarities more than their differences really hit home. No matter what we look like on the outside, we're all the same inside and we're all important with so much worth. If everyone had the same mindset as Kala, the world would certainly be a better place:)

I'm Batman

Still remember going to the south end movie theater with my dad and little brother to see this. Our dad picked us up for our weekend stay and surprised us by taking us to our drive-in. Sitting on top of his station wagon watching this, top 10 best memory for me, will never forget it. Just had to bring that up before I watch this reaction. And although I much would've preferred Aladdin to win (in my opinion has the most complete story by the end of the trilogy of any Disney cartoon) I'm glad to watch this and just reminisce on my time with my dad and this movie.

Gem

To Oak, I promise it's ok. I watched this film when it came out and I would have been 5 years old. I never saw the hanging reflection in the tree trunk, just more comprehended that Clayton had died. The fact that Kerchak didn't make it was a good learning point that not everything always has a happy ending and for most children, won't be too traumatic. I always found the beginning with the leopard and the baby gorilla actually more sad. And yeah, Phil really didn't need to go this hard on the soundtrack!

I'm Batman

Great reaction guys, and I'm glad Oak was able to talk through his disliking of the ending so that it wouldn't impact his score too much. I can totally understand also that the music might not be for everyone, personally I love the soundtrack, one of the most iconic, but it's okay that we differ on that opinion. I would agree with Answer though in that I don't hold this higher than some of my personal favorites like Aladdin, (hoping y'all watch the trilogy one day) The Lion King, Toy Story, etc but it's still an amazing movie.

Tania Morales

The thing with Phil Collin’s soundtrack, is that he sang it in a lots of languages, in my case when I rewatch animated movies with you guys, I always watched it in my language (Spanish) for nostalgia, and this song (you’ll be in my heart) was and is super special for lot of kids (now adults) in my country cause it was so beautifully written and when we heard it reminds our moms

fares

if you approach the phil collins music in a memed ironic way, it's hard to take it seriously, but if you watched it without that awareness, it slaps

Isabelle V.

I would actually place Tarzan as a top 5 Disney animated movie for me. The music plays a huge role as it’s perfectly made and suited for the movie. It guides you through the story and adds layers of emotion, understanding, and connection. You’ll be in my heart has to be one of my favorite songs of all time as well. I have a strong emotional connection to it. I was a kid who loved Disney movies that had songs I loved too. So if I loved the music, I’d also love the movie. But that’s bc music is life to me. Of course I love the story and the characters as well but with the music, the movie is elevated to a top 5 movie for me. Theres only a few Disney animated movies I don’t mind not really having a soundtrack which include Brave and Finding Nemo bc the stories are well written and executed. But hell no I wouldn’t put Toy Story or Aladdin over Tarzan, I heavily disagree but to each their own😅

Kuha Mo

Oh Oak, the movie's called Tarzan, not Kerchak 😂. Us who grew up with Disney movies are used to deaths in these movies. This is even mild compared to Lion King 😂

Haley Hrncir

Late to the party but I have a lot of fun rewatching movies from my childhood with y"all! Most of my friends don't live in the same city, so the idea of watching a movie with your friends' commentary is such a joy and I am glad for you channel <3

Julie Cortez

Hey Oak! There’s a few comments that pretty much sum up my experience watching this movie so I will try to spare u the long and repetitive comments 😂 I was exposed to adult themes at a young age. Long story short, I was abt 6 or 7 when I watched this movie for the first time (Also watched the lion king and Titanic around that time 😂) and the adult themes in those movies never bothered me. If anything it actually made me more emotional mature than a lot of the kids in my grade. I was always told by adults that I was very mature for my age. I understand that some of those themes may be somewhat inappropriate and u want to help ur son process some things and that’s okay. No one should ever have a say in ur parenting style. However, in regard to the lessons, this is the type of movie where there really isn’t a lesson but it’s more of a story. And tbh not every movie needs to have a lesson. I think this is more of a mother-son relationship thing. It really shows that just bc u didn’t give birth to a baby that doesn’t mean ur not their mother. Btw “You’ll be in my heart” was actually played at my cousin’s wedding as a dance between her husband and his mom. It was so cute. 🥰 but yeah man, that’s pretty much it. Also, I can see that u are an awesome dad and ur son is blessed to have u guide him!

Brandi Torres

I remember seeing this movie in theaters, and it is the second time that I've ever cried at a movie, in public as a teenager. And that was at the very beginning of the movie when that baby gorilla dies. The first being the lion, King. Both of those movies still bring me to tears when I watch them.. The music, the score, it pierces your heart.

Zeke

When Disney had the balls to push the boundaries these are the results you get. Amazing story telling and a lot of emotions. Hoping Disney makes a comeback when it comes to animated film making. The last couple of years they’re movies have been flops imo.

Ginger

I would agree with Answer’s vote of 3.5. This movie, imo, was just ok. A nice message for families with adopted kids.

Lydia S

Us 90s kids can deal with character deaths, my dear oak, were fine Tarzan is a masterpiece and there will never be another Tarzan for disney, disney is so lame now
