I made this suggestion on the website and happy that it got so many votes that it made the poll and won! I've probably watched this almost 50 times throughout my life since it first came out- I took it to every sleepover almost every weekend, watched a few times a week after school, sometimes on repeat by rewinding the VHS when bored at home. I loved this movie so much growing up. One of the best late 90's films for me. Really miss Natasha Richardson.

I wish Disney would go back to making films like these. Mighty Ducks, Honey I shrunk the kids, Genius, they made so many originals. us 80s and 90s kids had it made. Now, it's heavily focused on just a couple of franchises like Marvel and Star Wars.

This is my childhood movie, and I love watching it as an adult. Compared to back when I was a kid, I have a different perspective on it. I literally remember everything about this movie. The only thing was I forgot the reason they split the twins in the first place, because as a kid I really didn't care about that, just the fun/funny moments, which to some people is not really a good reason to split your twins or kids apart. But such a fun film, not really emotional but keeps you entertained. The hotel and the camping scene were always my favorite things about this movie. ❤

meredith’s mother is played by the woman who played a similar role to meredith in the older version of this movie. i believe she’s supposed to be the same character as her name is the same in both! and that little song hallie sings in the hotel is from it as well. the 1961 version is totally worth a watch too!

It took me alarmingly long to realize Lindsay Lohan’s career started with Disney just remaking their own movies and putting her in them. Also—how did I never question that one of the twins was sent to a whole other country just so this “coincidence” could happen? Side note: The handshake with the butler is a pretty popular NFL touchdown celebration these days.

To comment on Oak saying are you allowed to gamble at summer camp I will say you got to suspend your disbelief and just enjoy the movie because I counsel at a Summer Camp every yr and you poke some holes in the camp part for instance the have the one boy with alot of girls where is the boy staying it is not allowed to bunk boys with girls at a summer camp and you cant even carry money on you while at camp so again gotta just suspend your disbelief and enjoy

I love this version and Lindsay’s version of freaky Friday better then the originals tbh. Ahaha 🤣 the scene in the isolation got me rolling, oaks dramatics and sarcasm lmao .also him coming up with ways for Meredith to die. You’re a hoot Oak lmao😁 Oh and the concord! 😆 Mason Was on it I literally said yesss it was the concord I can’t believe you got that! Great reaction. Honestly the whole reason for splitting them up didn’t really seem like such a huge thing because they didn’t make that the focus. The more important thing was them actually being together and reuniting their parents. Even now to me it’s like eh ok, there’re fine, it’s fine it’s just a feel good classic with fun moments.

I owned this and the original. In the original both twins were growing up in the US. One in California and the other in Baltimore - so the summer camp meet up was a little more plausible.

FUN NOTE: "Aunt Vicky" is the original "Meredith" of the old Parent Trap - but she's literally called Vicky there too so I like to think it's the same Vicky from the older movie.

The story is based on the german children's book called "Das doppelte Lottchen" by Erich Kästner. Natasha Richardson, who played the mom, was married to Liam Nesson and died after a skiing accident in 2009. RIP.

They definitely were spot on with the casting. Natasha Richardson and Dennis Quaid were so likeable that you had to forgive them for the terrible parenting choices, and the supporting cast were all so wonderful. Lindsay Lohan did an amazing job playing two completely different characters. And I concur with others that yall should do “It Takes Two”, another classic.

Idk if the guys know this but Natasha Richardson (who plays the mom) died a few years after this movie came out. She was such a gem and as a child I used to think she looked exactly like Princess Di... I love this movie so much!

A fun fact is that i learned the hard way the plot of this movie its not possible. You see i have a twin, one day when we where traveling together they mixed up out pasports in inmgration. We where detained for a while beacuse our fingerprints didn't match the ones in file. They later found out the mistake, but it was a stressfull situation hahaha.

I always thought it was crazy how they just expect us to go with and think it's cute the lousy reason why the parents split up twins and sent them across oceans at birth. Not cute, not funny. just weird 😂 How am I supposed to root for them? Seriously? LOL

Crazily enough, I actually know someone who has experienced this situation where her parents divorced and split the kids up. Its my mom’s sister-in-law and growing up she didn’t know much about her father, only that he and her mom didn’t workout She had an older brother who she grew up with and he knew the secret but was forced to keep it from her.. And it wasn’t until she was an adult and her mom had already passed away that her father and two siblings he kept with him came looking for her. So sadly her two brothers never got to meet/get to know their mother. But growing up there were certain days of the year that she realized her mom would struggle with and her mom would basically lock herself away and cry all day long.. It was the days of her missing brothers and fathers birthdays and the brother she did get to grow up with always had to pretend he knew nothing even though he was struggling on those days too.

Just enjoy the adventure) And I was also firmly convinced that the girls were actually played by twins — only 5–7 years later did I find out that Lindsay Lohan doesn’t have a twin. I was shocked — it looked so real! And rewatching it with you after all these years, I can still say: creators did an amazing job with twin stuff 👏👏👏

As a kid I hated Meredith, as an adult I can understand where she's coming from. She's an adult who wants to marry another adult and his kids are obsessed with breaking them up. She's definitely a mean gold-digger lol but she's not like a supervillain kid me would have thought she was.

Hey guys, I'm sure you have read by now that the actress who played the Mom, Natasha Richardson, was Liam Neeson's wife. She was in a show skiing accident years ago while on vacation and ended up dying in the hospital due to head trauma if I remember correctly. Really sad.
