Or how about you just let them watch it how they want to? Sub elitism is sooooo 90s, and it didn't even really make sense back then either. These days, English dubs are as good if not better than Japanese. They also fit the character much better than Japanese 999,999 times out of 1,000,000.

Woahhh okay even as a sub fan I agree that people should watch how they want but let’s not act like the OG Japanese voice actors don’t run laps around the Eng dub actors most of the time. It’s the original language after all, so they do the proper dialects and verbal tics characters are intended to have. It’s not rlly elitism it’s facts lol

I don’t mind you guys watching other anime in dub, but the Japanese voice acting in this one is just wayyy too good to pass up. Especially Tanjiro in a lot of episodes — his performance hits you right in the heart, it hurts you through screen. 💔🥺

Don’t be pressured with sub vs dub. Go with what works for you. To be honest, I’m excited to watch the dub with you as a lot of the Eng VAs here are good and are from games I personally enjoy.

Since it's a watch-along, I just watch along in Sub while you guys watch Dub. I did that with FMA:B. Though, I will say, since Demon Slayer takes place entirely in Japan, with tons of Japanese cultural references, and full Japanese names for the entire cast, Sub just fits it the best. I do think you'll miss out a bit on some of the Japanese VA's performances, especially in Season 2. But if you really feel like it takes away from the experience for you guys to have to read subtitles, I get it. Do what you like the most.

Unless you plan on watching a show with a bad dub, which is becoming less and less common, especially for popular shows, you should probably stick to the dub going forward. My biggest issue with watching anime subs, is that my eyes are taking on too much of the load. Whenever there were big action scenes, I would often have to choose between taking in the the action and taking in the dialogue. When multiple characters speak at the same time, it can get confusing as to who is saying what. Finally, if you're going to continue to take notes, every time you look down to do so, you risk missing important dialogue. Also, where is The Answer???

I respect both, and whenever I rewatch an anime, I listen to the other version. After doing that for like 12 years, I find that there's rarely ever one that's just awful, especially nowadays that dubbing has gotten bigger and better. However, I would say that more often than not, one ends up being better than the other overall. I think most die-hard anime fans would agree that, for example, Jujutsu Kaisen and Re:Zero are better subbed. And it's hard to just make a blanket statement like that, because there is some nuance. Like in AoT, the dub is generally fantastic, but many people dislike it because the titan roars are changed, and they can't stand Eren's voice actor since he has so many popular roles and pretty much sounds the same in all of them. Another example, though in the opposite direction, is that in some older shows people grew up watching dubbed, they have nostalgia bias towards that version, like with FMAB. Not that the dub is bad, of course. In fact, most agree that it's one of the best of all time, but I think it being older adds nostalgia, and Bradley's voice actor having passed really immortalizes the show for a lot of people, among other things, all of which adds points swinging in the dub's favor when people discuss sub vs dub. Point being, I think most diehard fans just want people to have the best first experience with an anime, and that includes what they think sounds the best. But also, it is worth considering that dubs let you listen in the background or look away for a second. In my opinion, I'm here no matter what and fine with either, but I think switching it up every once in a while is cool, to hear the original and whatnot! :)

I don’t mind what language you guys watch but I do think you guys should watch Demon Slayer in Japanese. The original is sooo good. There are some Dubs that can be considered equal or maybe even better than the original. Personally I think Demon Slayers Dub isn’t that great compared to the Original.

Please watch the show in any language that is more accessible to you! I know it’s a hot debate but from what I can tell there are no changes to the story. I originally watched Demon slayer in Sub and then when I introduced it to my mom we watched in Dub. I would watch the newer seasons in subs as they came out episode by episode and then would watch the full season(s) once completely out in dub with my mom. Everyone has their preferences but as a long time anime watcher it’s nice to see anime become more accessible to those who wouldn’t pick it up previously because there now is a consistent English dub formatting.

I think demon slayer is better in japanese. There are some animes that sound good in dub like full metal and death note were really good, demon slayer isn’t terrible but I think sub sounds way better. They have great voice actors.

This is my second best anime of all time after AoT in this generation. Naruto is a different category altogether. Btw, Nezuko is not a zombie but more like a Vampire.

The nitpicking with dub and sub is crazy! I like watching anime in both but sometimes it’s easier for me in English the first watch so that I can grasp the entirety of the story. Like AOT I watched in dub first, and glad I did, cause I was trying to pay attention the subtitles instead of the show. Regardless, whatever is easier for them to watch it in, I’m just glad they’re watching anime in general!

The sub is elite but for a first watch I dont think dub is terrible. Especially for how good the animation is. They can pay more attention to that as opposed to reading subtitles. Would still recommend a rewatch in sub on their own time though if they enjoy the shot.

I really hope you guys experience the sub for this one, there are some anime that are amazing in dub like Death Note and FMAB and there’s those that are undoubtedly better to experience in the original language like AOT and in this case also Demon Slayer, I watch both sub and dub with anime btw but it really depends on the performance & Demon Slayer is a must watch in the original language with sub. I’m not just saying this because of the voice acting but because Demon Slayer has a very heavy Japanese influence story. As you can notice already, it is obviously set in locations around Japan. The characters are all Japanese, have Japanese names, wear cultural clothing and have Japanese customs and mannerisms. Even the music has Japanese instrumentals and sounds. None of the dubbed voices matches the overall story quite like the Japanese voices

I know they are watching it in dub ( hopefully they change their mind and switch to sub later ) but just sync up the Japanese audio instead of the English dub for yourself with their reaction. You can still enjoy seeing their reactions while also hearing the original voices and audio on your end since both versions are on crunchyroll, this is how I’m doing it cause I too cannot watch Demon Slayer without hearing the original Japanese voice acting. It just feels so out of place hearing the characters speak in English and have American accents when the whole of Demon Slayer revolves around historical Japan, Japanese culture and Japanese people. From the mannerisms, the names, to the historical cultural clothing, to the beautiful Japan locations in the background setting, even the music has Japanese instrumentals. So yeah the dub voices just ain’t matching with the overall story. Which is kinda off putting in a way

i’m glad they’re watching anime too! they are my comfort channel so i was so happy that they gave it a chance! this whole sub vs dub debate is ridiculous. it’s a preference. & honestly from watching their reactions, they seem to enjoy dubs more & it’s easier for them to follow & react to. there are so many channels that already do sub, let the dub lovers enjoy this lol

I’m watching it in English with you guys for the first time too! I’ve been watching anime in its original language for so many years (and even all movies with subtitles, since I speak Spanish) that I’ve become a super fast subtitle reader lol — it doesn’t bother me anymore, and honestly, it just feels like the only way to do it. But I totally understand both sides. Japanese —as you probably noticed in AoT— is incredibly expressive; sometimes scenes hit much harder just because of the voice acting. But, if reading subtitles makes you miss visual details or names, then watching it dubbed totally makes sense. So yeah, whatever helps you enjoy it the most! I’ll make my peace with the dubbed version haha

in a sea of people commenting that this show is mid im here to share my love for it! its my all time 2nd fave anime ever this show is very character centric so as long as you like the characters you'll have a good time! this show also has SO SO MUCH japanese culture imbued in to the story like just the locations and clothes and folklore and even how the characters are so thats also an added layer of enjoyment for me that watching the show I'm able to know more about japan :D even the score and music of the show also is very reminiscent of japanese sound so yea cant wait to see yall's journey! ((also i know yall are tired with the language discourse but i really recommend to check out the difference of atleast tanjiro's voice actor, a lot of the characters in the show will be shouting and screaming and very exaggerated in their voices that I don't think it translates as well in english))

They talked about this in some of their Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood reactions, but they've found reacting to dubs much easier for them as they aren't having to read everything and miss things. Personally, I also think dubs are better for reactions...I don't want to watch people read the screen but react to the show.

I don’t mind this one in dub, i’ve seen it in both and it’s fine. there’s some shows like One Piece that has a good dub but when you get to Jujutsu Kaisen, I think that one is best in Japanese. so it just depends on the show. i’m just glad you’re watching it.

YAAAAY so happy you guys are reacting to Demon Slayer!!! The animation is absolutely STUNNING, and the lore will have you locked in throughout the whole series. Top that off with some AWESOME fight scenes and a heap of character development, and you've got an insanely sick show.

I agree, and there was another comment saying how it just doesn’t fit the anime too because of how it is highly revolved around Japanese culture (clothes, music, setting, etc) and they would completely miss out if they watched in all in dub. They already watched death note and fullmetal in dub but demon slayer doesn’t have dub nearly as good as those. I hope they change their mind at some point

I hate this take on content creators. Paying for content does not automatically make you their boss. Just because I pay for services like Netflix and Hulu, doesn't mean I have direct input on what they put out. They don't HAVE to take recommendations. This could just be a channel where they watch what they want to and you get what you get, take it or leave it. If people have a preference, fine, voice it, as you said, but respectfully. The issue is it turns into a lot of complaining and that this subject is a reoccurring argument. They have already given reasons for these decisions and people shouldn't keep pressuring them to change them. If y'all don't like the dub, watch along in sub.

Dang, bought the membership for the full reaction for this one but it's in dub. Thought for sure this one was gonna be in sub because the whole anime is heavily based on Japanese culture and theme as well as the context being much less confusing. Not to mention, the voice acting on sub is flawless in how it captures the emotions and vibe. It's obviously entirely up to you guys choice and I'm still gonna enjoy the reactions, but I'd like to strongly recommend watching this one in sub starting from ep3.

while they do try to listen to the audience in which language to watch, i also assume they’d like to watch something without having to move their focus from the scene to subtitles too much. plus, having to read while theres a fight scene might get a little irritating lol

OMG NO!!! The dub is AWFUL! Deku's voice is just unbearable, and as he's the MC that puts it in the absolutely not category for me. The others aren't too bad, and I know that All Might has a great actor, but he's just funnier in Japanese where the disconnect between his origin and his speech is more exaggerated - even the way they pronounce his name! But I believe in always watching shows in the language for which they were written. The language flow is different, and some things can sound ridiculous in English which are fine in Japanese due to cultural differences.

There’s some anime I’d argue to just watch it in sub, but Demon Slayer isn’t one of them, at least not on a first time watch. Trying to switch between the action and reading the dialogue so you don’t miss the story, especially while doing a reaction would be a massive pain
