The boys have been busy cooking over Christmas. Love it 🤘

The little goat 😭

Well once again Apple gives me my favorite new show of the year. These greedy bastards sure know how to pull me into some craziness. Great reaction to the show guys. (NOW GIVE US SILO 😁)

Karina Alarcon

First scene was so scary, you can see how the language, the culture, and personality are gone, they're only playing to pretend for her, and now they can abandon their small villa, their animals, and don't say a word ever again, they don't communicate with words, so there's no language at all. Also, the reason they ask for consent to take their stem cells, is because the procedure is very invaside and that can cause pain, and they can't hurt people, but Carol's eggs are like the apple that fell from the tree, they don't need her consent, they're out already; just like they didn't ask for consent when they spreaded the virus.

Karina Alarcon

And the reason why Carol fell for Zosia really fast was because she was in a very vulnerable state of mind, the manipulation was too big, in the past she didn't let herself enojoy her life, even when she had everything, and now, she decided that she wanted to enjoy with someone she thought loved her for real, she was in delusional state and Zosia telling her that they still wanted to convert her was like a punch in her face... I personally understood why she decided to stay in that fantasy and not face reality.

MynamecouldB

Carol understands that even if she were to ask Zosia to stop using her eggs, that they would say they could not because it's their biological imperative to do so. They "love" Carol and want to save her from "drowning".

The intro gave me big culty vibes. Kusimayu was manipulated, drank the "Koolaid" and is now gone. A lot of people have been making AI comparisons, but I'm starting to see it as more of a show about depression and what truly makes a person happy. People dealing with emotional trauma and depression are much more susceptible to being manipulated and joining a cult. It's what Carol was going through and why she was so easily almost indoctrinated. They are trying to convince them to join with the faux promise of "You'll be happy!"

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

"Kusimayu was manipulated, drank the "Koolaid" and is now gone." -- in the second episode, which took place one day after the events of the pilot episode, they all met on Air Force One, and Kusimayu said she wanted to join literally that day. She had brought her "cousin" and her "aunt" and said she wanted to be with them in the Joined - so there was no Koolaid to drink and she wasn't manipulated - she wanted it from the jump. Yeah, she's gone, but there was no long game to manipulate her.

Carol was in a vulnerable moment mentally and physically. I was not surprised at all when she changed her mind because she was not alone anymore doing this. But Zosia is a WE, not an I. Carol was trying to make her a I but she was always gonna be a WE. That's what I didn't fucking understand. She's still other people you

Evan

She was manipulated. It was just easier because they fed on her beliefs. They had just gotten in her head much earlier. She mentioned in that earlier episode, they told her how amazing it is. She believed them unlike Carol or Manousos.

JBK405

Yeah, that shotgun blast got me, too. I JUMPED. I pointed out in my comment on the last episode that the Hivemind is SO manipulative with how they speak, even without "lying". This episode is completely full of it, starting with how Zosia tells Carol about Manousos. We saw that they deduced weeks ago that Manousos was going to see Carol, but they waited until he's almost to her before saying anything. This way Carol couldn't meet him halfway when she was isolated and alone and desperate for companionship (ANY companionship). Once she does know about him, she doesn't have time to ask them questions about him or think of how she wants to approach the situation. Them not saying anything is not a lie, but it puts her in a false position right from the start. When Carol asks if he's dangerous, they pause significantly and then say that they don't think he would hurt HER. This implies that he would hurt one of them, but we've never seen him do that (We've seen him threaten them, but never follow-through on the threat, and his threats were vague enough that it didn't even trigger their worldwide shutdown like Carol's anger did). Again, not a lie, but with a whole lot of implication that they could have cleared up if they really wanted to. It's ALL a manipulation. Every bit of it. Just like the singing they did during Kusimayu's Joining, which they stopped the INSTANT she became one of them. They didn't even finish the song. It was a performance for her, and as soon as she stopped BEING "her" they stopped the performance. If you notice, Carol was deliberately pronoun-neutral when asking if Zosia had a romantic/sexual partner before the Joining. Because she didn't want to learn if Zosia was straight, and therefore learn if this whole relationship was ONLY due to the Hivemind. Because she didn't want to break the bubble that Zosia "really" loved her. Even when she was "happy" with the lie, she knew it was still a lie and didn't want to admit it to herself. People want to anthropomorphize things. Carol wanted to believe that Zosia was 'breaking out' of their control. That even if she was connected to the Hivemind, she ALSO was connected to Carol, and their connection was special. She clung to that idea so hard, until finally she couldn't cling anymore and had to finally realize that even after sleeping together and playing games together and LIVING together, Zosia still isn't "Zosia". We -- the audience -- have never met the "real" Zosia for even a second. All we've met is the Hivemind moving Zosia's body around like a puppet. The Hivemind here on Earth is not connected to the Hivemind on Kepler-22, or anywhere else. They stated explicitly that they are not connected or have any "contact" to them. The signal they received was instructions on how to make the Hivemind virus, and then human scientists had to decode that and manufacture the virus here. What Zosia is talking about with "spreading" is to do the same thing, and broadcast the instructions again to a new planet. OMG I remember when Rikishi ran over Steve Austin. That whole era was WILD.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

I don't know if I would call it manipulation, though - they genuinely believe it is so much better than being an individual.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

The novel Carol is reading poolside is The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula K. LeGuin, and I'm 100% certain it wasn't chosen randomly. The story is (in a bit of a flip) about a human named Genly Ai, who is sent to another planet called Gethen to convince the population to join a group of planets called the Ekumen (in the novel, Earth, or Terra, is a part of this federation). All members of the Ekumen can communicate telepathically. Genly Ai has serious difficulty communicating with the people of Gethen because they are ambisexual (no specific solid gender other than once every 26 days for mating) and the effects of this on the creation, history, and development of their culture make that culture nearly incomprehensible to someone who comes from a race of beings with a gender binary. (The novel is from 1969, so written well before what we currently understand about gender today). This carries several themes also present in Pluribus both large and small, down to Carol changing Raban from a man to a woman in her newest Wycaro novel. There's a LOT more detail and plot that I'm glossing over, and a lot more parallels/rhymes with Pluribus. It's a really complex piece of literature. If anyone is looking for a good read, I can't recommend it enough - it's just fantastic. (I thought Diamond Dave would be more excited by the line "Atom bomb." being the last thing said in the season - not sure how you go bigger than that! It was a great payoff for Chekhov's Nuclear Weapon.)

Knightmare

Carol went crazy for a month but she's so back. I can never believe how easily ppl in these things (Pluribus, Detroit: Become Human, Westworld) fall so EASILY for these human imitators. They're mimicking. As soon as you tell me some"one" is simulating humanity, I abandon all compassion immediately 😂 Like you will NEVER be us

Simon

Don't know if any of you caught it, but the voice on the phone that tells Manousos about Zosia was none other than Tony Dalton (Lalo). So we got Lalo and Howard (kinda) reunited in the Hive lol.

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

Mason Quinn was talking about how those animals won't last very long. I was looking at him like, "Too early, dude." Really, guy? 😂

Lauren

That part about the baby goat got me 😭 Also, you guys had a lot of great one-liners today lol.

Lauren

The girl who entered the hive mind but left her baby goat behind…I’m just a softie for animals.

Jeff K.

Great shout right there. And yeah, Vince and his writers absolutely don't do things by accident or just because. Like, earlier in the season, when the book that's on Helen's side of the bed being "And Then There Were None" is very clearly intentional. Like, might not be important to the overall plot, but everything they do, minimally, goes along with the themes and messaging they're trying to get across.

MarisoL

I wanted to shake Carol this episode! Very selfish way to come back around to save the world. The intro with the Peruvian young woman was sad and disturbing. Can't wait for what next season brings.

Aubrey

Me too! I thought that was so powerful though.

Aubrey

The last two episodes confirmed a lot of things for me. First, the idea of happiness. I think the Joined see 'happiness' as 1) a chemical formula and 2) a human construct defined by community and the lack of struggle which allows the independent ones to be manipulated. The cuddle puddles from 1x8 lead me to believe that the human body still needs that connection to help produce oxytocin. The ritual at the beginning of 1x9 leads me to believe that, while the Joined understand human happiness on a basic level, they aren't capable of actually feeling it themselves. Hence why the ceremony immediately stopped and the baby goat gets left behind without a backward glance. I also think it's interesting that they have no real connection to their home planet, so they may be a hivemind locally, but they don't have anything that would define them as a people, race, or society. Like Carol, after 9 episodes, you do kinda begin to see them as people, but they really are just an invading species that is more disease than actual intelligent consciousness. I've been saying it for several episodes, and Oak hit on it here, but the point of their existence is merely to exist. They are enamored with Carol's ability to think independently. They 'know' her as a mother knows their child or a spouse knows their lover. They don't know the actual inner workings of her mind because they have not been in it, making her unpredictable and dangerous. We think of them as omniscient, but they're really not. They know what everyone in the world knew at the time of the Joining, but there are 11 people who have had 60 days to learn, adapt, and grow in a way that the Joined cannot. That will be the key to the independent ones liberating them, and as long as one of them remains, the humanity inside of the Joined will too, leaving them vulnerable and incomplete.

Kiss the Librarian

I'm impressed with the science knowledge from you guys. You would need an egg to start developing into an embryo to get stem cells, but like Oak said, if it was just fertilized then it wouldn't be pure maternal DNA. There is a way to stimulate an egg to start dividing without fertilizing it, and then harvesting stem cells from that, which would have pure maternal DNA. The process is called parthenogenesis, but I don't know how successful it is. I'm wondering if this process will fail, but if Carol will befriend Manousos - only to find that he is at risk of being turned because his stem cells were harvested while he was hospitalized. But then maybe by that time, Carol and Manousos will have figured out how to bring someone back

Matthew Glover

im late to watching this series with you guys but you asked for breaking bad easter eggs so ill drop this here. In episode 4,the woman who performs CPR on Zosia at the end of the episode is "Rose Estrada". She was the on site medic during the filming of "Better Call Saul" who actually saved Bob Odenkirks life. While filming an episode,Bob had a massive heart attack on set and nearly died, but Rose was the one who tended to him and saved him. You may or may not have known about that incident depending on how close you follow those kind of things. So i thought that was just a really cool thing for Vince to put her in the episode in that way.

Alex

Can't believe Mason Quinn was surprised that Carol wasn't down with the guy. Carol didn't like what they were doing but she wanted to reverse the joining. Your boy from Paraguay is like "They're better off dead!" .. That's like WHOA CAP !!! You gotta calm down man... He's talking about killing them all so of course Carol's not down with that. I would've wanted Carol to ask her if the joining was reversed would Zosia still love her.
