If I watch I’ll have to accept that it’s really over

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Same. I haven't watched it yet and have avoided spoilers (social media, online, etc). I'll watch it later tonight, probably. I just have to psyche myself up.

enyo96

This was my first NYE I spent sobbing on my couch. Absolute perfect ending.

Diablos Cafe

Have a few complaints but it was a solid finale.

Josip Buretić

Glad you liked it.... unfortunately for me was the opposite

Aditya Rao M.R

such a bittersweet way to enter the new year still cant process that 9 years of watching this is now over what a banger of a show but the ending did leave me in bits

Diablos Cafe

That sucks but I can see why

enyo96

i mean i have some issues overall but I thought the ending was perfect, it was a great send off.

Marie RammGirl

Best way to start off 2026 is with some Best Badd Medicine, can't wait to watch this finale with ya guys later, hope you all had a awesome new years! 🎉💚💙❤️

BiggestOttoFan

I did not like that Will's love story amounted to a random guy introduced 2 seconds before the show ended. The guy has no lines. There's no hand holding. No hug. No kiss. He might not even be real because that seemed to be Mike theorizing or saying ideal futures. It just seems kinda yikes that they put Will on center stage this season but treated his love life like an afterthought. We got several Lumax and Jopper scenes but no Rovickie in the epilogue and Will was done dirty. Mike also barely did anything in Vol 2 and the finale. The Duffers promised he would be back in a leadership role this season but after Vol 1 he just sinks into the background. It's also weird that despite him spending all of last season telling Will that they needed to be a team going forward they hardly spent any time together. Apparently Noah Schnapp had to ask for the scene on the radio tower between them to be added in. They also just gave El a repeat of her ending in S1. With her being gone and maybe she's alive or maybe she isn't. I wish I liked the finale more. I really do. But it's over I guess.

Jeff K.

I appreciate that Steve really did wind up with six nuggets: Dustin, Lucas, Will, Mike, Max, and El.

Josip Buretić

It's ok, overall Stranger Things was great journey with some excellent episodes and seasons. And if someone wanted a perfect ending for our group yes then I can see why you would love this kind of ending and I don't have any problems with that. In my opinion they did build Henry/Vecna to be even stronger then usual but then the ending battle was done in 10min easy peasy I guess. And a lot oher question Duffer Brothers just pushed in the corner or stuff happened off screen...I know it is difficult to make ending that will make everyone happy but I really ask myself did they really know how they wanted it to end or they leave that to us to decide alone to ourselves 🤷🏼‍♂️

Josip Buretić

I feel you totally, Mike was the biggest disappointment this season he didn't do anything. And if that is true about that scene on the radio tower then it is just sad. And yes I do feel the same as you about ending

Kickinthescience

I was wondering where was the Prince music this whole series and here we are

KWarfield

At the core the show is a coming of age story. I thought the finale was beautifully done. 😭 gonna miss it.

BlueJean452

For me I just felt that the final boss fight was really rushed and kinda of anticlimactic. In the S4 finale it took the whole 2 hours for them to fight just Vecna and they still couldn’t defeat him cause he was so strong. But in this episode they defeated both Vecna and the Mind Flayer, while also dealing with the army, in an hour. To me it seemed like it took more effort for them to defeat the mind flayer monster in the S3 finale than it did the actual one. And the fact there there were no demogorgons, demo dogs, or bats anywhere in either the upside down or the planet where they are supposed to have come from feels like heavy handed plot armor. They were just conveniently not there so the writers didn’t have to kill any more of the main cast.

Cranky Otter

Can’t wait to hear your reaction guys! I was so frustrated by this finale. I went to bed angry on New Years Eve lol

Cranky Otter

Right?! And why oh why do we have so much time to have emotional heart to heart conversations? Just an easy rambling stroll to prevent the apocalypse… “Golly, I’m so glad we’re still bff for life 🥹 “ Like seriously?!?!

Cranky Otter

A lot of the writing felt very phoned in for this finale. Ex. We barely see El and Mike together all season to the point that I wondered “did they friend zone each other?”. Imho, El’s sacrifice didn’t feel as dramatic and heart wrenching because we didn’t have adequate scenes of Mike and El together to remind us why we love them as a couple.

Maisie

YES exactly!!!

Maisie

I was literally waiting for them to say this aloud in the show.

Josip Buretić

I am so happy that I am not the only one who also thinks like that

Josip Buretić

Yes and it was clear that she will stay on the other side I was not surprised and that's why it wasn't so emotional for me like I thought it would be

ZuZu

The Duffers made sure that everyone's last day on set, they would shoot their last scene. So yes, that was the last scene they shot, so their emotions were real.

Crispy

Bro people be bitching, solid final. Really enjoyed season 5

Kickinthescience

I’m glad the finale wasn’t as bad as Game of Thrones

enyo96

I saw it as Voldemort’s horcruxes. They had to take down all his defenses before they could attack fully. They had to go to his actual home (the abyss), get the kids away from him, attack the mindflayer and then he was super weak to the point where he could barely fight. They waited till his defenses were down and that’s when they attacked. I thought this was kinda obvious, that’s why they needed to go to the abyss in the first place…to get him where he’s vulnerable.

ZuZu

I'm with you and I'm with Oak. This whole season was great.

Shannon

Amazing reaction & finale 🙌 loved every second of it, and all of S5 😁

Shannon

Me too! Loved it 🔥

enyo96

It only took a few minutes because Vecna’s defenses were down, he was super weak. The whole season was fighting all his extra support and help….because without all that he’s not as powerful as he thinks he is. And when he’s weakened, that’s when they attacked. That’s what I got from it anyway

Heidi Louise

The last thirty minutes were a little slow, particularly the last scene on the roof where Steve, Robin, Nancy, and Jonathan were all just chatting. I was definitely expecting a more devastating end and am surprised by all the characters having have pretty happy ending. Overall, I enjoyed this whole season. I laughed, I cried, and I worried about my favorite characters. What more can one ask? I also kinda owe Kali an apology...I totally was not trusting her lol. The people review bombing are ridiculous, I have seen some bad final seasons for shows...this one doesn't come close.

Bloop

Finale and whole season was utter dog imo. Big bad for 5 seasons just to die in 5 minutes. No stakes at all as no one died. Where did the stone come from that Henry got. Why weren't the crew arrested/killed by the military after being caught. Finale was so rushed beyond belief. Joyce literally does nothing the whole season except for the end, the acting was sub par from almost everyone, the final season focused too much on Holy and introduced way too many characters. Dr Kay and Kali were such pointless characters. There's probably a lot more that doesn't make sense either so to those saying that people can't complain there is most definitely enough to complain about

Ginger

I didn’t like the extremely slow pacing after the 18 month jump at the end. It felt lackluster and I would have enjoyed a stronger finish. Loved all the action prior to that. Very interesting to watch. I wish we could have seen Hopper reunite with his two deputies who believed him to be dead. I also wish we could have seen Paul Reiser’s character again. I was happy to see Hopper propose. As soon as I saw it was them at Enzo’s, I knew it was coming. 😛

BlueJean452

Yeah but they didn’t defeat the demogorgons. They just weren’t there for some unknown reason. And I’m not arguing that Vecna would have been weaker after the mind flayer was killed just that it was way too easy to kill it. This giant monster the size of a literal cliff and they took it down with a little bit of fire and some knives in a shorter scene than Nancy and Jonathan’s break up scene.

Olive_Sandy

I loved it. Cried, laughed, cheered for joy. Definitely a happy ending for most of our characters and I do think El went out a hero. Can’t believe it’s come to an end. Top tier show and cast. Thanks for the reaction as always.

sarina

watching this again just makes me love it so much more 🥹 happy endings for all of the main characters (sans Eleven) is what they deserve! just like Hopper said. i do owe Kali an apology for doubting her 😭 but i’m so happy about the way the show ended. after 10 years of this show i would have been so sad if anyone in the main group was killed or didn’t have at least a semi-happy ending 🫶🏻

Justin Russell

I was personally a big fan of this episode. It wasn’t as action packed as I expected nor as devastating. I liked that though, as much as I love action sequences and big boss battles I love the chemistry between everyone in this series. It was honestly a relief to watch it end on a note of hopefulness and not just straight grief. If this show had just been about these folks going about everyday life and never had any supernatural elements to it, I would’ve still been along for the entire ride. The only gripe I have about this episode is for 10 years we’ve all been able to be happy just waiting even if it was a few years for stranger things because we knew it was coming. This just put that chapter to rest and I’m glad we didn’t lose anyone, we lost enough this series to not have to end the show making your audience mourn is so much more powerful.

enyo96

Dustin mentions that the Abyss is only for Vecna’s dead creatures, idk if they could travel there alive. I also thought Will took out the rest of the demogorgans

MJ Eid

Im not going to say this episode was bad. But they did leave quite a few loose ends and plot holes. It seemed a bit rushed and the boss fight was underwelming and just season 3 all over again. That being said it accomplished what it was supposed to do. it wrapped up the main story and was entertaining.

MJ Eid

it was ok...so people can have complaints...like there was alot of plot holes and loose ends. Only for it to be the easiest boss fight ever which was an exact compy of season 3. Except killing henry kills the mind flayer? odd.....also i never feared anyone was going to die. and thats not that great of story writing imo.

MJ Eid

thats a really week excuse for how killing henry somehow kills the mind flayer. They aren't one, henry is his puppet.

BlueJean452

No Dustin said that he thought they would have died with Vecna if El had already killed him and he was unsure if there were still battling in his mind. But she hadn’t killed him yet so they should have been there. Dustin also said in episode 7 when he was explaining the wormhole that that is where all the creatures were originally from. We saw them alive there in the flashback of Henry being banished there by El in season 4.

Kaley

The moment when Steve was cleaning Derek’s glasses, reassuring him he was safe and it was going to be okay, and then Derek hugging him made me so emotional-WE LOVE DAD STEVE!

Crispy

Agree to disagree

Maisie

The episode wasn't *bad*, but they could have done so much more. The final battle was way too easy. Vol 2 was kind of bad overall. They spent way too much time retreading old ground, having characters progress only to have them regress, changing their mind at the last second (Will is a badass sorcerer and then crying to his mom about how it’s all his fault again? Max comes back and no one but Lucas even hugs her after El saved her life? They weren't heavily hinting at Nancy and Steve in the Winnebago? Hop is suddenly a zen guy and not wrecked? ) And for god's sake, commit to killing someone off. Make us emotional. We know you know how!

Arudorin

Honestly, I didn’t feel like this really landed for me. Was it bad? Not really, but I think it could have been better. This is my second time watching it with ya'll, and I still feel the same way. I was hoping that watching it again would change my mind, but it still feels just okay.

Josip Buretić

Same hehe my oldest son and I have watched it at 2:00 AM and at 4:30 AM we did ask herself why?why? 😁

Tara ✨💫

I'm actually disappointed with how little they used Linda Hamilton this season.

Alex

OMG LOL I said the same thing as Oak there "They found us, I don't know how, but they found us!" The thing about Eight stabbing at him is like.. This isn't real, so why is she trying to stab him in the mind? It's not real. I mean, I suppose it could be like The Matrix where "the body cannot live without the mind" but I dunno. But that just stuck out to me. Re: The reaction of people to this season: I thought that episodes 1-4 of this season were bangers, but I thought part 2 was significantly weaker. Eps 5-6 weren't nearly as good, but I mean it's really hard to follow Will killing 4 demogorgons in completely different places with his mind. For me the season started picking up steam again after the latter half of episode 6, and then episode 7 was a banger, and this finale was absolutely breathtakingly excellently written and executed. Regarding people taking issue with Will's coming out scene. I think this show with Will and Robin being the way they are was to me very realistic and I think it was really well done, and that scene was acted out brilliantly and was really emotional and I loved it. Sometimes these days they really overdo it with this stuff, but I think the way this was done was very realistic and didn't feel like it was forced. Some of the stuff people do online like the memes of Will shooting rainbows at Vecna just make me shake my head at how childish and annoying people can be online. Some people said it was drawn out but a lot of part 2 was drawn out. You guys kept saying in this "Look at the time, there's so much more time left, the battle can't be over" that's what finales do is give you tons of exposition and give you a glimpse into their future lives to wrap stuff up. It felt like they did too much of that in episodes 5 and 6, and I think that's what kind of slowed the episodes down. After Will kills the demogorgons at the end of episode 4 we're like LET'S GOO!!!!! and then episode 5 hits with all this exposition and just what feels like what belongs in the finale, such as this one. I still loved it though. I mean not every episode's gonna be a banger and certainly Cobra Kai Season 6 had its similar problems with pacing but overall did not hurt the show. I think this episode was a complete grand slam and just really drove it home. One of the best endings for a show that I've ever seen. I think it's also interesting how the strength of the episodes seem to be tied into the way that they're filmed or released.. After episode 4, people had to wait a month and they're on the edge of their seat OMG Will is gonna wreck Vecna and then you have 5-7 which are significantly weaker, and then you have 8 which is a banger.. and I think schedules of shooting, making people wait, it all affects how the episodes are written, acted and filmed, and also received by the audience.. Re: The play & having another episode focusing on Vecna... I think they should film the play and release it on Netflix.. That's just the dumbest thing I've ever heard of is to have a broadway play that is integral to the story of the IP and then not having it on Netflix, and only having it for people who live in New York or are going to fly to NYC to watch the play on Broadway. So Montauk.... The complete lack of reaction when Hopper mentioned moving to Montauk shows that you guys never saw that this whole series is based on an alleged "true story" about many of the same events happening at a military base in the New York town of Montauk. The show was originally pitched by the Duffer brothers as "Montauk" but then they changed it to Stranger Things. If you watch the videos the conspiracies run deep with the government actually running a real life "Hawkins lab" where they created kids like Eleven and even opened up a portal to an alternate dimension (again, allegedly). But the guys who studies the Montauk stuff said that the demogorgon looks exactly the way the creature that supposedly crossed into our reality in the portal created in Montauk was described in the guy's notes who claimed to work on the project. Of course this all has to do with MkUltra and a lot of other government secret programs.

Tara ✨💫

This show was very nostalgic for me. I was in the class of '88 and lived through all of it. The Mall hang out place to be, the music, the fashion... the show was spot on!!

Mackenzie OReally Bravo

I saw this in the theatre today (somehow avoided spoilers for 15 hours by avoiding social media like the plague) and was sobbing like 1/3 of the finale. It was SO perfect. Can’t wait to watch y’all’s reaction! ❤️

Andrew

The finale was fine. The Mind Flayer was cool. The epilogue was sweet. That being said, what happened to the bats and demogorgons? I was hoping the crew would have to fight them as they made their way to Vecna. And what about Owens and the high school flashbacks? So many plot holes, fake out deaths, and inconsistencies this season that I couldn't get fully immersed like the previous seasons.

Anthony Velasquez

Banger of a season finale there were moments on S5 that I didnt love but overall it was great season wish Vecna was a bigger threat than he was seemed like they took him down pretty easily but not surprised by it seems alot of tv shows that deal with supernatural the big bad gets defeated rather easily Great scenes at the end to wrap up our main cast stories as for El I dont think she made it but its nice for the group to have that hope that maybe she was able to have that happy ending

MarisoL

Same Oak I wish people enjoyed it as much as I did. And oops apologies to Kali. The only scene I thought went on a little too long was the roof scene with Nancy and others. And as for Will's coming out moment cutting the urgency, I didn't mind it. I thought the breaking into a song with Suzie a couple seasons ago was more frustrating and closer to immediate danger compare to this. Overall I enjoyed the journey.

Jeff K.

I was wondering where the Demogorgons and Dr. Owens were this season, too. But with the high school flashbacks, someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that just a reference to the Broadway play, since it's about young Henry, Joyce, Hop, etc, so they decided to tie it in that way with no real deeper meaning beyond just being an Easter Egg?

Jeff K.

I appreciate the way it called back to Eddie's opening scene when he said "This is my year" and talked about how he was gonna walk that stage at graduation and flip off Principal Higgins. So what did Dustin do? Said it was their year and flipped off Principal Higgins. Nice subtle little tribute to Eddie on that one.

Eboe Thrasher

Snore. This wasn't written for you and your bloodlust.

Jeff K.

Plus, with Will's coming out scene, they even mentioned that it was because they knew Vecna would try to exploit Will's fears. Will's big fear was losing his friends and family in the chance they wouldn't accept him for who he is, and by keeping that secret, he was allowing Vecna to actually have ammo to use against him. Put another way: it's kinda like the end rap battle in 8 Mile when Eminem goes first and just breaks down all of the stuff that he knows Anthony Mackie is gonna try to use against him. If you beat him to the punch, you take that ammo away. Obviously, this is not REMOTELY an apples to apples comparison, but that's still why that scene WAS important to the plot, along with being important to Will's journey as a character. He had to let go of his fears and accept himself before he could face Henry, and he needed his friends to accept him to help him fully accept himself.

Bloop

‘Wasn’t written for You and you’re bloodlust’ like stranger things wasn’t offing people in the first 4 seasons😭🙏 The point of a good show is to have some stakes, in no way should 8 however many people go into another dimension, fight an entity that’s literally a kaiju AND the most powerful telekinetic person on earth and come out unscathed😭🙏

Eboe Thrasher

Haters can hate hate hate, but it wasn't written for your bloodlust. The fight against Henry lasted the whole season, and he also was weakened by confronting his bad memories. Also, he was knocked off balance by the mindflayer moving around, plus the pain of the mindflayer was hurting him as well. He was under attack by both El from the outside and Will taking him over as needed. The combination was too much for him when he was dealing with the pain from the attacks along with the way it was shaking around too. I'm sorry if you don't like the emotional parts of the story. Clearly you just can't deal with it if it isn't pew pew pew. Honestly i fail to see how you liked it in the past, given that it was pretty much a similar mix of emotional beats and story beats vs action. I'm glad it is over so I don't have to hear the endless complaints about this season from people who just don't get it.

Eboe Thrasher

I don't get how Purple Rain doesn't RAMP UP the emotion for you, that has always been a very emotional song for me. It certainly is structured as such and the lyrics are, too So them using it under that scene made it even worse for me. And you might not have noticed, but that was the album they chose to use to play to set off the C4. Which is why Purple Rain came on. There were multiple tracks skipped, of course, cause why play great tracks like I Would Die 4 U, and Baby I'm a Star, right?

Eboe Thrasher

Henry and the Mindflayer were linked. That's why his body was in there now. He didn't leave for long periods of time. I don't know what happened in the past, maybe the Mindflayer was only taking corporeal form in the past because Henry was keeping Will in the upside down. The whole location on the other dimensional planet had to have come after Vecna got beat and retreated to where he was in smoke form. They had to have worked together to get him that physical form. Also, What else are they supposed to do against a huge beast like that when El is fighting Vecna? They only had the weapons they had on them. And unlike 3, they were not using fireworks. So no, it didn't copy season 3 at all. Also, Steve was 100% going over the edge of that tower. And when they were running from the mindflayer, someone could have gotten stepped on. It is also supposed to feel like a Spielberg movie, main characters don't die in those either.

Eboe Thrasher

Henry LITERALLY said that they were in symbiosis. Have you ever thought that when it is in physical form, it needs that sort of support? It was infecting humans in the past. But in this version, Henry was hardwired in right by the brain. Don't forget, they had done a lot of physical damage to it from multiple directions to it as well. And if it had agreed to work in concert with henry so that it could reach the goal of taking over earth, then it left itself vulnerable to damage done to henry.

Eboe Thrasher

I'm glad I don't have to listen to y'all complain endlessly anymore.

Lauren

After initially watching the episode as soon as it dropped, I enjoyed this rewatch with you guys a lot more. While not perfect, I do feel like it was what it needed to be. There were way more good moments than bad.

Aubrey

Let me start by saying that my daughter and I watched the first episode together when she was 12, and ten years later, we watched the final episode together. There's something pretty wonderful about that. For that, this show will always be a 5 for me. That said, I felt like they jumped the shark with this episode. I didn't hate season 5, but I was pretty concerned at the end of episode 7 that they hadn't left enough time to answer all of the remaining questions. I have a running list of plot holes in my head, but here are the ones that are too big for me to ignore. The final battle was far too easy. We've been anticipating this battle for ten years, but we saw more compelling fight scenes with the demos. Now, if they had spent like 10 minutes having to fight their way through demos and whatever else from the Abyss before approaching the Mindflayer with seemingly no hope left--whole different ballgame. Instead, El literally just walked right in. If she can rip the Mind Flayer open with zero resistance, when she stepped inside the chamber, why didn't she immediately do the same to Vecna? Not only was the battle so unserious the we didn't lose anyone, I don't think anyone besides El was even bleeding at the end. This is the ultimate big bad? Be so for real. My biggest issue, though, is where the hell did the rock come from and how did the scientist know that it would connect to the Mind Flayer, which would try to consume Henry? To me that indicates that some sort of portal existed before Henry and someone else had already been flayed despite us having been told otherwise. Henry said that he willingly chose the Mind Flayer because of the broken nature of Man, but what did the Mind Flayer offer that was so much better? Because from where I was sitting, they were basically chilling on Tatooine eating young, innocent children and doing absolutely nothing else besides existing. Finally, El's sacrifice was as pointless as Eddie's. First, how do they even know if her blood could have been used like Henry's? His blood worked because of his connection to the Mind Flayer. Her blood would have been just as diluted as Kali's, regardless of her abilities. The 12 kids and Will were chosen for their innate psychic potential AND have touched the Mind Flayer, so wouldn't they be better candidates? Especially since we witnessed Will gaining his abilities and rivaling Vecna in strength with zero training? Regardless, though, it doesn't prevent it from happening again, it just means that they start from scratch. Like I said, though, I didn't hate season 5 as a whole. I just think they needed to tighten up the writing and add an episode or two to prevent gaping plot holes. Super bummed that it fell short for me in the end.

blitzman08

Thankful this show is over. Huge nose dive in quality & writing after season 2. Unfortunately you can't critique this show without being labelled a "hater".

Syd Reacts 247

"Clearly you just can't deal with it if it isn't pew pew pew". Bestie, they cried several times on the channel and are pretty honest about their experiences. This makes me think you only watch their stranger things reactions and weren't satisfied? I understand your frustration but lets not make blanket statements out of anger

BlueJean452

Ok I’m done arguing. All I’m saying is I thought the final boss battle deserved more screen time. Clearly you felt it wasn’t needed. We can agree to disagree ✌🏻

Alex

I thought the pacing was fine, coz it's the finale but you raise good points that they missed reuniting Hopper with his deputies and Paul Reiser.. and they probably missed a lot more stuff.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

I don't know how to feel about this episode. I feel like they cleaned up the stuff with Henry and the Mind Flayer too fast. I do like a post fight insight, into how our characters are doing, but the "baddies" were defeated half way through the episode. Should have been about 2/3rd into it. Over all though, I absolutely loved this show. It's one of my favorite shows, period. I just thought the cast was bloated. And the defeat was too quick and easy. Isn't it interesting how popular shows and franchises struggle to close out a series. GOT and various other shows have poor final seasons). Same with authors. Famously Steven king sucks at endings. The only criticism I think that was overblown was the reaction to Will's coming out scene. While it's true that there didn't need to be so many in the room, and it was, I believe, poorly placed. I should have been earlier in the episode, or the season, I have no problem with his sexuality, which I believe a lot of the hate is coming from. Those people need to get a life. It was a three minute scene, and they cried and complained about it like he broke the fourth wall and called them all losers, which, ironically, they are.

fatoumata cisse

literally the show has been the best for a while, still enjoyable but season 5 was so bad like Disney channel level bad.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

Depends why you're hating it, I guess. Some people are hating on it for silly reasons. They wanted Mike and Will to hook up, or they just hated the fact that Will was gay. Or they wanted more characters (Steve) to die, etc. I have enjoyed every season. Though each season had its flaws. Though my opinion is no more valid than anyone else's. I just don't understand why people watch shows they don't enjoy. If it dropped off after season 2, why watch the following 3? Is season 5 as good as season 1? No. But it wasn't bad either.

fatoumata cisse

All the emotional monologues and inspirational speeches were so much worse in season 5. In previous seasons, they were way better and not so repetitive. There were barely any stakes or tension in this season, since you know most of the characters end up being safe.

ThetaSigmaTheOriginal

I completely agree about the conclusion coming too easy, and too soon. Would have been better at 2/3rds of the way through. But it was done by half way through the episode. The rock thing? I believe that's the Duffer's brothers intention to add more spin-offs to the show. They've made some animated series that's apparently coming out soon. And possibly other things planned. I think the rock has something to do with that.

Megan

First off, I'm going to miss Vecna's theme/clock sound. I really love it and get so hyped when we hear it. I rank it up there with the horror greats: Freddy, Michael, and Jason. Secondly, wow what a turn around for Derek! I totally thought Derek would be a one and done. So happy they kept him around. And I love that Steve seems to have a direction now and he's going to kill it at fatherhood. I hope he gets his 6 nuggets!  Overall, I'd give the final season a 3/5. As a whole, they retconned and added new characters/storylines that ate up screen time and ultimately led to nowhere. Dr Kay was irrelevant and so was Kali. They really had to force a storyline to create El's ending and then couldn't even commit to that. The Duffer brothers did the cliche "up for interpretation." So either setting up another cash grab and/or stuck with their theme of not knowing how to close out story arcs. They did the same thing with the Russians and the scientists. After El defeats the season's big bad, the villains are suddenly gone. They could've had Henry's battle then done their goodbyes, that second hour was pointless. I personally think the ending was Mike's way of closure so he could move on/have a little hope. For me, her death seemed clear cut though there were some things that didn't add up in that scene. But I think that falls back on the writing (maybe they had it one way then did rewrites and didn't bother correcting obvious holes). I hate that El still never looks at the big picture so like Eddie, her "sacrifice" meant nothing. Yes Dr. Kay can't use her/Henry....but that's not going to stop her from trying. She will still experiment on people and if anything, do so much worse. And who knows what she'll create because we have no info on how far she outpaced Dr. Brenner. El and the crew didn't even know a device existed that could incapacitate El. And that was never touched on.    The entire series, I'll give a 4/5 and that's thanks to season 3&4. I don't know if I would ever watch this show again in the future but if I do come back, it'd only be for season 3 and 4, those were the best. But this is probably a show I'll tuck away as a fun pop culture experience.  That said, this final season had really great moments. I actually enjoyed Will, for the first time, this season. His retcon actually worked well here. Props to Noah for being able to merge old and new Will. I really enjoyed the split second where we think Henry could be saved and was another victim. And I do appreciate that they at least ended the Mind Flayer question and brought it into play. The whole series, I thought the Mind Flayer was the one in control but the last two episodes/this season set up, made it seem like Vecna was the ultimate. I was going to be disappointed if they never concluded that mystery. And I actually really liked the new final battleground vs the Upsidedown.

Cranky Otter

Anybody else think it was a little silly when Vecna sits back up after being impaled and just gurgles at everyone?

Amanda sue

My heart hurts for Mike and El so much.🥀 Losing someone you love is truly one of the most painful things humans can go through. It can completely change you. Not to mention they’re so damn young to experience such grief. Not sure how Mike could even recover now.  Im so proud of Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown tho. I adore them both as well as their tragic characters. They started the show and ended it!  Plus they got Purple Rain by Prince 💜(rip). One of my favorite songs and musician ever.  They’re my new Jack & Rose now too!🌹

Megan

Thanks you! I just wrote the same thing about El and Eddie's "sacrifice." There was no reason for it and Kali had no clue what she was talking about. She had zero answers and had been trapped/drained for who knows how long. Her methods weren't even correct in her failed spinoff introduction back in s2. Also, too many retcons changed any potential for El being able to restart the cycle. Her death doesn't stop Kay from continuing to experiment. She's just going to find new, probably worse, ways to do so. And considering she was able to incapacitate El and 8, clearly her research was far beyond Dr. Brenner's. And I'm so upset no one bothered to acknowledge that. Who's to say she won't go back for Will since he tapped into Vecna? Kay won't care if that link has been severed, she'll experiment until he's dead. And same with the kids. There were other options but once again, El goes for the dumbest decisions because she lacks the ability to look at the big picture. Literally what Hopper has been trying to teach her since he took her in. There was seriously no reason to bring back Kali or introduce Dr. Kay here. They should've just kept focusing on the final battle with Vecna. I think they fell in the GOT final season pitfall. They hyped up the final battle for seasons then a 5 minutes boom it's done. And they had too much extra production time to have given us so many plot holes and unanswered questions. I'm getting major cash grab vibes because they added storylines that made no sense/didn't fit and put out a play and book to "give explanations." This season wasn't bad, it just didn't live up to its potential. But at the end of the day, I'm happy Max and Steve survived. I'm glad Steve found his purpose and I'm actually surprised I cared about the final proposal. Not that I didn't like them, I just focused on others. But once Hopper mentioned them moving, I suddenly really wanted him to have his much deserved happy ending and loved the proposal.

Megan

The exact moment I wished he got his 6 little nuggets. He showed great dad potential s2 onward but that moment with Derek made me want him to have his happy ever after.

ct

What a lazy, mediocre, and unengaged comment. Dumbing down people’s valid critiques as “You just don’t get it”. We do—and we still don’t like it. Now what?

Kaley

I think he does as a coach and I’d like to think he eventually has kids

Megan

I honestly think the Duffer brothers tried to do one more cash grab and hope to set up more sequels. They already did a play and a book. They retconned too much and added storylines that had no payoff. Kali and Dr. Kay had no point to the plot. I'm convinced the Duffers just don't know how to conclude storylines. They did this with the Russians, scientists, etc. After the monster fight, the people villains just go away. No ramifications and the gang isn't smarter for the experience. They don't approach problems any more differently.

ct

I’m glad it’s finally over. The substance of the story withered as time went on. If it dragged on even a bit more—the quality likely would’ve been obliterated. The duffer brothers had an amazing vision at the right moment (often paralleled Stephen Kings tropes) and it worked in their favor. I’m happy for them, but wish the storylines stayed tethered to what was established beforehand, and that there wasn’t so many loose ends. The finale felt rushed, which is another annoyance I had considering they had years to create the season. I’m not sure if it plays into the bigger picture of modern television and rise of streaming services cutting material—but I expected just a little more than what we got. It wasn’t horrible by any means though—just mediocre.

Tyler Daigle

I swear so many people see negative comments about this show on X and just parrot those opinions. There definitely are some things that could’ve been better this season, but people are acting like it’s garbage. Even people with profile pictures of a character from the show… like are you just watching it to engagement bait lol. Glad you guys enjoyed it.

Megan

I'm convinced that's the only reason they brought back Kali. Her and Dr. Kay were useless to the plot. They just didn't want to kill off any of the mains. Even with El, they decided to pull a "or is she" at the end. Commit. I don't care if you wanted all of them wiped out or all saved, just commit to a path. And I mentioned this in BM's s4 finale, I was holding this season to high standards. They were treading into GOT finale territory by taking even more production time to give out a final season. They had too much time across the board (almost 10 years for 42 episodes) to have this amount of plot holes and speed run the final boss fight. Don't get me wrong, I do like the teamwork and how the group (outside of El) attacked, but this should not have been an easy boss fight. I could see if we lacked any of the other monsters (bats, demodogs, demogorgans, etc.) because the final battle was in another world. I could see Vecna and the Mind Flayer not having the foresight to see them being able to reach there since they retconned and made it a wormhole, bridge, etc. And a completely new place that should've been unknown. I don't agree with the retcon but I could explain that away. But yeah, final boss(es) was handled too quickly.

Tyler Daigle

Will’s story was never a love story. That was the whole point. He had to learn to love and accept himself. Whoever he ends up with after the show is irrelevant to the story they were telling. They couldn’t add a whole love story with some random character in the epilogue.

mdl

The ending we got was pretty much what I expected. I think some of the blowback to the final episodes will mellow out over time. There's been shows with some truly awful endings but this isn't one of them. I will say that taking 3 and a half years probably had some fans creating expectations (and theories) that the creators couldn't match.

I'm Batman

Probably my least favorite season, that's not me saying it was bad though, the previous seasons I give 4.5-5/5's this one I'd give a 4/5. Pros: The ending, wrap up, was nearly perfect, cried a few times during all the wrap up stuff and love seeing Holly and her friends pick up the D&D game, kind of a passing of the torch. Dustin's graduation speech was the highlight of this episode for me personally. I can appreciate Will's coming out scene in episode 7, like Oak pointed out, it was necessary since Vecna's power is based in fear and Will didn't wanna jeopardize everyone's life by keeping that a secret from them. The music was A+ as usual, and the twist of having the upsidedown act as a bridge to another world was completely unexpected but in a good way. The cons: The final battle was over too quickly, didn't feel like much of a threat and the pacing was a bit too fast for my liking. That's about it though. As a season this is a 4/5 for me and as a series I'd say a 4.75/5. Not perfect like Breaking Bad or anything but the bar was so high it'd be tough to top the previous seasons.

Jan T

I loved this finale! Yes, I thought there was some unevenness through the middle of the season. I thought some of the primary cast were shortchanged in favour of new characters, who I wasn’t as invested in. But this finale gave me everything I wanted, and the characters I loved were all front and centre. I adored the lengthy epilogue. I’ve loved this show and these characters for 10 years. I appreciated every minute that was devoted to saying goodbye to them. They earned that time. I’ve seen so many big shows crash and burn at the end, to the point that I have no interest in ever watching them again, (I’m looking at you GoT, and Lost). But Stranger Things will now always be a show I can revisit, because they landed it so well. I’m very grateful for that. And I believe… ♥️♥️♥️

Stephen Hert

THIS. The strikes didn't help at all, and had we gotten the finale much earlier, I think there wouldn't have been as much blowback. But like you said, fans created way to many headcannons, and expectations, that they became disappointed.

Badd Medicine

Hello Ryan, we haven't stopped being "unfiltered" in any way. Latest example would be 3x10 of the bear that was posted on Tuesday. And there's more since Spirited Away. I appreciate your opinion here, but to say we've been resistant is not correct. 🤙

Cristy

I can't believe you guys didn't cry, lol. I was bawling from that moment with El to the end (and, yes, I did cry again on your watch). The amazing Purple Rain and Landslide needle drops added to the tears. Season 5 isn't my fave season but this was a great ending in my view. I love that they filmed the final scenes last because you could see the real emotions between them. Also, Jamie Campbell Bower deserves an Emmy. What a ride! Thanks guys for these watches, really appreciate it.

Cristy

Loved it too! The Duffers are amazing storytellers, the actors (especially the kids) all grew up to be amazing actors and the sets and 80s aesthetic, perfect. What bugs me in the criticisms is how some people just hate on it because their ship didn't end up together. Like that's life with a lot of shows and movies (and real life). It's no reason not to appreciate the show as a whole. I see the criticisms of the final battle being too short but I was greedy for an extended epilogue so didn't mind. Also, I don't mind the plot armour at all, people don't need to all die for the show to be good. I know shows that did it for shock value and I still hated it.

Marie RammGirl

Cool Eddie outfit Oak, this finale had you feeling every kind of emotion & a badass final fight with everyone, liked the "for Eddie!" line, visual/sound effects were amazing, it was fitting for Joyce to end it, nice touch of everyone's memories of past events as she dealt the fatal last blow & we just had that feeling we was gonna lose someone, I thought either Hopper or El with what's been said in previous episodes, but I would like to believe that heartfelt story of Mike's about El, loved how the last thing we saw them all doing together was D&D & I bet some of those were real tears when all our groups were sitting around chatting about life 1 last time, I would of NEVER watched this show if not for you guys doing it & now I'm a HUGE fan because of it, thank you guys for that & knew you think Randy Savage when you heard that tune hehe, Loved all your reactions & cheering to everything in this episode, we certainly went out with a banger! ❤️

Maisie

Imagine if at the end, instead of going upstairs, Mike crawls into El’s old fort in the basement, closes his eyes, and the last thing we see is them in the blackness with El coming up and saying “Hello Mike.” I mean the girl can talk across dimensions, she doesn't have to end up ALONE.

Ginger

Did they ever explain what happened to the Byers dog after season 1?

Rae

They didn’t explain it in the show. But back around when season 2 was airing an article was going around saying that the dog was not easy to work with and some of the actors complained about them. I wish they did address it in the show though.

Rae

I cannot explain to you how happy it made me to hear your reviews for this episode. After hearing all the hate from the last batch of episodes (not from anyone here, but other people online), it’s like a breath of fresh air to hear my favorite reactors give it praise. Because at the end of the day all of these actors ,actresses, and those behind the scenes worked so hard on this show and it deserves some love. 🥹 I absolutely loved this finale! And I am so happy you all loved it as well! Also love that Dustin’s did exactly what Eddie said he wanted to do at his graduation!

Alex

I was thinking this morning about the finale and I realized that the way that they did it with Mike's alternate theory make it really magical in a way that most of us probably haven't experienced since we were children. The alternate theory puts Eleven's fate in our imagination and by not really having any evidence that this is true, and by choosing to believe, it feels like being a kid again because we are forced to imagine El's future and that she grows up to get married and have kids and have that life that Hopper told her she could have. The fact that its put completely in our imaginations with absolutely nothing to go on it's almost like being a kid playing make believe again. And much of Stranger Things is about nostalgia about growing up in the 80s. I think this is the perfect way to end things and there's just something magical about the imagination of a child. Which really the imagination of a child is really the imagination of a human being, it's just that most of us leave that part of us behind when we grow up. It's still sad. Incredibly sad. But it gives us a hopeful "what if." And it makes Eleven's future story something in the world of fairy tale fantasy. LIke someone could come up with a fairy tale of how Eleven lived her life in that faraway land. Similar to the story Winona Ryder gave about Edward at the end of Edward Scissorhands. We never really see it, but she chooses to believe that he's still alive, because it never snowed there before he showed up. No evidence but this sense of fairy tale wonder.

Gail Ferguson

Class of '89 here! Everything was perfect.

Stefano Rafael

This season was enjoyable but compared to the other 4 was really bad… a bunch of plot holes, giving side characters more importance than the main ones, the scene where Will came out lasted longer than the final fight against the big bad guy of the entire series, where are the demogorgons in the fight btw? The demobats? Vecna is unfazed by bullets but the Mind Flayer is sensible to it… There was literally theories about Vecna breaking the 4th wall and he was manipulating the fans bc people couldn’t believe that this season was so poorly written 🫠

Josip Buretić

Yes this season was not my favorite and I personally didn't like the ending so much but still for me overall Stranger Things was a great show and I enjoyed it very much. To be honest if "you" are die hard fan you got to love this ending and there is nothing bad about it because I get that so many young people did grow up by watching this show and they will always feel different that we the older generation and that is fine with me. I am glad that we can here talk about stuff that we did and did not liked.

Josip Buretić

We need spinoff with Steve and his 6 nuggets 😉

Josip Buretić

Yes Megan that is also mine main complaint about Duffer Brothers this was their story and I also would like if they just committed to their path just like you said it doesn't matter if you want kill all or you want to save them but come on be committed and not at the end let the audience to decide how it ended.

Josip Buretić

Sorry Alex Eleven is dead there is no fairy tale wonder.....

Josip Buretić

I had to write that comment I hope you are not mad it was just a joke. You can decide for yourself how the ending goes I am to old for that 😉

Josip Buretić

Hehehe the vanishing of Byers dog soon on Netflix 😉

Cristy

I love this take, Alex.

Cristy

Isn't the stone part of the spin off show the Duffers are doing? That's probably why it wasn't explained further.

Ginger

I read David Harbour hated working with the dog. Maybe Hop killed it. 😝

Alex

Jesus Christ dude.. lighten up a bit? LMAO

Jaden Salas

I thought it was pretty obvious the demogorgons and bats were turned into the mind flayer's body in the abyss. Just like how the mindflayer particles turned the people in season 3 into it's body.

Jaden Salas

And as far as the bullets, we've already seen from previous seasons that the mindflayer and it's vessels are vulnerable to fire which the party uses during their short fight with it. As for the many plot holes, i had hope after reading theories of Vecna messing with their memories. I thought it was disappointing they weren't addressed or explained in the finale.

Jaden Salas

Yesss! Even if there were parts I wish were done better, I love this show so much and enjoyed the story anyway. I'm sad that its over, but so very happy that I got to grow up along the actors & their characters.

Alex

So tell me this Mr. Grinch.. Something that was pointed out to me: 1. How was Eleven able to give Mike the last goodbye with all the power dampeners turned on? 2. How was Eleven able to stand there motionless as the entire Upside Down was being torn apart around her?

yrag

I thought this was ok. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I'm not really a fan of El dying. They did the fake out death so many times over the course of the series and it was my biggest criticism of the writing. They wanted stakes and emotional impact without the commitment. Finally killing a main character (allegedly) at the very end and having it be El feels cheap to me. I'm not against the main character dying but it didn't feel earned here. Her character arc over the series was not naturally building to this, or if it was I don't think they did a very good job with the writing. Plus it kind of just rubbed me the wrong way. I can't exactly put my finger on it but something feels off about how she lived a life of trauma, a lot of which we in the audience saw, and then chooses death so others can live a normal life without her there. Last season was very good. It had a very solid arc. After seeing season 5 I really feel like it would have been much better to add one or two episodes to the end of season 4 and wrap it up with that season's story line. This season felt tacked on. It was messy. Like I said before, it wasn't terrible but it felt unnecessary.

Stefano Rafael

Bro that’s just not true at all 😅 the Duffer brothers just explained in a interview “Mainly it’s just that Vecna was not expecting this sneak attack on his home turf. Never in a million years could he even imagine that. They’re there somewhere”. Basically the most “we kinda forgot about them” comment I’ve ever heard. And we seen that the mind flayer is vulnerable to fire, not to BULLETS

Chelsea K

I might be one of few but I enjoyed the finale & how it wrapped stories up. There’s some critiques but I feel like most people look for those these days rather than the positive. Overall amazing show with great actors. Enjoyed your reactions.

Eboe Thrasher

Alex, also, her nose wasn't bleeding after she kicked Mike out.

Alright. In my lifetime, I have only seen one other show have a worldwide impact that topped Stranger Things, and that was Game of Thrones - and as a sidenote, I loved the last season of GOT. As for my opinion on Stranger Things’ previous outings, my feelings can be summarized as follows: S1 - Really good S2 - Hated it S3 - Loved it S4 - My favourite Suffice it to say, my excitement was through the roof… and boy, was I let down. So much so that I haven’t yet been able to force myself to rewatch from episode five onwards with you guys -meaning I’m completely oblivious to your thoughts. The main idea circling in my head, once it became apparent where the story was headed, was that this storyline didn’t warrant a season of its own. It reminded me of the third Hobbit film, which felt like a drawn-out battle sequence with no real beginning, middle, or end. While this season suffers from different issues, the sentiment remains the same. I firmly believe that with three more episodes, the series should have concluded in season four. And that’s based purely on the actual content - not even accounting for the myriad questionable and outright poor decisions within it. By incorporating another break after the finale of season four, the show would have benefited from an already established cadence, cut out the slog, and ultimately forced the Duffer Brothers to keep their vision tightly focused. That lack of focus is my central critique of this season. There was no overarching plan. While this was noticeable in previous seasons - through lore inconsistencies and sidelined subplots - it was never this glaring. They absolutely dropped the ball with Vecna. After a wonderful introduction in the previous season that firmly established him as worthy of the “Final Boss” title (couldn’t resist), he was reduced to a shadow of his former cunning, charm, and menace as the season progressed. The fault lies squarely with the writing. In my opinion, Jamie Campbell Bower did the best he could, often elevating weak material through sheer performance. Despite its pedal-to-the-metal approach, the season never truly got going. It was constantly interrupted by misplaced scenes that killed momentum and repeatedly pulled me out of the story: Jonathan and Nancy’s breakup; Eleven and Hopper’s rooftop conversation when the literal fate of the world rested on her shoulders; and Will’s coming-out scene, which completely halted the end of the penultimate episode. What should have been a crescendo toward the finale instead became painfully melodramatic. The scene made little sense thematically or creatively and should have been reserved for a far more intimate setting. The core characters we grew attached to from the beginning were pushed into the background in favour of far less interesting, underdeveloped, one-note supporting characters. The acting from the younger cast has never been more noticeable - and unfortunately, not in a good way. Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, and the actress playing Holly stood out for all the wrong reasons. I genuinely can’t recall a single scene in the second half of the season where Will wasn’t crying. Meanwhile, Millie Bobby Brown carried the same expression throughout - somewhere between defiance and pain, though what kind of pain, I couldn’t tell. Linda Hamilton: “wasted” doesn’t even begin to cover the absolute insignificance of her character. She did fuck all. A completely one-note role, best described as “angry military lady.” David Harbour, on the other hand, gave by far the strongest performance whenever he appeared - though, admittedly, he wasn’t on screen nearly enough. The only part I unequivocally loved was the extended epilogue, which served as a reminder that the writers are still capable of crafting genuinely poignant scenes without overindulging in nostalgia. All in all, an extremely disappointing season of what was once a genuinely fun show. Season 5: 2/5 Whole series: 3.7/5

Alex

Eboe, yeah I read that stuff. Even if the kryptonite wasn't affecting her, she would have to be using the full strength of her powers to just stand there unfazed by the entire upside down being sucked into space, and you'd see the stress of her trying to maintain the telekinesis. But even then that doesn't explain her not getting hit by any debris whatsoever. It wasn't flying around her, it was like flying behind her, but that's impossible coz the Upside Down is a 3 dimensional space. It's not like a video game where you see wind blowing in the background and debris flying and the character is in front of it. But even in the video game the character is usually being blown a little in the direction of the wind. I did read the Duffers did confirm she was dead, but people can lie :) There's too many inconsistencies, and of course they could have "forgot" to make her nose bleed or what not, but I don't think so. If you know the whole story on Montauk and how the story of Stranger Things has hundreds of things that are exactly like what allegedly happened in Montauk even to the point of the Demogorgon looking exactly the way the beast of Montauk was described.. The Duffer brothers are extremely meticulous and unlikely to "forget" something.

autumn

I’m so glad we were able to see how all of the characters lives were going after saving the world. Ughhhh, I almost never see shows/movies that let the viewers see how everyone’s life is after the big story. Or they just show us a quick glimpse of it 😪😪 So overall, I really enjoyed how stranger things ended. I also appreciated all the extra time to watch how the characters were continuing with their lives!! 🤞😋😋

LadyReignOfDreams

I was never a huge Stranger Things fan just with the Sci Fi stuff, but I watched when it first came out. Seeing the last season with you all after the critics from social media, was the best idea I had. Social media will always be more on the negative side, but I truly enjoyed this. The ONLY part I skipped through each Time was with Max and Holly lol also some of the other conversations that took forever to get through. All in all, it was great! over the meaning behind Purple Rain song which was perfect for the scene. Also they are all great actors, I felt emotions from all of them and definitely cried a bunch of times. It's bittersweet going through time with cast members that were children to adults, kinda of like Harry Potter, it's a tug feeling when it ends. Anyways great ride guys! Glad I waited to binge it all.

Aqib Ali

My favourite season: 1 5 4 2 3 I loved this season so much, if you watch it with passion and block out haters, you enjoy the show much more. The characters are what makes the show. It was never about death, it was always about finding the best version of yourself. The ending was inspiring and emotional. My mvps are holly, max, will, lucas and Henry. Hm are mike, Robin, Nancy, Dustin and maybe hop or el

Jaden Salas

I was agreeing with most of what you said. I just assumed the Mind Flayer got its physical form in the Abyss the same way it did in Hawkins in season 3. That would explain why bullets don't really matter and why Nancy couldn't do anything to stop it from nearly killing her. If the demos were what made up it's body it still should've been addressed on screen. I also didn't know the duffers said Vecna didn't expect it, I think that's a weak explanation for why there weren't any demos.

Paige

I’m late to the party here, but I’m so glad I watched this. I was really bummed at all the people hating on this season — especially the people who made fun of Will’s coming out scene. That moment of queer joy/acceptance meant so much to me and hearing Oak’s defense of it was so validating. Representation like this is important to see—and this is coming from someone who didn’t have a great coming out experience (with my parents and sister. Others were more accepting, like my little brother and friends).
