Crystal

Does this mean will also get the Wiz at some point and Oz the great and powerful? Would love for yall to watch the Wiz, it went diamond in my house growing up lol maybe during February for black history month.

Frank the Tank

Time to watch a classic. Even though this film wrecked the entire cast especially Judy Garland.

Liam

gotta love the asbestos snow haha

Emily G

You guys should watch Some Like it Hot, Singin in the Rain, or Sound of Music for another classic movie watch!

Badd Medicine

Hello. We did watch it with our good pal, Mr. Flicks. It's up on YouTube 😁🤙

Crystal

Oh, cool. I’ll check it out thanks!

Katie

Anytime I watch this now all I can think about is what all happened behind the scenes 😬

I'm Batman

Childhood movie right here, seeing how y'all have watched some of the older movies like this one, It's A Wonderful Life, and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, maybe it's possible to get some more like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Heidi (Shirley Temple version), etc.

L

I realize Wicked (the book, musical, and then movie) is essentially fanfiction based on the wizard of oz, but seeing this childhood movie after Wicked makes me think so much more about the characters

Megan D

It is important to remember that Wicked is not an “official” prequel to The Wizard of Oz. That being said I still love the original and Wicked

Ronny H

My childhood... my Father, God rest his soul, made sure I watched this when I was a kid... this AND the Wiz 😊

Maisie

This was such a treat. Fun Fact: Shirley Temple was originally supposed to play Dorothy!

I'm Batman

So it's a common misconception, The Wizard Of Oz isn't the first film to have color, there had been a handful of other films before it to have color as well, but many if not all of them movies have been lost. The Wizard Of Oz just popularized color in movies.

vaygatti

Mason Quinn: "God, I'm so interested about the making of this now!" Moments before disaster...😬

Stephen Hert

For sure. That’s a rabbit hole in itself.

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

This wasn't the first movie made in color, but it's certainly the most famous early color film, and one that used color as an actual plot point to the effect that this one does. The credits for the set and costume design and all of that are on the screen at the beginning of the movie - you guys were chatting at the time, and you weren't looking for them because they don't do it that way anymore. When you watch Wicked For Good, remember it's not a one-to-one parallel - it's a totally different take on the story (but do take note of the title font 😉). Would love to see you guys react to the making of video, and would REALLY love it if we got to do what Answer talked about and get a reaction to Singin' in the Rain - the best movie musical and one of the best movies period!

Anthony Velasquez

Always a fun movie seen it quite a bit cant wait for your Wicked reaction tmrw

I'm Batman

This film is quite literally perfection in my eyes. I wouldn't change a single thing about it. Kinda wish movies today did credits like they did back then, showing us who was part of writing the script, set designs, costumes, etc. in the beginning of the movie, because in today's day and age not many people is sticking around to watch credits after the movie is over with, unless it's been stated that there's a post credit or mid credit scene. But anyways, next to The Lord Of The Rings this is a movie I watch the most throughout the year, just can't get enough of it lol, obviously a 5/5 for me.

Kollie123

Watching this in prep for wicked for good is pretty funny because wicked doesn’t actually line up with the original movie like at all lol

MB

I had this movie on VHS as a kid in the 90s and it had a “making of” after the feature on the same tape! You should try and see if there’s a digital version if you’re interested! It was super inspiring to me as a kid. I vividly remember them showing the trap door they built so the witch could disappear in Munchkin Land.

Justin Russell

I second Answer’s comment on watching Singing in the Rain that’s been a favorite since I was 7! Incredible incredible choreography and songs and Gene Kelly is 🤌🤌

Maisie

They would LOVE it.

LiveLaughLoveZonZon

Hi. I recommend watching Tori (aka TheOzVlog) on TikTok and YouTube if you want to find out more about the stories of the sets etc. she is an Oz historian, and also has one of the largest “Wizard of Oz” collections. It’s a common misconception that they used “abestos” for the snow, but it was actually “Gypsum” ☺️ Also, I hope you go into watching Wicked Part 2 remembering that it’s not a remake of “The Wizard of Oz”. Instead it’s a retelling that followed the novel “wicked” and the play “wicked” ☺️

Kaley

You can probably tell how much Ted Lasso is based off of this: Ted being from Kansas, wearing red trainers, Beard being his Toto, helping Rebecca find courage, helping Roy find his heart and helping Jamie become smarter! 😉

Kaley

I love Tori!

Kaley

Oh singing in the rain is so good!

Kollie123

No it doesn’t lol, like yes the basic plot outline matches up, but the characters stuff clearly doesn’t, Glinda is magic less in wicked and clearly cast a spell in this during the flower scene. There’s plenty of other things that dont line up

Aub

Loved your reaction to this!!! I always loved watching this film with my grandma 🥰 I know you guys probably already know this, but I highly suggest not going into Wicked: For Good thinking it’s going to align completely with this film. It is its own completely separate telling of a story. I know Answer is a fan of the broadway show so I’m fairly hopeful you guys won’t have an issue with it 😊

ShaniaBADDIE4LIFE🤘🐶🐱✨

The Wizard Of Badd Medicine: Answer is Dorothy, Scarecrow is Mason Quinn, Cowardly lion is Oak and than Tinman is Diamond Dave. 😂

Ginger

You talk about the lack of credits at the end, but there were a lot more at the beginning that you guys talked through.

Knightmare

omg!!!!!!! i forgot this was happening. so excited to dive into this again, i haven't seen it in like 2 years!

Splint Reacts

It's probably also important to remember that Wicked: For Good is a continuation not a sequel.

Ana

I wish you guys reacted to this after wicked for good because a lot of reactors keep comparing and not realizing it’s two separate things

Ana

This movie has been one of my favorites since I was little girl I know it through and through.

Donna Castellano

She was considered but when they found out how lacking she was in the singing department, they nixed that idea really quick.

Lauren

I belly laughed so hard at this reaction.

Donna Castellano

The movie follows the basic story of the book fairly closely. The major points, at least. The Wicked Witch only appears on half a page, where they meet and kill her, and she's definitely not green. There's a lot of questing post-Wizard sidequesting in the book, since they half to travel to the South to Glinda's territory, so she can help Dorothy get home. It's so interesting that all the real power in Oz is held by women. The four witches - good or bad - were the most powerful beings. They did leave out a lot about what happened to the Tin Man and the Lion. The Lion took over ruling a forest close to where Glinda lives and the Tin Man took over the Winkie nation - the Witch of the West had taken over their land and enslaved them, along with the Flying Monkeys. I really recommend checking out Baum's books. They are so much fun and get darker as they go along, which leads me to my next remark... Please check out Return to Oz. It combines elements of the next two books in the Oz series - The Marvelous Land of Oz and Ozma of Oz - and very much reflects how dark those stories get. Especially Ozma of Oz. Fairuza Balk plays Dorothy and it's presented in line with the reality of the books - Oz is real and Dorothy wasn't dreaming the entire thing, like the '39 movie. So many reactors just skip it and it's such a great flick. The tone - again - very different from this and more inline with Baum's books. I watched the first Wicked movie (I'll watch the second once it's on regular streaming) and while it's entertaining, I don't care for how people are taking it as actual history for any of the established Oz characters. It's fun as fan Fiction but that's all it is. I don't count any of the books written about Oz not written by Baum as actual Oz Canon either, and there are A LOT. I do hope you consider checking out Return to Oz tho.

Maisie

Not true! She was dropped because she was supposed to be part of an actor trade between studios, but one of the other actors died. At that time, each studio essentially had a stable full of actors that were exclusive to that studio, so in order to be in a movie produced by another studio they had to be traded or loaned out by their home studio. While Shirley Temple was not nearly as good a singer as Judy Garland, she was by far the biggest female star of the era and also much closer in age to the character of Dorothy, so they would have gone with her anyway just for the box office draw.

Aubrey

Diamond Dave was talking about wanting to see a tornado close up. Maybe y'all should team up with some storm chasing content creators and do it as bonus content! I've been present for the four major tornadoes that have hit Moore, OK, since 1999. I was a student at OU in 99 and actively emergency dispatching for the other 3. I'll skip the long winded story, but during the 2013 EF5, I was in a police car running code straight at it for what felt like forever. 0 out of 10, do not recommend.

Isaiah

great reaction guys! just remember going into wicked for good, wicked is technically only fan fiction, it’s not cannon to this movie

Chynna Bartee

Great reaction as always my fine gentleman! Every time I think about this movie I always remembered my granma being only 5yrs old when this came out and hearing her experience as a young African American girl being able to have the privilege to see this on the big screen which was a rare opportunity for people of color back in the day to get to see. She will be 92 next month and still till this day sings “some where over the rainbow”

Juley

That was fun!!!! And I’m totally here for Gone With the Wind!

Alanna Meyers 🍌

That’s amazing. Thank you for sharing about your grandmother, she sounds like a sweetheart 😊

Esther K

Please react to Gone With the Wind. The story in itself is epic. I'm 47, and I've watched it countless times, and each time I'm still in awe of the production quality and the manpower that went into it. It's in my top 5 favorite movies. Four hour movie, though. If you react straight through without breaks, I'd be really impressed.

JokerDanny

You should also check out Oz: The Great and Powerful (2013) it's the Wizard's origin story, and also Return To Oz (1985) which is a dark kind of sequel to the Wizard of Oz.

Jane Avery

Fun fact: The colorful horses were done by coating white horses with different flavors of Jello! It's amazing that they got such vibrant coloring from Jello, it's so cool!

Aria Isara

Back then I think they still had the obligation to put the credits first

Aria Isara

Until some point they were obligated to put the credits first, which makes sense to me, but I guess people got too impatient and complained about having to sit through them or something 😩

Aria Isara

I just googled it because of another comment and YIKES 💀 I wasn't interested in the movie before, even less now lol

Aria Isara

Some Like It Hot is one of my all time fav movies!

Aria Isara

I saw some bits of this movie a long time ago, tbh I don't care much for it so I think I'll pass on this reaction but I'd love it if the guys reacted to more old classics. The Great Dictator (Chaplin) and Some Like It Hot are among my all time favourites, also the 1946 French classic Children Of Paradise, and some internationally renowned Indian classics like Awaara or Anand 🙂

I'm Batman

Not surprised, wish it would come back tbh.

vaygatti

That pretty much sums it up 🫤

vaygatti

In my mind, Wicked is canon.

Katie

Yeah it’s bad 😬 I saw the link you posted in the other comment and that’s just the tip of the ice berg

Cristy

Definitely not the first movie in colour. I've been wanting to recommend The Adventures of Robin Hood from 1938 that was filmed in technicolour too (but it's not on the movie database you've got) because it's so good. Toto was a female Cairn Terrier named Terry, who became a canine movie star, appearing in over 16 films, though Oz was her only credited role. She was even paid more than some munchkin actors earning $125 a week. She was briefly injured during filming, recuperating at Judy Garland's home, as they formed a strong bond.

So Tired

30:15 Quinn: "God I'm so interested about the making of this now." 💀 39:05 Dave: "Gosh. I'm with you now Quinn. I kinda wanna see what behind the scenes." ☠️ 45:10 Oak: "I'm interested in the makeup where they did Scarecrow's head down into his chin and stuff."👀

Aria Isara

Sadly a lot of movies have horror stories about the treatment of actors and it's not even just old movies 😖

Aubrey

In answer to the boys' more technical question, I hit up my in-house expert (daughter with a film degree). She said that even though color was possible as early as the early 1900s, the technology and set design were still relatively limited and it was so cost-prohibitive that it just didn't make sense. She said that technology didn't really start to catch up until post-WWII when the French New Wave just kind of revolutionized how the world viewed filmmaking.

Matthew Glover

Yea the 2013 one is actually alot of fun. I never really cared much for Jame Franco's acting, but the movie is worth a watch in my opinion.

Jess

Gone with the Wind is my mom's favorite book! She loves the movie as well, but she said she always tucked herself up in their barn growing up with an apple and a book, which was usually Gone with the Wind. I have to say my favorite bit is the "Went with the Wind" sketch from The Carol Burnett Show 🤣

Thomas Holycross

Both Wicked movies are an abomination to the original 1900 book and the 1939 movie. Both Wicked movies were the result of corporate greed: get rich off these lousy films. They deliberately split the movie in two to make twice as much money, and now hint at a third one. The ending of Wicked For Good is one of the worse endings ever. "Wicked" shouldn't even be in the title, it should be "Kind For Good".
