The facial crack on the thumbnail looks elevated on my phone. I tried wiping an illusion black string off my screen

You guys are right that this a movie which really benefits from re-watching. It won't "answer" your questions -- it's all open to interpretation -- but you'll see so many more things to make you question everything. My PERSONAL interpretation is that all of Nina's conflicts with other people really happened, but not in the way that we see. Her mother was overbearing and infantilized her, but Nina probably just stormed out instead of breaking her hand (Because we see her mother in the audience at the end without any injuries). Thomas was manipulative and sexually harassing her, but probably just in private and 'intimately', instead of 'seducing' her in front of everybody else. Lily probably tried to befriend her and ALSO hoped that maybe she couldn't cut it and would drop out so she would get the role. All of this ran through Nina's slowly crumbling mental perceptions and so they took on larger proportions.

Brittany Murphy was on track to get the role that ultimately went to Mila. I would have loved to see her in this role

Eh, the anime was better... Yes, while the creator denies it, this movie is, if not based on, at least heavily influenced by the anime movie Perfect Blue, which is about a pop idol quitting her group to branch out to become a movie star, only for things to go ... weird. Several themes of the movies, as well as several scenes are directly taken from Perfect Blue (the bathtub scene, the "the character's talking to their other self in the mirror" scenes, them finding the room of their stalker with all those pictures at the walls, the final confrontation. It's nearly a 1:1 rip-off of those exact scenes from Perfect Blue)
