This is my favorite part of Sunday!

Fun fact: Sherlock's parents are played by Benedict Cumberbatch's actual parents :)

Some facts about this ep - Amanda Abington who plays Mary, was at the time, married to Martin Freeman and those were Benedict's actual parents. I really love this iteration of Mary because they quickly establish she's not there to be a conflict between John and Sherlock, but more an instigator of their friendship. This season is up there for me, with every episode being fantastic. No middle season slump!

The crazy explanations are a nod to the fans of the show that spent nearly two years coming up with wild explanations and theories. Derren Brown (the hypnotist) is a famous British magician/performer in the UK. Would recomend his stuff.

Everyone's reactions to Molly's new boyfriend is cause he's dressed exactly like Sherlock, same coat, shoes, curly hair etc

Why did I chuckle at answer asking what 'thrush' was lol

Charity Konusser (the chonus)

They weren't married - they were partners for 16 years and referred to each other as such. At one point Freeman made a joke to an interviewer that maybe they got married in secret and nobody knew, but there's nothing to suggest that.

Lauren

I can’t wait until you guys see this season’s main villain - the slimiest villain in the canon. And they will definitely address why John got kidnapped in this episode.

Doriegom

you really brought me back to the show! Loved it years ago but now I couldn't wait for the new episode reactions anymore and rewatched all seasons in a weekend and honestly I forgot a lot so it was kinda like watching for the first time while knowing some important plot points. I think Mary really brings a fresh wind into the relationship between John and Sherlock, she is probably one of the reasons Sherlock is slowly going more human than he was before but it's really impressive to see him now compared to season one. Major character development and we love to see it. For the mystery of how it was done (the track on the OST is called exactly that and it's one of my favorite songs from the whole show!) I remember being slightly frustrated when it came out cause I expected an explanation that would take me off of my feet. And now looking back I'm very happy with the way they did it and everything else would be spoilers so I'll stop there. :) I really enjoy your reactions and I can't wait to see what you think about the next two episodes for starters. Trying my best to be patient.

In the novella ‘The Adventure of the Empty House’, in which Sherlock Holmes returns after his ‘death’, he explains to Watson that he faked his death because he had to catch all of Moriarty’s accomplices and dismantle his criminal network. That is what they do in this novella. In the novella, he comes to Watson disguised as a book seller in the guise of an old man, for the first time since his return, to tell him that he is alive. The first episode of the third season was released at almost the same time as the film The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The Hobbit was released a little earlier. And there were a lot of jokes at the time that Watson shouldn't be too happy and shout ‘I'm so glad to see you’ when he meets Sherlock, referring, of course, to when Bilbo met Smaug.

I remember the first time I watched this, also thinking the "explanation" was too far fetched even for Sherlock. It doesn't match up, like you said, and that blatantly obvious rope tied to him that you'd see even as far away as Watson was. It's like they tied a gym climbing rope around him. 😂😂😂

Moffat loved mini-episodes; he did so many for Doctor Who, and they were fun little ways to connect seasons or episodes. The Sherlock one, too, was so fun, and after such a long wait, this was the first thing we got, which is a nice "We are back" to the audience. xD Also, if you liked the "how real time matched with what the video is saying," you would love Doctor Who. They have fun things like that, too. The theories for how Sherlock survived were wide and vast, some plausible and some not so much. I like how they made Anderson represent the fandom at the time. I think this episode is one of the most humorous of the series. So excited for next week to see you react to the next one!

Considering the day John is having (one patient after another with genital- and genital-related issues) it was likely vaginal thrush rather than oral thrush, and it's more commonly referred to as Candida or Candidiasis in the U.S. - better known as thrush in the U.K. So I wouldn't imagine it being something Answer (or any of them) would recognize as a word.

two pennies no waiting

Ok was it just me or did Oak's "long haired Sherlock running through the forest" mentally auto-finish with "picking up the field mice and bopping them on the head" for anyone else?

LennoXeno

Most reactors don't tbh lol

Alex

I remember watching this when it first dropped and we lost our damn minds at the fake Molly kiss and the fake Moriarty almost kiss Tumblr was goiing CRAZY

The mini episode was a nice little taster for S3, the timing of the dialogue when John was watching Sherlock was eerily coincidence!. They sure made that final scene in S2 VERY realistic/convincing, but we never truly got the answer about it & everyone's reactions to finding out the truth about Sherlock was gold! especially John's one was pretty much expected & was entertaining that Sherlock got him not once, but twice! your reactions to all of that & this whole episode was great! & 'Guy Fawkes' type storyline is always fascinating, a very good start to S3!.

The restaurant scene is my favourite Watson moment. Martin Freeman absolutely nailed how all those emotions crash into Watson at once - shock, anger, betrayal, and deep hurt. You can see it all in his eyes and body language. Top-notch 🤌 Since you didn't mention it, the scene with Molly and her new boyfriend: She insists she’s moved on from Sherlock… and then arrives with a man who looks suspiciously like him 🤭 PS: there's a reason why Watson got kidnapped. See this episode as an introduction of this season's villain (with the main focus lying on Sherlock's return).
