I think people were saying that the musical Rent should be watched for context before Tik Tik Boom? Also in a way it would be great to watch just after Moulin Rouge since AFAIK Rent is based the 19th century novel Scenes of Bohemian Life and it also deeply inspired Moulin Rouge.

Not really, watching TTB before Rent will give them a better appreciation for Rent when they watch it because they'll see what went into it and how a lot of it reflects his actual life and experiences as an artist in New York

I wish it would have stood a chance I love In the Heights but based off it only having 24% of the vote on here and 9% in the youtube member vote I knew it has no chance of winning went with Tick Tick Boom given its the closest to competing with Moulin Rouge not big on jukebox musicals but I think Moulin Rouge is winning

The original stage musical, sure, but the film was made after Rent had become a huge property and it reflects that effect on the culture. Anyone who saw Tick Tick Boom the movie had already seen Rent.

I literally could not stand the movie version of in the heights, the stage version is so so so much better, but if you haven’t seen or listened to it i can see how some would love ITH the movie. Its not a bad movie but they changed so much I couldn’t get into it

Moulin Rouge is a visual masterpiece, with very original visuals that also have meaning in the story (it's not fancy just for the sake of it). It's inspired by Scenes of Bohemian Life (19th century novel) which also inspired Rent, the musical created by Jonathan Larson. Tick Tick Boom is a biopic on how Larson started his career. The director of Moulin Rouge did a lot of research on Paris in the late 19th century, specifically the "Bohemian life" and subculture of cabarets. People who don't know anything about it tend to think the movie is too unrealistic, I remember people saying it was dumb to show a giant fake elephant in the gardens of the cabaret... except it WAS a real thing at the time, and there was even a room to smoke opium (they didn't even show it in the movie). It was a wild time/place and the movie captures that extremely well in the background of a beautiful love story. Many of the songs (not all if I'm not mistaken) are covers of famous pop songs.

I was in high school, I saw it in theaters with my best friend, after the first 30 min or so when it calms down my friend said "that was good, but that was a lot" 😂😂 My other best friend had seen it before us, she disliked it but after rewatching it she ended up liking it. The style can definitely take people aback, some people will need a bit of time to digest the movie. It has happened to me with other movies like Dil Se or Pan's Labyrinth, where I wasn't too sure how I felt but they became some of my all time favs, but for Moulin Rouge I loved it immediately, that time period has always appealed to me, as a teen before the movie I started collecting old postcards from the late 19th century/early 20th, and I've always loved cabaret stuff as far back as kindergarten. I have old postcards showing the Moulin Rouge. I'll try posting pics in the chat in case other fans find it interesting 😊
