This is my favorite episode but so sad how people eith disabilities are treated

cait

this episode is so sad omg :'( didn't expect this mood at all

Ellie

It was because of this show that I learned that dolphins are actually whales!

Ellie

And yes, this was an incredibly tough episode 😞

"Living with an autistic person is indeed quite lonely." That punched me straight in the gut. It's the best description I've ever heard. Relationships are generally give and take. The more severe the expression of ASD, the less someone is *usually* able to reciprocate/give back. It can be exhausting, maddening, saddening living with my family member. People like the client's mother, who take on so much of the care, deserve so much respect and support.

Katie

I’ve learned so much about Whales because of this show lol

Lauren

This is the episode that hooked me to the show. Such smart, compelling, and compassionate writing.

Knightmare

Quitting in episode THREE is diabolical considering there are 16 episodes 😭

When it looked like Jeonghun was playing the piano, and when he was trilling, he was stimming! Stims are repeated physical or vocal movements that help neurodivergent people (like me! I’m autistic) regulate stress, and self-soothe. The types of stims vary from person to person but as an autistic person, watching someone else stim can compel me into stimming (kinda a similar compulsion to yawning after someone else, at least that’s how it feels like to me). So when Youngwoo started doing it too, that’s what was happening—his stimming made her want to stim too. Stims can also be reflections of happiness/giddiness! My own personal stims include shaking my wrists, clicking my teeth to a rhythm, swaying side to side, a throat-trilling sound, singing (yes, singing can be a stim!), shaking my hands while rocking to-and-fro, and gently slapping my knees. There is still unfortunately a lot of stigma against stimming (it’s “weird” or “annoying” or “cringe” or even “freaky”) but less than there used to be. The more people know what it actually is, the less it gets stigmatized.

I appreciated Oak mentioning people on the spectrum who understand that they’re Autistic and different. I’m one of those people and I genuinely don’t have anything good to say about having autism. Feeling and seeing the difference is something I hate so much. I’m currently in therapy with an autism specialist who’s trying to help me find the positives in it, but it’s a struggle. I really appreciated that the show did show the reality of it. I love this show, can’t wait for you guys to see the rest!

A hard watch but an episode with deep meaning and great writing, love it and love your reaction

Marie RammGirl

LOVE the looks of total glee on your faces when ya see Woo talk about Whales/gets the 'gust of wind' epiphany & thought that was such a sweet gesture of him holding the lift for Woo, the Pengu song & your reactions for it was great, a bright scene in a somewhat dark heavy subject matter episode, our soul just felt for the Father when Woo was a Child, also my heart sank at that ending & how Woo felt about how people "see" her, she still did an excellent job on the case, but it seems her confidence is shaken, this can't be the last we see of her as Lawyer, we need more Woo & her Whales!.

Bekka NoyB

me too! Was enjoying the series, but this episode reeled me in completely!

This is the episode that really dropped the hammer emotionally. Fully showing the true range of the show. Can be funny, romantic, magical, but also heart wrenching & serious! Think this was the episode that fully hooked me. Love all the use of animations on the show (especially the 'whale epiphanies')! The prosecutor using Woo's autism against her & the judge allowing it really irked me! The Karaoke scene & Woo's rapping! ♥ Park Eun-bin is simply amazing in this series! The ending is just heartbreaking!

Ryan Towell

I watched this show when it first came out due to Park Eun-bin and watching her in "The Kings Affection". But rewatching it again here, it's so good and her mannerisms are so good. She's one of those actors that can totally suck you into this world and sell it with just an expression of her eyes. She is such a great actress. But this show is good I wish they would have done more than one season but it seems like a lot of these shows are a one series type series.

Ryan Towell

yeah I wish they'd do at least 2 episodes a week. I also hope they react to "The King's Affection" starring Park Eun-bin.

Andrew

I thought I saw somewhere it was getting a second season. But not anytime soon.

gen

It’s currently in production

karla

Yeah, this is really heavy and shows reality. The crazy thing about those comments is that people actually write that kind of discriminatory stuff online, and others even like it…

I love seeing all the autistic people in the comments. The joke that we only watch a handful of shows over and over always made me think we must be rampant amongst the subscribers of reaction channels. My son and I are both autistic. We’re in different spots on spectrum and I may have never discovered my autism had it not been for him. Of course we are a bit different, but we’re alike in so many ways. The way that people assume I’m neurotypical and talk about autism around me is horrifying. Hearing some guy think it’s cool and edgy to use “autistic” like an insult or a casual replacement for the word weird—even the way well-meaning people talk about my son to me (or worse, in front of his face as if he can’t hear them) is just…unsettling. He and I recently had a conversation about autism and he’s starting to understand what it is and why he’s different. I never want him to feel the way I did as a kid. I grew up having meltdowns and big emotions and extreme sensitivities. At the same time, I was “good” and did well in school so my autism was a problem that was only affecting me. All my autistic traits were labeled as difficult, dramatic, spoiled, etc. For so long I hated myself because I didn’t understand why I was the way I am. Having an autistic kid saved my life in a lot of ways because it gave me the answers to so many questions I had been asking about myself. It’s hard knowing there will never be a day that I wake up and just stop feeling this weight, but now instead of carrying with shame I have a name for it. And more importantly the skills to support it. And that’s my TED Talk. Sorry for the novel, ya’ll ✌️

Love your reactions to each episode. I appreciate Oak speaking about the spectrum of autism. My daughter has autism and I relate to Woo's father so much! It is very lonely, especially when they're younger. Everybody wants their child to be a cuddly teddy bear but autistic kids are more like porcupines and you have to love the porcupine, they don't have to change for you. My daughter is 21 now and after much work we have a great relationship. I heard so much ridiculous stuff when she was younger. A woman was talking about her niece looking at colleges. When I mentioned my daughter was too she said, "Oh trade school or community college?" My daughter will graduate summa cum laude from USC this May with a double major in Film and Literature🙂

Ellie

Thank you so much for sharing this, I very much enjoyed reading your Ted Talk ❤️

krissy

You’re welcome!! Thank you for taking the time to read it and respond. 💖

Okay I’m autistic and now I feel like I need to start watching this show. I was scrolling and saw people saying “autism” and was like “wait what”. I’ve been summoned

Kaley

I’ve never been officially diagnosed but I’m pretty sure I am somewhere on the spectrum. The frustrating thing is that there’s such a stigma about it still, even today. As Oak said “outside” people (neurotypical people) sometimes view autism is inherently bad but it’s just different or unique, and that’s fine!

Megan D

I’m on the spectrum too. It’s very good and I think it had some very good representation. A word of warning, this takes place in South Korea and not America or the west so “societal” norms are very different. You might be confused or surprised if you don’t know a lot about South Korean society.
