As I said on the website while I don’t wanna give any spoilers… all I’ll say is that trust the writing in this show. There is a reason it was sooo highly thought of in s.k by the autistic spectrum community and their families and friends. Also these kinds of discussions are absolutely meant to happen after each ep and each case. :). And yes the show keeps getting better and better. <3

Ellie

After this post-episode discussion, I'm even more eager to see the reactions/hear the discussions for the rest of the episodes. No spoilers, of course, so I can't say much, just that I think the show does a wonderful job exploring the different topics that the guys brought up today. Overall, the show does a great job at bringing forth topics of discussion that are very much not black and white. Badd Medicine is always so thoughtful with their discussions, so I'm excited to hear their takes on where the show goes from here :)

Mari Vaz

About the staged fight -it takes two - Rami started by provoking her uncles, but they escalated by assaulting her and the father. If they ignored her, the case would be over in their favor.

Ashley K

I love Geu-rami 😂 and I’m loving the post discussions! When was the last time MQ got riled up lol

Knightmare

Wow. It takes a lot of fortitude to be so stand-up toward people that have totally wronged you, especially when its to the level of putting your own brother 260 million in debt. That would RUIN generations. The best friend's father is strong af! 😵‍💫 And I hear Mason Quinn's argument, but all I have is to say it that I saw EVIDENCE of the brothers performing deception, but I didn't see any evidence of anybody setting up at fight. They didn't even have slide glances towards eachother during that fight; and it totally lines up to the best friend's characters that she would walk into a memorial drunk. 🤔 It's written into the law that committing a crime between a gift receiver and giver allow the giver to take the gift back. That's not dirty, it's the law. All circumstances considered, assault and battery wouldn't be all that unexpected if this is the context of the gift. Who's to say it wasn't natural and no one suggested it to them and Attorney Woo just took advantage of it because she has every rule in the book memorized?

Jane Ling

All in for more discussions because we will get not just black and white... a lot of grey-shades.

Georgia Young

I have to say, I completely agree with Oak in the end discussion there. The whole romance part of it is actually why I stopped watching it around 8/9 episodes in. I just found it a bit uncomfortable. Re-watching it now is warming me up to it more, I will say, but I’m still kinda ehhhh on it.

gen

OAK!! I loveee that you mentioned all of those things at the end of the discussion. The writing addresses all of those concerns actually and they do treat it with the seriousness it deserves in my opinion. I hope that isnt much of a spoiler, but since you said it made you a little uncomfortable I just wanted to say that yes those things are addressed in the show. We'll see what you boys think once we get to those episodes, but just know its not something overlooked by the writers (and it meant a lot that it wasnt something overlooked by you either!) 🤟

Mari

I'm excited to see Oak's reaction in the coming episodes. I understand what he meant and I had a bit similar reaction in the beginning of the series but later on, I had a better understanding. That's why I find the writing really good and this is one of my favorite of all time. We've seen Good Doctor (Korean Drama) and I think The Pitt is also in that topic in the current season.

Mari

Off topic, I love your pfp. Fellow 💎

Katie Madsen

Appreciate you guys discussion at the end. I'm autistic and engaged to someone who isn't, and it does bring difficulty sometimes, for example I have issues with physical touch similar to Young-woo- but interabled relationships can definitely work and I love that this show displays all the different experiences autistic people can have <3 I'm excited to keep going on this journey with you guys and it's nice that you all have so much love for Attorney Woo. Definitely understand your caution when it comes to Jun-ho and Young-woo!

ias

I'm with Oak and Answer here, for me attorney Woo did eveything by the books. I feel that was a turning point to her too because she learned that it's not because something is in the law or you promised that you're not going to lie that all people will respect that. I also feel Geulami could've stage anything she wanted. Is not on her (or attorney Woo) if two old dudes decide to hit their niece. And Oak you concern is valid and it's addressed in the show eventually. I really like how they portrayed autism and all of these nuances that come along with it. Hope you do too, but we'll see!

ias

Diamond Dave looking different today guys

Georgia Young

Ayyy I love seeing a Shawol in the wild!! <3

Tania R

Just on Mason Quinn’s point - I saw it differently. Woo was explaining the law to her client: that a gift contract can be void if an act of violence occurs. What a lawyer advises and what a client then chooses to do with that information are not the same thing, and not something she can control. She wasn’t there, and there’s no indication she staged anything. When the opposition’s lawyer raised that exact question in court, she handled it exactly right - asking if there was any evidence, in front of the judge, giving them the chance to argue it if they had it. So legally, she did everything by the book. I’m with Oak and Andrew on this. 💛

Lauren

I like the way Woo won the case because it reflects what the boss said about her - that she doesn’t give up and thinks outside the box. She found a clever way to win the case and allowed her friend to help with it. And the romance between Woo and Jun-Ho is done very well and respectfully. Trust the process.

Harlee

Hey Oak, trust the writing. Also, completely get Quinn RE: the fight. This show is about Woo’s development. Each case challenges a way of thinking. In this episode she learned that people lie.

wes

I just remembered a good kdrama if its not too slow; Because this is my first life. Its so good.

Gail Ferguson

If it helps, Oak, you can say neurotypical (a person without autism or adhd) and neurodivergent (persons with autism, adhd, and other cognitively different existances). My clients and my family use these phrases (my youngest and my grandchild are neurodivergent).

Bekka NoyB

This was a much needed dose of levity after the gut punch of the last episode! Great seeing the beginning of Woo & Geu-ra-mi's friendship. Everyone needs a ride or die bestie like her! ♥ their greeting! Gotta ♥ Geu-ra-mi's fashion! Such a unique individual. Geu-ra-mi crushing on Kwon made me giggle. Like how she caught on to Jun-ho's feelings for Woo right away! Love Woo throwing the opposition lawyer's lines back in his face. Burn! Like how Jung didn't accept her resignation right away. Giving her much time to reconsider. Plus encouraging her to take on the case. ♥ that sunset scene! Great cinematography! Jun-ho's line bout wanting Woo by his side! ♥ Like Woo's little scheme (& Geu-ra-mi's performance) to get the inheritance agreement annulled! Neat seeing Jung appreciate Woo's judicial skills and telling Kwon how he could learn from her. Jun-Ho showing Woo the whale mural. So sweet! When we were in Tokyo a few years back we seen a giant whale photo on a building & first thing I thought of was that scene. Like how she let's Geu-ra-mi hug her (albeit tentatively). On first watch, I had So many questions after that final scene! Who was her mom? Has she been on the show? Is she still alive? I got to know - NOW! :D

Rawaby 1204

One of my favorite episodes, the discussion was fire I love the tension it was like another court 😂 I understand what oak was saying about the romance part but my only comment would be let’s keep watching and see how it will goes

Marie RammGirl

Nothing I hate more than bullies, seeing those scenes made my blood boil, should send Moon from The Glory after them! nice seeing how her friendship with Geu-Ra-Mi began & blossomed. Liked the way they convinced Woo to come back for the case, shows they all see her as part of their team. Those Brothers didn't deserve that money, they are Lucky they have a caring younger Brother. The interactions between Jun-Ho/Woo are so sweet/innocent, was a wonderful gesture there knowing how much she loves whales, I was hoping she would take his gift out of the trash & see what it was when she returned. What a spirited post discussion that was! Think ya was little hard on Quinn as we get the point he was trying to make, but shows how invested ya all are in the show with discussions like this. Also it was cool to recognise some Actors from S3 of Squid Game & The Glory too.

GoWonderful

The brothers didn't have to assault Dong-Sam and Ram-mi, so any evidence was voluntarily provided by them. Woo Young Woo didn't ask her client to get assaulted or the brothers to assault them. She just explained the law to Dom-Sam and Ram-mi. Woo Young Woo wouldn't have been a great lawyer if she didn't do that or used available evidence voluntarily provided by the opponent for her client. She is still a lawyer doing everything by the book.

GoWonderful

What I like about the writing is that they won't avoid issues with autistic individuals like the love interest. They instead strive to tackle these issues with Woo Young Woo's autism in the story. This is why this drama is so respected.

Kaley

I was about to suggest neurotypical as well!

Kaley

I do have to say that our society infantilizes people on the spectrum/disabled people often, and assume they can’t have successful partnerships. TV like The Good Doctor and The Pitt are changing that though.

Ryan Towell

2 billion won is approx. 1.3 million in USD. Not to bad considering thats after taxes etc.

Midnight Lion

Some context for the names Dong-Il, Dong-i, and Dong-sam so you guys understand the joke! Dong is their surname/family name but also the first syllable of their given names. Dong Dong-Il, Dong Dong-I, Dong Dong-sam. Here’s the thing. Il, I, and Sam are “1, 2, 3” in the Sino-Korean numeric system (usually used when talking about dates, money, phone numbers). They’re literally named “Dong-One, Dong-Two, Dong-Three”! And their father’s given name is incredibly normal and common by comparison: Won-bin. So Young-woo’s friend Geu-rami is clowning on her granddad for literally naming his son’s “Surname-1, Surname-2, Surname-3” like he’s Dr. Seuss with Thing 1 and Thing 2🤣

LavendersBlues

This is really silly but I just want to say that the brothers names are literally One, Two, and Three. il = one i (ee) = two sam = three. And so saying the dad was uncreative because their last name is Dong so he named them Dong One, Dong Two, and Dong Three 😂 Sorry I just had to share that......

LavendersBlues

....I didn't refresh my page so I didn't see you literally commented this about 20 minutes before I went to write mine! 😂 Sorry, your explanation is way better

LavendersBlues

I want to listen to the commentary at the end of the episode but this one was a little hard for me as an autistic adult. I really appreciate the open mindedness you guys come at this with, and I think the show will address some of what you discussed in this episode, but it's truly so hard when Oak is right -- a spectrum really means a spectrum. And for a while (like Yong Woo pointed out in the last episode) they used to be separate disorders in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) until 2013 -- when the DSM reclassified Asperger's Syndrome as part of the umbrella of disorders known as Autism Spectrum Disorders. A few others got shoehorned in there as well and there's a lot of controversy in how care and studies are taken for Autistic kids and adults because of the fact that the symptoms and care needs vary wildly from individual to individual. I have a hard time watching shows about Autistic Adults because I was undiagnosed for so long that I just grew up thinking I was broken. And I see the traits I worked so hard to hide to appease classmates and bullies and teachers being shown openly -- when I did nothing but work incredibly hard to mask those same tics. It's almost like second-hand embarrassment, I see so much of myself in how Yong Woo interacts with her coworkers and her world that it's like a funhouse mirror. So listening to discussion about her life is a little hard. But you guys are doing great. I'm glad you're watching a happy lighthearted K-Drama finally!!! Keep it up! I think you'll enjoy this genre if you move forward with it.

~FallenStar~

To Mason Quinn's perspective- as someone with autism, things like deceit, lies, and sarcasm aren't an obvious thing to us. In our minds it's inconceivable that someone would just blatantly lie like the two brothers and witness did. That realization was an important moment for Young-Woo because it caused her to shift her viewpoint of the world to a (sadly) more realistic version. This ultimately was a significant moment in her development, which a lot of us on the spectrum go through at some point in our lives. I personally didn't think she condoned something "illegal", she just learned to fight for herself and her clients better. Her comeback to the attorney saying "do you have any evidence to support your claim?" was a moment of growth we see from her where she doesn't just let people bulldoze her. To Oak's concern- there's a popular saying in the neurodivergent community: "if you've met one person with autism, then you've met one person with autism". As you've said, it's such a broad spectrum that it's difficult to say what certain situations are like for each individual. While it's true that social cues are a struggle for a lot of us with autism, it's not something that stays a struggle. Just like everyone else grows up learning these things, so do many people on the spectrum- it just might take a little longer than some others! A great example of this in Young-Woo's case specifically is when she became friend's with Ra-Mi in high school. If you'll recall, Young-Woo's the one that approached Ra-Mi and asked to be friends. She picked up that not only did she stand up for her previously, but also that people seem to steer clear of her because they deem her a "psycho". Putting those factors together, she was able to discern that they could be good friends together- and she was right! I definitely see where you're coming from, especially with your personal experiences, but it's important for all of us to remember not to put all autistic people under an umbrella and project past experiences onto others! I had my concerns at first as well, but as a lot of these other comments have mentioned, the show does go on to address this and her development as a person!

AYEEEEEE *spiderman point meme*

Midnight Lion

I will say, as someone who is also autistic, I disagree with your opening paragraph about these types of lies and deception being inconceivable. Sarcasm I will concede to an extent because for me personally it’s all about the delivery of the sarcasm—a lot of sarcasm I understand and a lot goes completely over my head. And I am also a very sarcastic person. But I was a child who learned quite quickly that if I lied, I could get out of punishments. My sister and I were spanked as kids, and also forced to eat hot sauce if we said something bad, so I learned to associate lying with escaping pain. For example, I started hiding everything my mom would use to spank us (wooden spoons, hair brushes) and lied about not knowing where they were because my autistic child brain went, “If she doesn’t have anything to spank us with, we won’t get spanked.” So I think this is another case of if you’ve met one autistic person, you’ve met one autistic person. I understand completely why people lie and deceive. I understand that my example is an example of a child who was wishing to escape pain and punishment, but I also understand that people are greedy and selfish and while most of the time, I can’t put myself in their shoes and would never do something like they did, I understand and frankly expect people to lie and deceive for personal gain. As a kid, my experience at home, molded me into a very good liar who would also lie to get out of punishments at school. It’s shameful to look back on but I recognize that I did it to avoid punishment because I associated punishment with pain and “getting in trouble” gave me a great deal of anxiety. And a lot of people go through life with that same fear and it prompts them to lie and deceive in ways that harm others, because their self-preservation or selfishness overwhelms their sense of morality. Again, it’s just another case of, “if you’ve met one of us, you’ve met one of us.” I’m like Youngwoo in many many ways but this is one way I very distinctly diverge from her

hex1c

I hope you guys didn't end up being annoyed at each other IRL. Never let a show come between your awesome friendship <3

Childless Bambino

they obviously have upmost respect for each other. It it just them expressing their own personal viewpoints. No harm

❣️ Vladlena ❣️

Oak’s opinion in the post-discussion about romance is definitely unpopular, and I don’t agree that disabled or autistic people should only date other disabled/autistic people, but I see your point! I don’t get why it’s “hard to watch,” though, because what we’ve seen so far with the main character’s potential love interest isn’t concerning at all.

Aria Isara

The last 2 ep of BTIMFL were shite though.

Aria Isara

When MQ said "wouldn't it be more satisfying if..." and Answer immediately replied "no 😑" lol 😂😂 As far as I'm concerned the fight wasn't even staged, just because she talked some sh!t doesn't mean you can start slapping and punching, they could have simply thrown them out. The brothers weren't tricked into the fight, they quickly chose to become violent over some words 🤷‍♀️ I think MQ is expecting some unrealistic purity from our main girl. As to what Oak said about the romance, OMG I feel the same way but I wouldn't have dared saying it, I thought it was just me. I'm open minded about it, and from what others are saying the show will handle that part well, but at this point I'm still on the fence.

Rawaby 1204

Also that their father’s name is literally a combination of two top handsome korean actors 😂 Dongwon/Wonbin

Aria Isara

@Midnight Lion: sorry to hear you grew up with a sh!tty mother 😩

Wintana

I do understand where Mason Quinn is coming from, but even someone as by-the-book as Woo Young-woo has to face the reality that witnesses can and sometimes do lie in court, which i think was what this ep wanted to show. When that happens and no other evidence is available she had to find another way because at the end of the day, an attorney's main goal is to win the case for their client. I personally didn't see the fight as staged. One of the older brothers threw the first punch, and things escalated from there. They didn't have to do that, but they did and in doing so, they gave Woo Young-woo a new legal way to win using nothing but the law itself

LavendersBlues

OMG I thought that was the reference but I wasn't sure! That's hilarious 😂

wes

Ooh, why? Have you seen Reply 1988, how do you feel about that one

lila

"Wind in the hair moment" is so nice haha! I always called them "Whale-izations" cause it always happens when she's hit with a "realization" and it sounds like that 😂😂😂

MJ

RE: MQ's point: it wouldn't have necessarily been more satisfying to me if they'd handled this case differently in the writing room. This was honestly probably a pretty realistic lesson Young-Woo would have to learn as an attorney: the truth doesn't always prevail. Sometimes there isn't a way for a case to be won on a moral high ground and from my limited experiences with law, it seems like a not insignificant amount of it is technicalities and loopholes. The only sucker at a rigged table is the one playing fair. Plus, I love to see bullies getting beat at their own game.

Tania R

I get where Oak’s coming from - I do appreciate the protective instinct ❤️. I just think it’s important not to box her in. Woo’s whole journey is about being seen as more than her diagnosis, and that includes trusting her ability to choose and navigate relationships like anyone else - even if it comes with its own challenges.

Chuck Bartowski

Oak's issue with dating is a real concern. I'm very happy with how this show handles this aspect. I hope by the end he changes his mind.

Aria Isara

That's such a great name!! 😄

Jedi MooLou

Here's my take on the situation with playing 'dirty'. I get MQ's point. I do. And there is a part of me that also would have liked seeing a totally 'above the board' win. But here's my make or break it thing: they didn't frame them. They simply presented them an opportunity to show their true colors. They played everything by the book - got an additional witness, did what they needed, etc. And the brothers kept screwing that up. They didn't frame something untrue, they merely set up a potential out. If the brothers weren't scumbags...well then they wouldn't have had a case. So really, I don't see it as playing 'dirty', though I will admit it is setting them up. But if they weren't the type of people to assault her, they wouldn't have lost their case.

Megan

So for the "Won Bin, handsome in name only" bit, there is a huge Korean Actor named Won Bin that "all the women love." Great actor and of course very handsome. Internationally, he'd be known for "The Man From Nowhere" (great action movie hopefully on your list) and "Mother." Put it this way, 2010 was the last time he acted but he's still getting a ton of brand ambassador offers...15 years later. As for the case, bff's dad shouldn't have split it. Their dad left it solely to him for a reason and if he wanted it split, he would've done so or directed him to do so. Maybe because dad was the only one who stayed to care for the farm and/or their dad figured the "educated" brothers were better off and had no need. Either way, he shouldn't have given them anything after they almost got away with both stealing from him and putting them into MAJOR debt. They had zero qualms about it and their "apology" is just to get some money and their sadness for getting caught/losing. I get the family dynamic by Korean standards, but bff's dad really needed a good chastising by his wife, daughter, and Woo's own dad.

Zoe S

Hi, don’t worry it’s all just banter between them😊 they’ve said in the past that they love to rile each other up and find it fun but they’ve been friends for years so know where the line is of being too much and never cross it as they would never want to actually upset each other😊

LavendersBlues

In contrast to Midnight Lion, I was the autistic kid who just could not fathom lying. It took until I was in High School to really "get it". And even then I couldn't always tell when someone else was lying to me! I got lied to and duped and was called gullible for most of my life because of that (and I was undiagnosed!!!!!! but everyone knew I was 'just stupid' and 'just gullible' because of my extremely black and white justice view of the world MANY autistic people have. BUT AGAIN -- it's a spectrum, so not everyone will have that experience). So I got Woo Yongwoo in this episode which is why my longer comment stands. It was hard to listen to their commentary so I had to nope out of it. This one hit a little hard. Especially with the dad who has the worst siblings ever. That was my dad, and it broke my heart growing up, so I also related to Geu Rami.

Megan D

I understand your hesitances but the writers do very well addressing these questions. I would recommend you give the rest of the show a watch.

Nana

what they did was valid cause the other side just kept on lying and bribing a witness so they had to "play" dirty as well to achieve the right outcome.

mase

using neurodivergent & neurotypical is fine of course, but as you said it is a broad term that includes other disorders/conditions. if anyone wants to be autism-specific, they can just use autistic & allistic (allistic means non-autistic people, which includes both neurodivergent and neurotypical people). :)
