Childless Bambino

Such an awesome show, along with Bloodhounds and My Name; Kdramas have been killing it on your channel this year! (The Glory last year too!)

I don't think the show wanted you to think that Tae Su Mi knew about Woo Young Woo being her daughter. They implied that she recognized Young Woo's name from the case in episode 2, which she was impressed by and took note of at that time.

Love this episode of the series! It deliberately complicates the audience’s instinct to pick a side. The father’s desperation in begging the mother not to abort is framed as emotional and selfless, which is why a lot of people sympathise with him—especially given that he ultimately raises woo alone after she gave the baby. But if you rewind that moment, the power dynamic shifts: the mother had already expressed that she did not want the pregnancy, and her eventual decision to carry the baby seems only driven by the father’s insistence. When you think about it, she had the baby because she still had feelings for the father and that's why she broke down at that moment. I don't want to say it's outright emotional manipulation but we can't fault her for an abandonment which wasn't even her idea in the first place. Even in a relatively affluent context like hers, patriarchal societal expectations in South Korea still lean heavily toward traditional roles around motherhood, which complicates the idea of “choice.” They weren't married, they just started attending law school and they were super young. So while her later absence is painful and ethically fraught, reducing her to a villain ignores the possibility that her autonomy was compromised from the start.

This was so emotional ! Love it & great reaction

Give me a break…the dad just wanted to save his daughter. And all my sympathy goes to Young Woo, not the mom. Do you honestly think her mother saw her adult daughter and felt anything but regret for abandoning her?

Unholy Tater

Really heavy episode. Fantastic acting all round.

I could never blame or hate the mother for that. He was the one who insisted on having Woo, pressuring her with an irreversible decision. He certainly didn't consider at the time the emotional impact it would have on her growing up without a mother; he made a decision for all three of them basically. And how she behaves throughout the drama is another matter. From Woo Young's perspective, she has every right to feel abandoned, she's the one who bears the consequences of their actions. They both had ambitions, but he was willing to put them aside to raise his daughter, while she didn't want to be a mother and wanted to pursue her dreams—both valid.

I loved your guys reaction to this episode, definitely a roller-coaster of emotions. Can't wait for you guys to get into more of these episodes. ❤️

@Imshortitsok06 im not sure if you're agreeing with me or disagreeing lmao? the tone implies you're not agreeing but I never said that the father didn't want save his daughter, that's evident bc that's why he wanted the baby. im just saying he's the one who proposed the arrangement because he knew tae sumi didn't want to be a mother at that time due to the circumstances I mentioned earlier. she obviously regrets it bc she asked woo if she resented her. woo is a innocent victim in this situation. I am just referring to abandonment issue bc obviously there's blame to be assigned. In this situation, I don't blame either party. the dad proposed a solution bc he wanted the baby. tae sumi could've refused and went ahead with the abortion. she respected his decision and the terms they both agreed to. Now her regret is solely on her because she could've gotten in contact with woo way earlier to make amends and that's just an irreversible mistake. but... At the end of the day, tae sumi didn't want to abandon anyone at first bc she didn't want a baby period and that's just a fact. we can feel bad for woo and understand the impossible situation they were in: there's no real villain because its a very grey all around

The end was a tough watch ngl

Liked Answer's 'Massaging' Quinn during convincing the Residents scene hehe, glad they called out Attorney Kwon straight away on his betrayal & was sweet of Su-Yeon standing up for Woo speaking some loud truths everyone could hear especially that sneaky snake Kwon! & I like how observant Woo is about every little detail on cases as was a nice touch there with umbrella & holy moly! didn't think we'd get the Mother news reveal to Woo this soon! but very emotionally charged scene, both actresses perfectly nailed conveying emotion purely through their eyes alone. I know may sound strange but was somehow nice on ears/eyes seeing so much rain in this episode. Also liked Quinn's 'heartbeat/revolving doors' impressions too hehe.

I love how big your reaction was at 36:03 when the dad told Young-woo about her mother! And then, by the end of the episode, during Young-woo’s conversation with her biological mother, you were really captivated and affected by those dramatic moments. K-dramas are known for their top-tier acting, and this scene is just one of many examples!

♥ Su-yeon defending Woo. Spring Sunshine indeed. Such an amazing episode! That final scene! The way they tilted the camera & Tae's facial expressions said everything. Great acting!

cait

wild episode. such a rollercoaster of emotions 😢

"We're back in our happy place." Welp, they spoke too soon for this episode

Tae Su-mi can do no wrong in my books. It was against her best interests and she took immense risks to carry and give birth to Woo.

As for the court case in this episode — it was definitely morally complicated and controversial. Even though the guy did something very questionable, his intentions were benevolent and genuinely well-meaning. I liked the message behind it, but of course taking children somewhere without their parents’ knowledge is extremely inappropriate. But honestly, I think even Oak’s words: “I’m gonna take you into the middle of the woods and play — that’s highly problematic and creepy” — are another strong reminder that, unfortunately, we live in a dangerous reality (largely because of men), where situations like this immediately trigger certain thoughts, because we constantly see terrible stories like that in the news. I wish we lived in a world where none of us would instantly assume that a man taking children somewhere is a pedophile or an actual danger. But sadly, reality is what it is…

I don’t want to be one of those people but wanted to point out that gimbap is not sushi. I know it looks similar but to say it is sushi can be a little insensitive to Koreans as they were occupied by Japan. Korea and Japan still have political tension and not the best relationship. Japan actually has political tension with many Asian countries bc of their war crimes during WWII and before then. Also I did make this version of gimbap for fun when the show was first airing and it’s good but really messy😄

Great reaction! This show handles many gray areas and humanly confusing topics splendidly. It's a delight, really. I just read this interesting book called The Abandoners: On Mothers & Monsters, which is about women who abandoned their kids for one reason or another—including for the unpopular career/lifestyle reasons. Many of these women include famous writers, actors, painters, and scientists. It brings up many interesting questions about the perception of birthing mothers and what they should feel and do, and how society can paint what would be pretty understandable or at least expected/normal behavior if the dad were to do it as an unnatural, monstrous, and unusually cruel thing to do when a mother does it. It also goes into how the children were affected. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the subject. It has many sources in the back to back up the history, and it's a pretty approachable book. Its goal is to help readers question their biases as the author questions her own biases about the obligation of motherhood and the price women pay to fulfill their role so they aren't despised by society, often at the cost of their creativity, health, and sanity, especially back before working in public spheres as more than domestic servants or typists was something most women did.

We also have to take into account that she comes from a very powerful family, she most likely wouldn't have had much of a choice but to give her up.
