As someone who read the book and loves the story, this is my insight (if it helps put things in perspective)...In 2020 i was hospitalized and woke up with a physical disability that just drastically altered my life. I had to learn to dress, shower, get ready, walk and function basically from scratch. I am much better now but I'd be lying if I said there is not a single day that goes by where i do not think about my old life or what my life could be. There were and still are days where I feel like it's just not worth it. BUT I try to remind myself to be thankful for my accommodations, my growth and the love I have from family and friends. And yet, sometimes it's not enough when hard days come around and the sense of helplessness, pain and frustration can be overwhelming. Thank you guys for reacting and your honest review❤️ Really is a hard conversation but you all handled it with grace!

I remember being in the theater when this came out and absolutely sobbing saying, “No no no no no no!” I did and still wanted him to choose to stay alive. It was so sad.. like we all love you and is that not enough?? I could never do that to my parents.. it’s selfish tbh. I feel like it also sends off a message of it’s okay to give up if life is hard.. you shouldn’t give up on life especially when you have a group of people who love and care about you

I'm sorry but telling someone to live solely for your sake and to disregard their own daily pain that you couldn't understand unless you were actually in their mind is selfish.

I just discovered your channel about a month ago and you guys are so warm and funny and intuitive! Lovely film & reactions. All I will say is that Will's character seemed trapped in a steel cage in near-constant physical pain. He had every right to want to be free of that pain.

No, what's selfish, Lindsey, is guilting/forcing someone to stay alive and keep living through unimaginable amounts of pain.

i wanna leave my perspective here in the comments. this movie/book has gotten a lot of flack because people argue that it depicts disability as an outright miserable experience all round. i absolutely understand that perspective, however this movie resonates with me in a personal way. i’m not a quadriplegic by any means, but i have unidentified chronic illnesses that are getting worse. everyday i wake up in pain and go to bed in pain, i wake up just as exhausted as when i went to bed, and when you’re in a position like this where you have no diagnosis there’s no help. everybody expects you to get up everyday and function like a normal person, i have to work to make rent like anyone else despite feeling ten times worse than an able bodied persons worst day, if i stay in bed i’m ‘lazy’ because on paper there’s no evidence of what i’m experiencing so i can’t prove to anybody that it’s real. that reality is beyond exhausting. i grew up being an extremely academic child, top of my class. now i can hardly attend a seminar. when something like this happens to you, wether it’s paralysis or otherwise, everything you love about your life and your entire identity is taken from you. you lose friends because you change entirely, but you also can’t go out and make more. it’s an incredibly isolating experience, and i’d be lying if i said i didn’t at times feel like will. it’s important that we have media that shows disabled people living their best lives, because people absolutely CAN live fulfilling lives and disabilities are not death sentences. but some of us also have to wrestle with the fact that everything that got you out of bed in the morning is suddenly stripped from you, and i think it’s important that we also see our experiences explored on screen, because i think a lot of able bodied people just don’t realise how hard it can be mentally. to anyone reading this who is struggling, i love you and i see you :)
