The writing for the sequence in the house was so good/emotional. We see the dart board (“Every Sunday at a sports bar with my father from age 10-16 when he passed away”), to the “Johnny Tremaine” book (“And on the way to school, he talks me through the entire book, because he stayed up the whole night so his little boy wouldn’t be anxious about a silly little test”), to seeing his dad’s plaque (this is the first time we learn his name was Jim), the last date being 1990 (we know he passed in 1991), to the high-pitched ringing sound in Ted’s ears (signalling a panic attack), which crescendoes into a loud bang as he drops the box down for his mom (evocative of the sound of a gunshot), and we’re reminded that THIS is the same house where it all happened, to Ted recalling a happy memory about his dad, which leads him to make the connection to Henry and his role as a dad, which finally leads him to deciding to take the family back HOME to Richmond. 🥹🫶🏻😢❤️‍🩹

I was super excited to see them feature the American Jazz Museum and NLBM. We went to KCMO a few years ago to see a traveling exhibition about Auschwitz and visited both of those and the National WWI Museum and Memorial, which you see a glimpse of when Ted's driving home. Totally worth it. As for the Ted and Michelle thing, I'm not sure that much has really changed. I think it would be really difficult for them to "fix" their relationship in any kind of meaningful way when Ted is clearly so lost. I see two really great friends committed to co-parenting in an authentic way that allows their pre-teen son access to both parents. I also see two parents on the precipice of being empty nesters, even if it's a few years away (middle school and high school fly by, y'all). Ted got to make a radical life decision and find his passion, but Michelle hasn't. Perhaps going with Ted will afford her that opportunity now that Henry is older and Ted will be close. I would be perfectly happy if they explore all of that without getting them back together, but if they decide to do it, I hope they show them dating each other and getting to know the people they are now, not trying to build a relationship in the ashes of the one they already burned down.

This is an outstanding analysis!
