Since you’re probably gonna react to the Odyssey (once it’s available on platforms) I wanted to petition for you guys to react to Troy (2004) first, personally I like it more than the Odyssey, but I’m saying it because they are technically connected (one is a continuation of the other) so I think it’s a good idea so that you can have the story clear and in chronological in your heads. Troy is not super canonical with the original story but I really want to see your reaction to it.

The Little Mermaid signaled Disney's return to the animated films they had been known for for so long, and is an absolute masterpiece with no stunt casting of famous actors, just the best voice actors for the roles! All of these movies are wonderful, but please start with the one that brought us a new golden age of animated features!

Here to wholeheartedly second this recommendation! Troy is not as accurate to the source material but it is exceptionally well written, well shot, well directed, and well acted and will set the stage for the more complete epic that The Odyssey is.

What is this Troy revisionism I have been seeing so much lately? It had some good performances, but a lot of the movie is just bad, which is reflected by viewers and critic reviews. It feels like people are suddenly praising Troy after all the Odyssey culture war BS, despite it being mostly ignored/laughed at for the past 2 decades

It’s a genuinely entertaining epic movie with great performances, memorable action, gorgeous production design and costume design, great dialogue and a surprisingly compelling take on these characters. It isn’t a perfect adaptation of Homer, but “not perfectly canonical” doesn't equal “bad movie.” You can criticize its changes while still appreciating what it accomplishes as a big, dramatic war film. Its reputation being mixed doesn’t erase what works about it, and people enjoying it now isn’t some culture-war conspiracy.

I really want them to react to Troy, so regardless if they react to it as a "prequel" to the Odyssey or as a film on it's own I don't care. I just thought since the stories are related and since I'm pretty sure they are gonna react to the Odyssey I thought that maybe they could give Troy a chance.

i agree. It’s not a bad thing to enjoy Troy but it is rewriting history as if the movie wasn’t universally disliked except for one or two scenes that are the only parts people will only ever bring up😭 i def feel like the release of the odyssey is the only reason this revision started cuz it’s not necessary for the movie at all.

I absolutely LOVE the lion king 2. And the song Disgrace is such a banger. Everytime I hear it it just hits me in the gut. A lot of banger songs on there.

@Laurica 100%. It was panned by audiences and critics. Funny thing is, I actually really enjoy Troy. Mostly because it does have some cool stuff, but also because the bad stuff makes it very goofy, which can be fun. That doesn't mean the movie is actually good though lol. I like plenty of bad movies

Personally and this is my opinion the 2nd lion king is worth the watch solid sequel you could probably miss the 3rd one which is pretty much a timon pumbaa focuesd movie wont miss much but if you want to watch the whole animated trilogy its a ok movie

Definitely not! I think most people consider it the best simply bcause its one of the first movies we all grew up with, but thankfully its now kind of recognized as overrated at this point. I still think it's inportant to see it but if we're talking about the BEST of this poll, its definitely last

Many reactors skip it because it is a lightning rod for controversy. It's literally about colonizing, exploitation and racism. The story itself is amazing, and also takes the events of real historic people and their culture, changes them, whitewashes them, and makes it Disney. (A lot like Dreamworks did with Anastasia, but with more colonization ). It's incredibly difficult for reactors to react to appropriately. Opinion is split on it even within the Native community. The animators met with some of the descendants of Pocahontas, and specifically cast Native American actors for the voice roles, but also ignored and changed the history of the Algonquin people.

I’m very aware of all the history and Disney lore around it. I also know the native community is split on it. But there are a lot of films like that, coming from the black community we see it all the time. You can watch the film for what it is, while acknowledging all that at the same time. It arguably has one of Alan Menkin’s best scores and it’s a real departure from the typical Disney princess model. I definitely don’t think they should score it, out of respect, but they can definitely still react. If anything, it deserves a reaction to bring up the real story of princess Matoaka and the real history of what happened. Many natives appreciate the representation of Natives and use of native actors, while still being very vocal on the criticism of colonialization, misrepresentation of true story, the Powhatan people ect. I know that the channel sometimes gets heat, but these are discussions that while controversial are so important. As an African-American, I’ve always felt we do not highlight Native and Indigenous injustice/media nearly enough. Partly because colonization has really decimated the native population. But they are still here, their culture is really etched into society. And even tho Pocahontas is not accurate, it can bring up valuable awareness/discussion. Like, this was the first brown skin representation in Disney before Princess Tiana and that really means something to a lot of us and many in the Native community. Idk I just don’t want it to be shelved. When you take it for what it is, it’s really one of the best visually, score wise and interesting twist storywise for a classic Disney movie. An it’s a real opportunity for important dialogue on topics that currently in our political climate feel like they are trying to be bury.

All very fair points that I happen to agree with, but it really depends on the reactors if they want to take that risk, which is why few of them do. Ppl get demonetized, flagged for hate speech, and become the target of smear campeigns for much less. Have you seen any reactors that have watched it and did an interesting and nuanced reaction that you particularly like? It has been one of my favourite Disney films since I was a child (along with Hunchback of Notre Dame).

So like, Lion King (has two sequels, so those as well), then the Little Mermaid (it has one sequel, so that too), then Land Before Time (this one has 13 sequels, but really the first is the best and the only one with Judith Barsi who voices Ducky), then the Aristcats!
