The Old Astronomer to His Pupil Reach me down my Tycho Brahe, I would know him when we meet, When I share my later science, sitting humbly at his feet; He may know the law of all things, yet be ignorant of how We are working to completion, working on from then to now. Pray remember that I leave you all my theory complete, Lacking only certain data for your adding, as is meet, And remember men will scorn it, 'tis original and true, And the obloquy of newness may fall bitterly on you. But, my pupil, as my pupil you have learned the worth of scorn, You have laughed with me at pity, we have joyed to be forlorn, What for us are all distractions of men's fellowship and smiles; What for us the Goddess Pleasure with her meretricious smiles! You may tell that German College that their honor comes too late, But they must not waste repentance on the grizzly savant's fate. Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night. Sarah Williams

You guys spelled Jonbenet Ramsey wrong

Colette

Writing this before I've listened. Prediction - Eli chops someone's nose off in the sketch.

Aya Sakurai

I was shocked when Heath said omorashi. I knew some kinky Japanese words like bukkake and lolicon made it to English lexicon but... Omorashi?! Seriously?! (Well, your current president is allegedly into it, so...)

Cherrbear

How much booze does a moose have to drink to get that fuckin' drunk???

Tyler

"Unless you can't-elope" just about broke me.

Noah's pedantry hasn't reached critical mass. If he insisted on the Danish pronunciation of Tycho Brahe, which is a fucking feat of uvular gymnastics that ultimately sounds like a sneeze, that would be concerning. -- [ˈtyːə ˈbʁɑː] - danish sneeze

Simon Garnero

As a Dane and someone who helped my father with writing his book on Urania Castle (Tycho's domicile on Hven), it was a blast. :)

Was lucky to have actually held letters written by TB.

The best buffets are in Vegas! Great place to visit after spending some time in a state legal marijuana lounge. When are you guys coming?!

PineBoxChicken

This was a very educational episode, I am now going to start carrying a piss bottle with me.

The Gray Hunter

I've never heard it pronounced [tee - ko]. Since I know him from the very obvious crater on the moon where they find the monolith in "2001"... yes since I was like 11... it's been pronounced [tai - ko]

Captain Dave

Bad News: I thought Tycho Brahe was an obscure Spaghetti Western film. Good News: Now, I can reference Tycho Brahe whenever someone at work criticizes me for frequent bathroom breaks. Thanks, guys!

Paul Barton

Can we get Eli to do an episode on the Amazing Randy? I want to hear about the hot tub.

Tyler

The way Noah did it is closer than the long Ī one you usually hear. That 'Tych' syllable is very close to the sound 'tüch' in the German word 'Tücher' -- plural of 'Tuch' = rag or cloth. Y is somewhere between the I in 'bit' and the U in "duke", but a bit closer to the former. Then that CH is a voiceless palatal fricative. Like the H in 'hue' (Eng.) or the CH in 'ich / dich / sich...' (Ger.) All this, and I haven't even brought up the rhotic in his surname yet...

I don't know if you this has already been pointed out but one of my favorite YouTubers, Tom Scott, has a game show called Citation Needed. It has some vaguely similar themes. Have you asked Andrew if this is OK? :D

Sarah Fullerton

They talked about this on a Cog Dis episode. these like half a dozen shows called Citation Needed and none are trademarked.

Caribou is also a heavily alcoholic drink.
