Oh thank you....this is exactly what I need after forcing myself through Sarah Huckabee Sanders' SOTU response.

I love when these episodes are long. Thanks for being the bestest podcasteratizersarators on earth!

Pterrorsaurus hex

My earbuds died as I was listening and, despite my knowledge of the battery being low, given the timing-- I can only assume my listening device was so angry with Tom's assistant they refused to play more.

B. King

We were supposed to read this in high school, but my instructor hated it. So she assigned Johnny Got His Gun. I've never read Catcher and this episode will likely cement how lucky I was to dodge that bullet. Unlike Johnny. That was a rough read.

Fel Martins

Why do I feel a sudden angry urge to see John Lennon?

Mark Smith

Just the absolute disdain for this book in Heaths voice is great, loving it.

Kelly Slate

I was at a party once where the house invited a handful of us to a back room to enjoy a sip of Macallan 35. One of our friends was so drunk that he took the tumbler and threw it back like a shot as we all looked on in horror. I felt Tom’s pain on this one.

I’m just saying that I would sign up for the “Heath Hates a Book” podcast Patreon.

TenaciousB

I haven't listened yet, but I saw the title and went HEATH HATES A BOOK!!!

I found The Great Gatsby to be nightmare fuel, as a teenager. The main character starts with the resources sufficient to survive, and by folly and being deceived goes through the process of burning through that pile of resources. I've not read it since then, and hope my reading was in error.

Julie Wine&Reason

Largely because of the cover art, I thought Catcher in the Rye was referencing The Fisher King Arthurian legend and that was the best thing I could pull for my high school paper. I wasn't ready to examine why every scene w/the protagonist & any woman made me deeply uncomfortable. Term paper would be different now...

Tanya Bernard

I’m a bibliophile, I’m always reading, but when I was assigned books, it was too much like homework. Plus, it seems like you’re not allowed to say you thought it was a bad book. I guess because since it was picked by the teacher, they must think it’s good. But, yeah, Catcher in the Rye was one of the books I didn’t like. I thought the main character was boring.

Danna Wheeldon

Thank you so much for this great episode. It brought back memories of being in high school and being young. all I can clearly remember, is waiting for something in the book to actually happen and truthfully, I don’t believe anything ever did.

Leslie Kavara Customs

The one benefit to having gone to a lutheran high school I have never had to read this book, but did write a 10 paper in collage about the Great Gatspy and Babbit without reading either.

Lime Green Morpheus

I really hope he rips apart A Separate Peace one day. The movie adaptation is worth a GAM episode.

Lime Green Morpheus

I once had a bottle of authentic Russian vodka given to me as a Christmas present by a friend from Russia and my mother in law mixed it with lemonade.

Spacesuit Spiff

It'll never happen but a Higurashi/Umineko essay would be hilarious. "But obviously there's no such thing as witches so this is stupid".

Vega T Zapper

This was very much what I needed this week. Y'all are a balm to at least one sore mind.

Crimson Ghost

Damn I love Heath's literature essays.
