Anyone else watching the HBO miniseries on Chernobyl and decide to listen to this episode again?

Sarah Fullerton

How do you tell the difference between a Polack and a Ukrainian? .... Turn off the lights. Ba-dum-chi (I can tell the joke; my grandmother is Ukrainian.)

Joseph Kubal

I always find it strange that everyone knows this, but fewer people are aware of the Bhopal disaster from like two years before this.... I believe that this had a larger death toll.

Sarah Fullerton

This is a true story, somewhat rambling story that took place in a small town northern Manitoba. I assure you it's funnier than glow-in-the-Ukrainians. My chemistry teacher in high school was so proud of this prank he and the geology teacher played on the biology teacher, who was kinda an idiot who nobody liked. For the record, I was born in '89 and all of these teachers were also my father's teacher. My chemistry teacher knew it was time to retire when he started teacher the 3rd generation. In the 80's, the school had a weather station to teach meteorology. So after the news from Chernobyl came out, Mr. Chemisty and Mr. Geology tweaked some piece of the equipment that measured radiation (by the time I got to the school, it no longer had the meteorology station, so I have no idea was this dingy-ma-bob was). The then waited for Mr. Biology to walk by and started hemming and hawing really loud. When Mr. Biology came into the room to see what was going on, they pointed to the dingy-ma-bob and said that it wasn't working; it was measuring abnormally high. Mr. Biology poked at it a bit. Then Mr. Geology said, "Hey, wasn't there some sort of explosion in the Ukraine ?" (Like half of my hometown is Ukrainian. The other half is Polish. We do not acknowledge USSR boundaries. As my great-grandparents would say: "Iz no goot place.") Mr. Chemistry said, "Oh yaaa, maybe that's it." Mr. Biology freaked the shit out. He started calling news channels in Winnipeg and the Manitoban government. Mr. Geology and Mr. Chemistry snickered and fixed the dingy-ma-bob and pretended one of the kids messed with it. Mr. Biology tried seeking revenge for this humiliation by buying Mr. Chemistry ugly ties and convincing him that where nice looking. Mr. Chemistry was colour blind. The tie that prompted this recollection of the story was one with clouds formed of naked women that only the class clown had the heart to point out to him. "Mr. Chemistry? It might just be me, but I think those are naked women on your tie."

- GAM Bonus 009: Noah offhandedly mentions having to play E.T. The Game for reasons he wouldn't go into. - SA 218: The unmistakable sound of Tom laughing can be heard in the outtakes. Thank fuck there's finally some sense to these data points, because I was one bad day away from breaking out the yarn and pushpins.

For the last 3 weeks after the Skeptics Creed we played outtakes from our test records.

I am doing electrical work (240v) and unplugged an unrelated electrical cord that was "in the way" just as the alarm (klaxon) went off. The show was playing via Bluetooth through my hearing aids. Scared the shit out of me!

I'm here for the Knowledge Fight!

Having only listened to NDE episode fully I am excited and thrilled add this to my weekly podcast rotation. Keep up the great and hilarious work guys!

Aya Sakurai

Congrats for the launch of your new show!

Aya Sakurai

(premature posting...) I didn't hesitate for a moment to make a pledge because I love you guys' sense of humor so much. I just hope you'll tread carefully when you talk about a real tragedy like Chernobyl that claimed a lot of real lives. It's not a movie. I believe you are totally capable of mocking human stupidity uninhibitedly while retaining basic decency and respect toward humanity. Good luck!

As of 4:45a MDT, you have 549 patrons. Please, oh please, oh please, oh please thank each and every one of them (including the ones to follow after this posting) on the first episode that goes live! :D

Ryan Parker

Hey guys! Am I remembering incorrectly, or did Tom and Cecil say these would only be up for a few days? Did you guys plan on taking down the testisodes soon? (I'm aware a testisode isn't a thing.... Until just now. Now, it's a thing.) Really though, do I need to rush through these or am I good for at least a couple of weeks?

The test ones will be up until the day or so before launch. So at least a few weeks. The episodes will be here as long as the show exists.

Annique

I've been on the fence about patron-ing anything for a while, but this... with the chemistry you guys had together during VFC I knew I would love the fuck out of this. Wishing you all great times with this new podcast.

Candicepenelope

Love the new show already. Decided to be a patreon immediately. Do Jack Parsons at some point please? JPL, L. Ron Hubbard, Aleister Crowley and conspiracy theories about his death? What's not to love.

Ann Pollard

How much make pulchritude can one woman stand? Chop me off about $4 worth.

Kara Z

Best $ I have ever spent

Precious Cinnamon Bun

Loved this one. The new music is great. Is the show going to be 30 min? I prefer the 2 h 30 format... :P

Christopher Arguin

Lol, you hit your $1500 Patreon goal without an official release yet! Congrats!

Mark Siefert

I like the jazz theme better than the Renn & Stimpy 50s stock music.

Tom jackson

I noticed there's a podcast by the same name on iTunes. Will this show be on iTunes or Patreon only?

Danni McInnis

Like it. Hope it keeps going. :)

Quinton Fraser

G'day all, Eli's Boston accent during the piece at the end was inadvertently the best Aussie accent he's ever done.
