An unusual unit of measurement is a unit of measurement that does not form part of a coherent system of measurement, especially because its exact quantity may not be well known or because it may be an inconvenient multiple or fraction of a base unit.

Many of the unusual units of measurements listed here are colloquial measurements, units devised to compare a measurement to common and familiar objects.

Anything to avoid using metric.

You made an episode specifically for a Metrologist like me. :)

Thank you 4 posting b4 the button goes down on a situation it’s unwise to comment on in the UK right now..😘👍

By the way, if you want to see where Fahrenheit gets silly, talk about Rankine. Celsius 0-100 is based on water. Kelvin is the Celsius scale but 0 is Absolute Zero. Not to be outdone, we decided to do that too but with the Fahrenheit scale and called it Rankine. 491.67R = 32F and 671.67 = 212F

I was hoping there’d be Smoots! I’m a Smoot 🥰

I think "from butthole to tip" is the philosophy behind how Scoville units work

I’m disappointed in Noah for not including the “hogshead” or 63 gallons

I’ve long said the Imperial system is incredibly stupid EXCEPT for Fahrenheit, which is legitimately better for how it’s used. At best, Kelvin should be the Metric temperature. Thanks Noah, I will continue to die on this hill.

I understand the idea people express with the fahrenheit preference. But as an Aussie I don't see a scale that goes between 32 and 120 (F) being any more same than one that goes between 0 and 50 (C). It's simply that those temperature ranges are only sane in the north of Europe and Northern US, and nowhere south of them (some mountains notwithstanding)

Check out Brave Wilderness on YouTube, he gets stung by all those crazy painful critters. It's wild!

This is probably my favorite episode in a long time. It's definitely the one I'm going to share with my sciency friends

As a Swede I feel slightly insulted by the diss of Celsius. 😞

I’m disappointed there’s no “Rack o’ t’eye” or “Skew o’ t’Gob” mentions here..🤔

Noah, per Detritus, the counting system used by Trolls is one, two and many, but also includes many 1, many 2 and 'lots.' 👍

I feel like some of the episodes lately lose me. Sometimes with GAM and this show I don't think I know all the inside jokes or maybe I'm not smart enough for it. Anyway I miss Heath. I'm moving into my new place. And being under 5 feet tall all the upper cabinets make me think I need a Heath-like friend to explain what to do with all that space I can't reach.

I worked in carpentry for a while and SBPH was commonly amongst my work crew. Though it will be close to incomprehensible to the younger Patrons, it stands for “Strawberry Blonde Pubic Hair”, and it was used frequently in snapping a chalk line.

In “Watership Down”, it was established that rabbits can count to four, with any higher quantity being “hrair”. The rabbit subdeity was “El Ahrairah”, or “Prince with a Thousand Enemies”. The scary part is, I could actually go into more detail, purely from memory, about this measurement.

Did someone on the snl writing staff hear this and base a sketch off of it this week?

My oldest is taking a cooking course this semester, and the class has determined that 24 3/4 cups of pumpkin purée is the equivalent of 1 mental breakdown. So, a mental breakdown of purée was completed in class today.
