Severasl stories, including: In 1927, most of the industrial alcohol in the United States had been poisoned under the order of the government.[9] The government had created a blend that contended with the bootleggers’ chemists. This blend included a large amount of methyl (wood) alcohol or methanol.

Merry Christmas all! Thanks for the unexpected present.

Stella

What an awesome Christmas surprise! 🎄 🎁 I hope everyone's holiday is going well.

CarrieBoo

I will miss the pre-show shenanigans but many thanks for all your hard work and the belly laughs. Nothing but love ❤️ You are all wonderful

Karl Jones

I already miss the shenanigans.

Oke518

My heart is broken that the pre-shows shenanigans are gone truly the end of an era

Jasamnajbolja

WAIT THEYRE REALLY GONE?? NOOOOO

Tamylyn

Nooooo, the opening skit :( well the show is still funny.

outaspaceman

Sigh, I remember alcoholic poisoning.. 🥺👍

MouthStache

Okay, what is the patreon goal for getting the pre-show shenanigans back?

Brendan H.

Boxing day surprise. A day late for warning me about alcohol.

April Poff

Y'all know I very, very rarely offer critiques. So please understand that I offer this after much thought. I want the pre-show shenanigans back. Just my little vote, but there you have it.

CarrieBoo

I believe, someday, when we least expect it...Clip Clop Tom will come galloping back into our hearts.

Melanie Gordon

Guys…. Pre-show shenanigans…. PLEASE

Apostate Apotheosis

What is ibid, and am I even writing that correctly? Eli says it a bit past the 4 minute mark, right after a caliente joke. It seems to be one of those running gags that I have never understood what it meant.

Taru Tikkanen

Quote from the Oxford Languages site: adverb in the same source (used to save space in textual references to a quoted work which has been mentioned in a previous reference). "(ibid. p. 57)"

Denise Huston

Fuckin Air Bud rules for German wine. "Well there's no rules that say we CAN'T use antifreeze!"

Denise Huston

Also kinda shocked it didn't go into the ginger Jake from the prohibition era, but time constraints.

J. Vizzle

The cobra thing in Apropos of Nothing sent me into hysterics!

J. Vizzle

Zinconceivable wins

Cave_Dweller

Okay, so I thought the opening skit from last week was another layer of the opening skit, and now I'm legitimately grieving for Clip-clop Tom.

Vern Weisensel

Thought it was a joke about the shenanigans... still a great show, will still support.

Oxford Comma is Mandatory

When it comes to my poison I want to be sure it's the poison I know it should be and not anything else smuggled in.

Lime Green Morpheus

I miss the pre show shenanigans but this was very funny and those puns were terrible. Will always support CN

Stephen Adams

Barley being a grain, if the soil where you plant it is high in arsenic then the grain will also have some concentration of arsenic, hence barely malt containing arsenic. Sort of the same issue with heavy metals showing up in a ton of baby purées these days - farmers not testing their soil

Meadhands

I assume the pre-show shenanigans were either work intensive, becoming a problem to write, or alienating to new listeners. I assume the third.

William Evan Barnes

Heath, you can use Qat in Scrabble because it's one of several ways to spell the common name for Catha edulis, which is a stimulant plant that people chew! It's native to Eastern Africa I think. I'd love to try it, but it has to be fresh because the cathinone breaks down quickly after the plant is picked. And like damn near all drugs that are vastly safer than alcohol, it's also absurdly illegal in the US, so I doubt I'll ever get the chance.

Revive The Sketch Please. Putting the word shenanigans back into use is how I once discovered another CN fan. Maybe just a sprinkling of post-show shenanigans? So new people don't have to learn the hard way. Then, us older fans can get our fix of the concentrated nonsense-iverse we came for.

My grandad made his own bathtub gin during Prohibition, because he was incensed that a working man like himself (he was a house painter) couldn't have one damned drink after laboring on ladders all day. He was never an alcoholic, but he liked his one bottle of beer every night. He felt it was his right as a freeborn American.
