Hi! This is GOMI from NINE-H!

It’s with great pleasure and honor that I’m presenting our game’s First Developer Update!

Starting from now every month on the 14th, and 28th we will be releasing our developer updates. They will contain graphics, our plan for the future, and information about the game’s systems.

This is out first team project and as such, during the first month, we had a lot of trial-and-error learning and testing. What is our art direction going to be like? What about the reference materials? What will our source of inspiration be?

We muscled through the research and at the end we came up with a product that we like! The Witch of the Cloudy Night, Dyna! She is the main NPC characters in the game and the first character you will meet in game.

Overall, when we were making Daina, we artistically referenced Nendroid, coupled with games like “Maple Story 2” and “Summoners War”.

Among the assets available in the Unity Assets Store we found one which animates almost exactly as we want it to. This is of great help to us because it saved a lot of time and effort for our animator. Even so, we aren’t just going to use the animation as it is out of the box. We will tweak it and adjust it to our liking and until it looks exactly right.

This is Daina as she appears in game during a conversation. I quite like thighs, but the illustrator drew them too big, so we had to fix them up a little.

This is how they look after the correction. They are quite thick, aren’t they?

All in all, July has been a busy month of trial and errors. We are yet to finalize the game systems and as such we are still ironing out some kinks in our production process, but we will keep you regularly updated with the project’s progress.

The next developer update will be about the background design as well as some of the buildings, which we are working on. Thank you so much for reading our first developer update and for supporting our project!
