L: I’m working on dialogues with Lazy right now! To get back into the way she talks and remember some details about her, I replayed the first chapter of tcol.

I noticed something about her I hadn’t really seen before, even though it was always there. For example, why does she trust Roui so much? Why is she such a loyal friend? Lazy is definitely kind—that’s obvious—but there’s more to it. She feels like her life is dull and that she doesn’t deserve anything better, so she doesn’t see the point in complaining. But Roui? He’s always felt like he belongs to ‘another world.’ He’s a bringer of wonderful stories, almost like a character straight out of a fairy tale. She wants to hold onto him as a little piece of that magical world she knows she’ll never really be part of.

It’s funny, because those feelings are exactly the same as Roui’s when it comes to the Nourian singlits and the ‘tsourai’ constellations.

In this scene, Lazy is a bit younger than in the game (yeah, I love drawing this kind of stuff). Text on the sketch: “She’s into boho style: baggy cardigans, fringe, big accessories.”

Есть такое ощущение, что она использует Руи в своих целях)

Aw I got emotional reading this… And now I get why Lazy playfully teases Roui for his wacky stories and adventures. She knows that he has a deep and rich inner world which makes him a special person. It actually brings her joy and excitement that she wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere. Roui may think his own life is dull and seeks purpose in Nouri and constellations. But little does he know that he lights up lazy’s whole world. What a sweet thing to think about ; ; I hope they’re able to rekindle as friends after the misunderstanding over Rasko’s party. It would be sweet if Roui knew how important he is to her and vice versa. I’m very appreciative that you take the time to replay the game and think of your own characters in a new light. I hope to see more of these insights for us to read ourselves because I love knowing more about the characters from the creator’s perspective! I’m sure this will bring out the best in TCOL’s character writing, which I think is one of its greatest strengths.

I always enjoyed Lazy as a character, I could always feel she really cares about Roui as a friend. I’m sure she will be there to help him through all and all. It is great to hear that you went back to replay Chp. 1 and got to see your character in a deeper depth! Always cool to see more art work of younger Lazy.

You put so much thought into your world , I could listen to you talk about your characters non-stop all day! I had similar feelings of Lazy and Roui as well and you put it into words perfectly!

L: I like how you analyze bits of an info from the game and Patreon posts! It gives us a warm feeling that characters have been understood in a way we designed (deliberately or partially unconsciously). We wanted to show that Roui actually can have different types of friendships and he has a lot of pals, who accept him as is, but he don't understand it well and just taking it for granted. So he has two way to behave in-game - he is getting know people better and acting more grateful or he is being egoistic, which makes him close to Kariom. Kariom is an extreme version of Roui from the second variant, so their similarities can be noticeable, but not very obvious, at least for Roui himself. Thank you very much for your opinion and thoughts!

Thank you very much! I'm glad that you read the character well. I could talk about tcol charas all day, but I'm afraid I will spill out spoilers or expose something essential for the plot xD I don't want to take away players' experience!

Aw I’m so SO happy to hear that!! 😭😭 I care about tcol’s characters with all my heart so I’m delighted that you appreciate my thoughts. I too feel that warmth knowing it helps your writing feel understood! And I love how you’ve made relationships such a core theme surrounding Roui’s choices and growth as a character. I think it’s portrayed extremely well! Roui does have people who make an effort to reach out to him (like lazy, vander, alek, Serban, and emeral all to an extent) but he doesn’t fully realize it yet and the game explores the potential relationships he can have with them! I think that drives home a theme I personally got out of the story, and that’s; how our impact on others affects our own life. TCOL’s choices seem very relationship based, and depending on how nice or mean he is to people affects whether or not they work in his favor or makes his life harder. This is such a powerful message to me because I truly believe it’s important to foster good relationships with others. Not only to positively affect those around you, but to also in a sense, be kind to yourself! Because the people you’ve treated well will have your back when you truly need it. Egotistical Roui and Kariom further emphasize that theme for me because it’s so tragic. Roui has a lot of undeserved turmoil and trauma in his life so he deserves kindness and good friends. This makes it really heartbreaking when he drives people away due to his ego in those negative routes ; ; Kariom also has his own baggage and depending on how well you treat Roui determines whether or not he can comfort or snap back at kariom during Milosh’s death. I’m not sure if this was intentional but.. If I remember correctly Roui’s behavior seemed much more reminiscent of kariom in the very first demo of TCOL? I really like how Roui has more capacity for good right off the bat now, and that Kariom is an exaggerated mirror of his negative qualities! I sometimes fantasize about Roui learning from kariom and brilla as an example of how NOT to act if you choose the good routes. With all the verbal abuse Roui puts up with from them, I can imagine him thinking “I do NOT want to make others feel like how they made me feel” Anyways! Thank you for writing such lovable characters and for listening to my thoughts on them I really REALLY appreciate it!! 😭😭
