Life comes at us all very fast, so I thought I'd take a minute to create a round-up of everything I've shared here this month in case you missed anything. This post is also set to public so people have a chance to see what they'd get if they became members.

First I shared a work-in-progress snippet:

Today's excerpt comes from a superhero project I've been playing around with as an outlet for my ongoing, complicated feelings about the superhero genre and what roles it can serve in our Current Political Moment (TM)...

I had two Oreo's Posse updates with pictures of my favorite marvelous mutt:

Stay Dry

Reluctant Walkies

I talked about some recommendations of music, books, and games I've been enjoying lately:

I've been a bit quiet on the internet the past few weeks because I've been up to my nose in line edits on [REDACTED]. And to stay coherent during that time, I've been chewing through video, books, and music. Here's a small selection of Cool Things that have been keeping my attention the past few weeks.

I mused for a while about adjusting tone and lethality in Forged in the Dark RPGs:

Last week, a friend asked about scaling threats/danger/lethality in Blades in the Dark/Forged in the Dark (FitD) games. By default, Blades in the Dark is a pretty lethal game - characters are constantly going up against threats above their scale, and the consequences of a failed roll in Desperate circumstances can be life-threatening....

And last week I shared this business of publishing essay on evaluating a potential publisher for your book:

But not all publishers are created equal. And not all reputable publishers are equally suited to publish any given book.

After spending more than five years working at a major independent SFF house, and publishing as an author with several different imprints across the Big Five and beyond, I've come to see the nuance in what makes different publishers a better or worse home for any given book.

It's been a busy month for me, working on a new project and wrapping up line edits on [REDACTED], which should be announced soon (fingers crossed), and I'm excited for what comes next.

How has your month been? Any big wins, challenges overcome? What are you looking forward to in August (GenCon? WorldCon? The beginning of It's Totally Halloween Season(TM)?

Done with cons for the summer myself, but I know folks heading to both WorldCon and GenCon. The month saw a lot of struggle in carving out time to write due to some ongoing home renovations, but it's ending with a win I hope to be able to talk about soon!
