Yesterday TTRPG journalists Lin Codega, Rowan Zeoli, and Chase Carter launched Rascal, a worker-owned ttrpg site focused on ttrpgs and actual play.

I've followed all three of these folks in their previous reporting, from Lin's landmark reporting on the 2023 OGL crisis or Chase's TTRPG coverage on Dicebreaker. I met Rowan at the New Jersey Web Fest and she impressed me with her insights on and enthusiasm for ttrpgs and actual play.

Following in the model of outlets like Defector, Aftermath, and others, Rascal is audience-supported and non-heirarchical.

They've got a dozen+ stories published already, from criticism on a big sponsored Marvel actual play to community-submitted announcements about crowdfunding projects, web festival grants, and more.

Highly recommended for everyone that enjoys ttrpgs and actual play, no matter whether you sail the seas of D&D or if you delve into the depths of the weird and varied worlds of indie games and solo rpgs and more.

I subscribed on day one, and I'm very excited to see what Lin, Rowan, and Chase can do for the field of ttrpgs with this platform.

Rascal News

Rascal is a tabletop roleplaying game and culture outlet striving to sustainably publish voicey journalism that is compelling, deeply-reported, and fearlessly honest. We're also a little cheeky.
