"The Time Trap" Full Reaction! - Star Trek: The Animated Series Season 1

Comments

William Terry

Great reacts bunny! I remember the Bermuda Triangle, here the Delta triangle, was a popular topic at the time of this series. "Time Trap" has more Klingons, including a female. Characters, classic and new ones. Dilithium crystals are used to conduct matter and antimatter to produce warp drive. It often sounds like they think it's coal that they shovel into the boiler. What was the end scene where the Klingons thought they watched the Enterprise blow up? Why didn't they start fighting again? Was it the Elysians influencing their perceptions? I guess bunny watched the movies that suggest cooperation between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, here are some of the problems in getting to that goal. It sounds like canon, like bunny said, based on Errand of Mercy. All in all a thought provoking episode.

The voice acting for the alien council made me lol, especially the psychic alien woman. The premise for this episode would have been amazing for the live-action version.

Matthew Graves (Graviton)

Ah, the infamous Shatner "sabotage"! :) For those who don't know there's aa viral audio clip of Shatner in the booth recording an episode of TAS., where his pronunciation of the word becomes an issue. Kinda funny. Im sure it's still easy to find. I like this one more than I remeber on this re-watch. I had thought it was rather average but it's really an interesting concept with some great fan-service in the form of the ships and the aliens (Kzinti again perhaps?) Of couse it helps to watch it along with an inteligent and so charmingly enthusiasic Bunny!

Klingon treachery. Shame on you, Kor!!

Matthew Graves (Graviton)

I believe this is one of those where to save money they just had Nichelle Nichols do all the femaie voices, so yeah. Its a little silly but hey, she had tot try and make them all sound different. Not an easy task.

Rogue Vulcans. Trek 5. File it away until then...

I'm late in reacting, so I'll just say that I agree with many of the comments here and also share Bunny's thoughts about this episode, and I didn't like how Kor was shown here. Especially since Klingons are very honorable and Kirk stepping in to save them should have earned them credit in their eyes. I didn't like this episode quite as much as she did but it's a good episode.

This story was completely ripped off from a 1972 Star Trek comic book story written by a different writer.

The concept was way bigger than the 20 minute format. Kor was probably the wrong Klingon to use. Koloth from Tribbles would have been a better match. Also, Klingons have no honor in TOS/TAS. That concept is introduced later. Originally, it was the Romulans who had honor. Glad you liked it, Bunnytails! It was always a fav of mine!

I was going to say much the same thing: great premise, but the execution fell short. If they'd ever made a two-part episode, this would be the one I'd hope to see expanded.

Lee

This has always been on my list of favorite episodes, albeit more for the premise than the actual resolution. If Gene Coon had produced this show, you know he would have added a humorous tag to indicate the episode was complete. :) On the differences between Vulcans and Romulans, I think it's more cultural than genetic. A significant number of Vulcans decided that suppression of emotion and the embrace of logic weren't the way to go, so they departed and eventually became known as Romulans. (This is a grossly oversimplified explanation, but it gets spelled out in later series, so I didn't want to spoil anything.)

Carlos Stevens

Bunny! How can you not remember Captain Kor? He was the Klingon Commander in the episode "Errand Of Mercy."

Carlos Stevens

heh nevermind... you figured it out. BTW, the actor John Colicos also played Boltar in the first Battlestar Galactica series.

Carlos Stevens

Just out of curiosity Bunny, Did you ever see the TV Series "Taxi"? That's was Christopher Lloyd's first break out role.

bunnytails

I just really saw no similarities, physical or otherwise) between Kor here and in Errand of Mercy aside from their name.

bunnytails

Ah yes, a humorous tag would have worked here very nicely!

bunnytails

I guess I had the wrong idea in my head about Kor after Errand of Mercy. 😭
