Micheal Dunn also played a terrific recurring villain in The Wild Wild West T V show from the 60's. Dr. Miguelito Loveless

James

Its an honor and a privilege!

Greg

It's always hard to rank these, but for the most part I agree with your top 10 Bunny. I would have included "For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" in the top 10 as that's one of my all time favorite episodes of TOS. I also would have included 'That Which Survives' and 'The Cloud Minders'. I don't think season 3 is BAD at all, I just think when compared to seasons 1 and 2 it's not AS good. It had big shoes to fill, but due to everything going on, as a whole, it just was not able to.

William Terry

Great choices bunny! No "Spock's Brain" but I know, to each their own. "The Cloud Minders" is another great Spock in Love story, here with a woman who is his intellectual equal. No Beauty has the unasked intriguing question who's the Medusa? Spector of the Gun and Way to Eden and Last Battlefield where my favorites growing up. The Amazing thing to me about The Empath is what a good job they did with no sets because of limited time and budget. Great makeup! James did an awesome job editing this reacts! Thanks to James and bunny! My list: 10. The Cloud Minders great guest star help from the grouchy ruler, his supremely logical beautiful daughter who sees nothing illogical about torture and the sexy woman from the mines. 9. Wink of an Eye another casting delight and a great scene involving Scotty. 8. Tholian Web bizarre alien weapon 7. All Our Yesterdays Spock finally tells McCoy to back off with the "pointy ears" slur. 6. Turnabout Intruder Kirk and his tortured Dr Frankenstein ex-girlfriend. 5. Enterprise Incident Spock seduces the unnamed Romulan Commander. Kirk gets the ears. 4. Day of the Dove. Awesome Klingon couple. 3. Last Battlefield Star Trek TOS to Batman: a Batman episode with weight, batman-style makeup and the Riddler. 2. Spock's Brain Mecha Spock, cool landing party and garter-style dresses. 1. Elaan of Trois what bunny said 🎯 Honorable Mention: Empath, Spector of the Gun

Skyman's Follies

Well, Bunny... you nailed S3 for me. Can't agree with you more on #1 and #2. Coincidentally (or not) music was specifically created for both "Is There In Truth No Beauty" & "The Empath" by George Duning (and on the same DAY no less!)... the reason you may think you also heard it in "Metamorphosis" is because George Duning also created the music for that. Cherry on top is that you included "Way To Eden" in your top ten. I know it has its detractors, but damn if Napier didn't sing (and write) his heart out on those glorious tunes. Regarding S3, super glad you finally did a top ten, it's so deserving of it : ) oh, I almost forgot: here's the link to your fav theme, cue “Time Grows Short” from "the Empath": https://youtu.be/8l1CCFfh_fg

I do always fail to remember that the Spock "forget' scene _isn't_ from City on the Edge of Forever. I love Requiem, and with a solid suspension of disbelief it really does fit together well, but I never have to suspend anything for City. And I have no trouble believing Edith will haunt Kirk forever.

Matthew Graves (Graviton)

Great list Bunny! Like you, my top ten changes constantly, but unlike you I don’t have a reactor channel so I can get away with not being pinnned down to a specific list. 😝😉 I will say that our top 3 align.

Mike_G

I like season three more over time. It was certainly more experimental than the other two seasons. All the TOS shows are in some way morality plays but season three delved deep into the social issues the country was experiencing in 1968 and 1969.

Mark Sulkowski

S3 is the least good season of TOS, and still better than so much else these days.

Mark Gosine

My Top 10 1) All Our Yesterdays 2) The Enterprise Incident 3) Plato's Stepchildren 4) The Paradise Syndrome 5) For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky 6) Requiem for Methuselah 7) Wink of an Eye 8) Day of the Dove 9) The Cloud Minders 10) The Way to Eden (although, I agree on the music. I reach!) TBH anything after 6 is up for grabs. Interesting the different takes on these. I did definitely hear all my comments on 'Let That be Your Last Battlefield'.

Savage Curtain - “Abe Lincoln in space? I’ve seen it all”

James

Don’t think I will get “let’s say goodbye or lets say brother” out of my head

Wow. You nailed Season 3. Trying to keep each of these to a sentence, you’re a busy Bunny. REQUIEM FOR METHUSELAH: Might be one of my least favorites because of Kirk’s instant love for Rayna, but the concept of a nearly immortal being who wanted to find a companion to share the last of his days was very Trek. FOR THE WORLD IS HOLLOW, AND I HAVE TOUCHED THE SKY: As a kid, the concept of an implanted device to control one’s thoughts was terrifying. I love this one, especially when Spock puts his hand on McCoy’s arm after he learns about McCoy’s terminal condition. THE WAY TO EDEN: Absolutely a story of it’s time, but open to multiple interpretations, which is what TOS was always good at! Also one of my favs, and I quote it often to other Trekkies. It’s real now. THE PARADISE SYNDROME: A heartbreaking glimpse into an alternate life for Jim Kirk. I wonder if the planet hadn’t been on the brink of destruction, would his dreams about the Enterprise eventually fade? Miramanee told Kirk she will bear him many strong sons. And yes, Spock’s “forget” meld would have been much more effective here. Another Margaret Armen (three TOS, two TAS). Spock and McCoy are once again great. SPECTRE OF THE GUN: Love it. Also, Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Scotty have all shared each other’s thoughts now. Tombstone (1993) is definitely worth a watch! PLATO’S STEPCHILDREN: Alexander displayed the most nobility of all the Platonians. The interactions between Kirk/Uhura and Spock/Chapel were meant to show the contempt Platonians had for physical affection. Too much to get into. ALL OUR YESTERDAYS: Kirk’s story is total side quest. He just needs to get back to Mr. Atoz. Spock/McCoy/Zarabeth is the real story here. There’s a Trek novel called Yesterday’s Son directly involved with this episode. I remember it was a good read, but I don’t consider it canon, so it’s not a spoiler. ELAAN OF TROYIUS: The Dohlman of Elas used her female tears to ensnare Kirk, but Kirk ensnared her by being Kirk! An alternate title to this one could be “Obligations”, since neither could escape them! LET THAT BE YOUR LAST BATTLEFIELD: Story by Gene L. Coon under a pen name. Same writer as Devil in the Dark. Hate was all they had left. The self destruct countdown is freaking epic! THE ENTERPRISE INCIDENT: The Romulan commander and Spock were playing a game for their respective cultures. They didn’t realize how much they would become drawn to each other. I didn’t care for the cloaking device subplot, it seemed underhanded for the Federation, but still great stuff! THE EMPATH: So glad you picked this one! It displays so many elements that made TOS the best Star Trek. Not only do Kirk, Spock, McCoy offer their lives for each other, they let Jem see the nature of sacrifice. And then, Kirk teaches the Vians they’ve lost the capacity to experience “love and compassion” by offering four lives to them! IS THERE IN TRUTH NO BEAUTY: So many moving parts in this one, I doubt any other episode of ANY Trek did it this well. One of my favorites of all time (and not just because it aired on my actual birthday). Two things (out of many): I love that McCoy knew Miranda was blind but didn’t mention it. And also Spock (melded with Medusan ambassador Kollos) tells the crew how lonely it must be to “live out your life in this…shell.” Fantastic top ten list, Bunnytails!!!

Trilogian

“Help me, Spock!” Awesome episode.

James

Much appreciated

“Live long and Prosper image of Sarek”

NateWiz

The Enterprise Incident is my fav in season 3, as a kid I was fascinated by the cloaking device.

James

Also Eden is great with the juxtaposition. Adam sees logical regulation quoting Spock as a brother he reaches with and usually easy going Kirk as a Herbert lol “Oh Herbert you are a stiff!”

James

I was glad to help

James

I thought the song she was trying to remember also sounds like in Alien when they separate the ship and go down to the planet

James

The Emperor from Amadeus “I believe, its the best star trek top ten yet written”

MntrTodd

These are great choices. Love that your top two were two of what I feel were two of the most underrated episodes of the series. When I wrote my magnum opus article "The Fifty Greatest Televison Episodes of the 1960s" (an article which was the product of nearly a lifetime of research) I picked three of those episodes from the original STAR TREK series, one from each season. My choices were season one's "The City on the Edge of Forever", season two's "Journey to Babel", and "The Empath" for season three.

Edward T Martin

Really glad you loved "Elaan of Troyus". I didn't like it when I was younger, but now, after many obligations and lost loves due simply to said obligations, I understand it, and love this episode too. Her tears right before the shimmer of the transporter are deeply moving. It's a fun and beautiful episode.

Carlos Stevens

Season 3 is hard in terms of ranking them. So many good so many kinda weird.

Carlos Stevens

You better be watchin' yourself some Tombstone movie... Such a classic.

Carlos Stevens

Bunny. I agree 100% about Michael Dunn; he was an amazing actor. If you want to see more of Michael Dunn, may I suggest you watch the other series he was famous for, "The Wild Wild West." (Yeah you've probably heard this already... but I'm just dropping this here to prod you a bit in that direction.)

Carlos Stevens

heh... why am I not surprised that your #1 episode from season 3 is a Spock centered episode... same as your favorite from Season 1, and season 2. After watching season 3... I take it all back... it's not as bad as I used to remembered.

Carlos Stevens

After walking through this journey again... I think back, trying to remember which Star Trek series was the best. Dare I say it??? I so dare... it was DS9. Agree or Disagree I would love to hear it.

John Zelinka

Where else are you EVER going to hear the phrase, "Brain...Brain....what is brain!?"

bunnytails

Wow you're right. They are all Spock centered!

bunnytails

Awesome to see others sharing my love of those top 3 episodes!

bunnytails

That's a great top 10! Every episode has something good to take away from it. Day of the Dove and Tholian Web were also highlights for me.

Mark Gosine

Hard to disagree Carlos, but first love is strong. DS9 had the bestest evah character development.

Timothy Bennett

To honor the recent passing of Val Kilmer, you really need to watch Tombstone

Carlos Stevens

OMG BUNNY! NEXT MOVE (check the date) HAS TO BE TOUMBSTONE!!!!

Carlos Stevens

If you think Michael Dunn did an amazing job as Alexander in Star Trek... Perhaps you should see him in The Wild Wild West as Dr. Loveless.

Carlos Stevens

Ok Bunny... About the episode The Empath... I think they (the directors/producers) were trying to capture the feeling of the series, "The Outer Limits" which was also on TV at the same time. They kinda really did. Highly recommend... but not Star Trek. I think they were also trying the same thing in "Is There In Truth No Beauty." It was the Zeitgeist of the times.

Carlos Stevens

I take all the things back I said about Season 3. That said... You are so going to love TNG, DS9, and Voyager.
