Star Trek: Continues Episode 10 - "To Boldly Go: Part I" - Full Reaction

Greg

I agree with everything you said about this episode, Bunny. Really strong two partner to end the series on and eager to watch Part 2 next week. I will resist the temptation to do so now, LOL First, I believe I mentioned this already, but just in case I did not -- STC was not planned to end here. Three additional episodes were in various stages of being shot, edited, and produced for release. It was around this time, however, that a controversy broke out about a fan made Star Trek movie. To make a long story short due to the controversy Paramount/CBS changed the rules over what was allowed to be produced by fans, making them MUCH stricter. The BIGGEST one -- and the one that killed STC as well as New Voyages and other fan made productions -- was that NO ONE who was involved in Star Trek before or currently in ANY way could be involved with a fan made production. As numerous people from STC including Vic had been in past ST shows and movies, that killed the web show deader then a doornail. It's a shame, and it doesn't look like much has been done for fan made web stuff in the 10 years since due to these much stricter rules. Once again this show has great cameo's. You already mentioned the Romulan Commander. I recognized both Nicola Bryant from her time on Doctor Who (the British accent is a dead giveaway) as well as Cas Anvar from the Amazon Prime show The Expanse (highly suggested!). According to the Wikipedia article, it also says Mark Meer had a role in this episode also -- he's best known for voicing male Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect games -- but I don't know which character he played, or even if he was on screen. There was a LOT going on in this episode -- a lot of callbacks to both TOS as well as past STC episodes, a lot of information being tossed at you, and a lot to process. I agree Bunny that I don't mind fan service as long as it's done well, and it's done VERY well here, no doubt about it. Please keep in the back of your mind something the Admiral said toward the start of the episode, about how the Federation secretly authorized a top secret research lab to study espers under 'Article 13, Section 31' of the Federation Charter (which is the Constitution for the most part of the Federation). I'm not going to spoil anything, but that will come up again later on in later shows and movies (perhaps you already know about this). Also I found it interesting that they mentioned that the Romulan-Klingon alliance had already fallen apart. It was already established it was a short alliance, but again, we'll learn more about the reasons for this ending later on. Thank you for deciding to do this Bunny -- I know your views and ratings have been down, but a lot of people are going to tune in JUST for the shows and/or movies they really enjoy. I will be with you for the whole thing, but I also expect a large surge in people watching again once you start TNG as a lot of people my age (in their 40's and 50's) grew up watching TNG the sane way my parents grew up watching TOS.

Great reacts bunny! If you want more callbacks and fan service I would love it if you would consider watching Star Trek: Lower Decks as in season one they have a similar problem as Gary Mitchell. Thank you!

Amy Rydell looks and sounds so much like her mother. RIP Joanne Linville.

Seeing the sheer joy on your face is heartwarming.

Wow, I watched this several times, and the James R. Kirk reference thing I missed before. This is a really great episode. Yes, I was bummed too on bionic arm guy getting it. Well, he was a red shirt. Nevertheless, he is a character I would miss. I really thought you might cry here too. I also take small credit for help in funding the planet set. It hurt ($) at the time, but I believed in what they were doing, and they did a fantastic job.

I will admit that I am sad to see this series coming to an end.

Don’t know if you’re aware, but if you go to the STC web page, There is two albums of the scores and scripts to download free plus all the episodes to keep all for free.
