I saw Lost in Translation, on VCR rental, in the 00s. Terrific in every way, acting, camera and soundtrack especially. It's an honor watching a bunnyreacts when I can't make the movie night. Bill Murray plays in the Pebble Beach Pro-am, and the golf scene was great, I wasn't sure if he was playing on a computer but it was an actual golf course? Charlotte's creepy husband was played by Billy Mumy, aka Will Robinson ("Danger Will Robinson!") in 1965-68 TV's Lost in Space, fitting with this movie's theme.

Excellent movie. Glad we agree on the most critical issue, which is of course ScarJo's panties. And I especially liked the part at the end where he whispers in her ear the Colonel's secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices. (heh, when this first came out there was rampant speculation about what Bob said to Charlotte. It was a whole thing) In all seriousness, it's a deceptively deep movie. Bunny, You seemed (as you usually do) to immediately pick up on the important themes. The movie is very much more about atmosphere and mood than plot. The culture shock is a metaphor for the isolation, alienation, and adrift-ness both characters are feeling. And of course, the simultaneous impact and ambiguity in their relationship is largely the point. Ive also always had my own theory that it can be looked at as a sort of deconstruction of the rom-com genre. Like any effective deconstruction it pushes the sterotypical themes and situations and tropes to their breaking point while still working effectively as an example of the very genre it is deconstructing. It's kinda funny. When this came out I was in my late 20's and I could relate to some of what Charlotte felt, unsure about what shape my life was meant to take. Now I'm in my 50's, and though my life circumstances are very different from Bob's, there are some elements of his mid-life crisis that definitely resonate with me. I think that shows how great the movie works. Oh, and did you notice the song Charlotte sings as karaoke is "Nobody does it Better" by Carly Simon? It was the theme song to what is often considered the best Bond film that starred...Roger Moore. Theres a couple layers of amusement there. Anyway, Fun reaction Bunny! EDIT: Oh, almost forgot. As a quite tall man myself I can totally relate to Bob and Husbando's shower woes. Happily, a few years back I had the opportunity to switch to a ceiling mounted rain-style shower head. Oh, so luxurious! I'd never go back! When I stay at hotels no matter how nice they are I'm always missing my own shower :)

There's some really crazy beautiful cinematography in this film. Truly beautifully shot. It's more about visuals and ambiance than plot, but that's okay sometimes, like in Blade Runner.
