Great episode. Klingons are big but they are more full of themselves then strong

뱀파이안젤

how did the Klingon race ever advance scientifically far enough to become capable of star ship warp travel when they can't even properly analyze how to repair some micro organisms eating their hull? 😏

Squeesher

"They're gonna bite his dick off!" is probably the funniest thing I've ever heard someone say during this great episode

Riker outsmarted an entire Klingon vessel's chain of command? That's m'boy! :)

Notice Data moved out of Worf’s way and to protect Picard. It was quick movement

Super Sunny Sunblade

Klingon Captain: Nobody makes a monkey outta me! Also Klingon Captain: Get this monkey off my ship!

I really enjoy this episode and it's one of my top ones for Season 2. Since I know Bunny has gotten several episodes ahead with watching, I can safely say that this episode starts a stretch of REALLY great episodes, including some that rank super high for me. I will always love Star Trek episodes that focus on other species and how they operate and do things, such as the Klingons and Romulans. We learn a lot about the Klingons here and how they operate, and the exchange program is a good idea despite the issues that it caused, both with the Benzite officer who didn't properly study for his assignment, and the Klingons, where Riker DID and that knowledge saved his life. Good performances from everyone here. Was happy to see a bit more of Pulaski, but no Troi in this one. I thought they were done cutting her from episodes. Bunny's comments during the mess hall scene really cracked me up. We'll learn more about Klingon mating rituals later on, so I won't spoil anything about that, LOL Some trivia about the casting -- despite them being different Benzite's, it IS the same actor playing the roles, John Putch. The Klingon Captain Kargan is played by Christopher Collins, who kids of my age group will best know as the voice of Cobra Commander in the G.I. Joe animated series and Starscream in the first Transformers animated series. He also voiced Moe and Mr Burns in the first season of the Simpsons. The shooting game that Picard and Riker did at the start was fun and an interesting way of helping officers outside of security to work on their phaser skills, as every Starfleet officer is expected to have basic proficiency at using them. Finally, Riker allowing Kargan to strike him at the end to regain some of his honor was a nice touch.

It's stated in later episodes that Klingons don't value sciences very highly, being a warlike race. So this kind of makes sense to me.

Fun facts! 1. Ensign Mendon /Mordock, both characters were played by the same actor, John Putch. The show reused the actor and species design and wrote Wesley's confusion into the script. 2. Klingon food: The props used on set were actually things like sushi and various offal to create the alien-looking dishes. 3. The episode’s heavy Klingon makeup work earned an Emmy nomination for makeup supervisor Michael Westmore. 4. Actor Brian Thompson, who played Klag, almost lost the role because producers initially wanted someone who could fit into a Klingon costume originally built for Christopher Lloyd in Star Trek III. Thompson insisted on auditioning and got the role.

Don't underestimate the element of surprise. More then once I've seen someone smaller and weaker then another person win a fight cause they sucker punched them.

First really great episode of s2, IMO. This is the first real deep dive into Klingon culture, and the guest actors were fantastic in this one. Riker's adventurism and openness to trying new things is also a lot of fun, and says a lot about his character. I know one of your concerns/complaints about the first season was that many of the characters felt very thinly defined and developed; hopefully that's starting to change!

Another solid episode that I've always liked! Season 2 really started picking up steam over these past two episodes. I enjoyed how we got our first deep dive into Klingon culture in their environment. It was more than just learning what Klingons eat. It was understanding how they relate to one another, and how their command structure works, a structure deeply rooted in service and honor. Riker allowing himself to get slugged by the captain at the end was a great moment.

Matthew Graves (Graviton)

Fun episode. It's very much based in the "culture-clash" type of story that Trek often likes to explore, and when done well, I eat that kinda stuff up. Riker is the perfect person for this kind of assignment. Remember that in a previous episode he took it upon himself to join Worf in his "exercizes" on the holodeck, so he clearly already had an interest in Klingon culture. The stuff on board the Klingon ship is great. The stuff with Benzite ensign is not bad. Not as interesting as the main story but it's a nice counterpoint to the harsher realities onboard the Klingon ship.

Carlos Stevens

"Gagh is always best when served live." One of the most memorable lines from The Next Generation.

Comrade Wireless Caller

I'm a big fan of almost all Klingon episodes of the Trek franchise. The script is carried well by Jonathan Frakes and the Klingons wholesale. And we get the Trek franchises first introduction of Gagh!

Good point bringing up the earlier episode with the holodeck scene!
